[Q] Weird reboot problem - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A while ago I have a weird problem. When my phone is on charge and I turn on 3G it keeps turning off like I would removed the battery. Everything fine until I start an app which uses internet, but when I do it turns off almost immediately. Wi-Fi works fine just the 3G is the problem. I got this problem on two different ROMs (FXP 115, FeraLab v14) and two different kernels (basic FXP115, DoomKernel v6 - medium overclocked), so it must be hardware related, am I right? If not hardware, what else could it be?
Sent from my Xperia X10 using Tapatalk

I had the same exact problem with my Motorola Backflip stock. In fact, if I moved locations where 3G wasn't available to where 3G was broadcasted, it would reboot. I could not fix it with any rom I installed (even tried CM7 which made the phone excellent except for the 3G reboots). I tried full wipes, stock Motorola Motoblur kernel, and everything else. I'm no dev so I didn't try tweaking anything myself and ended up getting rid of it and going with the X10. You can try the SEUS method but it can very well be hardware unfortunately. I hope you have more luck than I!!

If your phone is overclocked that could be a problem. Have a good search though sure I seen this before and think u have to either change something in build-prop or alter/remove a certain process (don't quote me though)

My phone has been overclocked since months, but I've never got this problem earlier, so I don't think that causes it, but I'll give it a try. And I'll search again maybe this time I find the answer. Thank you

Hi, I got a similar problem. Since a few weeks ago, flashed a ROM and when I've tried to use the phone, it keeps turning off randomly, sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after hours. So, I tried to take it back to the clean original 2.3.3 ROM, but it keeps happening. ¿Any idea? ¿Any solution? Please, help me. Oh, something else, it only happens when the phone's used with the battery, when it's attached to my laptop as modem, the problem doesn't appear.

[Q] SGSII Internet connection problem

Hey XDA
I've a problem with my SGSII.
I've tried a lot different roms like CM7, CheckRom, Oxygen, miui to find the perfect rom to fix my battery usage(my phone usally last for MAX 1 day, even on low usage. (Is this normal??, my friend get like 5 days with his SGSII)
Anyway, on pretty much all of the ROMs above I've occurred a problem with my internet connection - When my phone is idle for a while I looser internet connection and then I have to restart my phone to fix it.
Anyone with similar problem?
Is my phone defect?
Any way to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
This is my first thread on XDA, I hope I did it correctly (I've checked out suggested threads btw)
the problem with the internet connection is because of the signal is not resetting itself. You can use signalreset (market) app as a solution otherwise flash a stock firmware ROM from sammobile and see whether the problem is solved!
My Wi Fi stops working the same way too. All I do is that I reconnect WiFi from the notification bar.

Thank you for such a great and fast answer!
I will check out Signalreset asap, however if it just en/disable flightmode I am not sure if it helps. Because when it happened I always try en/disable flightmode, without luck - I have to restart to make it work :-/
Soo... it's a generel failure in some deeper laying hard- or software, that's not dependent of the generel software-version.
I'm starting to hate my phone, as it is loosing connection again and again, but only after updating to KI8_NEE. There has not been ANY problems with KI3_NEE, which worked perfectly and rocksolid - and solved the same problem from the previous versions... KI8 may be smoother, but i prefer stability over this generel failure (there's a lot of generel faults, not just lost data-connection).
If that the case, i'm going to smash this phone, or put KI3 back on it... i have been so happy with it, but after upgrading to KI8 - i'm starting to develop a hate-relationship with it...
My old HTC might be slow - but it is dead-on stable...
After trying the signalreset it still doenst work properly.
Any suggestions?

What baseband are you on?
I'm on XWKI1 on AT&T in south Florida and my connection is rock solid now.
That was not the case when I first got the phone with the factory ROM and baseband.

Yah 5 days.
He doesnt use the extended battery, just the standard. He's on CM7 and Cm7's kernel.

No I dont, I've tried Juice Defender but it didnt help my battery life so I uninstalled it..
I've tried a few days with the stock unrooted and the problem didnt occur, however the internet was still extremely slow, even when I had full signal.
Is there an application to boost signal/speed and/or fix problems?

