I came to a realization last night. While I used to come to XDA for up to date info, mod information and general discussion involving the Android products I enjoy or are looking forward to...these days I have to sift through so much crap its loosing its luster.
Take the Prime for example. Everyday, people are *****ing and complaining about GPS or Wifi or BT or screen banding or whatever. Here is some advice. Go return your Prime or sell it on EBay or Craigslist to any of the masses that are dying to get their hands on this tablet. It is amusing to read all these threads of individuals taking their Prime so personally as if Asus stole your kids lunch money. If it is not obvious by now, any issue with this tablet are not widespread. My wifi works great, as does BT. GPS doesn't but why would I ever use it on a 10" tablet? That is what my Galaxy Nexus is for.
Long story short, if you are not happy with your purchase, return it and stop wasting my and everyone else's time writing rants about how Asus is evil and wronged you personally. If you made your purchase from a store that doesn't accept returns, then you are an idiot in the first place, but you can always hawk it on eBay or Craigslist. If you have something to add to an issue, by all means continue to post new threads, but 80% of what I am reading sounds like a bunch of 18 years olds complaining that life isn't fair. Welcome to the real world. Return your Primes, move on and relax a bit. Many of us are enjoying this tablet and come here for actual information....not Jersey Shore.

Considering that most of the big players read these forums this is the perfect place to complain if you want your words noted.
As XDA serves advertising just as much as it serves info and support complaining about complaints or asking us not to is utterly unreasonable.
Anyway, you are just as guilty about *****ing as anyone else, what do you think your post amounted too?
you nailed it.. its daycare for the internetz.
Kids come and stay here for hours bouncing off complaint to complaint
by the time they are done.. they are so tired they just go to bed..
well said.
So wait... the OP came to complain and people complaining... fail
In before the lock!!!
I feel like if anyone wanted to be heard, then they would just contact the manufacturer and then get back to us with anything they say. All of these people are just posting with the hope that doing the least stressful and easy thing (posting here) will fix their gps/wifi/screen problem when really if theres a problem they should just get a new unit or talk to Asus. I don't really mind complaining as much as I do redundant complaining. I know I don't want to hear anything about the gps anymore personally.

Fair point. Although maybe people will read it and put their egos aside, return the devices they like to complain about all day long and move on. This post is not to serve my bruised ego like many other posts that I am talking about are.

You didn't put "your ego aside" and think twice about posting.. like anyone else with an issue, you posted.
Complainer!
I tend to Agree with the OP. This used to be a place about solutions to problems not a place to ***** about them. There is still plenty of useful information here it just is becoming harder and harder to sift through all of the crap to find it.

True, but you will only see me post this once. Not on every thread like a bunch of users. Stating dissatisfaction once to make a point is one thing....repeating it 10 to 20 times is not.

This is what the internet was made for: Complaining! Well, and Porn.

Can we make a sub-forum for whiners??? This is easily the best Android tablet I've ever used. For quick reference I've have Ipad 1, Xoom 3G, Xoom wifi, Ipad 2, Galaxy Tab 10.1 16GB and now Transformer Prime. Long story as to why I've gone through all those but if anyone is complaining about ICS and Tegra 3 Prime, you need to be humbled with the Xoom on release.

I am tired of all the complaints, yes. There are issues, we know of them, Asus knows of them. Yet more threads about how someone is taking their Prime back or canceling their order are just growing tiresome.
We have a rule here about limiting preorder threads to one per country... perhaps we need a rule for limiting ourselves to one complaint thread.
>these days I have to sift through so much crap its loosing its luster.
You do realize that your post is a complaint itself, right?
Ie, given that your post doesn't contain any "up to date info, mod information and general discussion involving the Android products [you] enjoy," it is noise. You are contributing to the problem, as am I and everyone in this thread.
The solution is simple: discriminate. Read what you want, and ignore the rest. There's no law saying you have to read everything. Sift better. It's not anybody's responsibility to make sure you like everything you read.
Yes, noise level is higher. It's a given for any forum once it gets more popular. That's life.
If you want to improve the SNR, contribute. Don't post another ***** thread.

