hi, let me cut to the chase and tell you my story,
i had a vibrant running bionix 1.3.1, and i flashed cm7 on it, after it kept on a bootloop i decided to flash back to stock but i couldn't get into download mode,
i build myself a jig and with it got to download mode
and flashed jfd, the flashing was successful (it said pass) after about half an hour.
and from when it finished the phone wont respond to anything, neither the screen nor the keys will power on.
i thought is was hard bricked so i used my j-tag (yes, i do have one) to resurrect it successfully, but the phone remains in the same condition.
nothing will get it to respond (not even the jig).
the jig still works with another vibrant i have.
i have no idea what to do now, how do i fix this?
Sounds like short/mb issue... if jtag wont ressurect, the issue is bigger than that, ie youre ****ed

I just flashed the Frankin Final rom on my vibrant and all was going well until I rebooted it and now the damn thing seems to be in a boot loop of some sort, but this is different than all others I have seen cause it goes to the samsung screen like normal and then it goes to a totally different screen that is only half size and is jumbled up and not a damn thing is readable. When I plug in my USB to the computer not only is it seen by the computer but it goes to the battery icon and then back to that screwed up - half sized screen. Please someone help.
Go back into recovery and reflash the rom you had installed previously. Or do a nand backup. You did back it all up before you flashed v4 as you should have, right?
I do have it backed up from v3 but it wont even get recognized by adb nor odin. Its the strangest friggin boot loop I have ever seen. When the vibrant screen goes blank then the strange unreadable screen comes on for about 2 seconds and then the vibrant screen comes on and thats over and over. I do have a hardware locked phone so I guess I will have to screw with it when I get home. I did have it in download mode but now I can't even get it to that. Is that USB that came with the phone the only usb that can be used when getting into download mode as I had no troubles at home but I am using my USB from my nexus one at work and its all screwed up.
Did you mean DON'T have a hardware locked vibrant?
I got it about a 2 months ago so I don't know if its locked or not.
Heres what happened in detail.
I rebooted via Rom Manager into the stock recovery.
I installed packages as I have the clockworkmod recovery as update.zip in my 14G sd
I backed up my current Frankin ver3 rom
I erased all userdata and such like I should when flashing a new rom.
I installed the Frankin Final Update
I rebooted the phone like normal and the BAM.
A never ending boot loop that wont even get recognized by my computer.
I cant even plug it into charge as it won't stop bootlooping. the
battery charging icon comes up but then it goes to that funky ass
screen and back to the charging icon. when I unplug the charger it
switches to the Vibrant screen and then the messed up screen. I
really think its bricked as its gotta be the boot image that is
screwed up.
I am very sorry if I am wasting your time on this as I do know how to
properly flash a rom on a phone but this phone is not like my G1 nor
my Nexus. Its about as flaky as a phone can get in my opinion and had
I known it was this flaky I never wouldve gotten the damn thing. I
guess I am going to Tmobile and tellin them the OTA update did this as
there is no way in hell to tell. Not even the splash screen comes up.
Its really bricked.
I just wanted to say that this website and you all developers are the BEST people I have ever followed. This is the very first post I have made and I really do think I f--ked big time. No matter, what you all have done for the G1 and Nexus blows my mind. I never owned a iphone and never will and I think I might say the same about this vibrant. Getting the Nexus bricked is nearly impossible but this Vibrant is to damn confusing and with the lag fixes and crap that I am leary about goin to the store and replacing mine with a new one. Wish me luck.
You may want to try loading Eugene's Froyo Rom that does not brick. Once that is done, try and install Frankin Twiz.
I tried and when the computer won't even read the connection all is bricked. good news though, I went to the tmobile store last night and showed the guy what happened after a OTA Update. he was totally understanding about it. He said it was the white screen of death and that I will have another shipped out the following day. Thanks again for all your help and especially the moderator for putting up with my crap. You all are the bomb-diggity.
I always just boot into recovery and flash say Vibrant7 that always seems to work for me. From there I flash whatever other rom I want.
