[Q] Text message search.. - Nokia Lumia 800

Ive only had my Lumia for a couple of days now, so I'm pretty sure that I missed something, but how do you search all text messages for a particular word or find all texts that you sent to a particular number that's not in your address book?
I've looked and looked but I can't see a way. Must be getting old...

You don't.

What!
Do you mean that there's no way to do it at all?
It seems such a basic thing to ask - every phone I've had for the past 10 years has allowed me to do this!!
Is there an app in the marketplace that will allow me to do this, or maybe another SMS client?

seems there is no way to search sms,and I haven;t found such a app could do this
BTW: every phone you used for the past 10 years could do this??
I wander what phone did you used in the last 10 years....

LOL, just the usual bunch of iPhones, Androids, Nokia E61, Blackberry 9700, XDA, XDA2, and a few others!!
I can't believe they left something so basic out. Still, its a brilliant phone so I guess I can forgive one thing.. Still, it makes life a little difficult for me as I use the feature all the time!

well,i don;t think E61 has this function .......
but as far as i know, you can't do it on wp7 at this moment/.//

Same here, they could make use of search button everywhere. Like within sms I click search button it searches sms, same with contacts, emails etc.. Now it goes only to Bing search that I never use.

Google Calendar not syncing older events

Hi.
I just noticed that all my calendar events prior to april 12th and right back to june 2011 when I first got the phone have been deleted from my phone, but all other events onwards from april 12th are still on the phone. A sigh of relief when I noticed they're all still there online in google calendar, ie, all events from june 2011 to now. Not sure what happened, but, I did reinstall calendar sync today (before I'd noticed this) because it was partially deleted due to a virus I had a week ago. I say partially because it was still syncing but it took longer and I could tell something wasn't right. It had been effectively uninstalled in control panel, so that's why I reinstalled it.
So I connected my phone, manually synced google calendar sync app in my taskbar, and although it's updating new events from my phone to google calendar online, it's not transferring the old events from april 12th and before that date from google calendar online back to my phone.
I created a test event today directly in google calendar to see if it would transfer to my phone with sync, it did. So what's up with it not transferring my older events from google back to my phone before april 12th?
Bump
Bump. Let's see how many times I can bump this before someone replies or I get told off.
It's a known issue that Google is doing nothing to fix.
Here's a workaround though.
If that doesn't work, here's another one.
Both found with Google.
(Also, see rule #5. Bumping is seen as pretty annoying around here, and doesn't actually incite people to help you)

Well, yes and no on your last point. It had gone to page 3 first attempt, then was going to page 2 second attempt, so I didn't have much to lose really did I, and 3rd time worked like a charm.

5. Post a message only once.
As a large forum we don't need unnecessary clutter, You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time, it might take a while before you receive an answer.

I'm NOT a moderator. I'm just trying to give you some friendly guidance on forum etiquette. It's not like I reported your post or anything. And in fact, I actually helped you, in spite of my being annoyed by the bumps as I'm sure many others who knew the answer were, and decided not to answer.
If everyone followed the rules, we wouldn't need moderators.

I thanked you for your advice and I'll thank you again. But I don't give a flying **** if you don't like my bumps. If I hadn't bumped my thread (after several hours of it receiving no replies and disappearing into the void), there would have been NO replies, making being a posting member here pretty much useless. Get it? These forums are massive with ludicrous amounts of posts every second pushing others off the page very fast, never to be seen again, so bumps are NEEDED to get noticed. Get off your high horse.
Ah forget it. I'm clearly wasting my time.

Clearly. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that in quite a few of your posts you talk down to members, pretty much patronising them.
"in spite of my being annoyed by the bumps as I'm sure many others who knew the answer were"
Lol, seriously, and my last word on this, drop the wannabe moderator act. You're obviously very knowledgeable on phones and have made many posts. And I'm grateful you linked me to a couple of potentially helpful threads which (contrary to what you think) would not have happened if I hadn't bumped my thread. But, I've been here longer than you and long enough to have seen many threads of mine disappear without any response when there's been no bumping. Noone was going to answer my thread without it being bumped, trust me on that, it had already gone to page 3, so my bumping was not the catalyst for why you think I got no answers. Editing my post would have made no difference, it wouldn't bring it back to page 1, and neither was there any need for me to clarify an already crystal clear description of the issue in my OP. I also help people where I can on other forums where I'm knowledgeable in a field just like you, and I leave the lectures on forum etiquette to those in charge.

Probably because I'm sick of people who don't take the 5 seconds it takes to type their problem into google, and incessantly bump their posts to keep it at the top of the forum. But you're right. I should take a step back and not let such things bother me anymore.

