Hey guys the more i use my note daily it seems I'm hating battery life already. I basically have all features turned off and the screen brightness at its lowest. my battery usage is saying about 2 hours and 45 mins of screen on time till completely dead over an 8 hour period. What's the usual you guys are seeing on this. For only actually using the phone for about 3 hours with no games or special notifications or refreshes. Wifi is off I'm under clocked to 1.1. The battery is atrocious. I know its not made for battery life but being it has a larger battery then any cell and a little smaller then the razr Maxx i expect a little more. Makes me think there is a problem.

A couple of things come to mind:
1) Have you checked CPU spy to make sure you're going into deep sleep? (are you aware of the bug with disconnecting the charger while the phone is sleeping?)
2) Are you in an area with LTE and WiFi most of the day? I know it's opposite of what we're used to, but we've learned that the WiFi radio actually uses far less power than the LTE radio. Just something to think about.
Just some thoughts.
When mine goes into deep sleep I loose 1% per hour (wifi off, data on). I agree you need to get CPU Spy to be sure yours is going to sleep. When the charge wakelock problem occurs I'll loose 3% per hour - that adds up to 1/3 of the total battery during a 12 hour day. The work-around so far is to make sure you wake the phone AND unlock it before unplugging it. Most people only seem to have a problem with non-stock chargers and charging from USB ports.
The single biggest battery user is the screen. I highly recommend using Screen Filter and setting up a Widget set to 75% to use indoors and during cloudy days (then another Widget set to 30% for dark rooms - and turn it completely off for full sun). LED screens use less energy the darker they are, which is why this helps. I go into it in detail here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544757
Then there is the overnight charging problem (not related to the issue in the first paragraph). Once the phone hits 100% it only trickle charges for a little while. You know when the trickle charge has ended because that's when the "unplug me" nag comes up if your phone is on, or the screen comes back on for a few seconds showing a full battery icon if the phone is off. Once this happens it stops charging - so if your battery was almost full the night before you could hit this stage by 12 or 1 am, then it will start to run down again so the next morning it will appear to discharge fairly rapidly. If your phone is heavily discharged the night before you might not hit this point until 3-4 am (or later if you are using a non-stock charger or USB port), so the battery really will be nearly full the next morning and it won't appear to discharge as fast. The only way to get around the problem is to boot in the morning and then leave it plugged in for 15-30 minutes, or if it is already on, unplug and then re-plug it. Either way it will re-start the charging process and top off properly. The stock charging algorithm is just too conservative IMO. It should cycle the trickle charge mode on and off for up to 8 hours to ensure overnight charges really give you a full battery the next day, and not a battery that is only 96% full. Right now it allows the battery to drain back to 95% before automatically starting the charge process over. So ironically the less you use your phone the day before the less battery you'll have the next day if you don't top it off.
I'm going into deep sleep immediately if i leave my phone off the charger over night prolly 6-8 hours I'll only lose maybe 3 percent at most with wifi on. My standby time is awesome its my on screen time that's the problem. I don't have lte available where i live yet. My phone is always at 98 percent max after charging. I did check out a screen filter before but do i seriously need for my 750 dollar phone to look like sh*t to make it through a day? I jumped from a 4s to here where i got at least 20 standby and 6 plus hours screen time before charging with medium auto brightness full notifications enabled. Granted it is a smaller screen but its also smaller battery with what i would think is more draining data features. I thought led screens were supposed to draw a lot less power? My basic reason for the post is wanting to know what everyone else was concluding from average use of screen time before needing a charge. 3 hours of screen time is like two movies and my phone is dead. What's the point of a big screen cell if i always need to charge it after light use every few hours. Its basically a tv at that point which is always plugged in.

