So I work for Sprint, and I just got my replacement and come to find it has 2 dead pixels. I'm within my 30 days but what you guys think? keep replacing until I get one with clearly 0 dead pixels? anyone else get bothered by 1 dead pixel or what.... the first evo 3-d had 4 dead pixels.
yes, who the hell wants to have a screen with dead pixels? I certainly would not pay for that.. others have returned it.
I am going on my 4th evo but for hw related problems such as locking, not charging etc. if i got one that had a deal pixel.. it would go back to HTC/sprint.

+1 and you work for sprint. I work for a bottled water company. If I got a bad bottle or my cooler wasn't working correctly I'd want it replaced asap.

yeah me either....id like to see these dea pixels if u can post a PIC.....also i thought someone said that theres an app that can detect if u have dea pixels.....anyone know what its called?
I would not keep a phone with a dead pixel and i didn't, went through a few of them. to me it's a defect, what's the reason to not return a brand new device if it has a defect. but on the other hand that might sound like i am spoiled, the phone still works the same even if there is one dead pixel.
Yeah, to me, a dead pixel is a defect. I would not pay $200 for a brand new phone and settle for it to be in less than perfect condition. You can download "Dead Pixel Test" from the market. It just displays solid colored screens, which make it easier for you to spot a dead pixel.

yeah its in the Market called "Dead Pixel Test" it goes through all the colors to see if you have stuck or dead pixel's. I haven't see any yet and have had 2 E3D's.
I have a stuck pixel, on green. It's really only noticeable when using the camera. I'm going to exchange it since I can, otherwise it's something I can live with.
ive never had a phone with a dead pixel..or maybe i've never noticed it..hmmmm

Probably the latter.
My recommendation is if you do not see it, don't go looking for it. Odds are you will probably find 1 or 2 but if you do not know it is there, then who really cares.
Also, the pixel is not dead unless it stays black. What everyone is seeing is a stuck pixel and it is very common on these screens.
My first 3D had a stuck pixel. This one all pixels are good but there is a big-ass speck of dust under screen. I hate to do this, but I'm gonna have to go back and either have it cleaned or replaced. On another note...my 3G is kicking ass today with the stock EVRC Home and Roaming settings in my living room! An average of 5 tests 1090kbps D/L 410kbps U/L here in Tacoma, WA...not bad! Hope this lasts!!
So today I got my 3rd replacement and it actually has more dead pixels then the 2nd replacement... The 2nd one I think im going to keep since its 1 pixel on the screen and 2 on the bottom near the buttons... I don't want to keep having to do return kits and fighting for credits... its harder for us that work at sprint because we don;t get the exchanges in-store everything is online...
boy do you have that right... if you don't see a dead pixel don't go looking for one!
many years ago I bought a hans g monitor from newegg that was on super sale... so cheap it sold out fast...
so everyone was reporting anywhere from one or more dead or stuck pixels. the people with the stuck pixels were for the most post able to fix them by gently massaging them. a few had the pixels stay stuck. others had dead pixels.
I personally have a few in a horizontal line. they are stuck in a dark grey which could have really been much worse.
but after so many years, the monitor with stuck pixels is still worth they price I paid. sure, we paid good money for our phones, and I do expect a product that is one hundred percent, but if the pixel is out if the way or isn't easily noticed, why not keep it?
then again, our vision is concentrated in a much smaller area so it might be really bad. but either way, while curious I won't be checking for damaged pixels! cause that might just drive me insane because you can't un-see what you have seen lol

3 dead pixels here I think, but you only see em if you staring at a lit screen with nothing on it... And if you doing that then you just tryna find a complaint

I am still up in the fence about returning my phone because of one tiny stuck pixel.
I think the question is, how many EVO's would I need to go through to get one without. I am guessing a lot more people have stuck pixels that just don't know about because they haven't found them yet.
I think the odds of getting a perfect screen are probably far less then getting one with stuck pixels.
As the 30 days grows closer this decison is becoming harder and harder and I keep talking myself out of the return thinking I might get something worse but I am just not happy with non-perfection!

Maybe you exchange the one you have now and if it has problems you should return it and wait for the next hardware version. Maybe it will have less problems.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
So I bit the bullet and went for the exchange.
I am happy to say that the new device has no dead pixels! What is does have a the slightly crooked screen but I would have never even known what that was if not reading it on here so I can live with that over dead pixels.
Also, my screens colors seem so much better on this one. Maybe the misaligned screens are the ones with the whiter whites because it definitely looks better?
One thing I found weird was the lock screen was set on the weather one. My first one was not...It was definitely an un-opened box and I didn't even think about till hours after when I was like, um I didn't change my locks screen and it had the weather one as default.
Anyone, much happier with this one....

