[Q] CyanogenMod 9? - Sony Tablet S

Hello,
Does anyone know if the CyanogenMod Team is working on a Cm9 port for this tablet?
Mine currently runs Honeycomb and I'm afraid Sony's ICS will not be as good as possible.

no and never
this will be the best thing can happen but until there is no unlocked bootloader and sginature bypass there is no chance for cm9 i think.

just thinking...
As I read I could write in German as well.
Well, bad news indeed. I was just pondering because Sony (Ericsson) was helping the CM-Team with their phones and since Steve Kondik himself is working on the SGT 10.1 (after all having the same specs) it seemed kinda imaginable to me.
Only time will tell...

Even if CM could somehow get a working CM9 image for the S going, without an unlocked bootloader, signature checks in place (but apparently removable), and kernel sources being incomplete, it could never be distributed for use.

I was running a perfectly functional cm7 and cm9 on my old motorola milestone 2 with a locked bootloader, using the official kernels. Where there is a will there's a way (subject to someone being a dev.)
We would most definately loose the IR function I would think.

[Q] Android 4.0 Custom ROMs?

Hi there,
as i was reading about the release of the Android 4.0 source code i´m asking myself how long will it take until we have a custom ROM based on android 4.0!
Are some crews already working on it?
Please give me a feedback when you can!
we will get the roms when we get the roms. CM9 should be out soon now that they have the code, which they said they needed to start production, so possibly when we have that, our devs can start punching out some roms. also, in the ICS thinktank on the development page and for example the nexus s forum, they are working on the touchscreen drivers so that they can test more components of the rom.
just be patient
seems to be a lot of time until we have some roms. also Z isnt around anymore.
dunno how to deal with touchscreen drivers for the nexus s! why are they important for a X10 rom? touchscreen is already working isnt it?
as Sony Ericsson is an official member of CyanogenMod now, im woundering that there is NO build for the X10i...........
Curios isnt it?

Official CM support has stopped for the X8 and X10mini/mini pro, since 2.3.7 is the best thing that those phones can handle...and the aftermarket support for X10 would end soon I believe, maybe right after the stable mod comes out.

If the touchscreen isn't working, how would we use the phone? And we are working cyanogenmod, ever heard of the FXP CM7 ROM that's the official one.

The FXP is the official one? Seriously?
The FXP Rom is far away from being stable enough for daily use. Weekly updates and not even finish sources for all parts.......
They are working for a long time on this ROM already and ey..... dont get it wrong.... i´m dontating ALWAYS when using a custom Rom as my daily one.....
....but in last time i lost my faith........
Z gone away! He was the mega-brain behind many progresses........
Dunno what we have to expect in the future!
Will the FXP team finish there work sometime?
As far as i know the FXP CM7 is NOT based on Android 4.0. Its base on? 2.3.4? I dont know........
I was getting an eye on the Galaxy Nexus but it is soooooooo expensive .......
going to stay on my X10

When all the bugs are gone, it will be released as stable.
Go join the bug hunt if you want it faster...
It's highly unlikely that we will ever get a fully stable Android 4.0 rom, for the reasons listed elsewhere in these fora. We may get ports, but they will take time, and lots of it.
Be patient and don't ask for ETAs.

It's not based on anything, they are literally making a rom with sources that they are writing. That's why it took ages compared to other ported roms.

