Need help - HTC EVO 3D

Hi there, I have a noob question here (cdma). I am at mean ROM 3.3 with hboot 1.50 s-on. I also have the latest 4ext recovery and flash image GUI. I am desperately trying to flash mean 3.7 but everytime I tried to flash all I get is an error opening package (bad). I tried to redownload for couple of times but the problem persists. I tried flashing the kernel (chad's anthrax) first and the kernel is successfully flashed, but the ROM still fail to flash.
Anyone can help?

wiping battery stats is uneccessary. when you wipe data, you wipe battery stats.
batterystats.bin ..... directory is /data/system/batterystats.bin
again, uneccessary. clearing the data partition does this. every single time you flash a ROM and do a "full wipe" you are clearing this bin file and resetting it's statistical data about your battery usage.
it has no effect on battery life whatsoever.

I agree mate. But, do u have any idea why I can't flash the ROM? I have redownloaded many times just in case my downloaded file is corrupted, still the same though.

You need to wipe data. Wiping the system doesn't get rid of the data partition.
Try using super wipe?
wipe
yes you need to do a full wipe and use a super wipe tool and then flash rom

[Q] Omega ROM flashes inquiry

Hi,
I was using stock firmware up until yesterday I flashed to v5.2 successfully. Everything is working fine. But I just have a question, I remember that after the flash, and the phone rebooted and I connected to my wifi...the phone automatically started to download and install all the 4 apps that i had personnally installed on the stock firmware all by itself ..
I'm asking because I see that there a v6.0 available and would like to flash that. But before I flash, do I need to do the following wipes?
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik Cache
If so, do I need to do this for between EVERY Omega flashes to ensure it goes smoothly? Thanks

You should only have to wipe cache and dalvik then flash the ROM. You'll be fine, I also always format cache and system in the mount and storage part of Cwm recovery BEFORE flashing the ROM, never had an issue.

No, full wipe is when you delete all user data as well.

Ok I found the definitions of what a full wipe and no wipe is:
Full Wipe Install means:
- Wipe Data / Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
- Format System partition
- Install
No Wipe Install means:
- Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
- Install
Just a question, in the FULL WIPE listed above, where would I find "Format System Partition?" I don't recall seeing that..which category do I enter to do it?
CWM recovery mounts and storage format system .

[Q] Twrp recovery -- do I also wipe system before flashing new rom?

Hello. I have backed up my stock rom and would like to flash a new custom rom. Team Win Recovery is all new to me as I used clockwork recovery and Amon RA on my old evo 4g. Before I flash a new rom, I know I'm supposed to wipe cache and dalvik, but do I also wipe system? Thank you for your help in advance.
If you're flashing a different ROM all together, then I usually do Factory Reset, Cache, Dalvik Cache. (in that order)
I don't know that the order matters, it's just my way of doing it, and I've never had any problems.

Thanks for your quick response. Gladly appreciate it! But there's also an option in the wipe menu to wipe "system". In the wipe menu, there's: cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, battery stats, rotation, system. I wiped cache, dalvik and battery, anything else I neeed to wipe before I install a custom rom? In clockwork recovery, all I used to do is wipe data, cache and dalvik.

Yes, when flashing a fresh ROM wipe EVERYTHING, including system. I usually wipe a few times just to make sure I'm starting fresh. I haven't used this super wipe but you can also check this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1700211
Edit: I don't usually worry with wiping battery stats or rotation

Thank you. I wiped everything and performed a factory reset.
You don't need to wipe system. Any decent rom out there will wipe the system for you before the rom flashes.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe that the factory reset wipes system anyway.
No factory reset does not wipe system. Also do not use super wipe zips. They are bad for you

Factory reset wipes the data partition. It does the same thing as the factory reset within the phone settings. If you wipe system, it completely wipes out the OS, and there will be nothing to boot. Of course you can still get back to recovery. When you flash a rom, by default it should wipe the system for you and replace the system with the rom you are flashing. There may be a case where you are flashing an incremental upgrade, which will not wipe the system.
The reason you do a factory reset (data wipe) when flashing between roms is because settings and other stuff that was saved on the data partition may not be compatible with the rom and cause issues.

Based on what?
Based on what developers have said. Super wipe originated from a CWM issue back on the EVO 4G and people never seemed to of forgotten.

The issue was with cwm not superwipe. The superwipe created for this device works fine.
the issue was with cwm, the superwipe was made to combat that issue. a good dev will set his rom to wipe system. all a user has to do is factory reset in recovery. Superwipe is a unnecessary step and could be bad for the phone if its corrupted or the person who made it did it wrong.
really great info, thanks guys!

Yes. A system wipe doesn't affect recovery. It just wipes the system partition on your phone. The recovery partition remains unaffected.

Phone startup failed

Hi everyone !
As a new Android user, I'm in a need of help... My GS3 is running Omega 8.1 (not sure of the version...) and I've tried to install the battery fix thingie but now I an't start the device anymore.. It's stuck on a screen and I can't do anything about it. Tried CWM recovery mode to restore a back up I've done before but it says it can't mount /sdcard or something like that...
Is my phone bricked ? Is there a way to rollback what I've done and save my datas ?
Thanks for your help.
Here's a screen of what I have when I start the phone :
Boot into cwm, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, then advanced, wipe dalvik, then try restoring

[Q] Nightmare Sence Booting up problem

I had CM10 and i decided to give Sence 4 a try as CM10 isnt too stable. I followed all instructions i wiped data dalvik and cache in 4ext recovery then, in aroma i did a custom installation did a full wipe and only clicked on SuperSU by chainfire while using Nightmare's Kernel and rebooted in recovery not in aroma itself as Sportsstar89 said in the installlation video. Everything seemed to be going good the white HTC boot animation showed up but then it got stuck in the black HTC screen for a good 15 min. i had to go back into recovery and flash cm10 again. what did i do wrong? when i went back into recovery to flash the back up it said that 4ext was in "safe mode" and that i had to wipe cache(which i did) and then restart the recovery.
i really want to use sence 4 but i dont want to get an error again and brick my phone or something. has this happened to anyone before?
You have to do a full wipe if going from cm10 to sense. (Or vise versa)
So do a factory reset, wipe both caches, and wipe system. Then flash

you need to format the system also.. since CM10 and Sense are like hmm windows xp and windows.. 8... yes its still windows but you wanna format the HD not just try to do a "update" lol.. if that makes sense.. but yes a full wipe includes all of the following.. (wipe data/foctory.. wipe cache.. format system and lastly wipe delvik )... or you can just dl the "super wipe" script in my sig and just flash that then flash a rom, because it's suppose to be able to do all of the above (plus realign the partitions and fix system file errors)