Recovery meaning
Hold down your Vol + and -
Push Power.
Actually I get scared that I might screw things up by entering recovery through clockwork ( laugh at that now huh) so I always went to the stock recovery and updated my packages with the clockwork recovery file that was named update.zip. I think I had a issue with my phone from the get go as it never would enter download mode unless I was connected to only my samsung charger and no others. I tell ya it was a strange phone and to top it all of the tmobile dude showed me a g2 they had in stock. Nice phone I tell ya but it ain't no Nexus one. Thanks again for all your help guys. Keep the little green dude alive.
i had my phone rooted with Super Clean 2.8 and tried to flash the stock EB01 Odin from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977493
the phone took a very long time to go through the steps of Odin and got stock at recovery.bin for over an hour then it "failed" now the phone will not turn on or charge or even go into download mode
not sure how to get the phone into download mode manually sorry i always use the power menu built into Super Clean
is my phone bricked?
please help
Nah, you should be able to retry.
1. Take your battery out.
2. Hold down "Volume down" while plugging the USB cable into your phone (and the computer of course).
3. Retry the Odin package. It shouldn't take more than 10 or so minutes (from what I've heard, mine have never taken longer than about 3.
if that doesnt work you may need a jig its not hard to make one or you can buy online just search in the forums here for jig it should come up
i just recovered from a soft brick via home made jig telus fascinate same as vibrant (U.S.)
thank for the help
thanks for the help but my phone will not boot in to download mode i have tried time and time again and nothing comes up on the screen
i may just take the phone to Verizon after work today i have the insurance so they should replace it for free
attempt to bring up download mode, then check odin to see if a yellow light shows up. Sometimes the download mode logo can disappear, however the phone is still able to flash.
Good luck.
went to the Verizon store they are sending me a replacement phone for free
it always helps to have the extended warranty
and i have all my apps back up through titanium backup so it should not take long to get it all up and running again
1st time i ever bricked a phone in 3 years of running custom roms
thanks for the help guys
I think you had an hardware failure. Not that I've read ever thread on every board about the Fascinate, or that I've only been reading for two months, but I do read multiple boards daily and this would be the first hard brick I've read about.
Glad the insurance got you a new phone.
I have my vibrant for a year now and installed Eugene's Ginger Clone with no problems for I think 6months now... but then suddenly my phone hanged so I rebooted it then got stucked at Vibrant Samsung screen.. I decided to Odin back to STOCK all is good I can hear the T-Mobile chime at boot but my screen is still stuck at the Vibrant Samsung Mode, before i Odined I managed to run clockworkmod did a restore back from stock same thing happened stuck at Vibrant screen. By the way I dropped my phone about 8 months ago and had cracks on screen but it is still functions like new.
Please help me even if I normal reboot my phone I can still hear the Tmobile chime but still stuck at Vibrant Samsung text and still lights up the buttons when I tap into it..
Your Help would be much appreciated.
-Edit-
I have Odined back stock like 20 times still the same STUCK on BOOT SCREEN and ODINED also using EUGENES FROYO DOesNT BRICK like 10 times but vibrates 3 times every few seconds... PLS HELP ME....
is the screen all black, but the haptic keys are lighting up?
No the screen isnt black, its like im stuck on Vibrant Samsung boot but i can hear the Tmobile chime. when i left it for about 5hours the battery is completely drained.
what seems to be the problem?
This happened to me a while back. Senior developers called this a "soft brick". To fix, you need to flash (via ODIN) with Eugene's Froyo ROM (no brick) and then flash a stock vibrant rom. Sorry that I can't post a link to that froyo rom, but just google it. Hope this helps.
I followed your advice man and odined Eugenes Froyo doesnt brick but when the phone restarted it I got stucked this time the Galaxy S Logo and the phone vibrates every few seconds i dont know why is this happening any help from you guys is much appreciated.
Im trying to wipe/data factory reset but I cant, i just can navigate using up/down volume buttons but can not press OK or Enter
For the no brick...
You need to read up on it, but you flash it in Odin, check to not reboot, then you flash stock jfd in Odin over it.