Actually the rom is very stable for daily use with very minor bugs that they are working on. if you have lost faith in a device that is 2 years old with no support now from SE heres some advice, get a new phone! but for the rest of us who enjoy having such a great array of developers that very capable of bringing us support when we need it. Yes Z has done alot for the X10, but dont forget other devs and dont just focus on one.
First rule of CM7: Dont ask for an ETA! you must be patient like with anything. If google and samsung released ICS earlier, imagine what we would be missing.
Well clearly CM7 isnt based on 4.0, cos the source code has only been released to us. you cant expect every dev to be up day and night sitting at there pc waiting for the code, they are real people with real lifes.
Well if your going to stay with the X10, please for the love of god, stop complaining about how we havent got ICS roms yet when no other devices has a nearly stable one yet.

thanks for helping
at first: I did not ask for a release date of a ROM!
this thread is meant to discuss about what we have and can expect in the future for our X10. Its not made to complain about ppl or the devs. It´s meant to get the facts cleary for everyone.
STOP RAGING IN THIS THREAD!
So about the android 4.0 storry: Sony will spend an Android 4.0 update for the X10 ARC! The normal X10 isnt that far away ........... but still such a big prob to port it?
There will be alot devices which get a stock update to ICS and they will be stable.
The point i dont understand is why devs are working that hard on a mod which is already outdated..........
Ofc they try to re-create android with there own source codes but ey.......... you seriously thinking about writing your own operating system for a mobile phone?
Android have been founded by high skilled (and highly paid) informatics guys hired by google! I guess 50% of our devs are <18 years and not even skilled in programming. Don´t get this wrong now..... i dont want to blame you guys! But why do you think we can write a new firmware..............?
Maybe you running behind the wrong goals ............
For me the crew should focus on Android 4.0. Thats the only ROM ppl want to have now. And ey yeah it would be awesome to have ICS on my 2 years old X10!

First, it's quite hard to port 4.0 onto our X10 since we have a really old kernel (.29), not to mention whether our hardware can handle that or not...
Second, the FXP team's goal is to get the X10 up to CM specs so that we can have as much official CM support as we want until the newest android versions become too much for the X10 to handle.
And don't even try to say that most of the devs here are below eighteen, because most of them aren't and have a proper job. If you are looking for child labour to develop your device you're at the wrong forum.

What we have: an almost stable CM7 ROM.
What we can expect for the future: a fully stable CM7 ROM.
What we -might- get: an ICS ROM that probably won't ever be stable.
By the way, what is an X10 ARC? Never heard of that device before.
Assuming that you mean the Arc, there are huge differences between the X10 and the Arc. It will probably not even be practical to try and port ICS from it.
The devs are working on "outdated" CM7 because it is most likely to become fully stable after some work. If they start working on ICS now, they won't have a fully stable CM7 ROM to help them. CM9, based on ICS, isn't even released yet, so do elaborate on what you meant when you said the mod they were working on was outdated. There isn't even any phones with ICS yet...
By describing the devs as under 18s with little coding experience you are actually being extremely naive and disrespectful. Go have a chat with aZuZu or DooMLord about kernels, you'll see what I mean. I don't know if that's what you were intending, but you sound quite rude.
Building a working, let alone stable, ICS ROM, or any ROM for that matter, is not easy. It takes time to build, test, find bugs and iron them out.
Also, for your information, a handful of devs are already working on an ICS port alongside their current projects. Have a quick look in the dev section.
I hope you see my point now.

[POLL] Official CyanogenMod For ACE

Let's see what everybody thinks...
...So as most of us already know there will be an official CM7 for ACE. So let's guess when will that be.
You know, we do know. But its nit forth coming. I can't help thinking its sat on a PC somewhere and there it will stay. Just my opinion, hope I'm wrong.
sat in my one piece devil outfit as I type. . . . . no. . . really!
in my humble opinion, I think ever since it took a lot: (
Noob question:
I'm confused, I don't understand what's with the excitement about an official version. When and if the official CM for Ace will be released, what would the difference supposedly be to one of our unofficial versions? I'm currently using the vo-1 CM7.2 ROM for some time now and it has been very stable already.

