I'm Back! (for a limited time at least) - Motorola Droid X2

I know that I've been extremely busy with school and all, but I'm just posting to give a heads up that this weekend I am working on the DX2. You can find me at the IRC at the freenode channel #cm7dx2. Can't wait to see you guys there!
P.S. that 2nd core thread over in the dev forums is a bunch of crap. don't use it. our 2nd core turns on automatically when needed. it's a power save feature in EVERY Tegra 2 device. So if you want to drain your battery, go on ahead.

Yeah dzk u Da man. Really, I'm glad u got some time for us... happy happy happy..

How would I get to the IRC channel to follow?

Go to http://webchat.freenode.net and sign in. in the channel section type "#cm7dx2"

Stuff is happening again! Too bad I just left DX2 along with some others... Would have been awesome to see CM9 eventually running on this Dual core machine... may be it will be better than my Dinc2... :/

Hey there Dragon, thanks for popping in and saying something so we don't have to answer the "what the heck is going on with cm9" question all day long.
Calling that second core thread "crap" is kind of mean. I'm sure Trafalgar worked hard on that. We were aware of the risks but traded a bit of life for performance.
But again thanks for the update.

His point is that there is no performance gain. The script just forces the second core to run at full capacity 100% of the time, instead of on-demand, which doesn't make a difference when you consider that on-demand just means it will activate the second core if the first core can't complete the task on its own.
Honestly I think the only difference that script will make is serious battery drain.
That said, I do appreciate the work trafalgar put into it. Always nice to see that there is still some hope for this phone's development

DX2 ICS
Hey DragonzKiller. Welcome back!
As much as I'd love to switch form DX2, I'm stuck for another 1.5 years, so ICS is a BIG deal to me.
I can be absolutely patient as long as we still have hope.

Dragon,
I feel ya on the schoolwork. I'm in the library, as I type, because my goal is walking across that stage in a month. Regards to your poll, I was thinking of voting for the first one, but my DX2 is running well with the current CM7. So I voted #2, so we can hopefully experience what we've been all missing out on. I cherish however long you stay with the DX2 because it's a long time until mid-2013....
Thanks for everything

ROM LOVE! CM9, AOKP, Gummy, etc etc...

Now that the bootloader has been bypassed, can we please get official CM9 and AOKP with stable releases and everything working? My friend has an SGS2 and its already running CM9. And I know for a fact that the RAZR is WAYYYY better than the SGS2. So let the ROM MANIA BEGIN! =D
I wish I can run CM9 but I am afraid that the bypass is still in so beta stage that it will take more time until we see cm and others...
Bypass is not working. It's very close though.
Only one CPU core works for now. An overclocked DX will beat your phone, and maybe that's OK.
Bypass is working right? I dont see why we cant have CM9 with only 1 core working, its fine! =D

Exactly my point. Lets start working on custom ROMs with what we have right now. Kholk and mbm seemed to have worked pretty hard on this and it'll be a shame if we can't take advantage of it and start work on custom ROMs. Moto's gonna delay the stock ICS for us anyways.

Droid X. Not MAXX, lol.
I can overclock my old DX to 1425MHz v the Razr Maxx 1200MHz (stock).
Dual core isn't likely to work anytime soon; I cloned the source code and looked for an easy solution, but the kexec owners exhausted the options from what I can see.
A single-core 1200MHz ARM processor will still make a powerful device however. I'm with you: I'd like to play with a CM9 build. And MIUI. Even a single-core CM9 might beat a dual-core stock build.
/My two cents worth.

You're clouding the discussion with facts and reasonable argument. Is that fair?
Personally, I don't complain here or elsewhere unless there's a good reason, like when someone calls a writeable/moddable "image" a "ROM" (which means Read-Only-Memory). Call it a package, or image - call it something new - but drop the term "ROM" in the toilet where it belongs.
Maybe that's grammar Nazi nonsense, but this is science. Science requires consistent and accurate communication, else it's just a chaotic mud-scramble by bald smelly apes with beer.
Mmm beer.

Then I guess we should thank you for being the visionary to be the only one to think about this. I imagine the ROMs will flow like water now that you created this thread.
By the way I wasn't judging you for not contributing anything. Just pointing out that you are busy asking where the free development is instead of doing it yourself.