FC/Auto-reboot issue

Hi everybody,
I'm trying to understand how to fix this problem that's affecting me since I have this device.
I've got it in my hands in the end of November, and I've quickly unlocked and rooted it to install CM7. I don't like motoblur, so I didn't use it until I had CM7 on it. After few hours of happiness, I suddenly started experiencing freezes with black screens (I had to remove battery to unlock it) and auto-reboots.
I've wiped, fastboot-wiped, re-flashed, many times but nothing.
Tried different Roms such as redpill hybrid and dark side...same!
Googling around out there I've found hundreds of users with these two bad issues, and after hours of reading, and observing my own Atrix I've figured out what follows:
There are mainly two different issues. Although they are often considered the same, I think they are separate and I have both:
GPU issue: after playing a game or any app that "stresses" the GPU I have my Atrix not waking up after screen-lock. Black screen but if you call it is up and running somewhere in the background. it appears death, and I have to remove the battery to wake it up again. Device heating at rear-bottom.
RADIO issue: when the signal isn't that good and it changes often spot it reboots all alone.
trying to understand if it is hardware related (not an issue, but maybe small differences in the hardware of different phones) yesterday I went back to stock froyo.
Since then everything seems to work properly. Incompatibility of some ROMs with my device?
I want to stay on stock for some days to a deep test, after that, I will search for a good stock gingerbread firmware to flash.
I hope to find a solution, 'cause since I don't have CM on my device I don't feel it really mine .
Sorry for my English, hope to have made myself clear.
Thanks.
What kernel are you using? Some phones can't handle a high overclock. As for a gb rom I suggest darkside.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Standard kernel @ 1Ghz. I've tried Faux's kernel @1.3 and 1.4, but I did it trying to solve the issue.
After good stock froyo and stock gingerbread experiences, I'm now happily running Aura deblurred.
Thank you, now I'll stay with Aura until CM9...
If you are experiencing the same issue look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21277632#post21277632

Help Touchscreen

when i press in my touchscreen sometimes i get random direction S**k particular when im typing suck sometimes i get wrong letter. . .what is my phone problem?did my touchscreen broke?sorry for bad english
Nope, it's because of the OC kernel. Underclock to ~800MHz or flash a non-OC kernel.
You're under CM7.2, aren't you?

Yeah, judging from your post in my thread your phone has issues with oc. Maybe you better off to not.
sat in my one piece devil outfit as I type. . . . . no. . . really!
I already spent a lot of time on that issue, spent boirs, and flashed tons of rom, scripts, and kernels...
It was fine with froyo, but every 2.3 roms had this issue, except kpy and further.
So the problemn has been solved on official roms.
But i get this problem on EVERY custom rom.... Every, except gingereal 1.4, don't know why...
I tried all the CM version, including 7.1 (grif and behrad), 7.2 rc0 and rc1, gingercrust, and all Jusada's rom...
And the problem is in every roop...
I deeply believe it's related to kernel: it's even worst with oc kernel, but trust me, the problem happened with every kernels including non oc.
For me at least, thiz iz the biggest issue on the Ace.
Maybe i will open a new detailed topic, including all what i've done.
I would really appreciate that some dev fix this major issue, poisonning my phone with every custom rom.

I have exactly the same issue and i made the same experiences as you.
KPY and later fixes that issue to a certain degree but it still happens sometimes.
I came to the point that it cant be software related. Because my friends ace doesn't have that problem, no matter what rom he flashes.
So either our cpus don't run stable at stock voltage or the touchscreen is defective.
I noticed that the problem is also related to how you charge your phone. Depending on if u charge it via usb or use the wall charger. It definately happens less frequently if i use the wall charger.
So could it probably be a defective battery?
I'm really thinking of bringing it to the service point but they will prolly just flash a kpy or later fw and say it's fixed

The manual book states that if the battery is plugged in to charge, there is a chance of the touchscreen malfunctioning. I have this charging-related issue with my friend's charger (which uses a microUSB adaptor, but the phone is an old Samsung phone): the touchscreen "touches" itself (no sexual reference there).
Another bug I got (which I discussed above) is the malfunctioning touchscreen on an OC kernel.
I can almost be certain that it has nothing to do with the battery, but more with the kernel.

Basically the OP says that he's having troubles with the touchscreen, and it's really annoyinng when typing.
I (and several other people) believe it's because of the OC kernel present in Axel's CM7.2 and other ROMs based on it.

