UCLC5_modem.zip How do I flash it without CWM? I am running the leaked ICS and like it other than that the wifi draining my battery. I am hoping the UCLC5_modem.zip will fix that. I know there is a deoxed rooted version but I don't want run a custom rom on this phone yet. I know there is a counter that gets updated and I just don't feel like messing with it.
I recall on some phones you could just rename the file update.zip, stick it in a folder and reboot the phone to install it. Can I not do that to get the modem file on the phone?
thanks

Why the hell not? You're running a LEAK, and a bad one at that. A custom rom would be worlds better...

Ahhh, there it is. You know you don't have to mess with that at all, right? Just follow the steps here to return to rooted stock. Then you can use Mobile Odin to flash a kernel that has CWM. Then you can use CWM to flash whatever you want; CWM does not touch the flash counter.

Yeah, I want to leave all messing around to the other devices I have to play with. I have a couple OG droids and two ICS touchpads. On this phone I want to leave it stock, or using official builds. If something goes wrong with the phone there is a chance I can't uninstall the software before sending it in.
Maybe when it is out of warranty I'll mess with it. I know I am still at risk even with the leak but I am hoping the OTA will be out soon. I just want to easily update the modem. I guess I'll just leave the wifi off until the OTA
thanks

No it's not - you flashed a LEAK - that voids your warranty just as much as a custom firmware will.

You can't just say, "nah" and expect it to not be true. The facts:
Fact #1: Flashing anything other than an official update from your carrier voids your warranty.
Fact #2: You flashed a leaked firmware, i.e. something that was not an official update from your carrier.
Fact #3: Your warranty is void.

I would say get insurance on the phone in case it ****s up, you can say you lost it and theyll send you a new one. ATT though is a rip because the dedeuctable is 200. Verizon though I hear is way more reasonable. Dont worry about Insurance fraud if you get the old one working again. Whos to say you didnt findly find it under the couch........I soft bricked a Samsung infuse and got it back with Odin. By that time my new phone was already here.

We certainly are lucky Entropy is around, but...he said the same thing I did. You already voided your warranty.
One nice thing about our devices, though, is that you can always get them back to stock condition. Do that, and AT&T will never know; they'll honor your warranty just like you never touched it.
Here's the thing though: If you're going to be talking about flashing modems and using ICS, etc., you can't be worried about your warranty. If you are, there's no point in even reading this forum.
Ahhh XDA, always good for a laugh.
"I don't want to void my warranty by flashing unofficial software. I just want to improve the unofficial software I flashed."
Priceless.
And do you realize the irony of what you did? I see you are new here and don't recognize Entropy. You "nah"d him in this thread, then a few posts later say how lucky the community is he's here by referencing another post of his in a different thread.

WiFi was killing my battery. I was hoping it was fixed in the ICS leak. The ICS leak doesn't bump your counter and still says Samsung official. When you check it. I would have just waited for the ICS OTA but I like to use my wifi.
It is a bit upsetting I have to mess with a 6 month old phone because of issues. In the almost two years of messing with custom roms there is always some kind of bug or problem. I was hoping I could stay away from ****ing with a phone for awhile.
I don't mind running nightlys on my HP touchpad but my fairly new phone is a real let down. I was about to hand the phone over to my kid but I can't since it has issues. She is sporting the custom rom OG droid and hates all the little issues. Oh well, I guess I won't be upgrading to a Note anytime soon.

Ok, I was thinking about maybe using that one click root app I found on the market but i need to know how safe is it? and is there a fully awesomely working version of Froyo out there or even gingerbread I can use and if so how do I install it?
And when the official froyo update comes out will my phone still be able to revive the over the air update?
Using the OCLF/Root was completely safe and easy, for me at least.
No issues at all doing it, it went very smooth with no issues at all.
Yes -- you can still receive OTA updates once you've rooted.

def no gingerbread out there for you to run

Safe as in what? Secure wise or bricking your device? The Vibrant is easy to root but secure wise you need to be careful since your device will be "open" to any program getting root access.
I see people use the click app to root their phones. Check it out on YouTube that's where I found the info. Personally I am not going to root my cuz I don't want to deal with the headaches. Yes I have root one android phone before & was successful. I enjoy putting different roms but when I flash CM6 one his first updates on that then later on couldn't change the rom. The reason cuz I had a low memory I was told on the phone internally. So I am taking no chances with phone.

