[Q] Phone not recognized by Kies - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, Kies doesn't recognize my phone.
I have flashed CheckROM RevoHD v6 on my device (kernel xwla4). Is it common that Kies doesn't recognize device or it should by normaly found?
Any solution...?

When you say doesn't recognize you mean doesn't connect with the phone at all or it connects but doesn't show the name and stuff???
Kies stucks some times... There is no problem of the Rom it should found it... Try (if you haven't already) unplug the phone sometimes and try it again.. Mine stucks all the time.. It should be ok.. at some point
Tell me if anything changed..

Try all the other Kies wont connect to my phone posts for answers .

Kies works with custom ROMs? That's news to me. :|
If you want Kies to work (especially for using Kies to get new firmwares) you should probably go back to stock.

It's normal bud, checkRom does not come with the Kies MTP app. I had the same issue. If you want to update via kies. Then go back to stock ROM and Kernel

Ok but I thought it is more or less enhanced stock ROM not completely customized.
Btw the main reason is I need to import contacts from HTC phone (vcf file) to my SGS2. I was going to try doing that in Kies.
Maybe anybody figured out how to do that in other way?

Is your HTC phone an Android phone? Then on that phone, sync your contacts to your Google account. Then on your SGS2, do the same thing. Done.

You didn't stipulate that.
Then sync with an Exchange account if you have one. Or some other account. Or if you don't want to share your contacts with any account you have, use your SIM card.

Ok so what about apps like New PC Studio? Ive installed it and also there i have problems to find my phone, is it the same because of using stock customised ROM?

Ok, i have played a little with my sgs2 and it figured out that it can recognise and import vcf files as well, the only case is to put such file directly on /sdcard/external_sd/
Now i will try to convert vcf file to xls file, edit it, convert back into vcf and import to my device. If anybody can advice such converter working in two ways and could share with such info i would appreciate that.

[Q] Unable to upgrade through Kies

hi.
i've been trying since yesterday to upgrade to gingerbread with no luck.
Kies detects my phone and prompts me to upgrade. right when it's supposed to start the procedure, it loses connection with the phone then reconnects and prompts me again to upgrade. so i'm stuck in this loop.
i have the latest version, i tried to uninstall/re-install Kies several times, reboot the computer, hard reset the phone, unroot.. nothing worked.
can't use odin either. i downloaded the firmware S5830JPKP9 from samfirmware but there were olny 3 files included (APBOOT_S5830JPKP9, CODE_S5830JPKP9, GT-S5830-MULTI-CSC-OJPKP3) and no MODEM file. someone already bricked his phone flashing it without the modem file.
so now im stuck!

Try flashing another 2.3.3 if you are planning to use the other 2.3.3 but without MODEM . That way it'll ensure greater safety when changing versions

Thanks Samsung
Kies is the best tools to upgrade firmware, as it peform full backup and full restore during upgrade.
How much time you perform upgrade with ODNI, and install all you apps + data ? waste a lot times.....
kies is best suited for newbies like me, once i flashed my phone with odin without backing up my data it was like hell installing every thing back.... now a days i use Titanium back up pro or My back up pro before flashing my phone with odin,,,

well i tried it and it works but i'm really disappointed with this firmware.
wake up lag is worse than with froyo. some weird behavior with calls and with titanium backup..
i'm thinking of going back to froyo :'(
Even I spent a whole day over trying to upgrade with Kies. It threw up all kinds of weird errors, sometimes quit downloading saying it's corrupt, or just stop in the middle of installation and bricked my phone. Finally just ODIN'd the one-package from samfirmware. It works over DDKC1. No need for any other GB as base first.
To me , I'd rather use iTunes than Kies . It throws less errors .

[Q] Are there Rooting options?

Dear all,
I'm having a connectivity problem with my Samsung Galaxy SII and I think I tried everything in all combinations possible that I could find in many many forums (it charges, but is not recognized. I tried: 3 different cables, 2 computers xp/w7, modem/pda code, 100x uninstalling kies and still no connection, no connection with ODIN, updating drivers, removing sd-card, debug mode on/off, mass storage, cleaning USBport with alcohol). Do you know any other options that I might try, or can I just assume my USB port is dead?
Anyway, my real question is the next. Is it possible to root the device in a way without using the USB cable? My from booting from SD-Card or so? I would like this in order to be able to update the firmware in the future with on-device apps, considering the USB-port is dead. For all the options I found in other forums, like ABD Wifi, Mobile ODIN and CWM, you need root on forehand.
It would be great if you could give me some suggestions! Thanks
Btw, I'm nowhere near a service point, and at this point would like to keep the phone with me, since it's working fine besides this problem
Have you installed the Samsung USB driver?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I don't want to jump to the wrong conclusion here.. but have you actually put your phone into download mode for this? ie starting from off.. hold vol down + home button, power on whilst still holding the buttons.
Maybe SuperOneClick ? Don't ask me the how/why/in's & out's of it as I've never used it. Search for it on here.
As far as I know, there is no way to root without using a computer connected via USB.
If the USB port is faulty, and you on stock, which it sounds like you are, get Samsung to repair it.