While I see how those options would do it, I chose to just purchase Calengoo... I works great and I'm lazy so I don't want to have to do the export/import thing or flip back and forth changing the date. (I did notice that if it's a recurring appointment on the calendar those show beyond the 30 day limit.)
hopefully this is something Google will change at some point. I just don't understand their reasoning for not offering us the choice on how much calendar data to sync.
Just thought I'd add another solution to this problem.
Found it here:
https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/calendar/BG6UUCLcQZ4/J7Zc-l4X_9gJ
Steps:
Go to Google Calendar in your browser (DESKTOP)
Go to Settings (top right cog)
Calendars
Export calendars
Extract the .ics file from the saved zip file
Import calendar (select the .ics file)
That's it, it shouldn't create duplicates, but the calendar on your phone should now show the old events.
Simple but effective

Good job. Much thanks! This one did it!
Didn't work for me. Not sure why these work for some and not for others (like me)... could it really be because of ICS vs JB etc?
Anyway, I'm on a HTC Sensation, JB 4.2.2, and it would be very helpful if I could get important business schedule information from 6 months ago to 8 years ago from google online calendar into my phone, and I can't, and that's just retarded. So if anyone has suggestions on ways to do it, your input would be helpful. Thanks.
-Ryan.
update: well, it took a while but it actually worked... Yesterday, I exported, imported, synced, waited, synced again, and still nothing nothing. Then I posted to this thread. Then today, I read on the calengoo site that they recommend this 'trick' also, so I figured goddaammmit why didn't it work for me? So I looked at my calendar, and lo & behold... data back as far as i care to look! HOORAY!

[Q] imessage-like app for android?

I did do some research but all imessage topics I found were really old.
So I have a couple of questions. Since my phone died last week, I had to resort back to my iphone 4 (I went from iphone to LGOG). So I was wondering if there an app that will allow me to text an iphone/osx user such as imessage does where they can receive on both devices and then respond to either one. Preferably, it would be my end doing all the work (android) and they (iphone/mac) don't have to do anything, but if there is a little work involved that would be okay. They aren't very technical so don't want to confuse them with complex instructions, just magic. I never realized people actually text through their computer, but since I went back to the iphone I've gotten a lot more responses because people are too lazy to go grab their phone if they leave it across the room.
Also, is there an app that will allow group chats on android, again without needing anyone else to install anything. Whenever I receive a group text on my android it would be separate conversations to each person so i would have to respond individually to each person whereas with the iphone it's just one message and sent to everyone and it's all streamlined very nicely.
If I didn't explain anything well enough just let me know and i'll try to better explain. Also I will be rooting and unlocking my phone, and I'm good for paid or free ways of getting things done.
Thanks in advance for all your help.

Dude! You gotta understand the competition between iOS and android? How could android have such An app? I wish they do too but they don't. You can try other cool apps like viber, whatapp etc

If I remember right, I think Handcent has an experimental group message feature. Could be long past the experimental phase, could have been a different app. As for texting to a Mac, I can't think of anything

I know there is competition. But I don't like being tied to iOS as much as I don't like being tied to android or some other OS. I am a believer in that all the OSes should just work together somehow (perhaps with some fairy dust?) and just be amazing like that. I get that won't ever happen, but sadly I have 0 coding abilities. I was really hoping someone would have figured out a way to defeat the imessage authentications or whatever is stopping android from joining in the fun.

Okay thanks, I'll have to look into handcent. I'm surprised it wasn't a native feature. Is it that uncommon to want a group chat to be it's own thread? And yea...I figured texting to a mac would be a long shot, but thinking about it, I figure something like skype or googlechat would work so might just have to go that route.
Yeah I'm sure any IM client would work just fine for what you need, I didn't even think about that one.

Don't you think if android should develop something like that,The hating Apple might end up sueing it? I think they will,Android knows it boundries that's why,and I think its still fun with android even without any app like that.

I use Facebook messenger and Skype to reach people on either computers or phones. Don't have much use for a group messaging feature, so I don't know what's out there on that front.