Which is why I recommended Screen Filter. It doesn't make your screen look like crap, applying a light filter (like the 75% I recommended) just dims it down a little. It works along with the stock auto-brightness feature, too. Using this I get 4 hours of screen time with 15-16 hours total run time. Most people report 3-3 1/2 hours of screen time w/o using Screen Filter. You won't get 6 hours - count the number of pixels on your old phone compared to this one.
With no tweaks other than lowering the brightness I'm averaging right at 4hrs of screen time.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note
i get about 4-3 hours of screen time with my overall screen time ranging from 10-16 hours depending on what else im am doing.
i also have profiles set up to keep my cpu in check while in call or screen off. i keep my phone on 100% brightness ALL the time as well. so if i did choose to dim it i could probably squeeze more life out of it.
Ya I'm at 27 percent right now 13 hours on battery about 2 hours of screen time with screen filter at 64 percent the phone brightness all the way dim. I can't see 4 hours if i tried. I dunno what the hell is wrong. What roms are you guys running? Any refreshes on face book tango scramble with friends etc. i lost about 5 percent over night with everything on. I'm using go launcher and handcent sms mostly occasional Facebook checks and fancy weather widget i use system tuner on demand 192-1.5. with screen off on 192-718 max and call settings. I drop like a percent like every 2 mins it seems when the screen is on. Also I'm on unofficial alpha 2

Hi,
I've been noticing that my Hero has been gulping battery down VERY fast.
In general, the battery lasts 7-8 hrs, which is not acceptable (I'm out for 12+ hrs).
My usage is not heavy. Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS are rarely, if ever, on.
I do read some news and surf the web a little but only for 2-3 of those 7-8 hrs.
Is my battery life normal?
I've been reading people achieving 12+ hours with their stock battery...
2 or 3 hours websurfing is very heavy on the battery, much more so than phone calls. One of the biggest drains is the screen and you having it on for 2 - 3 hours is going to drain the battery I guess
Seems very poor, much poorer than my iDevice that I use more frequently.
Today, after flashing the 2.1 ROM, it has gotten worse.
Battery's down to 40% in 6 hours, and Battery Usage shows 50% phone idle, 50% cell standby.
I've not even touched the phone since unplugging it 6 hours ago ;S
Is it possible I've a defective battery?
If your battery is down to 40% after 6 hours of it being idle (no screen but switched on) then either you have some power hungry app(s) running in the background or the battery is defective.
At the moment my battery is showing 40%. It was last charged about 40 hours ago, and I have had it switched on the whole time with some light use, picking up emails in the background and occassionally switching the screen on.
I ran task killer and sync was off.
One thing I didn't do was charge it for 10-13 hours straight on first charge; I just unplugged it when the led turned green in ~4 hours (impatient...).
Could this have affected battery life?
Nope - when the LED is green it is fully charged. No minimum charge times suggested in the manual.

That is amazing battery life, I never get more than 24 hours with similar use... what ROM and radio are you using Peter? Also, where are you and what network are you on?
I am in UK on Orange, and have standard Orange ROM and Radio - not the latest one but the one they had before 2.73.61.5.
I have read lots of complaints about battery life, but I think mine is fine for a smartphone. I am a relatively light user of a phone - don't do lots of surfing or watching videos. A few phone calls, very few texts, checking emails and listening to some music is all I normally do with it. The other thing I do use it for is I always have the sat nav on while I am driving, but in that case it is plugged into my Brodit mount and charging from the car.
This latest spell may have been helped because I have not been out over those 40 hours - spent the weekend at home, which means that the Hero has been logged into wifi rather than trying to use mobile data. And not used it to make calls or texts or used the music player.
I notice keep Internet connection active take a lot of battery. Go to settings and turn it off and try to see whether the problem exist. It'll will take you a few seconds to re-establish the connecting whenever you need it... not so unbearable considering it'll save a lot of battery.
Same, I notice the mobile chip is using abnormal amounts of battery.
In the morning I watched a 40 minute episode of drama.
Battery dove from 100% to 65%.
To preserve battery life, I turned Airplane mode on.
When I was done with the episode, there was still 55% battery left!
I'm pretty shocked at the battery drain.
I'm using one of the new 2.1 ROMs. They're known for having a bit of a battery-hunger. I solved it by installing the app Ultimatejuice from Market. it's a pay app, but it's worth it. It's also another app called juicedefender (free, less options) that I used before I bought the Ultimate. It also worked good! Now my battery lasts the whole day without any problem
What's the maximum display "time on" people are getting? I think my max is about 3 hours
Four and a half. Turn down the brightness

What brightness do you use?
I typically get 3.5h on display plus 3 hours talk time, and that takes up nearly 80% of my battery.