Has anyone tried to create an update.zip able to be used via the stock 3e recovery??
I don't know if it's possible to root this way but if it is it would be very handy.

If your phone is playing up/USB appears cactus and you're still running stock firmware/haven't rooted it/messed around with it in any way, why tempt fate ? Return it for warranty service/replacement, and when you get it back & know everything's working, then you can flash whatever rom/kernel you want or root the phone.
Last thing you want to do is root it or flash non-stock firmware & then have the phone die on you & be unable to go back to stock. Goodbye warranty.
You mean ODIN does not recognize your device? If so, make sure KIES is not running at the back. Did you updated KIES? Maybe you can go to previous version...
SGS II - XDA
Maybe this can help - certainly looks like the real deal.
Seems to work for the ICS ROM mentioned in the thread, you should be able to download all required files via the phone, you have root, and then flash whichever ROM you like.
Thanks all for the comments!

I flashed it with this non-stock firmware. I don't have any warrenty, since I'll just have to pay for the repairs. Probably, they'll use a "water damage" argument for my faulty usb-port, as I read in many other forums.

Root S2 I9100GDDKL1 (India)
Hi,
I would like to root my S2 to install Titanium Backup and setCPU to have better control over my phone (remove bloatware, control battery and performance and such). Not looking to install a custom ROM at the moment.
My handset specs are:
Baseband version: I9100GDDKL1
Running: Android version 2.3.6
Build number: Gingerbread.XWLA1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected]#2
I have been searching for an insecure and original PDA that matches the above to flash my device but have not been successful so far.
I initially started off attempting to Root using DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su but was unsuccessful as my PC was not recognizing my phone.
I hope someone can help. BTW I am a Noob.
This link is to a "G" model kernel flashable via Odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506954
Just make sure you only flash items for the I9100G and not the I9100 international version.
Have fun.

Thanks a bunch
Thanks yall,
The root worked like a charm. I was able to install all the root tools that I required and good to go now.
I used Odin ver 1.85 and flashed superatmos v.3.0 kernel. I then rooted the device using superoneclick (I could not get the S2 Root to work for some reason - It kept saying that the device was not connected)
Next steps:
Plannning to flash the original kernel back to remove the warning sign on startup - Any advice?
I am sold on the merits of rooting. The flexibility is amazing.
P.S. Could someone help me with re-flashing the original kernel? I tried searching for it over the net but could not locate anything similar.

You need a working USB connection to use Odin.
You could install the Samba app or something similar on your phone, copy the ROM to it via wifi, reboot into CWM an install from there (you'll need a rom in CWM zip format).
Alternatively, given USB worked at some point (as you installed a ROM) you could try uninstalling and reinstalling Samsung Kies and the Samsung USB drivers (they install wit Kies).

Multiupload and megaupload were forced to close some time ago by the US Department of Justice and the FBI. Any links pointing at those domains will not work and it has been known for quite some time.
You can try to find stock firmwares that are still linked to those two domains with CheckFUS or at samfirmware.com.

Had same problem. Make sure your modem, kernel, and rom are all GB and ucla1. for instance your kernel is probably lf5,should be la1.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
It most likely won't allow you because of the modem. If you don't have the gb modem it will not update. If all else fails you can do an emergency upgrade. Put phone in dl mode and run emergency firmware. It will not connect while in dl mode but will upgrade to ics.
Edit: Just saw the post above mine. Sorry about the double post about the modem.
Follow the directions and you will be fine...

This has been done time and time again to get custom rom phones to ICS without issue.

[Q] s5830i Can't send/receive calls or messages

Having a really annoying problem right now.
My girlfriend's phone broke and she got given a Galaxy Ace S5830i which is on Orange. However she said she hated the firmware it was on (Android 2.6) So I updated it to 4.1.2. I think I used Jellyblast or something like that.
But now it won't let her send or receive calls and texts.
I've literally searched the whole web for days trying to find a fix.
Also we've tried connecting it to ODIN while in Download mode and it just won't recognize the phone.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!

Well you have lost your Imei number, there is a guide in general section on how to restore it, and I Will say this one time only, Jelly blast is not android 4.1. Its 2.3.6 but edited. Its easy to edit. (look at mine) Also there is no Ics or jb for this phone. We are stuck on gingerbread for a while.
