[Q] OPS file for Odin - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hi
Sorry, I posted 2 times, but anyone respond on other post
What exactly is OPS file used for Odin?
And, what this abbreviation mean?
PS: Sorry for my bad English

The .ops is a partitioning file used in Odin to ensure during an ODIN flash , the partitions stay correct and therefore minimizing the amount of errors
Defy-ing all limits.

[Q] Some Questions About Flashing and Firmware

I am sorry if my thread doesn't belong to this section. I have tried to search but I don't get satisfactory information. My questions are:
1. Which one from all files inside the firmware tar that contains the CSC part? Is it cache.img or hidden.img?
2. Do all CSC files reside in the /system/CSC folder?
3. I have the conclusion that the image/bin file inside the firmware will be used to wipe/format the corresponding partition i.e. factoryfs.img for /system partition, etc. Is that true?
4. Is it possible to just flash the PDA/Phone(Modem)/CSC part individually? If I am not mistaken, we can use Odin just to flash the kernel.
5. Is it possible just to create firmware tar file containing just one image to update specific partition? E.g. file containing just factoryfs.img
6. Beside the img file which must be in the compressed ext4 image, can we just use tar command to create the firmware for Odin?
7. Suppose I only have the PDA part of the firmware and use it to flash my SGS2, since the /system partition will be wipe out, does it mean I will loose/corrupt my CSC part?
Thanks in advance.

No some are in the root of the system folder namely . CSC files txt CSC Version txt and SW Configuration xml
4. Is it possible to just flash the PDA/Phone(Modem)/CSC part individually? If I am not mistaken, we can use Odin just to flash the kernel.
Yes Modem CSC and Kernel can be individual Odin flashes .
PDA also if its a three part firmware .

Thanks for your answer. I have managed to open the cache.img. My conclusion is that if I flash without the CSC part, I will loose some apps and APN seetings. But the system will still be usable. I only need to manually input the APN setting.

[Q] PIT Repartition vs EFS (nothing bricked just asking)

Hi!
I know that I'm asking about forbidden subjects but I have no intention of doing something stupid just want to understand some things about S2.
That's what I think I understand:
- PIT is a file that contains partition layout on our device, that partitions are later flashed with files from rom package (files are partition images in fact)
- Normally we do not need to re-partition because there is only one partition description available on S2 - so all ROM share it (also it's not recommented coz if sth goes wrong we have big problem - device without partitions)
- EFS is one of the partitions and it shouldn't be touched (contains IMEI etc)
Here is my question:
Some people flash ROM with PIT and repartition and still have working device - how is it possible ?? - re-partition should wipe everything including EFS.
EDIT:
One more thing - when exploring XXKP8 rom package from sammobile.com noticed that there is PIT file and some file named
I9100_EFS_I9100XXKP8_CL42141_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
that contains efs.img file I wonder what is this file for. Some generic EFS image ??
Regards
Slig
The pit is used for partition mapping, basically telling the program which block device is which partition. You dont need to use the pit as Odin can pull it from the phone, this also prevents people from using i9000 pits (sgs1, and yes this has happened)
Efs has both generic files and device specific files, I think.

Yeah I read about that epic failure. That is why I'm asking - want to know everything before doing anything.

The recommendation is not to flash PIT file or repartition unless you know what you are doing .
PIT does not wipe EFS .
Their is a PIT file description post on the forum .

Yes, I'm fully aware of that. I'm just the kind of person that like to know why so I decided to investigate this subject deeper. Another thing is that I'll probably try to use heimdall and that program requires better understanding than "use PDA field in Odin".
You can just flash a .pit file and check repartition. You just have to make sure your flash won't fail. If you have faulty drivers or a damaged usb cable, then it will brick your phone.
If you want to try it, make a flash without .pit and repartition and if it works you can use them. Its just something unexperienced users should not use.
Unless something changes, we don't need to repartition, (one case might be if android plus tw is bigger than 500 ish megs Samsung would need to make the system partition bigger) so we just don't need to use it, and making the risks sound worse it keeps newbies away.

