Ok so I was in the process of putting a custom ROM on my Samsung SGH-T959D yesterday and the cord slipped out on my in the middle of the process.
Now I cannot get into "Download" mode, I can only get to Android Recovery Mode <3e>. The biggest issue I am getting is that the internal SD card is not mounted now and none of the options it gives will let me do anything.
Also, my phone is not being recognized by my computer so I can't use Odin. In a sense my computer does recognize it but only as a CD-Rom...
I have read numerous threads that say to push files from my pc to sd card but I am unsure as to how to do this with my PC not recognizing the phone as a mass storage.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. And yes I have tried multiple times to figure things out.
Phone Info
Telus Samsung SGH-T959D
GB 2.3.3 (What was on the phone anyway)
When running it registered a storage of 2GB and another of 13+ GB plus I can put my external sd card.
Android Recovery <3e>
-Reboot System Now
-Apply update from sdcard
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
E:failed to mount /data/fota (No such file or directory)
#MANUAL MODE#
If their is any other info that is needed please just ask and I will give you what I can as I will be keeping an eye on this thread.
I know this is a silly question but did you try a factory reset? Otherwise you could look into making/buying a download jig. Google it and all shall be answered. You can get one on ebay for cheap. Sorry I can't be of more help
I'd try a jig and push stock to the phone
</not an iPhone>
Just to update. I finally got the chance to order a Jig from ebay. Just waiting for it to be delivered.
Got phone into download mode via http://www.ebay.ca/itm/110798938624?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3113wt_1185
Currently working on getting Firmware and that back onto phone. Just waiting for the modem to finish.
Cmon over to our one stop shop thread when you want to retry custom

So recently I finally got my Telus Samsung Fascinate 3G+ (SGH-T959D) fully functional with Darky Rom 10.2 . Only issue I am having is I'm not sure if my battery is messed up or if my attempts to calibrate it have failed.
Any suggestions?

Reviving old post.
I think my battery is messed up because the phone will say 'fully charged' and as soon as i unplug it the battery drops to 80-88% and only lasts about 6 hrs with very minimal use.

I would flash a ROM and make sure you are at full battery when you do it (charge from an OFF state). Wipe batt stats when you flash it.
Sounds like you may have a bad flash, or could be that your battery is bad.

lol That's funny. That is actually the Rom I downloaded lastnight. I just have to figure out why my phone is not being recognized by my computer again. Have a feeling it could be the cord but not 100% sure.
Edit: Yup it was the cable

ALready wiped..
Try to reboot and it just stays at the overstock screen. any ideas?
USB mount wont work either
yeah...what exactly are you trying to do?
Im trying to flash a custom ROM but for some dumb a$$ reason i put the rom on the SD card instead of the internal. So when i go into clockwork and try to flash it, It wont find it. I already wiped everything so when i try to reboot it just hangs on the "Overstock: screen.
I cant find a damn thing on my situation. Ive been at this for 4 hours..
Im able to go into clockwork still, and download mode.
mount ur sd card from cwm and transfer ur rom file...then flash it
You phone soft bricked from a wipe? Weird. Wipe again maybe. Wipe data, cache, and dalvik and then try to reboot again. If it still hangs then you'll probably have to Odin to jfd.

He must have wiped /system?
Doesnt matter, you can odin or you can use adb to push files... you can find help with both of those everywhere... good luck

Erm nevermind about adb, i believe yoi gotta be in debug mode in the operating system... just odin to stock and flash your custom a$$ rom lol... small setback

Wow, the OP here is pretty horrendous.
Flash another rom on your internal (assuming you have one since you said you see the overstock splash... unless you deleted it, it should be there)
ODIN to JFD.

Thanks everyone. Haha Yea i was at it till early hours here after working a 12 hour shift. I ended up having to Odin. I couldnt get my computer to recognize my phone. So usb mount didnt work. I just came from the Mytouch 4g Forum so everything for this phone is brand new to me.
I did wipe /system. Weird thing was that with the Mytouch i never ran into any issues.
Thanks again everyone
Hi, i'm a new user of SG SII, and i don't know much about it. I was trying to install new ROM on it, first I tried to unroot my phone with CF ROOT, after that everthing was OK. Then i tried to install REVOLT JB i9100 ver 2.8.2, when i got by CWM in recovery, instead of clicking wipe data, then cache and ccache partition i did: wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition, wipe dalwik cache and format system. I flashed kernel and during ROM installation phone turned off and did turn on. i think it's hard bricked. I don't know what to do, please help.
Are you still able to get into don't download mode o your phone ? ( volume down, home key, power button )
If so, reflash your kernel and go from there.
Also have a look at CyanogenMod, they have a good post with instructions on here.

no, phone doesn.t response on anything, even if i'm charging the battery.
Try removing your battery and unplug cables.
Then try download or recovery mode again.
If it really doesnt work then there is probably something fried on your system board, doubt anything you can do about it as i had the same not that long ago out of the blue.