In short, was it worth it? YES! I was able to sell my TF101 and dock so that a TF201 and dock only cost me $200 out of pocket. The upgrades are well worth it....
-Everything is quicker including all home scrolling, loading apps, recent apps list scrolling, keyboard typing (no lag at all in chrome!)
-The thinness and weight is noticeable
-Keyboard docking feels more quality (latch)
-Keyboard keys feel more quality, tacky; not as plasticy
-Screen quality is slightly better
-Overall build is great, not creaky
Just a few initial thoughts...... I loved my TF101, don't get me wrong. I used it soooooo much. I'm glad I upgraded. I can't wait for the next one. I hope I can use this dock with the TF700 or whatever it will be called!

Same situation here! I sold my 32gb TF101 and dock and purchased the TF201. Huge improvement, all problems aside.

Hate sand in my bum.
While I applaud your enthusiasm and congrats on the purchase....the comparison has been done way before you got yours and not to be a ..well a poopie head...but this thread doesn't divulge anything we don't already know and actually clogs up the threads.
Please don't take this as a personal attack but more of a friendly chat to remind people and myself not to make needless threads...

Now don't take this the wrong way as i applaud your enthusiasm. But if you don't like his thread why not skip it and shut the hell up. Its the general section about the prime. Who gives a **** if someone makes a thread stating they like the tf201 that replaced their tf101. Does this in some way affect you? No it doesn't. And no, it doesn't clog up threads.

Normally, I'd agree with you. But since everybody and their cousin is making new redundant negative threads, why not some new redundant positive threads to counter them? If one goes to any of those negative threads and makes the point about unnecessary redundant posts, one gets flamed as a "fanboy." So, I say, what's good for the goose...

does it affect me? sure..cuz you post crap.."i like the prime" well duh. otherwise you wouldn't have purchased it.
Does it hurt me? no but having to read your rebuttal about "shutting the hell up" your thread does nothing..NOTHING to further the spirit of this forum. why not skip it? how can i when you posted this for no reason but to say what was an already given by your purchase.
And next time..i suggest you maybe use a bit more tacit when replying..and "shut the help up" is just plain rude and ignorant of conversation.
So, kindly refrain from being rude or go sell your prime and get off these forums which are for people wanting to learn about the device itself and not your preference for technology..and go listen to more Hanson.
Wow, looks like the hall monitor got his feelings hurt.....
Ha, "hall monitor"... that's exactly what some people are on this forum. I don't understand why they think they have balls, when clearly they don't.
Anyway, back on topic, just like this thread was when I created it! This is perhaps something I should post in the OG TF forum as well. I was on the fence like many, but wasn't sure. I had posted a thread a while back asking if I should jump ship, and didn't find too many threads on others who had done so.
It has Begun. People who satisfied with Prime n such will make new threads also constantly just like the negative ones. What's useless is 80 negative threads on exact same issue. Now that's what useless. Negative complaint threads either start consolidating or more n more like this one will pop up n easily push negative threads down. Don't get us started..lmao. this section of xda is so funny. Like a soap opera up here all day everyday. SMH
CANT WE ALL JUST......GET ALONG.... LMFAO

Ok boy wonder. Read the thread. I didn't make the original post. I could care less if he makes a post stating his prime is better then his original transformer. I'm sorry you won't get your 10 seconds of your awesome life back for reading the post. I'm sure it took more time to make your response to the thread then to actually read it and hit the back button. But you know, it's so detrimental to XDA that there is one more useless post in the general section of the Prime forum.
And like my post, your post did NOTHING to further the spirit of this forum. Your post was just as rude and unneeded as mine. Don't act like you're some better person. If there's a thread you don't like, don't respond. It'll get moved down the list and you can go back to enjoying your life that was ruined by a useless post on XDA.
And MMMMMMBop! (I think that's hanson anway)
Monkeyboywa, if this thread doesnt interest you just skip it. I for one am interested in what people feel the diferences are in the 101 ans 201. I am on my 2nd prime and have been trying to decide weather to bail out and go with the 101. So, I got a 101 and have been comparing them for a week trying to decide . What I have found so far is the wifi on the 101 is only 10% better than my 201 ( maybe I got a good prime as far as wifi), but in all else except gps the 201 excells. Video quality is close but I can see the 201 is sharper. So , my feeling at this point that giving up the prime for a 10%improvement in wifi isnt worth it