Too much work. Easier to add ps.
I be posting this from my wicked awesome vibrant!
Before Rooting....
1) learn how to use the keyboard
2) find out what Froyo and the consequences of installing a beta are
3) No, if you install Froyo probably you won't be able to get the OTA update when available and, you may not be able to roll down if you want to.
I would stay out of it if i was you
not worthy to just root to flash the leaked Froyo... You only get the 'skin' of Froyo.. there is no JIT and GPS is not working
I would not root, because judging by you, you dont know much about android.
Few devices have froyo,
No devices have gingerbread.
If you think gingerbread, or even froyo is out then chances are you dont know how to use root features.

I understand what your saying, and believe me I know a lot about android and actually a little bit about rooting but I am super paranoid about bricking my phone for two reasons:
I love my phone.
I had to pay full price for it.
What I don't understand that much is about different roms and whatnot. As for the Gingerbread thing I was kidding, but I was serious about the Froyo thing...but after reading this thread i have decided that if I do ever root with the one click root app it will only me to install simple things like lag fix, adfree, etc. Thank you for your help.
To do it again, I would not root mine. It has been less stable since I rooted it. Crashes to a black screen that says "user fault not kernel panic" and "upload mode". This is using a simple one-click root. So I advise against it.
What you'd find, should a problem occur, is that there is no going back. Folks recommend install this patch and that patch, and deeper down the rabbit hole (further away from stock) you go.

you know the one-click root that comes with the one-click lag fix? The unroot part didn't work.
This was my experience hacking on the g1 too... sometimes things worked, sometimes they didn't. When they don't, it's a lousy trip.
I just get sick of messing with it sometimes, and just want it to work.
I have an unlocked SGH-I777 (but not rooted) and i have been trying to update my phone since last week, from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6, but that seems to be impossible. I tried the most common way (settings-> software update) and it says The current software is up to date. I tried using Kies and it says that I have the most recent firmware.
Is there a way to download the update and install it manually, w/o rooting my phone?

RE: [RoM]UCLD3 Official ATT "Leak" !CLOSED!
I just wanted to say TY to the developers of this ROM, especially task. I got burned, but I knew what I was getting into. I'm within 30 days, plus have 1 yr warranty, plus insurance. I got my new phone and I'm happy.
Thanks again guys for trying to bring us something new and exciting.
Just a question: were all of the AT&T leaks affected by this, or just UCLD3?
The general consensus is that LD3 was the culprit, however it is possible that all leaks are affected.
The culprit was the CWM injected kernel in the version task posted. All other leaks and the one-click version of LD3 were unaffected.

And you know this how? Without facts, this statement is useless bro. One thing I do know is the bricking only happened to a few people. Far less then people who didn't have issues. Just like entropy said, without reproducing it would be hard to figure out. But either way. Leaks are just that. Leaks. They are pretty much worthless considering everything else we already have. So really, to figure out exactly the cause we would have to go through the process of brick, then replace/fix the device and so on.

I have flashed this rom many times and no issues with my phone. Although I have been lurking in these threads as a NOOB, it is apparent to me that you have to:
follow instructions in OP before flashing
Read all the of the thread before flashing
Make sure that you have the entire zip file downloaded before flashing...
Not sure what is the problem, but it is not anything with zip I down loaded.. I did both. The other files such as Shomans or AOKP as they are better than any stock rom...
Thank you for all that you do...