I will tell you but in all honesty if you haven't found one, I wouldn't go looking for it.
In the market if you search pixel, there is something called dead pixel test or something like that. It cycles through different colors. The most popular culprits will usually show on the black screen.
Go into a dark room and turn the brightness up. What you usually will see are bright white spots on the black screen which would be the stuck pixels.
Only the strong hearted and non OCD people should do this....Although any OCD person probably won't be able to control the urge to search for it now.
My Prime has developed a small bright spot in the center of the screen. It's only visible on white or light pages. I didn't drop the tablet or anything, it just appeared. Anyone else experience this?
EDIT: Here's a link showing a laptop with similar looking spots. The one on my Prime is much smaller than any of these, but it's a similar looking mark. I tried getting a picture of mine, but had trouble doing so.
http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/000p062e
EDIT2: I've learned that the defect I'm talking about is called "mura," or "clouding."

I have 4 of those spots.. three are within one inch and one of them is at least 3 pixels. I also have poor wifi, so I want to kill two birds with one stone. as soon Asus has a fix for the wifi I will rma..
I have the exact same "brighter" spot at lower center of the screen, don't remember it being there when I first got it... it's very annoying, I think I will send it back for repair.
My friend's first prime had that on his screen (2 white dots) when he bought it only visible on a white screen. He returned it for a new one. Thats why its important to check for those too when you first get your prime and put it through inspection, Just open up the notepad like app, that one has a white screen.
got one too. need to send it back for repair, just been too lazy to do it...
Read somewhere that those are stuck pixels. There's an app in the market that's suppose to fix stuck pixels as well.

I'm 100% certain the spot wasn't there when I first got the tablet, as I did a very close inspection of it. Actually, I was reading through a thread in an iPad forum and there were reports of spots like this showing up on some iPads after a while.

Thanks, but this is different than a stuck pixel, which I also have (I found the stuck pixel when I first got the tablet, but it's so unnoticeable 99% of the time that it doesn't bother me). The link below shows similar looking bright spots on a laptop (the spot I have is much smaller than any of these, but it's the same type of spot).
http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/000p062e
same story here. my prime has 5 bright spots (hot pixel) as well. i did not notice them when i got prime last year. pixel fixer can't fix these either. i can live with these spots though.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
I have the same problem, 1 bright pixel just below the home screen indicator.
It doesnt bother me that much, its the only problem i have with my prime and knowing theres lots of people with more problems im not gonna return it for a new one, having the chance to get one worse than i had...
My phone had the same thing when I first received it (still does), but it was my understanding it was a "hot spot" created by adhesive or undue pressure in manufacturing. It's not stuck/dead pixels, in my case at least, and my Prime has no such spots.
I however don't know what would cause something like this over time. Seems to me something in the screen is poorly manufactured and overheating...
Sent mine back and was told by Asus that the white spot is a kind of light bleed that caused by pressure at the area, they will replace the panel for me.
I've noticed that mine has a few white spots similar to who you guys are describing. Mine has two about an inch apart from each other near the lower left-middle of the screen, and another near the right hand side of the screen. I don't notice it when other colours are present, but on a white/light surface, it can get very annoying. I'm thinking I might call ASUS and see if I can get it RMA'd since it has other problems as well. The WiFI is actually pretty ok, but GPS is a total bust. I don't really care about the GPS that much, but it might be what I need to send this in. I'm just worried the white spots will get worse with time.
After reading up on this a little more, the name for the white spots we're talking about is "mura" (google "LCD mura" and you'll get some hits). It looks like it's somewhat common on cheaper displays.
Also have this appearing on mine and also didn't have it before.
I have only noticed it in the last week since I installed the latest update.
I only really notice it on the XDA site.
In my case it's definitely not mura (clouding), but more like pressure spots or pinpoints (usually 2-3 pixels in size.) They are more distinctive in shape than clouding. Either way, sucks for any of us to get these kind of issues. I've actually got an RMA # for mine and will be sending it out either tonight or tomorrow whenever I get a chance.
this can be mura, spots, poinpoints or w/e
i can tell you another one..... so i was working very hard on many several things on my tfp.... sending emails, writing proposals, getting images, working on ideas ect.
I started to get annoyed on how fast the tfp goes to sleep, so i decided to put it to Never. So it never went to sleep and it was awesome because my concentration kept going and i was jumping from my laptop to my tfp back to my laptop ect.
THEN.... i decided to go to sleep and i left my tfp opened connected while it was charging. I completely FORGOT that i had disabled tfp from sleeping. So it sat on the Home screen of my launcher.
When i woke up several hours later, i started to use my tfp and i noticed there was a white area that on every screen it was still there.
It was the outline of the icons! This is the reason why screensavers we're created so this wouldnt happen. This is an excerpt from our trusty wikipedia: (btw, apparently this isnt suppose to happen in lcd's but i assure you it happened to me on my tfp, its not that bad though, as i barely see it sometimes)
Before the advent of LCD screens, most computer screens were based on cathode ray tubes (CRTs). When the same image is displayed on a CRT screen for long periods of time, the properties of the exposed areas of phosphor coating on the inside of the screen gradually and permanently change, eventually leading to a darkened shadow or "ghost" image on the screen. Cathode ray televisions, oscilloscopes and other devices that use CRTs are all susceptible to phosphor burn-in, as are plasma displays to some extent.
Screen-saver programs were designed to help avoid these effects by automatically changing the images on the screen during periods of user inactivity.