Today I got 4.5 hours display on time, with 9 hours total battery. I was testing how long the display could remain on. I played the movie secretariat twice (4 hours total) and was still above 30 percent battery

I was getting about 3 hours of batt life with the screen on, but fixed it by doing a factory refresh, now I get about 4 hours screen on.

I get 2.5 hours continuous 4g internet browsing time. About 3-3.5 or so on 3g. Don't know yet for no data usage but I'm guessing 4 would be max maybe reading ebooks or something. Screen brightness varying since I'm in and out constantly all day. I've noticed little difference to any setting below 50%. It seems the same. It's just when I'm outside and crank it to 100% my battery suffers hard core.
Can't put this thing down. Bought a newtrent portable battery 11000 mah. Waiting for it to arrive. I'd rather carry that around then an ugly seido extended. Just an option to think about if your a heavy user/abuser. I have 2 laza batteries from amazon that are actually 1000 mah, not 1730 they stated. Been seeing that on these forums. Guess ebay isn't the only place those batteries are floating around. So I just said screw it, portable power supply.

My battery life seems to be awful lately and I did a factory reset, can't seem to figure out what the deal is. I know someone who is having the same problem, his display on time is about half of what mine is. Even with chichitec batteries the display still murders his battery life for some reason.
Do you sometimes have trouble with the backlight/screen turning on? Occasionally on his when you push the power button it appears the lockscreen is showing but you can't see it unless you look really closely at it. Turning the screen off and then back on usually fixes it though.
Are you guys seeing a 1% drop a minute when you are using your phone?
I'm experiencing sudden drain after the update as well and I've tried everything from freezing VZ location to factory restores without any success. It seems the majority of drain is the result of the display.. Here's what I did to try and determine that.
Turned on airplane mode
Lowered display to the lowest setting possible
Set the screen timeout to 10 mins and left the screen on
On average my phone was losing 1% of battery a minute and the same was true when I disabled airplane mode. If the display on the phone was shutoff I was averaging about 1% an hr (in airplane mode) so I'm thinking this is related to the display.
Are you guys seeing a 1% drop a minute when you are using your phone? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you talking streaming, idling, phone calls, data ? guess you need to define use a little bit. Even prior to the OTA , on stock battery while surfing the internet my phone I would drop almost that fast. I bought the extended battery and it was much better. After the OTA, I got an otterbox case and went back to stock battery and it still drains fast while surfing internet, but Idling or sitting in my pocket no drain.
Doing nothing at all. I just changed the screen timeout to 10 mins and left the screen on sitting at my desk, doing nothing. I was in airplane mode so no streaming or anything was taking place... If I turn the screen off I have very minimal drain.
I'm just trying to gauge whether or not having the screen on (doing nothing) and draining 1% a minute is realistic. At this rate my battery would only last a little under 2hrs.. I might believe that if I were streaming movies, phone was on, 3/4G on, etc. but in airplane mode none of that was happening.

This looks like it's a specific problem to your phone. I've never had that jurastic of a battery drain on my Rezound, even while surfing the web, playing games, listening to music, etc. If I were you I'd go to the VZW store and talk to one of the Verizon reps about it. Hope I helped!