No - even after the re-repack I believe a few more bricks happened.
Looks like the UCLD3 leak (and maybe all leaks) have the same bug that is in all of the Epic 4G Touch leaks and all Chinese Galaxy Note ICS leaks, along with the SHW-M250S/K/L official ICS releases and source code - it's a nasty one that can cause severe hardbricks if you wipe in recovery.
When I say "severe hardbrick" - I mean that the eMMC chip actually gets damaged to the point where not even JTAG recovery services like mobiletechvideos.com are able to recover the device.
It's looking like UCLD3 has the same issues that SiyahKernel 3.1rc6 had (which was rebased on SHW-M250L sources).
This is probably like some of the xbox360 and ps3 bricking updates -- an update changes something in the way the device operates. In those update -- spinning the media faster or turning on gpu acceleration of the UI, etc.. some devices can't take the change in the baseline for which they were certified and die.
Perhaps they changed voltages, media parameters, etc -- without source, we won't know for sure.

There are still plenty of great TW GB ROMs around. Unfortunately, people who want a stable, safe stock ICS ROM will have to wait until Samsung gives you one. Without the developers we wouldn't have ICS on our phone AT ALL, so complaining is without merit (unless you are complaining to Samsung).

Naw I want a Samsung stock rom built for the ATT version also
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA Premium App
I have been using the HTC evo on sprint for 2 years. My girlfriend saw the note and fell in love, and I was intrigued by the huge screen, since I use my phone more as a smartphone and less as an actual phone. So we went to ATT and bought a couple and are giving them a try, but haven't cancelled our sprint yet. She seems to like it a lot, haven't heard a complaint yet.
Out of the box, I was impressed with the screen for sure. Didn't liek the way the default browser handled zooming/word wrap on a lot of web pages, but a new browser fixed that. Battery life was good, but not great compared to what I was used to on some roms on my rooted evo. I am trying to learn to use the S-pen more. I haven't been blown away by the Note, but my Evo sure does seem small now.
I have been itching to root this thing and start installing some roms, but obviously wanted to wait until I was sure I was keeping it.
A couple questions, if I stay with ATT, I will be porting my sprint number. Will rooting the phone or installing a rom cause any issues with the porting of my old number? The Evo was super easy to root and flash roms, and also super easy to unroot in case it ever needed service, which it hasn't yet. Is it just as easy to root/unroot the Note? More concerned about the unrootingt, I am sure I can figure out the root process from the stickies, but I didn't see anything for unrooting, maybe I missed it. Just want to make sure I can get the phone serviced if I need to.
Thanks!

Hey so, I recently switched from Verizon to AT&T. I kept my old number and rooted my note within three days of getting it. Haven't experienced any issues whatsoever and I think you will be blown away once you get hip deep into the Roms that are available. The only problem that I have come across is that I can't stop flashing new roms now.
But, it is super easy, really great guides on here and on Youtube if you're the visual type. I don't think you'll regret it. My only advice is just reading through the threads (or at least the last few pages) before flashing just to see the experiences of others and what to expect before you give it the go ahead. The rooting guides have guides toward the bottom on how to unroot and that's on youtube too.
Hope that helped.

Hey so, I recently switched from Verizon to AT&T. I kept my old number and rooted my note within three days of getting it. I had rooted my evo and flashed so many roms I can't even count. So it's not that rooting/flashing scares me, and I am sure I can figure it out with the guides just fine. I was more worried about voiding my warranty or whatever. More so with this phone then with my evo for some reason.
There is an Odin image somewhere on these forums that will get you back to stock. It's pretty easy to do.
So far, this phone is the best phone I've ever had.

yes you can restore your phone to stock if needed (warranty is only reason I can think of). You can do it w/your PC and the stock ROM file as you can see in one of the forum stickies, I think the development forum.
Just get on one of the latest ICS leaked ROMS...I highly recommend the OnlyOne ROM/MOD since it is the based on the latest leak with a few key mods/etc added. Runs gREAt. And has some Samsung Galaxy III add-ons ported (i.e. new Touchwiz UI, S Note, S Voice, tethering). The OTHER ROMS are also solid and have more theming and custom stuff.
Get a PC then use it to Root, install CWM and then install your ROM of choice.
I like staying on Stock stuff and tried to on my Note for a few weeks but there were too many benefits to rooting, etc.
Have fun. Again...the ICS Leaked ROMS are sweet.
The Note, and most Samsung phones for that matter, are among the hardest to hard brick and some of the easiest to return back to stock as a result. Samsung phones are also very easy to root. The Note is no exception. As others have stated, we have an ODIN package to bring you back from everything but a hard brick. And you're not likely to do that so long as you stay on these forums and not the n7000's. That's pretty much the only way people have bricked their devices beyond saving. And even then you can send a hard brick in to some site and save it with JTAG repairs for $50, which is much cheaper than a replacement phone.
Also, in addition to the stock ODIN package, we have a flash counter reset, do ATT will have no indication you ripped whatsoever. People have returned their Note with the flash counter tripped, and had no issues, but it doesn't hurt to be careful. By using the ODIN package and flash counter reset, your warranty is again valid, so you really have nothing to worry about.

