You can use WontanServer to unlock your carrier for €15. It is very trust worthy so no need to worry. Usually, unlocking your phone manually might lead to bricking the phone

you can also use omnius it is also €15 or fastgsm (don't know the price and they have videos showing you what to do on youtube) and if you know what you are doing it is pretty hard to brick the phone.

Hi, thanks for telling me about WotanServer. Could please tell me how to do it, if it's not too much trouble? I downloaded the tool, bought the credit for it. Now it says to connect TP to GND?
Oh, and my phone is the ST15i.

Connect test point to ground. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=FgYAZoqsk9E#t=64s
This video shows to get the sticker away and which points to connect. A paper clip will work fine, make sure you connect the correct ones.
The application there is another one, but test point is the same. Phone has 2 grounds, so it doesn't matter which one you use. Use, which one you can.

[Q] How to use x10i with no sim

Hi Guys,
My x10i was giving me pig of problems and my carrier gave me a new phone (not a new x10i though ) but now that I have this, would like to play with it a bit more install some roms upgrade to gingerbread (when I can). But primary issue right now after restored to factory settings on the device is can't get access to my wifi network.
As this is the only method will have for internet connection its useless without. So my question is..... do I need a working sim (have few blanks) to get this to work with wifi (do not know why this would be but possibily the queing of network discovery).
Any help whit this would be greatly appreciated.
Try an app in the market called.... wosim

anyone have wosim so can load it via usb (if I can), if so can it be loaded somewhere so I can download it
Download it from here, and install Via Usb
http://www.appbrain.com/app/wosim/jp.siter.android.wosim
did this work in the end?
i realised you had no market connection but naturally thought youd just pull the apk of the net and drop it into you phone.
Dc
Got wosim, installed it and doesn't work >:¬{ thought the easiest at the end of the day was take out the sim from working phone, put in to x10i and install (thank you market for allowing remote install)
But would not work, phone is rooted so thats not an issue (hehehe or maybe it only works with non routed phones).
So now back to square one, if I put in a custom rom, or wait till the boys perfect Gingerbread on the device then maybe that will sort it out???
At a loss now as the device might as well be bricked, that or buy a scratch and sniff sim card maybe with data???
Tried this with a dummy carrier sim card in the hopes that this would work but no joy, looks like have to buy a sim to get this to connect. This is crazy.... should be a simple way grrrr
Just wondering does anyone have any advice on this have a phone that would like to use wifi only at the moment without the need for buying a new sim.
If I installed a custom rom would it help, and if so any advice on which one?
Well, i got it working on my X10i..
Im using the ROM (in my sig)
Follow these steps:
Insert your SIM
Download and install wosim from market
Turn on WiFi (if it wasn't already on)
Turn off your phone
Remove SIM
Turn on your phone
Connect to the WiFi you want to use (wifi is still on, cuz it was on when you turned off your phone)
It worked for me, can't see why it won't work for you
Thanks, tried that before without the rom and without been rooted, will try with it rooted and see does it make a difference, then if not will try rom'ing the device
nope did not work on standard rom - did not think so... off to install Cyanogen CM then thanks
Was saying to myself for months that would install a rom and kept on kicking it to touch cause of the "grief" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945264 it really can't be easier, now there is a few more bits I have to do, but there was no need for Wosim as there was wifi blade that did the job thanks again Pierre Duc if I could thank you again in here I would >:¬}

You should be able to restore with xRecovery to an earlier version but if you really can't your never really bricked..
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/updateservice?cc=gb&lc=en
SEUS will get you back to a stock 2.1update1 - from that Eclair you can Fastboot and get to any custom rom you like.
Regarding not having a sim, I live in Australia and the pre-paid sim's they sell at a funny stor here called K-Mart cost an amazing $2... sorry I'm not trying to be cheap or anything but they really are cheap! You don't even need to have credit on it..

[Q] xperia neo I need urgent help to undersand if it's new PLEASE!!