I agree, most roms in here are trully amazing. I believe one of the issues that developers have to face with the official version is if the system will be armv5 or armv6 processor based. Somehow this affects lots of things. All roms in here are armv6 based... maybe an armv5 based rom will make it more stable. Maybe i am talkng rubbish, I am not an expert really.
I believe that developers of the official version try to deal with basic apps to work properly as in stock roms, like wifi, cam and stuff like that. As we already know some roms in here had issues with those that were finally fixed... anyway, this is just a poll

That makes it even more confusing. We have an ARMv6 CPU but a ROM based on ARMv5 would make it more stable?
Just sit tight and wait for unofficial CM9
i don't care about official one,i only want better camera clarity in CM7
i cant wait for that
Dont know how much time we have to wait to get official CyanogenMod...

well then you are too self conscious..
all features you need may be working fine but there is still something that needs work and official release would be as stable as stock roms without any bugs..
ports are meant to be getting something to just work on your device
official means meant to be run on yours
and atleast you should be happy that its getting official as most of android devices dont have them except some bunch of high end ones

[Q] Stability and Speed on roms (And my concern for ICS)

I know ICS is on the way but I am not particularly excited about it.
I was using honeycomb on my gtablet for a few months and was constantly frustrated by the laggyness and broken features. I am not ungrateful because I know the developers are working with what they have, which is next to nothing. But that doesn't stop it from being true that the honeycomb roms were not very stable.
I recently switched down to froyo, trying to get skype working so I could maybe give it to a friend for that purpose, and i was blown away by the stability and speed! It is amazing and I have actually used it to accomplish a few things in my daily life which I can't say I was able to do before. It really left an impression on me that just because an OS is old it doesn't mean it can't be better than the latest.
So now my concern is that ICS will be the same. Is there anything developers can really do to make ICS good without the source code/drivers? Or will it be another ROM that is just there to say you have the latest android on your device, no matter how many compromises there are with it.
I've got ICS on my droid incredible and on my galaxy nexus, and it would be cool to have it on all 3. But I have no problem keeping froyo on my tablet if it is simply better at accomplishing a task.
Haterade disclaimer
This post is not meant to bad mouth the developers or the community. In fact I am constantly amazed at what they are able to accomplish with so little. I don't mean to imply what they do is easy. I also don't think I could do any better. I wouldn't be able to do it in 10 years.
The gTablet actually has pretty decent specs. As a developer on ICS I can tell you that I can boot my tablet in 20 seconds and it operates great. Obviously there are still bug fixes but the build is progressing well. HD video and HW accel all work. Flashback or whatever HC build was laggy because the lack of proper drivers/kernel. We now have all of that for ICS. I'm guessing that by the time our build is done/tweaked it will be more stable and faster than froyo. Keep your head up and watch for the release sooner than later.
You have to take into account that the versions of Honeycomb on the gTablet were hacks of other device versions. It wasn't a true build for our devices, which is why some things wouldn't work. With FroYo, everything is working since all the pieces have been available.
What makes things look better with the ICS development (compared to Honeycomb) is that they are developing a kernel specifically for the gTablet. This, in itself, should make it a lot better than the pieced-together Honeycomb ports. Already they have hardware acceleration and HD video working, things that were only present in FroYo ROMs prior to this new kernel. Personally, I think the ICS build is looking stronger than any Gingerbread or Honeycomb version ported to the gTablet.

This is exactly the response I was hoping to hear.
I wasn't exactly sure if we would get HW accel and HD video with ICS. I knew we didn't have it on HC.
I'll stay optimistic though, thanks.

Thanks for that. Now I am excited lol.
If we can get a 1.5ghz ICS build as fast as the Froyo ROMS and as stable then that is fantastic. That was exactly what I was unsure about... since Gingerbread and Honeycomb were not so strong, would the same be true with ICS? I guess the answer is no, ICS should be awesome for our tablet.