You can always tell them that you were updating via kies and it dropped dead just like that.
Your battery was low when you tried to flash it, wasn't it?
try a jig first tho; there's something fishy about those wipes you mentioned.

On some occasions flashing a device can use 40-50% of battery to prep and flash device which is why its advised to never flash your phone unless you have at least 50-60% battery.
If power cuts out during flashing procedure it can damage nand/ic chip, corrupt bootloader, corrupt sdcards etc.
After leaving it plugged into to charger overnight try a USB jig to see if you can get it to wake up in download mode, If you can re-flash rom and go from there.

From what you described, it couldn't have hard bricked your phone. In fact, it isn't easy to hard brick our phone unless you install that infamous ICS 4.0.4 leaked ROM or mess with flashing of PIT file. Try to use another fully charged battery to boot up or go into CWM recovery.

while i was installing new rom, process was like 0% for about 5 minutes, and then phone just turned off. When i did flashing and installing CWM everything was ok. I rooted it with CF root.
Exact same problem here. Followed the root guide to the letter and all OK. Set omega rom installing and it stayed at 0 for five mins then it shut off. Now no life at all.
Gonna build a jig tomorrow so I'll update here if it works.

Your phone have got super brick, and the JIG nothing to do.... You must go to service.
The reason for this is stock kernel who has kode cause brick.

This is the situation and what ive tried to fix it. I was on cm9 and wanted to try jellybam so I flashed using cwm . It was successful but wouldn't boot so I tried to reinstall the rom still no luck so I tried going back to cm9 and it got stuck on the s2 logo screen ! I tried odin to flash a stock rom and it was successful but still stuck on the logo screen. Ive tried gb and ics ive tried to flash with and without bootloaders ive tried reparation but that only fails unless I use the pit file but still didn't fix it. If I flash the stock rooted ics rom and then flash cwm zip i can wipe system then flash cm9/10 but that only gets me to the cm animation . It will sit there till the end of time but wont boot! In cwm If I check the log I get this error I:can't partition unsafe device:/dev/block/mmcb1k1p1. It wont factory reset on stock or cwm it only freezes then bootloops. I hope this is enough info please help me! I love my s2 and even tho I have my s3 I miss my s2

Sent from my GS4 running CM11 Kandy Kane
Lol no that's not rude. I would ask the same question. ..I did and from what I've gathered its a corrupt sd card or part of the emmc brick bug. There are patched kernels to fix the same issue on the note but nothing for i777. All it says is factory reset and flash a new rom . Ive done that but still no boot. Roms flash fine and I can get into download mode and recovery but It wont factory reset or boot. Stock recovery says your ui is not prepared please factory reset and a bunch of can't mount data errors but it won't factory reset it just freezes then trys to reboot but gets stuck on the s2 logo then back to recovery. Here is the kicker tho. If I install a duel booting kernel I can install a second rom that boots but primary won't. ...I tried swapping primary and secondary roms but it froze....im just lost on this one and out of tricks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'm not sure what partition that is. You've go a typo in it, but if the last three letters are correct "1p1", I don't remember seeing that as one of the system partitions. The kernel is in "mmcblk0p5" for instance. It should be "mmcblk1p1" I guess.
If you suspect memory damage to that partition, you can confirm that by trying to pull the data from that memory block with adb or terminal using the following command:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk1p1 of=/sdcard/testBLK
If the memory is damaged, you will get an error message. If the memory block is good, you will get no error message. I guess you could also look into "testBLK" to see what is in there, but of course it will be binary data most likely.
That's the error I got 1p1. Abd is something I haven't done yet. I've used terminal emulator back in the days of my cliq dext but im sure I can handle it...im pretty sure it is corrupt but if I do the test and confirm this how do I fix it? Is it just a matter of deleting or do I have to rewrite the path? Im confused on this
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Actually, this was bad advice. Since your phone is bootlooping, you can't use terminal, doh! If you can get into recovery, you might be able to use adb. Or you could use Red_81's adb portable. You could also try his adb batch file from download mode to see if you can boot it into recovery mode. I guess it will take a little study if you have no experience with it.
Oh, and if the memory is bad, its bad. This is just a way to find out, maybe.
So what your saying is it's dead?!!!
Noooooooo! Lol im looking into maybe getting another one or shipping this one to Samsung to have a new motherboard put in . Just trying to see if there is any hope of bringing her back to life...