Your analysis and decision would be the same for me if I was deciding on going back to the TF or hadn't had the TF first. I know after having the TF101 that I couldn't go back.... the improvements are well worth it for me.
Even just typing this right now is so much better on the 201 than the 101.
man..i'm glad I got one too. differently smaller and more streamlined then my old tf101.
I swear it seems faster to. I mean..i'm sooo glad i got it.
It has bad gps..but really who bought this for the ability to find out from google maps where you are?
My wifi is really good too especially with the new .13 patch. The screen has a small bleed problem and one burnt pixel but that's a fry cry from the 1x3in dead zone i had on my first atp.
That better?
Hall monitor? I suppose so when you have people that decide to chime in about nothing..but then again.
Seriously guys, if you want to start this into a flame fest...then go somewhere else. if you want to post..post..but all I said was these forums are already clogged with "omgzogthisisbetterthansex" or "wtfimmasueeveryoneincludingthebabydownthestreet" comments.
Know one good thing about this thread? i dont have to worry about it ever again...going where people actually are contributing.
Had a TF201 for 13days, owned a TF101 that I sold just prior to the Prime purchase. Thankfully I was able to purchase the TF101 back at the same price. The TF201 may very well yet become a great device, time will tell if Asus can get the updates/fixes out, but aside from that IMHO the Prime has some design flaws (ie the MicroSD slot, the full metal jacket, the single speaker) I think many have got way too excited over ICS. Anyone that has used HC I think will not see any huge differance, for all those cell phones on GB sure it's a huge leap forward, but for anyone that has had a tf101 it's a minor update. For me the TF201 is not worth a $250 out of pocket upgrade over the TF101. Before anyone questions the math I had sold my tf101 with dock for $450, and I figure that a tf201 plus dock would come in at about $700

goodbye monkeyboywawa I wont miss you ----talk about usless posts clogging up the forum-
Now back on topic. 101 or 201 this decision is harder than I thought. I replaced my 32gb 201 wth a 64gb because I toasted a 32gb card because of the crap design of the card slot. That and the 32 had really weak wifi
So adding a card to increase memory is impractical unless you get a case that covers the slot. So the 64 201 is $150 more than a 101 + 32gb card. That is enough to buy a dock--- Im not 100% sure the performance boost of the 201 is worth it for what I am going to be using the tablet for. I am, however, noticing a definate lag in response in typing this note on the 101 as opposed to typing on the 201 and its anoying
. Also last night while comparing identical youtube videos side by side the 101 loaded up to 4 sec after the 201 even though I tapped the 101 first. These are both probably a result of the better processor in the 201
All in all I am having a hard time making up my mind
I know there are a few threads on this topic but none have answered my questions or are no longer on topic, so...
What I wanted to know and try to keep track of is what changes are being made to RMA'ed Primes that have the new parts in them and more specifically the Primes that were RMA'ed for Bluetooth/WiFi dropout (because I am having this problem ).
I was hoping to get people to post:
1. When you sent your Prime in for RMA.
2. What you sent it in for.
3. When you got it back.
4. Were the problems fixed?
Now I know that this is somewhat subjective but was hoping to hear from others if anything was changing for sure. As of right now I cannot connect BT and WiFi at the same time and am contemplating RMA'ing for the new parts but wanted to see if the new hardware was working from those already with an RMA. So if you guys and gals wouldn't mind sharing I'm hoping to keep ASUS accountable to this and encourage others to get their Primes fixed!
Please keep this thread on topic. We don't need another flame fest about what you want to complain about. We don't need to hear your speculations about what is going to happen either, just what HAS happened.