Don't worry we have a great team working on it, and as fosser says when it is released everything will run fast with HW acceleration, there will be no reason to ever run froyo again, unless you like running retro stuff for fun

Camera will likely be working right?
Nevermind, I saw the DRH rom and it says no camera atm. I hope that could be added soon.
Hello all! For my first post, I'd like to say THANK YOU tohat all the developers that have worked so hard to bring us all these great ROMs. I have currently rolled back to the stock ROM, and will likely suffer with froyo until this ICS ROM comes out. While I am looking forward to it, I also know that nothing happens in a vacuum. If you devs are willing, I would be eager to volunteer my time and experience (close to two decades of using and building Linux systems and troubleshooting kernel problems, as well as configuring and building kernels) towards this project as a start. If there is any interest, any of you can PM me from here. And again, thanks!
Oops! Got my threads switched. The above was for the ICS ROM thread. Sorry for the confusion.

I actually had it downloaded and installed last night and have been playing with it for most of today.
It is fast, but unless I flashed it incorrectly or something it doesn't appear to be nearly as stable as froyo.
Yes, it is in beta and has just been released so it would be foolish of me to expect it to instantly be as stable as the froyo roms. But this is just not there yet. Browser crashes often for me.
Like I said before.
I've got ICS on my droid incredible and on my galaxy nexus, and it would be cool to have it on all 3. But I have no problem keeping froyo on my tablet if it is simply better at accomplishing a task.

I can see the hard work that has gone into this ROM, and I can see the benefits from working from the ground up for just this tablet. I love what you guys are doing. Keep up the good work and it might eventually get to that level.

ROM for CM7 Complete... Whats Next?

Gday guys,
I have a question regarding the short term future of the Nook Tablet. Now, Celtic Solutions have finished making CM7 ROM, I am unsure about what happens next.
I have got the latest CM7 Rom installed on my Tablet when it was released in Early April, if i wanted a more recent update version of CM7, what must i do.
I'm just a bit unclear about what is meant to happen next? Apart from CM9.
Is it possible that someone can shead some light on this topic for me.
Cheers Steve
CM7 is complete enough that it can be used quite well as a daily driver. It was never really meant to be an end all be all for the Nook tablet; more of an interim rom until CM9 was complete/stable. A new developer is being brought in for CM9 so stay tuned for development.
I don't really know if there is being much work done on CM7 but like I said, its fairly complete as is. CM9 is as well, with the exception of the proper kernel and subsequently hardware acceleration (netflix, higher end games).
Ah I see, well I can't wait for the full release of cm9 then. I've seen them talking about the cm7.2, does that relate to the 8GB tablet.
I know I'm not meant to ask this but... Have they put a rough ETA on when cm9 will be released? Loads of guys donated to buy some developers a nook tablet, do we can't be far off. What do ya think?

There was a misunderstanding about some gpl issues beetween the NT build config and proper source git sync.
All got clear after original_ganjaman spoke with CelticWebSolutions.
So CelticWebSolutions when find some time may update CM7.
Theres never an ETA.
I'm so happy with CM7 I'm not even looking anymore

Can't you just play with some themes for CM7 and make it look like ICS?
There is no such thing as ETA on things like these.
(Off topic- I understand why captcha is used, heck I use it on my own websites, but this one in particular is really annoying).

Is there something wrong with the 7.2 build you have now? CyanogenMod's 7.2 branch is the latest release, their fixes are mostly bugfixes related to specific devices now, since they've moved most of their development to the CM9 devices.
As said previously, there is no ETA for cm9. When they get the kernel working, when they finish their respective tweaks, it'll be done. If you have any programming knowledge, they're actively looking for new members to help with the work though!

[Q] Any rom 4.0 (or higher) that isn't seriously broken?

As far as I can see, there really isn't any rom out there that will give you Android 4.0 or higher, and that still lets you use the video cam. I'm not too big on recording but I still consider it to be a very integral part of a phone, so of course I don't want to omit on that feature.
Now, ICS has been out for quite some time and the official Android iterations have already moved far ahead, but the latest stable release I can find for Atrix seems to be CM 7. Android 2.3.7. And that was in June 2012. Seems like stone age. Is it really this hopeless or am I missing something?
Lots of apps require at least 4.0 so being stuck on 2.3 feels really frustrating. Any tips on functional roms that aren't missing too many important features?
Wow, after the huge rage over Moto deciding to leave the Atrix behind and all the dozens of threads about that, there are still questions like this?