Not saying that unless you verify for sure that the memory is bad. The only time I've actually heard of eMMC damage, and seen it verified, was in conjunction with the bad stock kernel on 4.0.4. There was also another case where a member sent his phone to Josh at Mobile Tech Videos for Jtag repair, and it was sent back unrepairable due to memory damage. I can't remember for sure, but I think that was due to the 4.0.4 stock kernel too.
You might talk to Josh at Mobile Tech Videos by phone to see what he thinks, before you send it to Samsung.
I tried contacting josh and couldn't reach anyone. I left a message and sent and email but haven't heard back. I tried using adb portable and as I did that I think that I didn't make the phone issues clear. I can get into recovery mode fine I can also get into download mode fine . I have run into something similar, my wife has the s2... I have the s3....
this is the steps I run to get the s2 working after it gets stuck...
1 - installed stock rom I777UCKH7 OCD Root No BL = self executable from windows.... brings you to stock with root..
forget this one, this is when I was first rooting... 2 - DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su
3 - MobileODINLite-v3.57
4 - MobileODIN_FlashKernel_I777-v1.0
5 - flash kernal Siyah-v2.6.14-att.tar = installs recovery clockwork mod
6 - install any rom....
Download mode on S2 is volume up and down and power button....
I can't get it to boot up so I can't use mobile odin. I've tried one click and also tried every stock tar I could find . I even tried to reinstall the bootloaders. They all install successful but it wont boot past the s2 logo screen. Im not a noob , I've flashed hundreds of times. I've fixed a few bricks in my day but this has me stumped. ...if you install the stock rom there isn't any reason why it shouldn't boot. But it is just stuck. Nothing has worked. I think the only thing that may work is the re write the memory but im not that patient to do that lol

I have a T-Mobile Galaxy Vibrant that was running Android 2.1. I rooted the phone (successfully), and installed Slim Bean 4.2.2 plus Google apps. Everything was going smoothly and I was reinstalling apps and data when I noticed that I had no network phone connection. Slim Beam did not seem to recognize the sim, and I came up empty searching for networks. I removed the sim and put it in another phone, and everything was fine.
I decided to restore the previous android 2.1 (which I had backed up) using ClockWorkMod Recovery. I did restore, then reboot. Now the only thing I get is the initial screen ... Vibrant and Samsung in bold white letters. I have tried repeatedly to launch CWM Recovery, without success.
Is it time for a new phone?
Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions
Thanks for the suggestions, but my phone is somewhat "challenged." I got it for free (that's the good news). The previous owner gave it to me after the power port/usb connector got damaged (that's the bad news). As I understand it, all the suggestions require a usb connection ... something I've been able to live without for the last year. Maybe I should give it a shot and get the usb port repaired, or maybe it would be cheaper/smarter to go shopping. I'm going to need time to think about that.
Thanks again to both of you.

If there's any way you can get into cwm mode then you can first add the zip file of the custom rom from your pc to your sd card via a card reader and then try to flash a new rom. I think the problem you are getting at the moment is because you did not format dalvik cache and some other things before flashing

So, i have a very strange problem. I had some problems with my sim reader and bought the cheapest phone i could until my new sim reader cam in. the phone i got was a windows phone. i pulled the sd card from the note 2 and stuck it in the windows phone. after the sim reader was replaced and everything was all good, i pulled the sim and sd card from the dreaded windows phone and stuck them back in the note 2. all good until i went to charge the battery. when i plug it in, i get a message if "battery disconnected"
i have tried to re-flash the rom, wipe everything including the sd and internal memory. tried different rom, different battery... different sd card
here comes the strange part. it will charge while in recovery and connect to the pc. so i don't think it can be the charging port.
i am thinking the card did something strange
any advice???

You said you replaced the SIM slot, you didn't by accident jar the charging port ribbon cable loose or damage it? Hopefully the replacement gets you up and charging properly.

It was working for a day.

replacement usb port did not do it.
i still think it has something to do with that damn windows phone and the sd card
The only 2 roms that work are sky note and dn3. Still strange.

Might be a silly question. Did you try a different charger?

This is strange.. I have a suggestion.. try going into Settings> Backup & Reset and do a factory reset from there..if that doesn't work try odin the stock recovery and then perform a factory reset in the Stock recovery..just follow the steps in the sticky general thread for Data Corruption
I have odin back to stock. Factory reset in rom and recovery. I have tried a new recovery. Used the pit file while odin back. I have ##rtn# Changed battery. Changed usb port. I will have to look in the data corruption thread. I feel like it will be something dumb.

It's dumb when it indeed helps people.. So you did a factory reset in STOCK recovery..Not philz or twrp..STOCK
Well..... I know I wiped cache and dalvik... with stock recovery. but maybe not a factory reset. I will try. I will try anything for that matter.

Yea. Make sure. You need to do a Factory Reset. Wiping dalvik and cache will not achieve much of anything in this situation
I figured the ##rtn# from stock would do it. But.... nope.

Nope, factory reset did not solve it. still same.
if i adb shell and mount and post results, would that help?
or a logcat or something?

this is what I found in my logcat
I plug in, i get an info box with "battery disconnected" and an ok button. i click ok, and turn off screen.
shortly after, 2 beeps and a dim screen back to the info box. so I know this is the right place in the log.
this is from an "I" log