I believe the process is so slow or Asus doesn't really have all the correct information you won't see much additional info on this here. I'll probably send mine back this week and it will get lost in the RMA shuffle like my last one did. Yea, my original prime got lost and I was sent a brand new model. Different color, but nontheless a new one. I now have an RMA for the one I received back from my original RMA. One big endless RMA loop. I don't think this is costing Asus much, since it seems they only have 1 or 2 people actually working on this issue. I'm no Apple boy, but I do remember when my ipad2 screen was going bad and even before I sent out my RMA Apple sent me a new ipad2. That's what people pay for.
Still trying to work out my WIFi/BT issue. They have been very slow getting back. I'm not really able to have it sit for months in RMA, I have a 2 month old and use it as a baby monitor when I am home, and showing clients flash designs when I am out.
Would love some help Gary if you can.
Change of topic. Original topic was a "Can you return the prime in Canada" thread. Since i personally have succeeded, i am now sharing how i did it so you can do it too!
First: Make sure you have all accessories: Charger, cleaning cloth, usb cable, manuals, etc.
Tablet has to be scratch free and in very good condition. Try to clean all the fingerprints as best you can.
If you have the plastic wrapper that goes around it, bonus!
Put tablet in box as if it were brand new. Neatly wrap the cord, make it all look pretty.
Make sure the tablet is charged and reset it so when you turn it on it goes to the default setup thing.
Dont forget to remove your microSD card!
Go to your local bestbuy.
Tell them you got it as a gift
You opened it up and played with it for a few days and decided its not for you
you would like a return please. (Be kind, they are people too!)
Another option is to say "they got the wrong one" when you ask for the refund. If they ask if you want to find the right one say you dont really have time right now, you'd rather the refund and you can come back another time to get the tablet thats right for you.
They will want to inspect it. If you have obvious physical damage, forget it. If you dont have the packaging, forget it. If you give them ANY reason to reject it, forget it. Dont lie but you dont have to give them obvious reasons. "I just dont want it" is true. "I want to return it because the new version came out" Also true but a bad idea.
They will likely ask if you have the recipt. Tell them you dont have a recipt, it was a gift, the person who gave it to you didnt think to keep it. (I said it was from my grandmother who lives in another city, whatever seems plausable)
They will tell you they cant return it for cash but can do store credit. You say thats acceptable and try not to smile too big. (Also helps not to agree too fast). I made some comment "thats fine, i can buy something that better suits what i need when i get paid". If they offer to help you find something to buy with the card right away just say you really dont have too long to spend on this, you can come back another day to spend the money.
Edit:
Dont forget! when you go to buy the infinity bring a printout of these two pages and get the infinity for $350 instead of $500! It helps to email yourself the links so you can bring them up on your phone too. Bestbuy matches online prices now! (woot!)

I've had success in getting a refund from them ( still awaiting the cheque however).

No, ASUS directly.
I don't think anyone is going to have luck until the actual release date (August 17th). Before then there is really no point to try an exchange.

I live in Alberta and I have tried numerous time to return my prime for an infinity at different location. All locations were ready to send it to Asus for repair and they don't really care about the manufacturers warranty, they just want to send it to Asus to take care of it.

I know its sort of beside the point but what issue did you have to RMA it in for? how did they determine it was better to give you money than try to fix it?

I'd definitely like to know this too!! I've had mine since January- bought it from Staples. I had problems within the first month, but they just told me I had to go through Asus (even though they told me I had 30 days to return when I purchased it!!). I haven't RMA'd after reading all the horror stories on the forums, and I keep hoping an impending update will fix things (silly I know...). I'm so frustrated with the whole experience, and reading about what is going on now in the US for BB customers is just making it worse! I'd love to hear if there is anything we can do up in Canada...
I RMA'd mine. I'm waiting for the information package and how to send it. It was fine at the beginning but after a few months I started to have screen glitches, flickers. My Wifi is some what weak to none existant where my wife's Ipad does not have a problem. The number of freezes it can have is unbearable.