It's been a long time for me, so be sure and watch a video on YouTube, or read a guide first.
Short and sweet, your phone will be fine, you aren't bricked for good.
Sent using the XDA app.
what I did is odin'd to Froyo doesnt brick then odin'd again to stock 2.1 what else am I missing? i read a lot of tutorials including yours, on how to get back to stock but same thing happens.. still stuck!
What do you mean by not check reboot sir? Is it on Froyo dsnt brick? If thats the case what I did is.
Odin'd Froyo doesnt brick uncheck all except PIT and PDA onced finished at download mode screen I pressed keys to get to recovery mode, Odin detected my phone then flash to stock jfd over it. still to no avail. stuck at boot screen.
I did this because I cannot boot up Eugenes (no brick) for some reason it stuck on boot screen and then vibrates randomly, never boots up completely

thanks
WEIRD!
I think my phone is really messed up.. I installed any ROM i could imagine both CWM mode and ODIN but still cant get pass thru bootscreen,
on stock JFD I can hear Tmobile sound but on any 2.2 based ROMS it only vibrates a few seconds then reboots the phone and vibrates again...
I had no problems going Download mode or recovery mode works fine.
Only problem is I cant get pass thru bootscreen on any ROMS i had flashed.
Help!
I should have a heimdall one-click prepared tonight which will be a totally sane flash and tell you if anything went wrong.
thanks Adam, hoping to see that thing wakes up our phone
You may want to try this flash eugene's froyo that doesn't brick, then flash the stock, then flash any gingerbread rom together with the gingerbread bootloader..it works for me..hope it works 4u..i've flash the simply honey rom..u may try this =)
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
still no luck.. i think this is hardware problem already because not even a single rom booted on me past the Vibrant screen.
Try my thread, if it doesnt work then its a hardware error.

OP -
If you are up to it, ship it to me and I will see if I can fix it. I don't steal phones.
Hi guys im not quite new when it comes to android.
last night i was trying to upgrade and flash a CWM on my friends vibrant whe it stopped. i turned off the phone when tries to turn it back on.... the phone quite turns hot and not like my phone when im flashing it.
i got all the files download and read all of the instructions before starting ofcourse.
first the phone doesnt turn on, then i manage to enter the DOWNLOAD MODE again but somehow the Laptop doesnt detect and gives a yellow punctuation mark on the device. i tried to install and flash the rom but it doesnt continue. i tried putting or plugging it to a diff port but still no luck.
can someone help me and answer this question? is this thing hard bricked = im screwed
any help would be gladly appreciated. thanks again guys in advance
Try a different USB cable as well as a different USB port.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30831184
Read that post, then, read the thread from page 1, just so I don't feel like I've had the same conversation twice in 1 day.
Shouldn't take long its only a few posts. See if this applies to your situation.
thanks boss but i tried the cable with my galaxy mini and it worked when i tried to flash and went back to stock rom. changed the port as well but still no luck....
the phone as well doesnt turn on like the way of a soft brick. a picture of a phone wanted to be connected to a pc, black screen it is though but the phone goes to DOWNLOAD MODE
Try reinstalling drivers from AIO toolbox. Open Odin as administrator. What does Odin say exactly? Is there a yellow box, if so what does it say in it?
i tried reinstalling the drivers i have downloaded but still no luck, odin detects the phone and when it doesnt i re-install the driver so the computer would detect the COM port of the phone. the odin doesnt push through and no BLUE bar on the phone it self. such as the indicator for the flashing. i tried as well running odin as the administrator but still no luck. so do you think that this could be a hard brick, i dont think so cause i can still enter the DOWNLOAD mode of it. the phone turns hot when im on the download mode. could this be a hardware problem.
No its probably not a brick. I think its a communication issue. I would still think its possible to fix it. As far as it getting hot, not sure but the fact that it gets to download mode is a beacon of hope.