I guess we all have our breaking points. Only thing I hate more than when someone asks a question in a thread (whether related to the thread or not) that has been already been answered several times (or can be Googled easily) is when someone spoon feeds them by answering. Meanwhile, when someone asks relevant questions or makes a relevant comment, it gets lost in the bs. Oh well, it is what it is. Thanx for the work u did put in...

Cubed 2.3.1...
fwiw, on 2.2.1 and on 2.2.3, I had NO issues with reboots, lockups, SoD, heat, lag, speed, etc. I think the issues are with the controllers and maybe a combination of messing around with voltages. The ONLY times I experienced any and almost all of these issues is when I used either System Tuner (Pro) or Android Tuner. When I use "old faithful" SetCPU, NO ISSUES and battery life is phenomenal. I don't comment much until I have thoroughly tested... or unless someone in the thread is buggin out with worrisome questions/comments. Anyway, nice work.
btw, I use min 192, max 1728 and interactivex2, Lionheart, badass, and msm-dcvs. I primarily use interactivex2 tho. I try all the schedulers. I don't notice any difference but I primarily use fiops now (because it sounds cool!)
It was fun while it lasted! Thanks for getting us this far.

It wasn't I was just speaking what dsb said awhile back in thread although it's probably been deleted or edited. It's all our devices or setcpu, kernel tuner or system tuners fault according to dsb and the kernel had nothing to do with it. He asked people to post there logcat and etc and then said wasn't kernel. I mean cmon all those apps work fine with stock kernel. Overall I think it's quite sad you let people get to you like this. If you feel you have to reply to every little comment and go off all hasty like this that is very very sad. We need devs that are willing to work with the community and not think they are holier than the rest of community!!

you have NO idea how many people look @ those kmsg, 99% of them are NOT because of the kernel. you my friend are a douche. those apps don't work fine on stock on this phone, they just DO NOT FUNCTION.
camera crashes the phone on 100% stock.
25% wakelocks on 100% stock
SOD on 100% stock.
yet, you the super dev, think that it's D's fault because he works 10+ hours a day to fix ****.
I'm surprised you're not banned from life.
SIGH
this is the EXACT drama that the rezound forums had, and i was hoping to all hell the DNA would be different....it's been doing so well, too...sigh.
See it can get frustrating reading complaints about issues when they provide little detail as to what exactly they were running...
Ie if you have issues on custom kernel you should be sure to state if you changed voltages, governor, clock speeds....ANYTHING that's different from pure stock and provide log for the dev too...
Just stating X is happening and doesn't on stock doesn't help them at all most of the time...as most of the time when that is happening its bc something extra the user is doing on the custom kernel like the items I mentioned above....
Hopefully time passes and he comes back for yall. Just take my notes going forward though on here as it can get frustrating as a dev trying to find root cause of an issue with little to no info or just a log even...

Looking through your posts there I couldn't find a single instance where you provided either a logcat or kmsg. Instead, you repeatedly talked about switching to other kernels and kept creating unproductive and provocative posts.
Contrary to your assumption that "devs were supposed to fix bugs here" no one here owes you anything, and unless you're willing to help fix an issue you have no business posting in any of the development threads. It's as simple as that.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39523082&nocache=1
I had the opportunity to try a barely functioning Sense 5 build. It was very fluid, but because hardly anything worked, I obviously didn't use it long. I have SVN set up already, and will be trying this ROM once it's "publicly" available. I'm a very patient person. I suppose that's a good thing right now. Lol
Glad you started this! I'm going to play around with the kernels some more and if you don't care I will just post my results here!

Well if you have the svn set up you should check out latest. It is very very fluid, and the only things not working so far are
Gallery
3g
4g
ZOE (acts like its working, but will never complete the zoe)
Gallery <- again.
but everything else is working quite well at the moment wifi has solved most of my connection issues and i dont really need 3g while im on the go as its wayyyyy too slow in my area anyways, sure it will be nice to have, but its not a necessity, and everything else but those things are working.
ive made a number of calls, sent a few texts and am using email to send sms out to people at the moment.
what did you find wrong with the rom so i can check it out?

The ROM I tried was a private build provided to me, just for fun. Other than the UI, nothing worked. No camera, Wi-Fi, data, talk. In no way was it meant for any kind of public release. I also promised the person whom allowed me to use it, that I wouldn't share with anyone. I stand by my word. Sorry.

That would work. By all means, go ahead. I roam when I'm at home anyway. Data means next to nothing to me.