Hi to all!
I need some help for a urgent problem!!!!!
I bought 2 weeks ago a new xperia neo in a big chain store. I haven't rooted it, flashed,.. I haven't done nothing like this.
In this days I have tried to do the update at the firmware 0.62 but SEUS and Pc Companion says that I have a modified software and I can't update.
So I think they have sold me an used phone.
With the *#*#7378423#*#* code I have seen that it's write:
Rooting status:
Bootloader unlocked: Yes
So, i have understand that the bootloader is unlooked and the phone is surely used, it's right??
How can I demonstrate that the modifying has done before the date I have bought it?
There is a date of the flashing saved or an other way to demonstrate that the phone is used and it was modified before I bought it???
Please help me because I don't know what to do!!
Thanks.

do nothing and thank them they saved you hours of stress
thats great news why complain but if it breaks then your nacked because of warenty void
wasnt the box sealed? does the phone look new? (no scratched, finger prints etc.).
are you sure it says "Bootloader unlocked: Yes"? or is it "Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes"?
if it is the second, it only means the phone was not locked by an operator. mine has the same message and no problems updating with pc companion (went from .42 to .58).
if you want to know if it is rooted, try using an application from market that requires root (droid wall, proxy droid, root explorer etc.)

Well I'd not have paid for this phone, it's obviously used. Would you buy milk that some hairy fat guy opened, took a sip of and then sealed the package? Would you buy a phone for full price that some guy used and did who knows what? You'd really pay for used phone as much as for new phone? You'd really cheer for being cheated?
So for OP, you asked a fair question. The answer is, this phone is used and you're being robbed of your money, unless you paid noticeably less than for new Xperia neo. So do what you will, your money, your responsibility.
I would rather contact Sony Ericsson first and then the shop you got the phone from.
the seal would have to be on the box. you cant open the box until you cut the seal. mine was opened in front of me and the seller had some trouble cutting the seal.
i would guess somebody messed with its software (the company that imported it), but not used the phone per se. some smaller companies import locked phones and unlock them then sell as "unlocked" phone (usually at lower price than official retailers). they replace the original SE seal with their own seal.
if you payed less than usual price, i would say mess with the software yourself and make it suit your needs/wishes.
I'd not be so trusting, this phone could have been in use for a week. I've noticed some reseller shop employees having that mentality "I'll just use it for a week, as long as no one notices I am fine."
It could even be a developer phone, which you get for almost free.
How do you make the difference what is what with such a phone? What if sometime later you need to take it for guarantee repairs and Sony tells you "you messed the phone up, now you got to pay for services"
This "shut up and hope you're lucky" is just silly. It's cheating by a company, isn't that awful already?
Breaking a guarantee provided by company is your choice. It's your phone, your money. This guy didn't have a liberty to even make that choice. So...
Yes, I've paid like for a new one, for this I feel cheated.
So I don't know what to do, sure I'll go to talk with the vendor (that is a big chain, and for this I thought I could trust, but evidently I was wrong)
But at the moment I have no proof if they tell me that I flashed it...
For this I'm looking for everything that can proof that the flash was before the sold date.
Anyone know if it's possible explore the files on the phone memory to see the creation date??
Or other things like this?
and thanks to everyone for the help!!
P.S.: I've looked also for the deleted files on SD but unfortunely it seems new (or formatted very well)