Creating CSC tar files for mobile odin

Hi I've been tryin to learn how to create the proper CSC tar file for my region(Ecuador-southamerica)for use with mobile odin this is how far I can get so please anyone with spare time willing to help me help others will be appreciated
So this is with what my unlocked international SGS3 I9300 got shipped stock
PDA:I9300UBALE6
CP: I9300UBLE6
CSC : I9300UUBALE6
I found the correct stock firmware for my region Ecuador South America I9300UBALE6_I9300ECOALE4_ECO.zip (about 706 MB) i Download it extracted with winzip and got two files
1.I9300UBALE6_I9300UBLE6_I9300ECOALE4_HOME.tar.md5
2.SS_DL.dll
I then used 7z to extract the files from the .tar.md5 file and got a bunch of .img files and a .bin file
1.boot.img
2.cache.img
3.hidden.img
4.modem.bin
5.recovery.img
6.system.img
so the big question now was how can i create a .tar file for each one of this .img and.bin ..managed to use cygwin to create them ...but my question is...for the CSC.tar file I'm looking to create for mobile odin do I have to use the hidden.img and the cache.img files and make one single .tar.md5 with those two? Please correct me If I'm wrong ..for your info when I use this two for creating the CSC.tar.md5 I come up with a file of 151MB in size .. does that seems right?
The main idea Is to flash any custom Rom and be able to afterwards load the CSC .tar.md5 for my region
Thanx for your replies excuse my bad English

Did you figure this out? I was able to download the csc portion of my rom from androidfirmware.net.
Unfortunately, I did not solve me problem. I'm on 3 Ireland. My stock rom can breakdown the network information into two networks:
3 (3g)
3 (2g)
It then selects the best one based on signal.
Unfortunately, all custom roms just see two networks named as:
3
3
It doesn't switch back to 3g ever. It's a shame, I thought flashing the csc and modem from stock rom would fix this but it doesn't. I might have to always run stock firmware.

Flashable Zip to tar.md5

Hi.. Can somebody tell me if there is a way to convert flashable zip files to Odin tar.md5 files !!!!
I hav searched and read some related threads but none of them gave a conclusive answer for the question. Some explained how to convert .img files to tar files & some explained creating tar files by using 7zip (actually 7zip only create a file with .tar extension) but my question is how to convert zip files which don't have image files like for example if i wanted to flash some apps ported from other devices (camera, gallery, keyboard etc...) and i don't want to flash them through Recovery (I don't hav one) then HOW???
Technically speaking, you'd need to create an image of the partition containing content from your .zip folder (with proper permissions and stuff created by updater-script) and then you should pack it as system.img into .tar.md5 file.
The questions is WHY you want to do this, it's NOT common and there's absolutely no point in doing that.
Question is why no recovery

Well, consider installing a corresponding CWM :good:

I don't want to install a Recovery as it increases Binary count every time v boot the device. I personally don't like to increase my count. Every time i enter into Recovery to flash a zip file it will trigger the count. I know Triangle away can make the count zero but then i have to use it every time after using Recovery & I don't want to go through all that hassle.
Why i don't like an increase in count.... It's more like OCD
So, is there any easy n simple method to convert files !!! Am not much of a Android student. It's like am at Kindergarten level at Android University

Already done above.
Easier solution is mobile odin, although it can't flash all zips.

PIT File for XXU Firmware for G925F

Hi to all.
I would like to ask a few questions, that i haven't been able to find the answer to,
even after extensive search.
I have a G925F with the G925FXXS5EQI7 Firmware.
As I have seen at sammobile.com, the newest and more common Firmware updates come with XXU Firmwares.
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s6-edge/SM-G925F/
The attempts to install a XXU Firmware over the XXS have failed,
with the error in Odin which I assume is because of the wrong hidden partition size and/or PIT file.
The /proc/partitions file in the XXS firmware has this in the partition table:
259 1 204800 sda17
so I assume it's the 200M partition size, correct?
I have seen this pages regarding the PIT files.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...g925-pit-files-multi-thread-download-t3171636
https://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30136
The first one here at XDA has nothing but dead links,
while the second has every PIT file from the first one except the HIDDEN300M pit,
and a additional HIDDEN250M pit file not present in the first link.
So the questions I would like to ask are:
1. Could you please inform me on what is the correct PIT File to download,
in order to install the XXU Firmware? Any download link if possible?
2. I have read somewhere here in the forums that if I install the largest (so the HIDDEN250M, or 300M)
PIT file will allow me to install any firmware, but will eat away some MBs of storage, is that correct?
3. Should I install the PIT file alone, in the PIT options without any firmware, or along with a firmware?
4. Is data/cache wipe necessary, or could I just update from the XXS firmware without data loss?
5. With the correct (largest?) PIT file I will be able to install either XXU or XXS firmware, right?
I would really appreciate your input on this.
Thank you in advance.

Google. There are loads of links. Which pit you need?
It's quite easy.
Use samfirm tool in manual mode (enter which FW you want to have) and tick binary nature. It'll download the latest multi part factory image which contains the right pit file in the CSC part.
If odin detects it there it uses it.