Atrix random reboots and screen not turning back on

Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone can help me....I'm getting kind of desperate here! Basically my Atrix keeps randomly rebooting or getting stuck with the screen off (requiring a batter pull) . This happens about 10-20 times a day (my Atrix is far too unreliable right now to use as a daily). This seems to ONLY happen when on network (ie 2g/3g/hspa) and doesn't seem to happen on wifi. I can leave it on all night and day at home on wifi happily with no trouble but as soon as I go to work and leave it on network, the trouble starts. Its weird cause if the phone is doing something with the screen off (playing and streaming music over Bluetooth for example) it won't have any problems. Its only once I leave it at rest on the network that it turns into the most unreliable handset ever.
At first I thought it may be the neutrino rom I was running but I've since been using jokersax's amazing ics builds and the same problem persists. I did a full clean (format /data & /system plus cache and factory wipe ) and loaded on the latest beta build this morning, left it clean with zero apps except google (and xda!) and within an hour of getting to work the problem came back.
I am fully boot loader and network unlocked.
Please, if anyone has any idea I would be really grateful. I am tearing my hair out!

It is happening with me too, but, I dont realize it on happen on mobile data connection
Since i flashed beta 0.1.0 2d of Jokersax's ICS and come out of home
Today, for 5 times I have to pull battery out of Atrix
Why not try a more stable ROM first and see if you get reboots. You do realize some phones just cannot handle unstable roms like the cm9 builds even though they are great for some ppl it just doesn't workout also maybe you are using an oc kernel that your phone cannot handle.I would check both things first.
Try some a bit more stable.
cm7 ba2ft
wetdream
darkside
gingermod
If you get the same with those then maybe fastboot wipe and stuff like that so you can clear everything out
EDIT: flash a radio too

Hey,
Thanks, I'm going to try Gingerblur tonight... I had ruled that out as I have used darkside/gingerblur before and apart from the occasional reboot they were OK. The reboot was OK really, I know its a known issue with this model even with unrooted handsets, as long as its occasional and clean boots back to system again it doesn't really matter as I don't pin lock my sim (currently my problems are either a reboot every three minutes as soon as I switch the screen off... or, more commonly, the dead screen, needing that battery pull) .
I *suspect* that it may be the radio, but really need some solid advice on this because a couple of years ago I completely bricked my G1 by flashing the wrong radio and vowed never to touch radios again if I didn't have to....I am naturally very hesitant about radio flashing from that episode. Can anyone give me some decent advice on which radios i should be looking at for an unlocked ( but formerly Orange UK) Atrix? One very nervous owner here!
The other weird thing is that is perfectly fine when on a power source.

Hang on, I'm not making sense here, maybe it is these advanced ROMs, I was just surprised that neutrino (a cm7 based rom) also produced these reboot problems. Anyway, any advice on radios would be appreciated

As long as you flash atrix radios only you should be okay. I flashed just about every applicable radio on my brother's captivate and never bricked it.
I agree with you and previous posters, it sounds like a radio issue for sure.

I have the same problem with my Atrix running cm7 ba2ft. Sometimes it does not respond when you try to unlock, and I need to take out the battery to turn it on again. I bought the phone couple of weeks ago.
another thing to look at would be the battery my friend had similar problems with his nexus and tryed Roms and radios I bought him a new battery as a joke and the joke ended up on me cause he hasn't had the problem since let me know if this helped you aswell

Same problem here. Very aggravating.
I am having the same problem. And I am 100% stock with no mods. I just installed OTA 2.3.6 so I am waiting to see if that helped.
Yeah, I'm really worried this is a hardware problem - I've been quiet these past couple of days testing the brand new GB radio and when that still had errors i then also tried the European one - the problem still persists. I have now downloaded every Atrix radio under the sun now so may try a few more...
This is quite frustrating as a) I really want to enjoy ICS as it really is a step up from previous versions of Android and b) I no longer have the option of selling this in its current state.
I'm also going to try a new battery as WikidClown suggested above, can't harm....I can pick up one on Amazon for less than a tenner.
One thing is for sure, I don't think I will be buying Moto hardware again!

