[Q] Cannot backup game data - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have used Titanium Backup and also the App-Manager plugin for ROM Toolkit (Both very good apps) but neither seem to backup game data for games such as Angry Birds Space. Meaning that when I flash a new ROM and I restore my apps with whatever application I used to back it up, that the data isnt restored. Its a bit annoying. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem, and if so, if they found a solution?
Cheers

Persistent Data - between Rom swaps

Scenario: Installed Vegan 5 on gtablet. Play angry Birds and get to level 20, input my location into Weatherbug, setup icons in launcher, configure wireless, write a short note in quickoffice and set up network share in Astro. Now, do a clockwork backup of the rom. I wish to now install TNT lite 4.4. Before installing a new rom you usually wipe partitons, etc. then install the rom. After the install I have to do all these things again, including starting over in Angry Birds! Especially annoying is having to set up the desktop again (after I re-install all the apps). What I would like to be able to do is use TNT-lite 4.4 today and tomorrow restore Vegan 5 and have all my user data and settings from today persist into the other rom. I would think settings are stored somewhere that could be preserved between rom installations. Can this be done?
Not going to happen.
You can use Titanium Backup Pro to backup your apps and data (don't backup system apps though) and restore them with your game progress, etc....
But you can't have persistent configuration/data between different ROM installs.

I was afraid that would be the answer. Going the Titanium Backup route - I'm looking at the backup/restore screen at the list of apps. You recommend not backing up system apps. Short of "just knowing" from experience, is there a way to identify system apps in the list? Clearly Angry Birds is not but what about email 2.2, download manager 2.2, etc. I'm pretty sure they are but is there a definite way to tell? Or, can I just backup the whole batch and then only restore things like Angry Birds to retain my game progress?
There are batch options in the Backup/Restore tab that give you a one click backup of what you are looking for.....
Hit the menu button when on the Backup/Restore tab in Titanium Backup and choose "Batch", then "Backup all User Apps" and this will be all the apps you have downloaded and their data (game progress, notes, etc..).
duplicate post....OOPS

I assume that I need to configure TB tl write to sdcard2 so it can be restored after a different r.o.m is installed? I'm unclear as to what gets wiped during the install/restore process.
/sdcard does not get wiped unless you repartition the device. You can also sync to dropbox in the paid version.

[Q] About Google Backup

Hi, I used to use (lol) Titanium backup for backing up
my applications with their data (for example, asphalt 6 with all
of my progress). But a friend told me that when i backup with DATA,
it causes bugs of Force close when you restore, and it asks for your permission to install, and its annoying with 200 apps...
So I searched on Google a bit, and saw that Google has application
data backup, automatically! But im still not sure, will it backup all of my data?
All of the games data (progress), launchers and so on? will it restore
the data right after reinstall?
If not, I'll be glad if someone can advice me about any other good backup program..
Thanks, and sorry for my bad English...
As far as I know google app backup just redownloads your apps (no data).
And why did you "lol" at Titanium backup, it is still by far the best way to back stuff up. If you get the payed pro version then you don't have to click install for all 200 apps. And as long as you don't restore conflicting system data you should be fine.
I lol cause I said used to use (Idk why, it makes my laugh xD)
and about the Google Backup, the automatic restore says:
When re installing an application, backed up settings and data will be restored.
And what restore should I use with titanium backup?
Any help? I just wanna switch roms!
Everything Smasher said. TB has only caused force closes on about 2 of my 183 apps, but I fixed those issues with ease. I don't know too much about Google backing up data because I thought they only restored the app only.
EDIT: Maybe you should Nandroid backup your current rom then try the Google way and let us all know how it works out. If it doesn't restore app data then go back tou your current rom and take the Titanium way.

i need help with backing up apps on S2

hi all i want to make a question but im not sure if this is the right place to post . i am using the d4 rom but its not working good as i expected the camera stops , cant open some apps , wifi sometimes doesnt work and a lot of other things . i have some apps like asphalt 6 nba jam and i want to back up them without loosing the data which means without losing the levels that i had unlocked . so please someone tell me how to do that ! thanks all .
try titanium backup from play store.
This will save your apps and their data. When you just need a few apps to be restored the free version will do for you. If you have a lot of apps think about the pro / donate version which can do batch restore.
donny
titanium works for me but i don kno abt ur levels ,iam not a gammer
Titanium backup should take backup of your game data (it does for my games), although some games might save their data on the SD-card.
I had problems with my camera on D4 v8.0, but it was solved by updating to the latest Siyah Kernel 3.1.2.
BTW:
Are you using Siyah Kernel RC6?
In that case, do NOT do a factory reset, it might brick your phone!
If rooted, try DataSync from google Play (free)
Install Titanium Backup from the Play Store and run a Batch App + Data Back up. After your flash re-install TB, and restore with a Batch Restore.
Use titanium backup,if you want to know how heres the link

[Q] Transferring apps to new phone?

Hi guys, I'm just asking about restoring data using My Backup Pro. Say I got a new phone, root it, install an app (e.g. Angry Birds) and restore the app data backed up with My Backup Pro, will the data backup regardless of the version of Angry Birds that was installed?
E.g. When I backed up the data on my current device Angry Birds was version 2.3.0, but when I try to restore that data to the Angry Birds on my other device where the version is 3.1.0, will the data still back up?
Btw, this topic has not yet been covered in another thread specific to X10 Mini.
Thanks,

It will put the data back regardless of version, it just restores the folder and it's contents (for example: /data/angrybirds/andwhateverisinhere). The only problem may be that the new version of angry birds uses a different format for storing it's progress, and can't read the data of the older version.
Hi SmG67,
Thanks for your reply. As this program appears to be able to transfer apps 'legitimately" http://www.wondershare.com/phone-transfer/ , does anybody know some suitable alternatives? I don't want to pay $39.95 for a program which I'm only going to use once or twice if I ever choose to switch phones.
Thanks,
DrShellgon :fingers-crossed:
The link you give looks like it promises more than it can deliver. It states that it can transfer apps from Android to iOS and Symbian for example and there is no way that the apps from Android are going to work on iOS.
If you stick with Android on your new device, then Titanium Backup might be a solution for you
Does Titanium Backup also backup market links as well? And would the apps restored on the new device show up on Google Play?
Thanks,

Plants vs Zombies backup

Is there any way to backup plants vs zombies(the first one, not the sequel)?
I tried with titanium backup and I manually backed up the folder com.popcap.pvz from both /data/data and /sdcard/Android/data.
With these methods the game crashes or asks me to create a new profile(which means it doesn't recognise the savegames).
Is there any way to securely back it up?
I'm on a nexus 7(2012), stock android 4.4.2
Sorry for old bump but I have this issue also, it is the only game that does not want to backup with error. I tried backing normally or installing the app and restoring the data but both still lead to fc. I flash alot so I cannot keep the progress for the game which is annoying...