Thanks for the great idea!!
I've tried with this but it doesn't shows the internal memory, only shows the SD memory, but I have also tried with "File Expert" and it shows me all the internal memory and there is the date of some files:
- some files are dated 01/jan/1970 "I think the ones of the xperia factory installation"
- some are dated with the date of today
- but there are also some files modified in september / october
now I hope the final question I have to ask you...
Which are the files/directory that you can modifying only flashing/rooting, and not in the normal use??
so they can't say me that they have only opened the phone but is a proof they have modyfied it!!!
If its really a big chain as you say, I doubt they will challenge you on it. People saying "It was like that when I got it" is something I doubt they hear a lot from people who just bought the phone, wanting it exchanged.
People who make warranty claims in such situations, I'm sure they've heard it plenty.
Basically the more time you wait, the more suspicious it will seem. Think about the scenario:
1. Someone buys a new phone.
2. Goes home, discovers its likely been used before.
3. Next days returns it, showing the bootloader was already unlocked.
The alternative explanation for the shop, is that you unlocked it yourself in the first day, and then immediately got cold feet about unlocking the BL and returned it. They are unlikely to push such an unlikely alternate theory.
I know it might not have been just a day, but you see my point: the shorter the time, the less likely you are to be challenged. A reputable shop in this situation will not doubt you (not likely, at the very least).
If they don't accept your story, say you'll to escalate it to a local authority or by contacting SE (e.g. if employees use the phones, the managers will know about this, and would fear it becoming public in an investigation by someone else; if it was unlocked by someone else, they risk exposing less-than-ideal distribution channels).
Also, ignore those who are saying you should be happy with an unlocked BL. The official BL unlock is so simple (which is what it is if SE rejected the device), you would never need someone to do it for you. If you wanted a secondhand preunlocked device, you should pay secondhand price.
Well if it was me I would be happy but where im from this just would not happen "i hope this is the case"anyway but like he said iff you don't return on day one more fool you moral of the story just flash what you want and move on

I hope!
I have talk with the shop and I returned the phone to the Sony reparation center and if they found I haven't modified the phone, the shop said will give me a new phone...
P.S.: I know the Unlock of bootloader is a good thing but maybe the phone was used in wrong ways and damaged in something! I don't know, and sure I haven't the guarantee.
So, if I want isn't too difficult unlock it, but before I have the full guarantee and I'm sure no one has used it.
if I wanted to buy a used phone at least I could save some money!!

[Q] Help unrooting?

Okay, I did some searching and I didn't really find what I needed in my circumstance. I've read the threads about unrooting my thunderbolt buy my situation is a bit more specific than the generic unrooting procedures that I've seen.
So, through some weird circumstances my thunerbolt's screen doesnt turn on anymore. It ended up being dropped about a foot and the screen just died on me. there is no physical damage to the phone (i.e. the screen isn't cracked or bleeding). I already talked to Verizon reps about it, and I might be able to turn it in for warranty replacement. (If not, I'll just have to use my upgrae ). but to turn it for warranty I will obviously have to remove root. I haven't flashed anything to my phone for about 3 or 4 months so I know I didn't kill the screen by messing something up.
Here's the catch:
-my screen is dead so i cant really see what im doing on the phone.
-for some reason my computer cant recognize my phone. it keeps telling me that "the USB evice has malfunctioned".
-my SD card still reads in my card reader on my PC.
So basically I don't really have any idea how i could possibly go about unrooting my phone. Any ideas or suggestion are welcome. Maybe a donation to the contributors that help me? If not I will sadly have to leave the realm of the thunderbolt and I will use my upgrade If needed. (I would much rather keep my Thunderbolt than have to upgrade to like the nexus or something...I dont like them....)
Thanks in advanced

Can't they like hook it up to their computer or something like that and find that the phone is rooted?
Maybe, but didn't you say your PC doesn't recognize phone anymore? From what I've read, don't quote me on this, Big Red does not really do an in depth check before sending out for repair. Check for root, sure they do but again no screen/power, who knows then. Repair people could prolly care less. Again, nothing in stone here, just stuff I picked reading here n there.

Yeah. I went into the store and they shipped me a new warranty replacement phone. Although they did this, I'm still a bit apprehensive about sending it back while it's still rooted. So my original request still stands: I would like to know of a possible way to unroot it.
Thanks

[Q] Hard bricked??? Impossible?

My brother went and flashed a custom international rom. He doesnt remember which one, not that I think it matters at this point. Ive flashed many roms, I've even bricked a few phones, but with alot of reading on the xda site, and all the help from dev's have always unbricked my phone. His samsung doesnt turn on, does not go into recovery or into download mode. Ive tried taking the battery out holding both + - vol then usb then battery. nothing. When plugged into usb without battery, light turns on, when plugged into comp , comp starts looking for a driver, so i dont think its complety bricked yet, but it comes back with this message QHSUSb_dload. Ive read up on other phones on this message, any help with how to solve this. thanks
First slap him for not reading and then go to the development section of your carrier and look for fix thread for your issue I know attention has none not sure about the other carriers.