A few questions about the VS985 - contacts editing, call blocking and others

I searched the web (and the thread suggestions are not similar) and found very little on these matters, so...
Some background first -
I have now owned the G3 for 6 days. This is my first android os phone and first "smart" phone I have owned. The closest thing I've owned to this was an apple iPod touch. I'm not a big apple fan, (its the only device I own sporting their logo) but I have to say after spending some time with this G3 for the last few days, I am beginning to appreciate some of intuitive elements of their design. I didn't consider the apple phone due to their "proprietary" connects, no readily available battery removal, no flash and no microSD. These are all features I feel really should be very "basic" at this stage of tech. However, after spending a few days with this unit, I'm not thinking these phones are as "smart" as the marketing selling them. Perhaps I'm wrong. Please feel free to offer a different viewpoint!
Now, don't get me wrong, while the layout is fairly decent, the camera is nice, the phone (telephony) seems to work fairly well so far, and the screen sure looks pretty - even if a bit huge to get a comfortable grip on - but customization (at least in stock form) seems somewhat limited. This phone seems setup to waste time not to conserve it.
2 days ago I wrote my first post on this forum - stating that basically, from my perspective of a short time with this phone and furthering research - this thing needs rooted just to customize it to the level I think might lead to a productive mini-computer and that seems like a whole lot of time expenditure for a device of which the battery only lasts a short workday and one that you have to keep protected from pretty much anything (bumps, water, etc.).
So here are some questions that I have not found answers to:
1. Why does this phone disallow me to edit a contact?
considerations: Some contacts have the "edit pencil" available and some do not. I have some contacts synced from facebook which I cannot edit (no pencil icon appears), yet my wife who has recently obtained a samsung note 4 & she has the edit pencil on all of her contacts, even the facebook synced ones. Not only do I want to sync the contacts from facebook (and other places), but I want to remove the facebook app and then keep the contacts on the phone. Is there a way to do this without adding yet another app?
2. Getting rid of "Rachel from card services" - yeah tell me you people haven't dealt with this lady burning up your phone - chief call spammer of USA... No offense to Rachel, but I'm tired of answering her calls. Why is it that allegedly on other non-Verizon versions of the G3 the user is able to block spammer's calls (call blocking), yet this one doesn't? Where is this feature of this phone? Am I missing something here, because I have looked all over and I have not found this feature on the phone.
Multiple cases of lockup - meaning I tap on the screen on an icon designed to make something happen and yet nothing happens. No response. Zero. This seems to be intermittent, but it happens. Is this a typical experience with these phones?
I was sold on the G3 because I noted & appreciated some of the features that came with it - but now I find myself seriously considering returning this phone - but then if I did, what would I even replace it with?

Facebook mobile number substitution?

So my ex girlfriend is convinced that I have somehow hacked her phone. (I haven't.) So much so that she drowned an HTC phone and got herself a new Droid Maxx. However she is still having the issues that led her on this paranoid delusion. I am looking for someone to help me explain to her she has not been hacked, or if I am wrong to correct me.
The story starts with her saying that her Facebook app on the phone is acting funny. Yeah the nebulous adjective, funny. When I asked her what does she mean by that she has various performance complaints as well as the app crashing at inopportune times. Setting aside such shaky evidence of somebody hacking a phone (because as you know, one thing a hacker does not want to do is let their victim know that they are inside their phone and thus shutting down the exploits they have already put in place) I am now seeking anyone who knows more about this than I do to help explain what she is seeing so that she stops accusing me of something I am not doing. To make matters worse ex-girlfriend decides to start monkeying around with things that she doesn't understand inside her phone settings and discovers something that I finally find to be odd but can't really explain away.
She went into her old phone (an HTC M8 I believe) account synch settings and sees the Facebook mobile number displayed as not her own. In fact it's not even a proper number. Here is a screen shot from the new phone (my memory says that a very similar result was on her old phone):
(Annnd Dammit since I am a fairly fresh user I cannot post a pic link, if you are trying to help me PM me and I think it'll let me pate you the link)
(Or I can try to put 5 spaces in the link to make it non working and if you have the patience copy it and take the spaces out to go to the screen shot)
http: // imgur.com / Mfba WdE
The number listed is not even a complete number and does not come up in any useful way in Google searches. This odd number was on her previous HTC phone before she sent it for drowning and then her new Droid Maxx phone is showing the same thing.
As you know it's useless to go and ask Facebook for any sort of support seeing as how we are not their customers, we are actually the commodity they sell to advertisers so they could give a rat's ass about assisting their commodity. Remember when you don't pay for something then what is being sold is you.
I must add that she also has confirmed to me that when she signs in to Facebook in a browser on a PC she does not see her number replaced inside her profile. It seems really very odd to me how her mobile app still knows how to link with her regular profile when the number is not matching. I have an HTC One M9 and I do not have the same behavior as she reports. According to her she can still see her news feeds and friend posts and all that Facebook goodness. She says she has Avast running on the phone, and she does not install any software not obtained through the Google Play Store.
My research came up with not a very convincing theory. What I found was a dated forum post regarding a Facebook feature that had been discontinued. The feature being cited was like an address book feature that sought to synch the phone's address book and the Facebook Friends list and address book together. But the discussion did not quite match what I was observing so it is unconvincing that I found what the cause was.
Can anyone follow this story at all? Has her phone been hacked? Can anyone tell me a better place to post a question regarding this?

Google still has official support forums, why the heck is there not one for Android??

https://productforums.google.com
They have sections for pretty much every Google product. There's even one for Android Wear.....but nothing for regular old Android. WHY??? Is there somewhere else i can go?
I would love to try and get an answer from an official rep from Google as to why the ****ing autocorrect on my last three phones never recognizes words that i put into the dictionary and continues to underline them in red.
For Android we have XDA
