Hello guys need help - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Tmo Vibrant that has digitizer broke, the guy that can fix it says i need both screen n digitizer because of amoled screen that comes together....is that right?
And anyone knows where i can get this part i need or where can i send to get it fix for a good price?!
Thank you.

Screen and oled digitizer are glued together so probably have to get both unless you have a heat gun.
Probably eBay but vibrant are going for pretty cheap nowadays anyways so might not be worth it.

[Q] Where to get replacement glass?

My phone was dropped earlier however only the glass is cracked, not the actual screen. Everywhere I look, they only sell them as a pair, but I remember awhile back seeing just the glass for a reasonable price.
Where can I get it now?
Thanks!
Here's a glass replacement for $12.80 (Free Shipping)... CLICK HERE
Instructional Video:
Note: This video uses a Fascinate, but the steps taken should be similar to replacing the Vibrant's screen.
Thanks so much!
No problem. Hope you get your phone back up & running.
How come people charge like $100 to replace...?

Because that 'replacement glass' is a scam not a digitizer. It will not fit properly and will not function as a digitizer. If you look at the video, the removed digitizer has some wires on it. That allows communication w/ the motherboard. That glass is just glass. Even if you could remove the broken touch panel (digitizer) and fit the glass to the phone you would have no ability to use it.
The digitizers for all amoled Galaxy S phones are not available without the attached display panel. The replacement screen costs $95 just for the part, then add the labor and that is why it is so expensive.
If you notice, even the people who made the video (while showing the removal) don't sell the digitizer alone. Pro shops replace the whole assembly. If you can get the job done for $100 including labor, take it. It's a great price.

I just need the glass.
I've seen some other videos and I got it down. All you do is take the glass and remove it from the amoled screen then replace. I don't need a digitizer.

So wait, you can't just replace the glass? In the video they remove the glass from the digitizer. Right?

Wow, I had no idea. I've never taken apart my phone before, but when I came across the glass replacement on Ebay it looked very legit. 99.4% positive feedback, 34 sold, and 7 day money back... But I guess looks can be deceiving. I figured the wire was hidden from view in the picture. I apologize for posting a link to a scam...

Not a problem. Unless you have done any repair work on these things you would not know. Most non oled display phones have the ability to replace touch screen and lcd displays individually. Unfortunately, not ours.
This scam works because most people that buy the glass never really get around to installing it, or if they do and it does not work they think they did something wrong. I have repaired a bunch of these things even if you could remove the digitizer sucessfully as shown in the DirectFix video, you can't get a replacement part. Also, this operation needs to be done in a clean room. Any dust on the amoled panel will bruise it when paired with the touch panel so a successful repair is very unlikely outside of the factory. That is why the repair parts are sold together as a unit.

You can't 'just replace the glass'. The digitizer and front glass are one and the same. They are inseparable.

What you saw was the digitizer/glass being removed from the AMOLED panel. So, as stated before, no, you can't just replace the glass.
FML. -_-

Call me crazy but if people are buying these and not complaining they don't work. Then either they don't want to look stupid by saying they got scammed or they did replace the glass and is possible. I say it's possible but very hard since the thickness is about that of a piece of paper. I saw this on wiki for the superamoled little confusing.
Super Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode or Super AMOLED is a display technology (variant from AMOLED) mainly for use in mobile devices such as mobile phones (see the list below for examples). One of the main differences from other display technologies is that the layer that detects touch is integrated into the screen rather than being overlaid on top.

Anyone? Is that saying the display (lcd screen) has the digitizer built in the screen itself?

They are integral but can be separated.... just not rejoined and still work. Notice that the places that show the removal videos DO NOT sell a replacement part, just the entire screen. Most of the glass that is sold as a replacement is purchased from overseas. It costs more to return it than what was spent to purchase it. They are ALL worthless. If there are not wires coming from it it can't be a digitizer. If you remove your broken digitizer and are lucky enough not to destroy you amoled panel you still have nothing to replace it with. Most if not all people who buy these things never get around to attempting the replacement, or if they do, they destroy the panel in the process so they never get the chance see that the glass does not work. They think they screwed it up instead of being ripped off. That's why you don't see negative feedback about those things.... It's the perfect (almost) scam.
If you want to replace your glass buy the entire assembly ($95.00) on eBay and at the end of the process you will have a great phone again instead of a pile of junk.... not to mention feeling like you screwed up your phone.
Well what I'm going to do is wait for my brother to go to Verizon then take his vibrant and use his screen and mess with mine. Though I need to buff out the scratches. If by some miracle I do make it work I will post here. I hate when people find a way to fix something that some of us are trying to figure out and never report back how or just say "I fixed it was simple." WTF WAS IT! had to deal with that with my plasma which I finally did find one thread and fix it.