If he's seeing QHSUSB DLOAD its hard bricked. From what I've seen looking into this, I believe some HTC's have been able to be recovered from this mode but its not possible for us w/o JTAG. Someone correct me if I'm wrong and shed some light on the subject if they have any. Very intrigued by this and think that somehow an unbrick could be done with this with the right tools/knowloedge

I looked at my the dev section there is no fix that I could find. So I posted the question in the proper samsung galaxy section. I dont believe there is a solution yet aside from sending it in. A few posts here and there touched base on it but I dont think anyone yet on here has eff'd there phones up to this point. Ive went through every samsung section to see if there were any similar post and nothing has really touched base, on it or ive triied it.

well ill have to find and reread the stuff i saw abt the htc's cuz if im not mistaken some were actually made unbrickable because of this. i was able to install drivers, and talk to the phone with a couple of things, including odin but it just hung as i expected it to. I believe this is the post your talking about. Anyways I just can't believe the broski actually bricked his phone, I trully thought it was damn near impossible. amazing
It is never impossible to brick a device. This is why one should know what they are doing before they do it. I mean really, he doesn't even know what rom he flashed? Flashing a device is not for everyone nor should everyone do it. If you don't understand what your doing then don't do it.

Well, the best thing to do would be to go to the sprint section and look at mskip's sticky with his toolkit, and load the qualcomm drivers. it's an ugly situation, but that's your best lead.

Ya I did that about 4 hours ago, in my devices and printers, in now says QHSUSB_DLOAD is working properly. Yet I cant get it to connect to the toolkit, to odin, I cant even find the phone with cmd. it makes a noise everytime you plug it in to the comp, well the comp does and it searches for drivers and installs them, they all installed correctly the first time aside from the one above that was fixed. Thanks though for the help, I really appreciate it.
If no other solutions work, a JTAG repair WILL unbrick your device. MobileTech Videos (www.mobiletechvideos.com) offers JTAG repair for the SGS3. I've used them to purchase a download mode jig and they have fast turn around times, great customer service, and excellent service. You really can't go wrong using them. Let us know how you hard bricked it so we can do that when we need to get our phone warranty replaced without customer service seeing the custom flashed counter!

Either this is your weak attempt at humour or you never read the entire thread, like I said in on the first page, He flashed a international rom. I dont need to recap the entire 2 pages, the fact that you posted that comment, like why would anyone want to brick their phone for warrenty if its working fine. just stupid. I appreciate your meaningless contribution to a site where some people try to learn a thing or 2. I would suggest you try taking the site more seriously. And if you cant, have some respect for the people that do. thanks again. take care

[Q] Carrier Unlocking for Pro

Hi so I browsed this forums and find all of this very confusing because some Posts and guides Work while others don't.
(I think that's because people are not Updating their post's)
I have a SE X10 mini PRO (U20i) [10w17] (SIM not CDMA) and I've successfully installed/done the following:
Rooted my phone
Super User app
BusyBox
Terminal app
Bootloer Unlocked
Xrecovery
1) I want to Carrier unlock my phone but I've stumbled upon some very deceiving programs and I suspect of the ones that are paid because I just think that it's all Bull****. Anyway I can't seem to find a good and SAFE(or at least reliable) way to do it, so I ask if anyone could point me to the right direction?
2) Do I need CWM?
3) Also I'm still not sure if I wan't to flash/Upgrade android but if I do is there any good guide? Any tips on how to do that?
Thanks in advance for your time,
D'Pepino
Please
Anyone? I really need the help, I need to change Carrier & Vodafone is requesting me 74€ to unlock it.... Yeah right.
I won't mind making a guide afterwards...
Thanks once again,
D'Pepino

You'll have to pay to carrier-unlock your phone, period. With carriers it is usually free after the initial contract period (because after that period you've paid back the subsidy on the phone), but since vodafone is charging you, there is no free way for you to do it.
If you don't unlock it using an Emma/imei-code from Vodafone, be very careful, because you've unlocked your bootloader and the carrier-unlock may disable your radio-capabilities completely (ie, you won't even be able to make phonecalls with it).
