So,
I am about to upgrade to my first smartphone from my trusty old nokia flip phone. Naturally, android is my OS of choice and i am now deciding on hardware. Here is where it gets tricky... I am a member of an AT&T Family plan. I am trying to avoid spending big bucks while still getting a good phone. My two choices seem to be the HTC Inspire 4G and the Motorola Atrix. It seems i can get the inspire for 69.99 from amazon wireless, but the Atrix remains at 149.99. Does anyone know the best price i can get an Atrix for on a family plan???

I believe RadioShack has them for 79.99 right now. I could be wrong but even if it goes up it's 149.99
You can try adding a line and keep the new phone for better pricing. Then just rent out the extra line. That's what i did. I charge my friend 30 bucks and only pay 10 a month for his line.

radioshack is a bust. I am a "added line", so upgrading to the atrix would have been $200+.
I have thought about the adding a new line trick but i really don't think the person that is the head of our plan will go for that.
I am going to checkout bestbuy in person later today. They only have a generic upgrade price on their website, not different ones for individual plans, family plans, and added lines like all the other AT&T distributors seem to have. Perhaps this is good news. I will update this thread with whatever i find.
Any other suggestions in the meantime?
Costco (not sure if changed) but I had early upgrade (18month+ mark) family plan atrix for 129.99 when everywhere else was either 150- $200 for family plan upgrade
The inspire upgrade was even cheaper at like $20 bucks
I second the Costco recommendation. They do a great job, and have a better return policy. And they give a cheap belt clip pouch as well.

Got mine at Costco for $119 back in March.. came with the belt clip(now using otterbox Defender), and a car charger which I liked.
The last time I went to Wal-mart they had the Atrix for 78.88.. And I think Sam's has it close to that price too. They just revamped their cellphone area in the two local Sam's clubs here..

Not sure what the sales person you spoke to was smoking. I've worked at Radioshack for 3 years and we've never charged different prices for "added lines" on AT&T. If you're eligible for an upgrade, you get the upgrade price. It doesn't matter if you phone is line 1, 3, or 5, the price is the same.
Now, we have in the past charged different prices for lines 3-5 on T-MOBILE but, well, the keyword there is T-Mobile.
EDIT (but not really, because I caught it before posting): Oh, I see what you saw. The Radioshack WEBSITE charges more for added lines on a family plan. Pricing does not work this way in the STORE. The online phone orders are fulfilled by a third party for our website, so they have their own rules regarding those things. If you upgrade to an Atrix in a Radioshack retail store, you will get the phone for $79.99.
Got mine at Sam's last week for $74.99.

I now understand that in-store prices and online prices varry greatly and as a result will probably be picking my phone up from Best Buy, RadioShack or Sam's Club. I did all my shopping on the websites of the respective businesses which produced very high prices for smart-phones on family plan upgrades. Oh how i miss the days of Newegg and Wirefly ruling the smartphone pricing game.
I will be off to AT&T then best buy and the shack after work to decide between the atrix and the inspire and subsequently pick one up.

So,
After all the effort of trying to find the cheapest price for the Atrix in my area i bought it at the AT&T store. But wait... it gets better. I went into AT&T after i got off work to play with both the Atrix and the Inspire to help me decide which phone i preferred. Atrix won. At that point i asked the employees that worked at the AT&T store which one they preferred and 3 out of 4 had the Atrix. The deal was sealed. I then proceeded to tell one of the saleswoman that i was going to head out to BestBuy or RadioShack to buy the phone because it was cheaper at those locations. To which she responded; "oh, we do price matching!" I didn't even have to leave the store and i picked up the Atrix for all of $25 before tax. I don't even know why she gave it to me for that price, which sounds more like price-match/2.
I think the key to this story is what i overheard while i was being rung up at the cash register. Apparently stores in the same area compete for most sales. But they don't compete for most profit brought in, oh no, that would make far too much sense. Instead they compete for most devices sold! Thus making the price that they charge you for the phone irrelevant to the people ringing you up at the cash register. Definitely a good bit of knowledge to have when haggling with sales reps.
I am trying to get a quote on my Atrix. It is a month old and barely used. What should be my asking price ?
In absolute perfect condition 200 is going to be the most you get. Sorry if you were expecting more but id suggest you go on craigslist and look for what they are going for any actually 200 may be asking a little much

Depends on your location. In Canada, a Motorola Atrix (unlocked) goes for about $300 but varies from $250-$350 depending on condition and accessories.
You can always try cell4cash or gazelle
such a shame, the phone's specs are just now starting to be challenged by other new releases, and it came out in january. HDMI out, 1Gb ram,1930Mah battery......

I've had my mint 4 month old Atrix up for sale on XDA and CL, and even at $225 shipped conus it still wont sell. Mint, non rooted and BL locked, all cables and og packaging.
It may just be a bad time of the year to sell.

Remember prices on these sites are asking prices. Here in Norcal I see CL ads asking above $300 lingering weeks. One ad is asking $450 has been posted for several months.
It's difficult to know but $300 seems about the point where phones actually sell. I bought one for my son for $150, but I am a patient man.
In my opinion none of the new phones are better than the Atrix. The GN has no sdcard and the RAZR battery is not removable. Both are deal killers for me.

