'Dot' on Sony Smart Watch - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

On the new Sony Smart watch there is a dot to the left of the display where there is a hole in the black backing to the glass. This is also clearly visible on all the product drawing in the user guide. Any idea what this is for, is there some currently unused sensor or LED behind it?

[Q] proximity sensor non existent?

Hello,it seems there is no Q&A forum for this device, so here is my doubt:
Although the tech manual for the xperia S from the sony website report a proximity sensor, I fail to find one on my phone.
There seems to be a black oval spot on the glass next to the light sensor as if some sort of sticker can be removed to install the sensor.
The light sensor seems to work, since I've seen the screen go darker and brighter, but when I'm in a call and put the phone in my ear the screen wont shut off like in my old SGS nor will it turn on when I move the phone away from my face.
are your phones like mine? or is mine a defective unit?
I guess ur device has something wrong with it.
By the way; did u place a screen protector?? Coz if u did that may be the problem!
I think the light and proximity sensor are the same.
There is something wrong with your phone, maybe you should try to flash a new firmware.

Hi,
Mine works fine...
Do this:
1>Go to dialpad and type *#*#7378423#*#* (*#*#SERVICE#*#*)
2>A menu pops up in that u will see service tests select that
3>Then scroll down and select Proximity Switch
4>Initially it will display as OFF. Now u place your finger or hand on the Proximity Sensor, then the value of Proximity Switch on the screen will change to ON.
If this is working then the sensor is just fine u need to update the firmware else u need to go and replace the piece IMO though.
Thank you all for the feedback.
I used the service menu to check the sensors ...
indeed the proximity sensor is always off, even when I put my finger on it, it seems someone forgot to remove the black paint from behind the glass, but I will update it anyway to make sure before returning it.

sensor is IR, so darkened window is normal for it. but if it have always closed windows - than its status must be always ON. so, most likely you have faulty sensor (or bug in firmware)

If it was covered by the glass/ cover it would show OFF because the glass doesn't radiate heat like your body does.

Proximity sensor on phones does not react to heat. It have simple IR transmitter, which emits a beam, and IR sensor, which react on reflected beam.

You are right, just tested it and it seems to be a reflective sensor.
thanks for the tips, it was indeed a faulty sensor and they gave me a new phone right away .
I hope I don't get any more problems like a yellow tint :X (knock on wood with fingers crossed)

[Q] Digitizer grid?

Hey people!
I have had this Sony Xperia Z2 for about a week now and I'm happy about everything but the screen. When tilting the phone in decent lightning I can clearly see the grid in the shape of lines going vertically from the top to the bottom of the screen like you can see on the posted photo. I can also see the dots when the sun is shining but this is something that everybody is reporting so I'm not worried about that.
So my question is, do you also see this and as clear as I am?
Yes, you can sleep well, we have the same visible grid. This is a price for thinnes of display.
Nice

Okay, please write here if you find out something about this subject. I find it quite strange though that no reviewers even mentions this when I picked up on it instantaneously.
About their technology, I saw a video from sony where they showed the display and the things underneath the screen. At one point they showed like blue lights shaped like lines which probably are what we see when looking at the screen from an non straight angle.

even my z1 had this i guess its the technology use in the screen ( ex. triluminos )
It's in all capacitive touch phones, but it vary from one to one on how easy to spot them depending on the screen and touch screen technology...
I had these in almost all my phones, Sony and non-Sony so don't worry...
In Xperia Z is the same.
My first phone had massively visible patterns on the screen and were clearly visible when the screen was off, I got my device replaced as it had gaps and over heating issues and the new device I received has nothing on it. Even the ones on display in the store had none. So i will put it down to a certain batch / manufacturing lot carrying these patterns.
PS: my first device was a W15 and the new one is a W19.
Can anyone post a picture with the digitizer visible in order to assess if this would be an issue?
Thanks.
I wonder if it has to do with how reflective the Z2 screen is. I've noticed that it's more reflective than most smartphone screens. It's not a huge deal to me, but I also think it's why some people complain about the outdoor performance. Ideally Sony will improve this in the future.

Display with one dot?

Hello,
I've recently got a Motorola 360 and i've noticed there's one small dot, i'm sure it's not a dead pixel as i shined a torchlight over the top and noticed there's just a gray dot whilst the screens off, Im unsure if Motorola will replace this for me? It's quite small so i can't capture it on Camera, It's just messing with my OCD
Do you use Wear Mini Launcher? If you do, it is a setting in there for "Enable assistive touch". Someone on another forum had pictures of something similar yesterday.

Pretty sure it's not the assistive touch dot. He's talking about something that is visible with the screen off, and the assistive touch dot could certainly be caught on camera.

That would bother me, too. If it were me and it persists, I would definitely try for a replacement.

Thanks for you responses I popped into store today and they confirmed it was a manufacturer fault in which they rightly exchanged me for a new product + I've noticed the new one seems to have a better display?

can anyone see light through fingerprint sensor ANY LIGHT AROUND THE SENSOR?

i see a little white dot at bottom of my fingerprint sensor
i see display light through fingerprint sensor its very tiny
can any 1 else see it thru the sensor?
tell me
iv attached the photos they are not that clear but you can see a dot at top little right from centre at corner of the sensor
I don't have this issue, but what is the problem with a power button/headphone jack that lights up on its own?
This phone is not waterproof anyway.

I don't think it's normal for the components to be visible! It is very annoying and distracting

You don't see it the components of the finger print sensor the small and large square between number 5 and 8. They are only visible in direct sunlight on light/white wallpapers
Did you expect a component that is able to read your fingerprint, located under glass, to be completely invisible in every possible situation? ?

Actually OP has a pretty valid point, and you are being just annoying. Nobody expects to see stuff from under the screen no matter what on any device. Only the display contents are supposed to be visible.

The above being said.. I don't think I can see this under my screen. I have never noticed this (but have not looked for it either). Either outside under sunlight or inside; on bright and/or white background apps. Mine is BOE screen, not LG, if that makes any difference.