I've got to go to bed, will be back tomorrow to check on this.
yeah i hope thesame way too man. thanks for the reply.... time for you to take some rest. thanks again. i'll post the reply if ever the phone gets fixed
thanks for everything man, the phone now is resurrected after JTAGGING. but i know that those technicians who charged me 1000php just did the flashing on ODIN. i know the thing i've done wrong why it didnt work the first time. now it is running up again. the firmware that was flashed was for TELUS. it now shows T959D. i'll follow the guide fully on flashing and upgrading this thing
I had the same problem as you this morning. I tried driver, after driver, after driver and nothing worked. Eventually I gave in and used my sister's laptop and that did the trick. Mabuti ayos na ang cp mo. Ingat.
Hey guys
1) Restarted my phone today using CM10.1 from a very recent nightly (within the past week).
2) On restart, phone froze and got kernel panic.
3) Restarted into CWM and tried to do a restore to an earlier backup I had made.
4) Half-way through the restore, I got ANOTHER kernel panic (never had that before)...
5) Only things I could do with the phone after that was enter download mode...nothing else...couldn't enter recovery mode anymore.
6) Went into download mode and flashed this CWM-Recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693) and followed the instructions to the letter.
7) Odin 3.07 hung on NAND Write Start
8) Tried using Odin 1.3, and it seemed to flash correctly. It says completed no errors.
Phone will now not even start and is completely unresponsive...pressing any combination of buttons will not start the phone, and the phone is not recognized in Odin anymore...did I just hard brick it? Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Elliott
Service centre. Although if you can have someone who does JTAG's have a look at it to determine whether it can be JTAG'd without you giving them any money up front (I.E you only pay them if it can be JTAG'd), try that first.
Thanks that's what I thought.
Also, try a jig if you can get one. In all likelihood won't work, but stranger things have happened & you have nothing to lose.
Yeah thanks that's what I plan on doing. Any idea what I did wrong, though? I don't want it to happen again if I get it working with a jig.
Impossible to say. Not sure why you flashed that nondescript kernel/recovery in that situation tho given it probably wouldn't have worked even if the flash had been successful (You would probably have ended up with bootloop given recovery was obviously 'broken'). I would have flashed stock with Odin (And that's certainly what I tell people in your situation on here to do because it normally works).
But flashing recovery rather than a stock rom probably didn't break your phone, put it that way, so you didn't do anything 'wrong' per se. Just remember if you get into a similar situation again, go back to stock via Odin & start again (re-root your phone/restore a backup, flash your custom rom/kernel again, etc).
If the jig works (and don't get your hopes up or anything, we're talking a 1 in 10,000 chance, and that's probably being generous), flash stock with Odin (you wont have much choice).
Well...brought it to a JTAG specialist today and he couldn't fix it either...says it's very rare and he's had 5 out of 80 S2's like this happen without being able to fix them...
Bummer. Motherboard replacement in that case. If the phone's under warranty, take it to a service centre & say as little as possible. You might blag it for a warranty fix. No warranty ? You can still have a new motherboard put in by a service centre (more expensive option usually), or you can source a 2nd hand MB from a 'donor' phone (one with a broken screen that's otherwise OK, etc) & either swap it in yourself or pay a local mobile repair shop to do it (usually cheaper option).
@ OP By following what you flashed I noticed the date, we're talking about a 2 years old thread, a lot have changed since.
Not sure that was what bricked your device but I get that panic mode.
The other thing that it comes to mind is nand corruption, which has been quite common these days with people running custom.
I'm with bungle there, the best recovery package is going back to stock and start fresh.
I, on the other hand, wouldn't accept the situation you are on, I would spend a whole week trying to get that phone to boot again, whether a second opinion on a jtag, a new jig, another battery or any other thread on here at xda.
If the device gets hot near the rear camera and it won't even charge nor get warm around that area dismiss what I just said and proceed with the mobo replacement bungle suggested.
And of course, if you did something else to your device and didn't share it please, come clean so others don't freak out by reading this.
Sent from...this is not even my S2
Hey
Nothing else was done to the device...just what I stated exactly.
I caved today and bought a BNIB S3 because I couldn't go without a phone anymore...
Thanks for the help, guys
