I have a nandroid stock backup that I would like to restore to, however system restores but boot image is stuck at "Restoring boot image..." and goes back to the main CWM screen with reboot system now etc.
in dire need of assistance, can't get out of CWM recovery and when trying to adb the Prime now has an error exclamation mark on it. I have CWM 5.8.1.8

Did you make the backup in 5.8.1.8 or did you make it back in the old 5.5.0.4 version? If you made it back then, then you will not be able to restore boot as that version did not back it up in the first place.
If however you made the backup with your current version of CWM, then I am at a bit of a loss. I have had no issue whatsoever restoring any and/or all of my backups.
When you say that when trying to use ADB the Prime now has an error exclamation mark, please elaborate as to where you are seeing this exclamation mark. Is it in the terminal/command prompt?
I made the backup in the old 5.5.0.4 version. I'm using naked drivers which fixed the exclamation mark in pc's device manager however still can't push anything to Prime as adb reports "device not found"
fixed

He said in the post above yours that it was fixed. He should probably add that to the Thread title and also detail how he fixed it for other folks who find themselves in a similar situation.

OK, we need to do a couple of things here. Number one can your computer see your device with ADB? If you are unfamiliar with using ADB read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427008 and then come back here.
If your comp can see your device, we can push a new ROM to your sdcard by making sure you have the ROM in your ADB directory on the computer, and then in a terminal/command prompt you will need to type "adb push *ROM.ZIP* /sdcard" replacing *ROM.ZIP* with the actual name of the ROM (also omit the *s) This will take a while but have patience and eventually you will have a message telling you that it completed successfully.
Now we need to get you a new CWM image onto your Prime. There are 2 methods you could use both detailed in my thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576937
If you've followed all of this so far, then give yourself a pat on the back, you are no longer the noob that you were when you set out on this quest. We're almost done.
Reboot into CWM the usual way and wipe all partitions. Flash your ROM and it should flash everything including boot.
After verifying that you can get into a working OS, reboot into recovery and make a new backup immediately.
I wish you luck my friend.

I am ready to break something!!!
OK, after spending over a day reading and trying different things to no avail, my brain is a jumbled mess
i have a 16gb NT it was updated to the 1.4.3 when i started. I rooted it using indirect/brianf21 sd card method. everything worked fine for the little bit that i messed with it in this state. i then moved on to Veronica's CM7beta_ribbon_ICS rom for the most part everything was working. I installed a few apps from the market and on a reboot i got stuck in a bootloop. powered off, bootloop again. so i booted into CWM and tried reflashing the ROM only to be met with the 'please restart you device' screen. its all downhill from there. i can currently boot into CWM internally and have tried many different methods. so right now i dont get the 'restart' screen as it just goes into CWM. I have never worked with ABD but have been fighting drivers trying to get my nook to show up and having no luck so that i might try something there. i am new to rooting on the NT but have rooted and flashed different roms to my phone so i feel i have a basic concept. i dont know if im having so much of an issue cuz of the 1.4.3 or what **sigh**
I am now defeated and am in need of some help!!! haha! if anyone has anything to offer i would be so very thankful!

in order to get drivers working while in recocery mode you need to find the product id of the nook while its in cwm. in windows you need to go to device manager and check to see if your nook shows up in "other devices". then right click and go to properties and go to the tab that relates to hardware and find the neccessary info.
after that you should see two lines. ypu need to copy those two to the android_win.inf and modify the lines in there with notepad or something.
then try installing drivers and it shouls pick it up

yea that inf file is the one you need to modify. but you already have adb composite interface... so that means drivers are installed.

try looking in thr general section for these drivers I was talking about.

no errors booting into cwm internal and never had a problem when booting into it from an sd card. i flashed it internally hoping it would be a little easier seeing as how i only have one sd card but i am going to go get another today just to work through this.
nook started on 1.4.3 i rooted it using brianf23 and indirects sd card method. market and everything worked great. so i flashed Veronica's CM7beta_ribbon_ICS rom. everything for the most part was working, tho i did notice that some menu items would not open for me but they were noting i really needed to mess with at the time. so i installed a few apps and was done for the day. turned it on the next day and got stuck in a bootloop, so powered off and rebooted but got the same bootloop. booted into recovery did the standard dalvik cache ect and reflashed the rom, hoping this might fix the loop. upon rebooting is when i got stuck at the 'please reboot your device' screen. i have tried several methods of just flashing to stock ect, formatted my sd correctly and made sure it was active to try and flash back to stock that way but my nook will not boot from sd. so 12+ hours later i hung my head and asked for help lol! thanks to you i am able to start ADB no clue what to do but hey....step in the right direction!
Happy Dance
i got it working back to stock!! thank you so much for getting me going with ADB, without your help i would have stayed lost. i used kring789's ADB instructions and *poof* it rebooted to stock :good::good: thanks again for your help!

I think, without root, you can't view /data, but you can try.
If you can, the sms should be located in this .xml: er /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
Then backup it via adb, reflash your rom and replace the file with the backuped one.
If you can't access /data, maybe you can root/flash cwm to your phone too, if it's bootloped? (Phone specific, so I don't know.)
Good luck.