Best thing I've done was root and flash this yesterday. The stock experience was driving me crazy (came from a flashed atrix). I say go for it and don't look back. This phone was pretty easy to root and flash.

Alright you all have convinced me. Off to read the root stickies/guide.
This is the method I want, correct? Looks like the other one isn't meant for custom roms, just to gain root access and leaves the flash counter at 0.

No need to worry about the flash counter. There's an easy method to reset it and go back completely stock.
My suggestion: flash cwm, root, flash one of the awesome ics roms, and worry about going back to stock later. Totally worth it.
Flapjaxx'a ROM is what I'm currently running and it's up there for the smoothest and best Android experience I've seen through 3 Android phones and many other friends' phones. It's seriously like iOS/WP7 smooth for me. And great battery life. Wouldn't trade my Note for a damn thing. =].

Either is fine. I use non touch because it's what I used on my captivate and infuse and I'm used to it, it has never failed me. I've never used touch, but apparently it's just as stable. It's really a matter of preference add far as I'm concerned and whether you like using the volume and power buttons or your screen.

Holy crap this backup is taking a while. They never took this long on my evo. Maybe 2-3 minutes max. This one has been going for 5-10

Wasn't worried, just complaining, lol. I got the itch to flash and backing up is slowing me down, lol. It's done now, roms flashed, rebooting...

Mine easily took 10-15mins (or so it felt). Same thing for my Touchpad.

Stock gingerbread is leggy as hell. I put the OnlyOne ics rom on and it at least doubled the speed. Running launcher 7 also.

HYFR Only One. I was hoping the GSIII add ons would wow me more, but S-voice seems only ok. Haven't really messed with S-Note yet. But battery life seems amazing.
I suggest going with team perfections objection. Been running it since I rooted and romed her. Runs smooth and can easily get through the day with music running nonstop. Welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay.

Will we ever get a one click root for this device? That way we dont have to flash to root it like other devices?
Are you worried about flashing?
Dude, give the developers time this phone just came out.
Sent from my rooted galaxy note 2... U mad?
You may not have to always flash to root, but if the current root process is to hard for you, I'd say don't even root your phone. The only "hard" part about root is the image is huge and can take a while to download, extract, verify, and flash.

True! To me using odin is a one click method.
Sent from my rooted galaxy note 2... U mad?
^^^ exactly ... nothing to it at all.
This method is so easy, what more could you want? I agree if this is too complicated then leave your phone stock. The only issue here is no custom recovery which makes me think twice about what I'm doing bc no backup. It took me literally a total of 20 min to root and flash the Rom, including download time. Plus I've never used Odin, so it's already easy enough.
tappin from the note ll
Is there any estimate for when a custom recovery will be available?

First rule on the forums "don't ask of an eta of something that people are working on" lol but just give the developers time you guys are being way too impatient.

Im not really comfortable with flashing for one and two its much more time consuming than when Ive rooted in the past by just clicking and it running and rooting the device. I only asked the question if we were going to ever see it, not to rush anyone, but to see if it would happen since this way was already available. No disrespect was intended.

Considering that ODIN only requires one or two clicks.....it would be considered a Onish/Twoish click method. I've had HTC and Moto devices before, and I have to say that ODIN is actually VERY painless.

I agree, I have used Odin since my Droid Charge & I think of it as one click also.