Hey inman, when you get a good solid kernel going let me know how you set it up and everything, i would love to swap kernels but the last one i used seemd to slow it down (older version of ARC reactor)

Also! thank you kerkedagain thats awesome and i will be trying it soon.
These devs have done some amazing work and need applauded for there effort on this! Within a few days they have a complete build with the only real issues are data, gallery fc, and Bluetooth, that's nothing short of amazing! I personally tried a port when the system dump became available and the things I was beating my head against the wall trying to figure out they fix in minutes! Needless to say once I saw this line up of devs working on a port I quit all attempts and am glad they can make it happen! Since I am new here (as a member) and can't try to help in the development thread yet, I at least want to say you guys are truely appreciated! Thanks

+1 to this.
Also for anyone trying this rom out in the future, it comes with blinkfeed as page one, and homescreen as page 2. Add a third page to boost smoothness of the entire rom. just noticed that.

What kind of interest is there for "Goodness" rom?

Been in this section for a few months now, there is some great devs here along with great roms. But is there ever really enough rom choices out there?? No there's not!
So I'm curious to see what kind of intrest there would be for a rom like this on the Verizon note 2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42316916

That was kinda my point with it... Not really seeing much other than what is already out there...
What it give you? What's it gonna get with it?
A simple "not interested" would've sufficed. And its only looking like that because of a theme, which can be done with pretty much any other touchwhiz ROM as well. And in my opinion that looks pretty nasty. I like the look of "goodness" ROM and not over the top.
And the thing about all these different roms is to make them look different otherwise they're all built off of stock.

Boy, let's keep developers from posting their work, that's what you do.
First time I saw BigToysRock's work was on the Sprint E4GT. He's a good dude that does good work. I'd like to see what he has to offer. Don't let the doubters get in your way man

I guess this isn't a collaborative thread or am I mistaken...
I am always interested in finding new roms and different looks and devs to try and get new stuff going. I was just putting out there.
I am looking for a lightweight 4.1.2 rom so I can get something going with the dual boot...
Now if people want to take offence or take shots at me, please go right ahead and I hope you feel better about yourself if you had a crappy day.
I am always interested in trying new stuff on my phone.
Just looking for some similarities and what to look for in something new that is coming maybe to our phone.
Thanks for your insight.

If I was not interested I would have not left a message in the thread. If you are mistaken, Sir, about my intent you might want to seek understanding rather than rush to judgement and and insult.
I thank you for your opinion and will do with it accordingly.
No lets get back to the business of finding out about this new option for our devices and see what "Goodness" it has to offer!

10-12 Note 2 ROMs are not enough? There are web sites that list them all.
Ridin' a Note 2 blast
I would try the rom. Looks interesting. Only thing in the change log that I didn't see mentioned, is if you can change the carrier text to whatever you wanted. Also if group messaging will work for Verizon without being individual messages. PITA when you cant respond in the same group conversation. I don't think there are enough quality roms for our Verizon N2. There is numerous roms for sprint and att.
Agree with you and your very thought out post. Plus hmmmm 72 internets?

[DEV} SELinux Permissive & custom kernels (no SD/exfat)

I've managed to build a kernel but can't get exfat working. Everything else is fine including Permissive mode on SELinux.
If someone can help with figuring out why I can't get exfat working, that would be awesome.
This is my first kernel but will definitely not be my last!
Thanks!
I fixed it.

I'm on the edge of my seat! Hopefully your kernel can help with this silly phone wanting to stay awake all the time! I suppose there's a pretty good reason why you have so many "Thanks" ;-p
Just for all you guys that dont seem to know who Freeza is. This guy was one of the most elite developers on the Galaxy S3. This guys work is flawless and bulletproof. He will release all new versions that come out as time goes on and also the firmware to go with these releases. Please show appreciation for this guys work!
Freeza who?
Good to see you here my friend. Get to work!
If you need anything at all, let me know. And good luck with this and all your other work!

Sorry that I've been with an outdated phone for a while, didn't mean any disrespect. For clarification, I recognized his determination immediately and am happy to put his work to use:thumbup:

Thanks everyone for your awesome comments. You guys rock. I'm currently trying to set up a git (new to all this kernel stuff) so once it's done, I will go ahead and post up the kernel.
May your faith move mountains and your power level be over 9000
Love it. Keep up the good work brother.