Connect your phone to your computer, start adb shell and type in su and then cd data
If you can view the directory by typing in ls you should be able, to copy the .xml to your computer.

Yes, the drivers could be the problem or maybe (but I don't hope so) the phone isn't recognizable in this mode via adb.
If you're using Windows, go to the device manager and check, if there's a android thing with a exclamation, then refresh the driver of this, if it's possible. Simply via right click etc. (Of course, if the device is connected.)
And have you tried this here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15585507&postcount=2
btw: Your phone seems to don't boot up since a few days, do you don't need it? Another idea is, maybe you can backup all your files via fastboot/download mode or something else, but you'll have to post this question in the device specifically forum, because it's different on phones.
Okay, one more time good luck.

yes, in the device manager there is an android thing with a yellow exclamation. i clicked on refresh the driver and i get the window asking me where i want to get the driver from. since i have the driver in an Sd card, i´ll try that tomorrow.
well, i do need the phone, but now im using my old one. until i can finally fix this issue.
What did you mean with the Fastboot mode? when im in the boot menu, i can select Fastboot, but it wont help much, because it will just start the booting again (bootloop). but i dont know if this is what you meant with fastboot.
thanks

Okay, but you can also let Windows automaticly search the internet for the drivers.
About fastboot, I don't know if you can backup files with this. (Normally you can use this to flash boot.img etc.) And I don't know, how it works on your device, so ask in your device forum.

Hello,
I'm a moron and accidentally formatted my SD card, now I can enter bootloader and recovery, but have no ROM's to flash. I can access ADB but when I search devices, it gives me a serial number type of value, then shows "recovery" next to it. I don't think it's actually seeing my device, therefore, I cannot send ROM's through ADB push command.
My question is, can anyone direct me to where I can find the correct drivers in order for ADB to see my device? Or is there any easier way of getting a ROM onto my SD card so I can flash a ROM?
Thank you all!

Try in adb in recovery
push locationofblah/blah.zip sdcard/downloads
Also what recovery ate you using and was the rom 4.1 or 4.2 since that determines whether you need to push to sdcard or sdcard/0/downloads.

Recovery is TWRP 4.1 I believe. I was using 4.2 previously (CM 10.1 Nightly) and was attempting to flash Gapps when I made my moronic decision. I'll attempt to push to sdcard/0/downloads this time - don't think I've tried that.

So I clearly screwed something up. Was running Viper 2.0.3 but went to reset/wipe and think i accidnetly formatted the sdcard then system also in CWM. Now i can't get anything to boot. I can get into CWM but am struggling to figure out how to flash something so a ROM will load. I'm clearly a newby with this. Pretty sure I have adb setup right,as it apprears to recognize the device with adb devices, but this was my first foray into adb so i'm struggling with this. Any help from the community would be more than appreciated, as I'm trying to set this up for my mother's first smart phone.

ok, i was messing with that... so "adb sideload ViperDNA_2.0.3.zip" where the viper zip is in the adb folder? just tried that and is says it * can not read ViperDNA_2.0.3.zip * ?? I need to reflash stock ROM, however I made the dumb mistake of accidentally formatting everything prior to flashing the new ROM. So I have no OS and no way of mounting the sdcard to ADB push the ROM from my computer instead. I've heard CWM (my recovery) has native support for ADB, but I'm pretty inexperienced). Can anybody point me in the right direction? Sorry if this is a repost, none of the threads I've tried have worried for me thus far.

i think it can help you

This is actually exactly what I need, however I can't even complete the first step by putting the files on the internal storage, because it cannot be accessed via CWM as I don't currently have an OS.

as for my understanding you don't need nothing to run the RUU
i think it is reinstalling all partitions from scratch
You can use adb push from both twrp and cwm... But yeah for the ruu you don't need to put anything on your phone.

Also if you are going to do the ruu, keep in mind that it flashes the radio as well. So if you are on a later radio you will need to flash that one

First, don't panic.
Download the ROM you want onto your computer, put it in the same directory as your ADB/SDK tools.
Then, on your phone, press and hold power and volume until it reboots into bootloader.
Press volume down to highlight recovery and then press power to boot into recovery.
Once in recovery you can use ADB Sideload to load ROM to phone from computer.
Enjoy...

Try installing PDAnet on your computer.
You don't really need the tether app part of the install, but it doesn't hurt.
The main thing you are after, is the drivers it will install.
Run the installer and follow the prompts on your monitor.
That should get the device recognized, assuming you have adb/fastboot set up properly.
Your going to laugh but install pdanet and it will reinstall adb. I don't like cwm I'd advise u gonwith twrp unless ur going to use cm 11

Hello. A real big thank you for you. You gave me a big hope by the two words "Dont Panic". Your advice was a huge hint on how to get back my HTC One. I researched on ADB Sideload and within One Hour I got back my phone to normal. Thank You. You are God!
I downloaded a custom ROM and did the adb sideload. It worked. If computer doesnt recognise your device in recovery, try plugging it into other usb ports on your computer.