So how did it take in total since you initiated the process? I think I may be fed up enough to do it- I was willing to wait and see what good firmware updates did, but it's been 6 months... I'm moving soon though, so I might have to wait until the fall if the process is too long. The last thing I need right now is for it to get lost in the mail!!

Please post when you get the info-- I'm nervous about RMAs, and I'd really like more info on how Asus is handling them up here...
Has anyone heard of RMAs in Canada that have actually improved the Prime (in cases where the original was "fixed" and returned)?

Once my Prime is sent back to me from its RMA I can post my thoughts on any improvements to my tablets overall performance.
I just got my prime back today, after sending it in exactly one month ago, to fix the green camera issue. I had to call them up to escalate the issue last week, because it was taking so long.
Anyway, they returned it good as new. They also replaced the cracked back panel, which was nice.

I'm in Ottawa too, and I'll like to try to get an exchange too. Which store did you do yours at? Also, how did you pitch it? Kinda like "I got this as a gift and it's been plagued with problems"?
So i just got back from BB
Walked in, told the guy i got it as a gift, didnt want or need it, wanted to return it
He asked if i had a recipt
i said nope, was a gift from my grandma out of town
he asked if theres any chance i could get the recipt
i said not likely, shes old and forgets things
he said without a recipt they cant return it for cash, tho he could do store credit
i said thats awesome, i was thinking about getting a laptop anyways
processed the return, turned it on to make sure its going strong, checked i had the accessories, all was well. Got me a gift card for when the store has 700's in stock. woot!
Alright, I know if I search, I can find hundreds of articles about how this happens on amoled screens. I am not trying to beat a dead horse, but this will be my first amoled screen. How bad are the black spots? At what point is it bad enough to get a replacement? Being a "power user"(5 hours screen on a day), will the screen degrade before a 2 year contract is up? I jumped on a Rezound when it first came out, and it has burned me, I just don't want to feel let down because my screen went to pot 6 months in. Thanks

A second post? Really?
Sorry you don't like the answers but here we try again. Every single one of them will have it. Never seen an AMOLED screen that doesn't. Second you could get one worse or get one better. Pure gambling. Also, it doesn't get worse over time.
Apparently all this looking around and searching you didn't bother to read what you found.

I've had the phone for 3 months, at least 8 hours of screen on time per day, everything still looks like it's brand new.

Get insurance and don't worry about it.
The only reason I got insurance on this phone was purely because of the screen.

Huh? I've called with my old DROID and got a replacement because the colors were messed up on the screen slightly.
Also I got a replacement before because the headphone jack had some static.
Never had an issue. They also cover water, physical and and if it gets stolen so yeah... Not encouraging anything but it is really easy to get a replacement.

What he's saying is for a screen defect the warranty would cover it. So there's no need to pay for insurance.

Thanks for the responses, except for the douche response from no sympathy. If you dont like stupid questions, dont respond with stupid answers, just skip it. Glad you were able to rage anonymously at a stranger. I asked because i have read that after 1000 hours, the screen degrades. If you do the math, that means the screen starts going out in 7 months. Since this is my first screen that is a amoled, i wanted someone with experience with them. I was asking for personal experience, and it was helpful. Thanks guys.

You created two threads for the same purpose. Also if that is what you were worried about why didn't you say that in the first place about the 1000 hours etc.
Sorry that I tried to help you the first time only for you too make a second thread asking pretty much the same thing.
Also I can be far worse than this and have been. I am sorry I tried to help you since you don't seem to want help.