Digitizer and glass are factory glued together under high temperatures impossible to separate.
Just buy the whole assembly for $90 ( i've seen them for $79 once) with free shipping and tools on ebay. I always send offers using ebay "ask a question" and sometimes they give me few $$ off. Then it is a piece of cake since you can brake off the glass and remove the whole assembly that way.
My personal Vibrant is made of all kinds of used Vibrants and screen assembly comes from Galaxy S 4G which is good replacement too if you also want to get front facing camera.
technically can be done
while i don't recommend anyone else try, I was able to separate the glass from the screen. the glass was cracked but the screen still worked so i bought just the glass thinking it would be an easy replacement. so when i came to find them glued together i used my hot-air gun to melt the glue and remove to broken pieces of glass one by one, very carefully. when putting it back together with the new glass i couldn't re-glue it but the back tray holds the screen in place well enough. there was only one side effect that i have noticed so far. the glass is a little loose since not held to the screen, and i did burn the screen a little bit with the heat gun and it now has minor discoloration. but it is possible with enough patience and a steady hand.

SGSII screen price

Any idea on how much would it cost to replace my screen? I don't have anything to prove warranty so that means I'll have to pay for it. If someone wants to know why I want to replace my screen it is because it has suffered (humidity?) damage. About 2*2cm area has changed its color to grey/red.

You are looking at a price £100 ($130) or above
Sgs1 replacement displays cost around 150$. So I'm guessing it might be around 170$

in italy touch for sgs1 200 € in date 15/07/2011 in samsung center
Watch some videos on youtube first, before you order a screen.
Theres a difference between just the screen or the whole front housing.
If you only get a replacement screen(ebay, 100-150€), you may need a heatgun.
I dont think its very easy to replace the screen on your own, though i never did it.
Its much easier to get the whole front housing(not shure, but maybe 150-200€), where the screen is already glued into. Although its more expensive, it might be worth the price.
Hi,
If you want to do it yourself, I would recomend buying the whole front, concidering the price difference, safe yourself the hassle and replace it all, its just some screws!
Good luck
In Indonesia Samsung Center I changed it for around 90USD..
in indonesia Rp.1.100.000 or its +- $130
click thanks button if i help you
I thought the glass front is just stuck down with strong double sided tape.
Seen a video somewhere where it can be prised off, which could get access to dry it out. May need some new tape to stick it back down though.
by the way an idea how much the mother board ?

Broken screen

Hello all
So my mum just dropped her phone and the wonderful gorilla glass didnt do its job and now has a big crack in it.
The phone still fully works its seems to like there is an outer screen?
Any ideas on how to fix i looked on ebay but looks very pricey? Sonething about a digitizer?
Picture attached.
Any help or adivce on where to look would be most appreciated.
Kindest regards
Superliam

You are basically screwed. Mine had shattered and I ordered a new piece of glass for the front. The digitizer is stuck to the glass pretty damn good, I ended up having to order a new frame unit for 250.
I would just put a new screen protector on it and leave it.
You will only be looking at an expensive fix, screens for this phone cost a lot, wether you fix it your self or send it to Sammy and this is not covered by warranty.
The digitizer is the component that recognises touches and translates them to digital signals the phone understands.
I'm not sure about this phone but on my old one it was on top of the screen which I would also expect here.
If I was you I would send the phone to Sammy but I couldn't give you a price.

The screen and touch digitiser are bonded together like on iPhone and there's no third party screens yet so you either pay $250 or do without a screen.

Screen Replacement

I bought a screen replacement for my crack screen off ebay for a great deal:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/360478218769?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Yes, it came from china and I hope this screen will work when I replace my crack LCD screen on my phone. How did the screen cracked? Well, I have a desk chair with a roller on the bottom. I kind of roll over it :/ I feel so ashamed hurting my precious phone lol.
Did you get it yet? I've been monitoring this post, since I also have a cracked screen and don't want to spend $200+ dollars on replacing or insurance. Please keep me updated on this. Thanx in advance.

don't want to burst your bubble, but that is the digitizer only. i think its really really hard to separate the two from each other. that is why they are so expensive to buy. but hey, might as well try if it is already broke. i understand the lcd is fine btw. i replace screens pretty often and with Samsung, you usually have to buy them fused already. guess it couldn't hurt to try though. good luck to ya, you may need a heat gun and thin wire. keep us updated when it comes in. I'm sure we all would like to know how it goes. good luck
i looked at the listing again, and i don't see any digitizer ribbon. so it looks like no digitizer is even on it. just the lens, but maybe you knew that and this is what you're looking for?

Yes only for the screen len, not digitizer. I figure I bought it then trying to find the link to replace the screen without digitizer. All of them mention it hard to accomplish. I should had bought the screen with digitizer, but hey I will see how it goes...
Sent from my SGH-I717 using xda premium
just my opinion is to find complete digitizer and lcd fused together, or else you are going to have a bad time. they are very expensive, but it shouldnt be too hard to do as long as you take your time. if you found a digitizer+lens, with out the lcd, it will be really difficult. heat gunning then getting something super thin to slide down to cut between your good lcd and cracked digitizer without scratching the lcd. ive done it on an iphone 4 and the lcd was scratched from it, but it did still work and i didnt break the lcd. if you do lens only, im not sure if you will be able to get the actual digitizer off of the original lens without tearing it an then placing it on the new lens with out bubbling up or anything. i would hate for you to be out a phone for a while. good luck to you sir

[Q] Replacement Part Help

As you can see, my screen is not functioning properly. I kinda closed the car door on the phone and it dropped on the floor. The outside screen is not cracked. However, the inside seems like it is.
I will try to fix it but not sure what I need to buy. I think I only need to buy a new LCD but I could be wrong. Can someone help with this?
