Is there any app or trick to delete these files easily? And of course, the big question: how could I explain which app generates these files?

ok some help understnading apk files

please help this windows guy/android noob figure this out. ok i'm thinking an apk file is equivalent to an msi file.
i download an app from the android store...
it downloads as apk file to /data/app...
ok so is that the final home for the apk file or does this extract and "install" files and folder in other locations on the internal memory or sdcard?
does the app run from this location? when uninstalled, is it removed entirely or are there orphan files that can be left behind? where is the data associated with that app saved? same folder /data/app/?
when titantium backs up an app, does it just copy the apk files from /data/app?
thanks
mark

I was in a hurry when I posted the link and that was the best I could do at the time.
apk is more like a java jar file (in fact you can sign your apk with jarsigner in java) or self extracting zip. Don't quote me on it, but you need both the files in /data/app and /data/data to run the application. Some gets left inside the container, and files that get modified a lot are extracted to /data/data (along with data that personalizes the app for you, such as settings and profiles).
The xml manifest file in the apk tells it what permissions to ask for and what systems it can run on and such. If you get this http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/ you can reverse the apk so you can make sense of the files inside of it.
Titanium backup takes both the app and the data and stores them on the sdcard (unless you only tell it to backup the app, then it only takes from /data/app). The files located under /data/app are the entire application itself though and that will run if you give it to someone else as if you downloaded it from the market.
thanks for the great response.

[Q] Shortcut in sdcard for a folder in sdcard-ext

Hey guys!!!
Does anybody know a way to create a shortcut in sdcard where files stored in that folder is actually a shortcut to the folder in sdcard-ext....
I dont know if any one is getting this....
I mean to say that my sdcard is very low on memory and most of the applications requires memory in it...i want to create a shortcut in sdcard which is actually a shortcut to a folder in Sdcard-ext...so that any application would recognize it as a folder in sdcard when it actually stores in sdcard-ext and executes the function of the file in the shortcut folder properly...
I actually found a thread but no explanations....
sorry if anyone finds this thread unnecessary but if someone knows the answer that would be helpful for so many of us...
Thanks

I assume you are on a stock ROM?
On CM7 I can mount the say internal sdcard to something like /sdcard/internal. On CM7 internal is mounted as /emmc and external is /sdcard.
Have to change fstab and build.prop and reboot.

If I remember correctly, we used to do this with the ZT180 tablet, have a look at creating a symlink.
Thank you karloos and dennis for the prompt reply....
@dennis....yeah I am using a stock rom...is there any way to make it work...
@karloos....would you mind giving me the instructions as to how to create a symlink
And did it work in the tablet....
Thanks guys

Not sure on stock but if you would like send me your /system/build.prop and /system/etc/vold.fstab files and I can modify them.....basicly find where is mounts the /sdcard and /sd-ext and change them.
Like I said no idea if it will work on stock rooted roms.
The sdcard can not accept symlinks from my research. It will not allow it do to permissions on the partition.

Needed \System\app folder content? (only .apk files)

Hi guys,
I'd like to ask you if Android really need .APK files in folder \System\app ? Can I delete for example all these .apk files or are they used by OS? I know that I can use concrete .APK when I need to, but maybe I can make a copy of all to computer and delete them from phone...?
It's just for my info, I have no problem with disk space or something like that....just for info
Thanx,
Rado
