My battery seems to fly out the door, how do you close down some of the running applications? I don't want to download a 3rd party app just to be able to close browser or mediascape X_X
EDIT: Also, I am trying to delete some apps with Titanium backup, do yall recommend deleting Google talk, Play Now, User Guide and Use Support? And finally there is a toolbar that has 4 pictures (one with a dot and signals going up, one for blue tooth, one with a satellite dish letting off a signal and one that controls the phone, what do the 1st and 3rd ones control? I have no manual with this phone.
Edit Edit: (Lol) How do you set .mp3's for ringtone and notifications(and while we are at it custom wallpaper), and is there anyway to change the unlock process of the phone?
Really, thanks to anyone who answers even one of my 50 questions.

3rd party
On the beginning of the thread you said you didn't want a 3rd party app to close tasks. However you should use something like "advanced task killer". If you open the app you get a list of running apps and you can unselect the ones you want to remain running.
Then you get a 1 click widget that remembers that (un)selection, leaving those apps running and stopping everything else. Very useful.
BTW check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=767849
The beauty of android is the amount of nice apps available!
EDIT: Just in case you don't read that thread through:
careful with LCD Density Changer you need ROOT with Superuser and busybox or your phone will brick
So better to stay away from that one.
Ya at the beginning I didn't want to use a 3rd party app to close tasks, it didn't make sense, now I can't get enough of ATK.
I have 2 new questions for everyone.
One how can I access the internal memory from my pc? And 2 how can I change the background color in menus like settings, messages etc. The blue background is super annoying.
http://www.launcherpro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2652
Basically (Especially in GB) Launcherpro is forced to redraw every time you go back to Home. This slows things down.
So here's how we fix it:
Open a terminal, type su and hit enter (you must be rooted for this to work). Now go look and see if you have a file called: /data/local.prop
IF NOT, then type this directly into the same su'd terminal: echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 > /data/local.prop and hit enter, and then reboot.
IF YOU DO, have an existing file called /data/local.prop already, open it with a text editor, and add a line at the very end (if an identical line does not already exist) with this: ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 and then reboot.
If you don't think it helps and you want to undo what this command does, then either delete the following file (if you had created it by typing the command into the terminal): /data/local.prop or if that file had already existed, then just remove that line we had added to it. That's it, back to before. No skin off your back to try this anyway.
Again, this is from the LauncherPro forum, I just wanted to bring this up for anyone having problems.
Well I tried this, and maybe its just confirmation bias, but I do feel like it may have helped a little. I didn't have much lag at all to begin with though. Thanks for finding this hungryman

i'm on gsbv1.6 as well and honestly there is no lag at the homescreen ever for me.
It should be more noticeable when:
opening the app drawer
switching to home from other applications
For me personally, the difference in speed when opening the app drawer is pretty large.
I've noticed a lag but didn't give it much concern... I'm going to give this a try. If it really works, I'm sure I'll notice an improvement.

I seem to recall the developer of LP (fede ?) mention that (at the time) that functionality didn't work (properly). It certainly may have been fixed by CM since then though.

It certainly may have been. I posted this here because I don't keep up with CM changelogs.
I know that Fede/ multiple LP users have reported the problem. That's evident in the thread.
Glad this topic was introduced. I had just accepted this as a GB issue. I tried the lock in memory option through CM ... lag gone!!
You could also type in "echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 >> /data/local.prop" (no quotes) to add the line to the end of your local.prop. It will still make one if you don't have one so the command should work either way.
I've been trying to recreate this issue and can't get LP to redraw. App after app; home comes right up like I never left it. Even after opening Adw ex for awhile, hitting home LP pops right up.
No eye deer.

That's separate amfetamine. If there's a fix to it it is not in LP, fede has already said it's an android issue and it can't be fixed on his end.
If the issue was fixed (it sure wasn't on mine, there's a noticeable difference) it was in some CM update.

Thanks for the sharing. I am considering to change the LCD density but not comfortable to root yet (still reading and learning....).
1) Can you help post the screenshot on home screen, app folder screen. If possible, can you install the CNN News and post this app home screen etc. Due to original 160 setting, the font on CNN News is extremely small.
2) Can you help posting the above with 240 setting.
3) Any problem install app thru market (i heard market can only install with 160 or 240 LCD)? Anyway I am prepared to reinstall the old mkt version as it does not has this limitation.
Sorry to trouble you and appreciate your helps and sharing.