It is the same for me. My screen destroys the battery. It can idle forever... but it does drop maybe 0.5-0.75%/minute for me.
I'm going to have to get an extended battery sooner than later. Screen destroys my battery. Just texting and a little bit of the XDA app and my battery will go from 95% to 20% in like 4 hours.
My phone currently has had the screen on for an hour total this charge. 15 hours on battery, 43% battery left. Screen used 38% battery having been on for an hour.

Definitely not a 1% drain per minute here. I was using netflix while riding the train to work(auto brightness) and dropped about 10% in 20 minutes.
The more shocking part is that I plugged in my newtrent external battery charger and still dropped 4% over 30 minutes(obviously much preferrable to 10%+ but when charging you would think you'd break even at least).
Yeah my screen takes up a great % of my battery life too, watching videos on youtube and using Navigation kills my phone pretty fast.
Thanks for the feedback.. New Phone
All,
Thanks for the feedback.. I went by VZW and got a replacement phone which is currently working out much better.
Thanks again!
So got my S3 yesterday, installed some apps, etc. Throughout the day, battery life seemed respectable. Last night, I charged to 100% and let it sit overnight with nothing running. I woke up 7 hours later agreed and my battery was unfortunately at 81%.
1) The first problem (and this may be related to the battery standby usage) is that it claims I had No Signal and No Data Connection which was untrue.
2) The second problem is this "wlan_rx_wake" and "sec-batter-monitor" kept the phone awake.
Any ideas?
First impression for me is that this isn't an issue. I have sync off and update only when charging. Went to bed @95%, woke up it was 92%.
I did notice that it seemed to take a bit longer (than the One S)to get up to it's first full charge yesterday. This might have been my imagination though. It is a fairly large capacity battery.
From my experiences with new devices and even flashing new roms and updates. Give it a few days to cache and cycle. Then once the battery gets broke in you should be able to share your charging / discharging experience. I would rule it out as a hog yet.
This happened with my most recent firmware upgrade on my Asus transformer prime..Updated, drank juice, now after a week its better than ever.
Plus with everything you have on Bluetooth and such that can REALLY drain a phone..
I agree with discharge cycles and OS calibration but there shouldn't be wakelockers engaged.
Turned off WiFi, now there is a "deleted_wake_locks" under kernel wakelocks. What is that? Lost like 4% in 90 minutes of no use and "deleted_wake_locks" engaged the phone for 80+ minutes.
Does anybody know how long the notification light keeps blinking after getting a notification? I woke up in the morning and the light was blinking and had a text message from about 4 hours before the time I saw it. The blue LED was blinking. I hope it doesn't stay on until I see the notification since it's gotta use some of the battery.

That's pretty much the point of the LED - if it only lit up on arrival you'd have to be staring at the phone all of the time. But a flashing led like that should have a tiny impact on battery life.
there is a thread or two in the I9300 forum about cell standby, wireless wakelocks and battery drains. i was hoping i wouldn't hear about this with the US version but it looks like something similar is happening.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698289
You have one bar in the picture.. is that the same place you left your phone overnight? Even if you have signal albeit low signal your phone gives the radio more power in an attempt to hold onto that signal. That could have something to do with it. Also, I guess wifI is holding a wakelock :/
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
i have to agree, low/no signal sucks bat life big time!
looks like wifi and bluetooth wer in use the entire time....
another tip, when you get done charging it, reboot it.
me personaly, i charge my phone while im asleep, then unplug and reboot as im headed out the door in the am...
to me it seems smarter to start the day with a full tank than a partial one and wind up hunting for power later....
i have no complaints about battery life..i have been on the same charge for 15 hours with light phone calls, heavy texting and web surfing, and my battery is still at 36% and this is only after my first charge cycle so i am guessing it will only get better after a few more cycles
After a few days with my SIII, I can say that the battery life is not quite as good as the One S I had briefly. It is however way better than the G2x, Evo, Indulge, and Sensation.
I will be getting at least one spare battery. I did not like having a captive battery in the one S. Keeping and using spares is not an issue for me.