First, this is my one, and only thread about this. Second, the lightning bolt post isnt mine. It is the reason I asked. Third, I did read multiple articles, and threads, and the answers were all over the place. And fourth, I really like your roms on the incredible, thanks for building them. I think you got confused on the posts, and could see how you could get annoyed at someone spamming the same question, unfortunately, you got confused. I will give you the sympathy that you refuse to give others. Kinda hard to go all hard assed when apparently, you cant read the posts correctly to begin with. Why don't yoy take your own advice, and read before making comments. Here is where you posted in the thread you thought I created

Screen defect
And this is the thread I created. See different people. Similar question, but not really. I knew about the defect, just wondered how wide spread, and bad it really was. Really, not trying to be a little $#! T about it, but your attitude sucks. The reason there is a Q n A is for stuff like this. Hope we end up on the same side of the next arguement.

That's weird. My xda app is showing the same avatar for you and the other guy but it is different on the computer. I went off of that. Sorry! Lol. Fooled by the xda app. Thought you were just posting twice because you didn't like my answer before since these threads are so close and your post in this one mimics what I told the other guy too do.
I generally do have a bad attitude on here. Mostly because when I first joined this site people actually read first and read second and read third before doing things. Now people just either post questions without reading or post issues because they didn't read first. I generally give the person crap but still answer their questions. Could be worse and I could just be a jerk.
Also I don't think I ever made ROMs for the incredible?! If I did go me for doing something I didn't know I did! Haha. I've only released two ROMs and they were for the GSIII back when it first came out and no one could figure out how to deodexe them correctly and I decided I was going to learn how to dev and do it myself. That also led me to get a shorter fuse as if I could teach myself as much as I did, then why should everyone else always get a free ride and just be handed answers.
I also am man enough to admit that I got you mixed up with someone else here. Still doesn't mean you should have resulted in calling me names as to be fair we really didn't need a second thread with this as you could have asked your question in the other thread first.

Yeah, I should have posted in the first thread, my bad. I try and answer my questions in searches, and by doing so, I end up in all kinds of different forums. I took yout post the wrong way this morning, and didnt read it until later. Could have sworn I ran a no sympathy rom on either the incredible, or nook color. Anywho, was just trying to get a feel for how bad it is, and if it will bother me beyond belief. Like i said, no hard feelings, and thanks.

Just thought I'd put this out there. You WILL get AMOLED burn out just by using the phone. The second the display goes on for the first time the organic substrate is already starting to decay, it's just the way it is.
The catch is how long before you start seeing burned in app drawer rings and notification bars all over grey/white images. I'd expect if you use the phone for hours a day with the brightness up pretty high you could start seeing the burn outs in less than 6 months. They claim something like 15,000 hours of lifetime for the blue pixels, which have it the worst of the 3 colors, but people report seeing them in less than 500 hours. Brightness definitely has a huge impact as running with max brightness will result in much faster burn out.
Does it really matter though is another question. Before anyone flames my post and the information I provided as saying "well you're gonna get a new phone in less than a year anyway" just know that not everyone does that. Some people like to ride out their phones until they really feel it's time to get a new one. With this device I'd anticipate people riding it for at least 3 years and being very satisfied even at the end of the third year, with the performance. That means for those people holding onto this device they should be aware of ways to minimize burn out so they don't end up with eyesores 12 months into ownership.
As for the black spots, yep. Every single AMOLED device I've ever owned (around 4) they've all had it. Very disappointed that my Note 2 has them. Not all of them do but I wouldn't be able to tell you the odds of finding one without the splotches. Just know that I can certifiably say I know what to look for when searching for these spots and my brother's Note 2 100% does not have them. At all. Yeah, I am jelly.
So if you want to play the return/exchange game trying to get a display without the splotches good luck to you. Me personally? My display has 0 dead/stuck pixels. This to me is worth far more than a display with no spots but dead/stuck pixels. And that is my 2 pennies.

I have a minor black streak that is only visible when the screen is displaying a black image. Even a small amount of color on the back background makes it difficult to spot.
Overall I am very happy with the Note 2 screen.
my n7100 after a year now its a horror in the dark..first was some dots and now its in all the screen