i baught my atrix used. everything was stock. still had multiple reboots and battery pulls daily. on cm9 they seem to happen less. and the battery pull only happened once. but i know the issue must still be there. might try my wifes battery. her atrix has rebooted maybe 5 times ever. 3 since this last official update (she is still lock stock and 2 smoking barrels)
OK, trying a new battery is my last hope...I did a fastboot wipe this morning and for an hour and a half it was all going so well...but then the reboot happened.
I'm getting a bit fed up with this pos hardware...I can't even sell this thing in this state.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Anyone have any other experiences? I have confirmed that it isn't the battery...I bought a new batter and within 45 minutes it has rebooted once and done the screen off thing where it needs a battery pull. Complete crap.
One thing to note is that it does seem to get very warm on the back, although the internals ( behind the battery) don't seem so bad. Is there any way to keep the temp down aside from underclocking? All my roms have always been under clocked so I know that doesn't make any difference.
The other thing I might try is to use something like Noled so the phone isn't completely idle. Might drain the battery a bit unnecessarily though....why couldn't Moto have put in an amoled screen?
Anyway, will report back once I've tried it.

I used to get tons of random reboots and then I was told to get the app called "Wake My Android Pro". Settings -> Test Activity -> Auto Startup, and Stop Activity checked. Weird settings, I know, technically with stop activity checked it doesn't do anything, but ever since then I don't experience random reboots. This was a few months ago when I was on just CM7. I've always installed this app when I get a new rom and I've tried Neutrino, Darkside, Alien, Aura, CM7, Wet Dream, and currently on joker's CM9 beta 1 build and RARELY experience random reboots. It went from once an hour to once a month now. I'm also on the .36p radio if that helps.

Cheers, have downloaded and will report back. The most annoying thing about troubleshooting a problem like this is that there is no immediate 'it worked or 'it didn't work' ....it's just a waiting game! Thanks a lot though, really hope it does work (and thanks for replying, was starting to feel like I was answering threads to myself!). I have .36 radio installed already (I think, will check...it's the Brazilian one isn't it?) .
Just to check then...you have all the check boxes in wake my android ticked?

Lost of Data connection in ICS

Hello all.
I've been having a strange thing in my XPS since I've updated (officially) to ICS.
Randomly the data connection simply stops working.
Basicly I've got full signal, the 3G signal is there, but the H stops showing and no connection at all. I never had this problem in GB...
The only solution is to reboot the phone. As soon as I do that is working again, till the next failure.
Any ideas what might be happening? And the web brwosing in ICS is so much slower... In GB is was almost instant, in ICS is... Awfull. Should I go back to GB? None of the new things in ICS really interest me.
There is some reports about this bug,you have to wait for an update or try another firmware.

Same here.
When I leave my home network in the morning I have to reboot my phone because data is not available until reboot.
If later connect to any wireless network the data traffic comes back like always before.
Same is with my home network. If the phone is connected to home network and I force data, it's always working, only the morning is problematic.
I'm using ICS 4.0.4

It just randomly stop to communicate even if the 3G or H icon is there. A samsung guy told me it may be an incompatibility between the ICS kernel and the modem firmware. No issues while connected to any WIFI.
Fixed with a reboot. Never happened to me with GB.

ive noticed that after every 12-15hours my data connectivity shuts off completely. only solution is a reboot. this never happened on gb. annoying indeed.

same here (sony ICS rom). i talked to sony about one week ago regarding this issue. they told me that this comes from my sim card. i told them that i've never had such a problem with my SE C510 but they insist that the issue can only be solved with replacing the card... i do not believe this. i see the little arrow appears below the "H" and that means data is sent but not received. still turning off and on the phone once a week.
I am having this problem too on UK generic Android 4.04 build number 6.1A0.453
No fix yet?
How's possible Sony is not aware of this problem?

I would actually agree with what Sony say here, I was away for a few weeks and used a forign SIM card for that duration. Not once did the Data stop working, that included hopping between Wifi, H, 3G, E, etc.. So Maybe it is a SIM issue ? SInce I came back I also updated to the newest ICS release and haven't seen the issue yet.
I have the same problem and it's extremely annoying. I lose data connection after about couple of days. It doesn't make sense that this is a sim problem because GB was fine.
I have ICS 6.1.A.0.453.