I started using smart phones two years ago. It took me quite awhile to discover the Atrix, so you could say I missed out on that outrage. I just bought a used Atrix and had hopes of updating it to at least 4.0 but it seems difficult to achieve, despite that a long time has passed. Can it really be that hard to get the recording to work?
Yes, it actually can. Reason being non-existent drivers for proprietary hardware. Sadly this device has been discontinued, despite its great hardware potential, and there is and will be no support for it past GB. So we're left with having to "invent", figure out and piece together stuff on our own.
It's all explained in great detail in many other threads.

Okay, I can buy that, makes sense.
Well, I've managed to find at least some roms at 4.0 and above, so I will try out the most promising ones, starting with AvatarRom and AtrICS. Functionality over "better stats" and all that. And then move on from there. Taking photos and recording is something I do on a regularing basis so it's vital that those parts actually work as intended, other parts I might overlook easier.

AtrICS yes, Avatar no due to their servers being jacked up and the ROM not available (disregard if they actually did get that ROM back up). Krystian's CM9 and Epinter's CM10.1 are your heavy hitters that really are worth looking into for a 4.0 and up experience.
If you want the video and picture quality, you can use the Alpha stage ROMs suggested above, otherwise best advice is stay on GB until more kernel work is done.
Per the first complaint (see thread name), doing this thing called research would have told you what @ravilov mentioned. You say you got into smartphones 2 yrs ago. The Motorola ICS debacle happened Sept 29th-ish, 2012. Thats within 2 yrs, and that was a big backlash they suffered.

I actually found the AvatarRom, albeit not on their homepage but linked from the forum to some other download source. However, that rom didn't work out very well for me. AtrICS seemed complicated due to me not understanding the whole "vendor" thing they mentioned, so I decided to skip that one entirely. After trying out several roms I went back to CM 7.2 since that at least made the phone function quite good (except one app that seems to have a model specific bug in it).
I'll take a look att Krystian's alternative, whatever it's called. Epinter's seemed to have camera issues?
About "getting into smartphones two years ago": At that time, I nearly hated smartphones, which is why I didn't read very much about them (and therefore, I missed that "why no ICS?"-rage). Just because something "big" happens doesn't mean everyone will know about it. Yes, it's okay to ask me which rock I've been sleeping under. However, I can't point out the rock now, I've forgotten where it was.

Really? now that is interesting. I wonder if they just restored the link and didn't update their page. idk, ppl have been having issues with the creators of Avatar ROM for weeks now about getting their stuff in order. AtrICS isn't hard to understand. Flash main ROM, then flash Vendor. Its like any CM ROM. Flash main ROM, then flash Gapps. Same concept. CM7.2 (GB) is going to give you the most stability and fully functioning ROM for this device. until the 3.1.10 kernel is given the Beta status, all 4.0 and up ROMs are considered Alpha stage if they use said kernel.
Krystian's CM9 is 4.0.4 running on the 3.1.10 kernel. Epinter's is 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 running the same. all 4.0 and up ROMs will have camera issues due to the need for updated drivers. drivers we don't have b/c Moto refuses (not worth fighting for anymore) to release them.
The ICS mess happened a yr ago. but yes, I do see your point. for example, these galaxys that keep coming out. I see news about them, but I don't go looking at them or reading the news about them.
AtrIcs is somewhat a stable rom with just few issues like average battery timing and sometimes lag in screen lock.Only thing i love about AtrIcs is stock look of moto . Currently i am on Epinter's Cm 10.1 it's also worth trying especially with motoblur theme from play store it's a treat to have Atrix on stock moto look with jb.