I'm going to be adding a line to my existing account and I wonder if most of verizon's black friday deals will be for new customers only. I was also trying to decide between the Thunderbolt or the Razr. The Razr is like brand new so I expect it would be better. Anyone have one?
Razr has been great for me. Got it the day it came out & have no problems with it at all.

RAZR is an awesome device. There's absolutely no comparison with the Thunderbolt (maybe the Rezound).
If you're getting a new line and/or contract, go Amazon. From now until Monday all of their phones are $0.01, including the RAZR. They are also doing the double-data deal on Verizon, so $30 for 4GB.

Yep, that is what I did. I getting out of TMO...got 5 phones out for delivery today. 1 Razr, 1 Bionic, 3 Thunderbolts. Razr is for me.

I can't think of a single reason to purchase the Bionic over the RAZR. The RAZR is the newer of the two handsets from the same manufacturer. It's faster, thinner, lighter, has a better display, and a better camera. The only downside (for some) is the battery is non-removable. You can still hard reset, but you can't swap for another battery. If you use extended batteries, that may be an issue. If not (I never have), it's a non issue.
The real choice is the RAZR vs. the HTC Rezound. I went for the RAZR because I like Motorola's build quality and I prefer AMOLED screens. The Bionic isn't even in the running.
Is it possible to buy on-line GSM version of it in the US (New York for faster shipping)?

Is there a battery issue with the Razr that you would want to get an extended battery?
To get the 10% deal I see you can use Amazon, Wirefly, or the Verizon site...but will you still be able to take advantage of the double data special through wirefly or amazon?

It might be dead from Amazon, but I'm pretty sure it's still alive direct from Verizon. I just upgraded my data plan today and they're still offering the 2x.

I asked a VZW rep (which really doesn't amount to much, so take this with a grain of salt), but he seemed to think that the double data promotion would be around through the holidays.
Hopefully the rep was right. It would make sense to keep the promo going for the holidays.

I ordered both of mine in a retail store on 3/1 and they are still pending.. I cancelled those, called up radio shack wireless (online) and it all went through. mine will ship tomorrow and I should have it in my hands by 3/12..(possibly saturday, but who knows at this point)

What's holding up all the orders is all of us who depleted the stock back during the BOGO free sale. Not only did I get BOGO free I got $50 off the one phone I paid for as well. So I got 2 Maxxes, Maxxi? for $250!

I originally paid for 2 of them at a local vzw store so I could port from sprint... I paid for them AND a bionic (for my son) on 3/1.. I was told I would have both Maxxs on 3/3... they didn't show. The store manager told me that it was 'virtual inventory' and that I'd have to wait until 3/12 for them to ship... Then I noticed that ship dates were pushed back to 3/16.. Got sick of the delays...
After reading a thread here about a member that received a maxx from amazon in 2 days, I began shopping around.. Amazon has their own inventory (not virtual or back ordered) and can guarantee 2 day shipping if you purchase one. They also offer the phone for less than the $299.
Radio Shack wireless (online) also has real "i can touch the phone" inventory and guarantees next business day shipping if your order is received before 7pm. Also, for a new line or new contract, they sell it for $229.. for an upgrade it's $279.. and for me there was NO sales tax and no charge for shipping.. win-win in this scenario. I've been waiting over a week and been frustrated to beat hell because I can't get accurate estimates of anything from big red.. Radio Shack aims to please... My phoneS will ship today and there is a slight possibility that I'll get them via FedEx tomorrow and at the very latest on Monday.. Win Win situation for me..

The MAXX has been getting some great reviews, so it wouldn't surprise me that it's selling out at Verizon despite the steep pricetag.
Radioshack I've heard is a great place to get a phone, especially their warranty is rumored to be superb.

In case you were wondering...... I hate you...
Ordered a MAXX at a retail store on 3/3 and was told it would be delivered on the 6th or 7th.
Learned from the manager on the 7th that I was lied to, that the actual ship date was "sometime before 3/13". And that the sales person added things to my account I did not ask for. Still contemplating course of action in response to that.
Got the "shipped" email yesterday. FedUp says it will be delivered Monday (3/12).

That was probably me. I ordered a Razr Maxx from Verizon Customer Service on 3-1 for $299.
After 2 days of dealing with incompetent Verizon reps who continually assured me the phone was in stock and would ship any minute a supervisor finally told me on 3-3 that it was in fact backordered.
I requested the order be canceled and my upgrade date be reset.
Ordered a Razr Maxx from Amazon Wireless on 3-3 for $229 - it was delivered on 3-6.
I will never buy directly from Verizon again after that experience.
Got the email today saying to trade in my phone for an eligible jb upgradeable device to get my $100 visa debit card. One thing I'm truly surprised by is it said buy the phone (only atrix hd for att) from anywhere brand new and send proof of purchase and the bar code from the box to get it. So maybe an ebay purchase would qualify? Anyone else get their "offer"? Not like I'm gonna take it, just wondering.

I really don't find it worth the risk. I feel like Moto needs to prove they have fixed their updating first. It'll be at least a year or two for me before I consider another Moto purchase.

So I can either spend $349 to get an Atrix HD and have to give up my old perfectly usable Atrix, or I can spend about that much for a Xiaomi M2, get a better phone, and give the Atrix to my daughter.
In other words, Motorola can kiss my [CENSORED].

I agree totally. I've moved on to skyrocket, but I will not give my atrix to motorola to get another motorola that will be outdated in a couple months.