So, let me ask you this OP, did you by any chance leave your tfp on for a long time with something on the screen? and the glow that you have now resembles that image/icon/object you had on the tfp?
If that happened to anyone, hit the thanks

Nope. I can say with 100% confidence that I didn't leave anything displayed on the screen that could have caused this. The spot is very small, and is just a little random blotch that doesn't resemble any type of image/icon/object. I've tried taking a picture of it with the camera on my smartphone, but I get those vertical bars that you get when taking a picture of a computer monitor and it's hard to make anything out in the picture as a result. Would using a regular camera allow me to get a good picture? If so, I'll see if I can borrow one and post a pic.
Also, the spot wasn't there when I first got my Prime, and it appeared after about a month.
As of now, I've decided against RMAing it, as (1) I'm afraid of getting back another unit with one of the other myriad of TFP problems, and (2) I don't feel like being without my Prime for 4-6 weeks.

What you're showing isn't a hot pixel. A hot pixel is the same as a stuck pixel and is much smaller (i.e., the size of a pixel). Your picture shows a different kind of defect, which I've been calling a bright spot. One of these developed on my Prime after owning it for a month. It's a similar size to yours and in a similar spot. I started a thread on this the other day.

Mine is in a very similar spot compared to yours. It's disconcerting that the spots both showed up after a while for both of us - mine showed up after a month of regular use. What if you swap it out, set it up again, and then have another spot show up months later?
I'm not RMA'ing mine at the moment, since there are so many other problems you can get with this tablet. I've been burned before exchanging tech items for small problems and getting back units with much worse problems. Plus, I've seen a few threads with people sending their units to Asus and then being told they won't get it back for over a month due to parts shortages. Also, I'm not holding my breath for it, but I'd hate to RMA for this now and then in a month, see a WiFi fix offered via RMA. Maybe I'll RMA it down the line, but certainly not now.

Do you think they were there all along and you just missed them, or do you think they're new? One of my concerns is more forming over time.
Does anyone notice faded icons on the status bar to the left? Primarily the email and text message notifications (that are more frequently seen in my case). When I don't have a text msg or unread email I can still see it, its faded. Reminds me of the older plasma screen tv's where you get a "burn- in" as you'd say.
Does not seem promising for a phone I've had for 5 months now

Its not screen burn in. Mine does it every once in a while. Its a software glitch. It goes away.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
This sounds similar to what happens on the original Kindle Fire with its IPS screen (don't know if current models do it too). You could sometimes see ghost images in dark areas of the screen. It was not really burn-in, though it did tend to appear when you had a bright static image for a while, because it would go away. One thing of note was that the phenomenon varied a lot between units. I could occasionally see it lightly on mine, not enough to be significant, but for some people it was a bigger deal (Amazon replaced them under warranty).

SOLVED!
I found a fix for the black line! I had the same thing and last night for half an hour I used the burn in tool off the market and forgot I had in usb debugging screen never time out so whenever I got a text the screen would be on for hours but anyways after useing the tool I let it sit over night for about 9 hours and boom! Its back to normal as for the status bar that just a software bug because there was nothing about it in the older ota update so it must be a bug right?

I come from an amoled so I notice certain things involving color reproduction. The only experience I have ever had with an LCD other then this phone was an iPhone 4. After a while I noticed colors started looking cooler and a fog around the edges of my LCD. The other thing is sometimes the black status bar has white steaks (as if the light was bleeding thru.) I came to the conclusion that lcd were crappy compared to amoled but I ignored the fog till I read your comment I was thinking maybe I am picky with the color but no. There is an issue.

Try display tester pro. No guarantee but worth the try
I had a Z replaced at least a dozen times due to dead pixels, eventually got a Z1 which had none but now it looks like Sony is plagued by them back with the z2
I've tried a few apps to fix it. Its only barely visible when on full brightness with a black background when its close to my eyes. No biggie.
Is this pretty common with Sony Xperias?

Every phone manufacturer suffers from these problems not just sony, I remember it was a common problem with the nexus 5 when it got released, if it's only 1 dead pixel then it should be much of a problem, besides I have heard you need at least 3 dead pixels to get a replacement
do you guys check for dead pixels with a magnifier? As now with these high dpi screens it's pretty hard to identify "one" dead pixel to me... maybe mine has but i don't think i can notice it without a magnifier lol
I only noticed it on the black screen in the dark. It doesn't bother me, it's only one pixel.

Same for me. Only visible on full brightness with black. Its never like that unless I check.