I went ahead and compiled CM9's Trebuchet Launcher to work with within the Prime. You will need to put this in the /system/app folder and give it proper rights.. Otherwise it will error out while trying to add widgets

Will you be updating this as they release new versions ?
Might be an Idea to stick the version number in the title ..

Yea I figured that out and updated the OP.. you need to put the apk in the system folder and give it the proper permissions
So uninstall it and put it in your system/app folder then using root browser or explorer change the permissions to match the rest of the files in the system/app folder

im havin a bit of trouble installin as a system app.. :S
ive tried a couple ways (adb and systemapp remover) to no avail.
any help?
i copied and pasted it across using root explorer. made sure system was writable
This is my first post here.
I recently switched from iPhone to Note 2. I was very drawn towards a large screen with lots of real estate. The note 2 out of the box didn't do it for me. However, I read the discussions about the international version and people changing the DPI with ROMs and other methods and figured if they could do it, so could I.
After waiting 5 weeks for my pre-order to arrive, then a week for the developers to provide a root option, I finally have my wish. Here is how I did it.
1. Root
2. Install a custom launcher (I installed nova, which works for me.) Set it as default
3. Install a new keyboard and set it as default
4. Install LCD Resolution from play store. I found nowhere that discussed this option, but I tested on a GS3, GS1, and Droid Charge and it worked better than the other DPI changers.
5. Set PPI to 240 in LCD Resolution. Uncheck Always Set on Boot until you know it will be stable. This caught me in a boot loop on the GS3. The only other res I tried was 160 and it failed.
6. Reboot.
It should work great. There are a few things to note:
1. The camera looks bad. I have not replaced it with a new one yet. - Please post any suggestions.
2. The calculator and dialer dont look amazing but are usable.
3. Email in portrait doesn't use the whole screen. I use it in landscape and it great.
4. Clock does not work, but can be replaced easily. I have not found a new alarm to use yet. - Please post any suggestions.
If you get another DPI to work well, let us know.
Otherwise, this is a great mod if you need more real estate on your new screen without loosing any of the s-pen or other stock functionality.
Thanks to those of you who helped root...
hmm, doesn't seem to work for me. The prompt in the app to reboot doesn't do anything.
Can we see some screen caps?
just do it manually it doesnt cause boot loops. You can change it to any DPI you want.
Use root explorer
navigate to "System/Build props"
Hold down "build props"
choose "open with"
then choose "text editor"
scroll down a few lines look for "ro.sf.lcd_density=320"
Change the 320 to whatever you want, I use 240.
click "save and exit",
reboot your device,
profit.
Why would you want to change it if it makes stuff look bad?
you can also edit the build.prop via rom toolbox really easily and the results are attached. 240dpi is first 320dpi is second.
Your Samsung keyboard will also crash at 240dpi but you can replace it with this one made by bala_gamer http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1501015&d=1353535434

I haven't done it yet but a lower dpi would be great on this phone. It would let you take more advantage of such a large screen real estate.

It doesn't really break anything from what I've noticed, just makes a few things appear a bit differently, but still fully functional. It's worth a shot if you're interested in doing it, and you can always change back if you find it unmanagable. Personally, a per app dpi would be ideal, because you don't always prefer every app to be at 240 dpi. But I really like it, especially with the on screen nav buttons, which even those make some apps SLIGHTLY off, but still plenty usable, and worth the small inconvenience. To each their own though.

The white line is probably the miui battery bar, see if its on in settings> custom settings> battery bar settings. As far as the dpi, just use a root explorer to go into system>Apps>build.prop, then long press build.prop and open in text editor and change the line with "screen/lcd density" and change the value to 240(or whatever you want). Hit menu and save/exit then reboot. You are correct that you lose the edit function in multi windows, but you can always change back to edit your apps, then switch back. The change only takes 10 seconds.

Why you would want to is easy. Ever used a tablet and seen tablet mode on apps? Stock DPI prevents apps from entering tablet mode and that was one feature I was looking very forward to with such a big screen.

I couldn't get that to work either. I think it ma be a touchwiz conflict.
Just experienced my 2nd screen/sleep of death today, and unfortunately I'm thinking it's from the dpi. Going to change and will report back if I discover otherwise. I'll also leave my nav bar on, just to eliminate that variable. Bummer...I really hope we can incorporate a per app dpi on this phone at some point, maybe paranoid android(as long as it's reasonably compatible with the s-pen).
I also noticed my "android system" under battery was going through the roof. It was going over the screen %, but now that I changed the dpi back, it's already back under.