My battery is falling down automatically with no use!
See
I am wondering about this faulty behavior because i am in 510 firmware with no extra apps installed
I had this issue with. 475 too.
Help me please if this is a hardware issue send it back for second time in this week!
Instead of i charged this phone two time totally when i am bought it.first time faulty drainage happened yesterday when i played some game and battery went to 80% then i went to sleep for half an hour and when i turn the phone on again, noticed to battery is lost to 30%!
Sent from my C6802 using Tapatalk 2
I noticed a faulty battery usage indicator on mine.
It happened 2 or 3 times, when I plugged the USB cable to the phone (other end connected to a PC or charger) and the phone LED immediately turned green and the battery indicator jumped from 60% to 100%.
Nothing happens if I re-plug the charging cable, the phone keeps saying it's fully charged. Even powering off doesn't help.
The 100% power won't drain faster but I noticed that when it goes to 30% the phone will shutdown because no more juice is inside the battery and the indicator will go back to less than 10% after re-plugging the power cord.

In your case i think that's better try it with latest firmware.maybe solved.
But for me,the story is different, unfortunately!

Higher mA output is not necessarily better.
Taking more time to charge is more gentler on your battery.
Pumping up the mAh to 2 or higher will improve the charging time, but the number of total cycle charges (i.e. life span of your battery) will go down and suffer.
Anyway, 3 hrs from empty to full is normal, right? Anything quicker is a quickcharger.

Good thing you included screenshots from GSAM, so that we have something to go on now.
Remaining (Av.use) 18:51
This tells me that you once had a phone that was efficient, so from the day you realised this drop in performance, scrutinize what settings have changed (inc app installation)
Remaining (last 15 min usage) 5:47
IF u continue using your device in the way you have done in the last 15 mins, you have under 6 hours left of battery power.
In the 15% discharge since fully charged (and since when GSAM started taking this data on your screenshot), 62.9% of power was used by screen.
Some conclusions can be drawn here.
As you mention, you were probably playing some games during the 4hrs and 11min the phone was turned on(from when it was fully charged and then unplugged), very likely during the latter stages than earlier from when the phone was fully charged.
I see your screen is set on DIM, and that it has been active for nearly one hour. Your display was on for 25% of the time since full charge, and that has only used up 15% of battery.
Whether it is games or video playback, screen will be on, and looking at the data there is nothing faulty. In another words, set at dim, 7 hours or so of continuous display on sounds about right..(1 hr already used plus 5:47 expected left)
Now, if your complaint is that if you turned your phone screen off and left it that way for a few hours, came back, then found massive power drain, again, a few conclusions can be taken.
It is a shame there is no screenshot of the app usage form the exact same period. But, If you left the game app open in the background, it is possible that power is drawn still, possibly if your phone is not sleeping properly. In another words, CPU usage for game is there even when not used.
Do you have stamina mode on?
Conclusion... Form GSAM data, there is nothing wrong.
Looking at the first screen capture in OP, as you say, drain happened when phone was not awake, and screen off. I can only conclude that there was an app(s) open at the time which had been still running. If the app(s) is not closed or hibernated properly, it can happen.
If your phone felt hot at that time, it confirms CPU usage. In another words something was left open. If it was cold, even though the phone had been off for a while, then it could be faulty battery calibration.
And next time you see this big drop in charge, take screen shots of GSAM from apps and system. We would know then for sure.

Special thanks for your great comment
Fortunately, that horrible battery drainage don't happened from yesterday to now.
This means there is no faulty behavior after last full charge that i have been!
I don't know that reason but i done some actions after fully charged phone yestarday:
1.instilling Gsam battery pro as you have seen!
2.Charging with another charger(2mA galaxy s4 charger)
3.setting screen brightness to 30%
4.setting off "optimized backlight"
5.battery calibration with "battery calibration" app
This new informations from my battery behavior after 19 hours fully charged at last day from now and i hope that horrible drainage wouldn't happen in future else!
