[POLL][Q] AOKP vs CM9 for i777? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

In your opinion which one is better for battery life and performance? ( If you didn't use both roms then your answer is useless..)
In my opinion CM9 is better because AOKP uses more ram but i cant figure out about the battery life.
Choice 1: AOKP
Choice 2: CM9
Choice 3: OTHER (Specify which rom and why is better)

I use CM9.

AOKP here, I keep switching between it and CM9 but I always go back to Tasks ROM. It's just too sexy.

For battery life there are a number of variables. Kernel, OC/UV, modem, signal strength, apps running in the background just to name a few. Every phone is different (see some phones can overclock/undervolt but others cant) and every phone will have different results.
What you need to do is have a controlled situation, as in you flash both and see which works better for you. In this case, use everything the same except the rom and see which one gives you better battery. Nobody can tell you which one is better/longer/faster... you have to try it on your phone.
This is why we dont let "vs" threads happen. Nothing comes out of it because of all the inconsistencies. Most of the times, it starts a flame war because it develops into a rom popularity thread and then someone says "I dont like the way that this rom feels" and offends someone who uses that rom and then then all hell breaks loose and then I get 50 reported posts from Miami.
Anyways, for the purpose stated above, this thread is closed. Sorry, but we just dont allow "vs" threads here.

[Q] what is the best rom so far have used ace sg ..?

here I leave a list of roms to have an idea all the roms that have come thanks to the developers .. and teams: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439516
The best i've tested go to two categories:
Performance - Ace-Of-Spades V1 (I use this currently)
Battery - RAZRv3 (since it is CM7.1 based; to me it seems battery is even better than stock)
I have not seen bugs on either of those.
I myself cant use stock roms because they have all given my phone SOD... Official stock 2.3.5 gave me like 10 SOD per day (unless i turn off both wifi and bluetooth), custom stock based roms are way better but still SOD (with gingerreal v2 i had two SOD during 1 month). I've stoped trying stock based roms because of this...
But luckily CM7, CM9, AOSP, Lewa rom... none of them have this problem.

AOS does seen to have pretty good battery usage but none of the roms that i have tested lasted as long as RAZRv3. I left my phone in the office one weekend. When i left the phone had 32% battery.. I left on friday and came back on monday and the battery was 29% with wifi active (3g not active) and that 29% lasted for a whole day and when I got home after 8 hour workday i had 12% left and the battery stats showd that i had been on battery for 5days and 2 hours. Never ever have i gotten close to that on any of the roms i've tested.
I really dont know what makes RAZRv3 so good. I'd ask in the thread but i can't since i don't have 10 posts (can't post in developers). I think it has something to do with deep sleep mode, but can't be sure....

And one think, I love all the Dev without them our Ace not become shiny ....

I'm not asking for a 'best' ROM. I'm asking which would be beneficial as a 2nd choice for emergencies, etc.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Not that different asking for a good for battery/best/etc rom. Different kernels and roms work differently on each phone, so just try them out to see which is best. For example, neak kernel is an excellent kernel recommended by a lot of people, but it really drains my battery faster compared to others.

Any, it really doesn't make a lot of difference if you want a ROM "for emergencies" as you say.
You can force the screen to the lowest brightness, throttle the CPU, use a plain black colour wallpaper and not install any apps at all on any ROM.
Btw, thread reported. No matter how you try and disguise it, it's still yet another fail thread from you. It's getting old pretty quickly.

Hydrog3n-ICS is probably one of the best Roms out there for the Galaxy S2.
It is a mixture of Cyanogen and AOKP which is pretty sick.
Its absoloutly smooth, has great features and treats your battery with care.

Battery life results

I apologize for I know that similar threads have been created but the last one is fairly old. I have mostly been running AOKP for the last few weeks but I recently tried out serendipity- I'll say that I do prefer an AOSP style rom over a samsung rom. I do like customization but battery life is a priority to me. Can someone please give some input to what rom/kernal/governors are being used to maximize battery life?
There is no simple answer to this question. All Kernels and ROMs are good - please refer to Entropy's battery drain thread for common issues affecting battery drain.
Some kernels however offer UV ability e.g. Siyah which allows u more flexibility.
Having said this I saw about the same battery life on most of the ICS roms I tried.
I am currently evaluating custom GB roms to see if the battery life is better.

Thank you, I will try the fluxi kernel. I know i'm most likely only to receive an open-ended answer at best. It's just that honestly I have tried different combinations on my own without too much success

Yeah I understand that, it's just you would think that several people might say "woah hey this particular kernel has amazing bettery life!" But apparently that is not the case...

we've trained most not to say crap like that. its all dependent on user, apps, and device.
just play with them, find one that works best for you and your setup.

ROM recommendation

Hey galaxy s2 community! Just a quick question for you guys and gals. I'm ready to flash a ROM on my phone and I think I've narrowed it down to ether aokp or shostock2. I'd like to stick to ics now that the i777 has official ics (more stable and better features) so I think I may wait like a month. I'm looking for something fast (I like showing off my quadrant scores to my HTC fan boy friends) and stable, a good battery life would be great=). Can you help me choose between aokp and shostock2? And don't turn this into a war guys=) we all know they're both amazing ROMs, I just want to know which has better battery life and stability, speed is a nice bonus=) thanks!
I come from a captivate with darkyrom if that tells anyone what kind of ROM I like=)

You could dual boot them using the siyah kernel. If you choose to do that download the version WITH mic swap, and try them both without flashing back and forth.
try both and see which works best for you.
As noted... no ROM fits everyone.. try a few, and see which works best for YOU.

what did you do with your rooted phone?

so i rooted my phone with UCLE5 and put the Siyah v343 kernel. but now what? i spent the last 2 days researching to successfully do this for speed improvements and what not. but i dont really see any differences in speed, or any differences at all. any suggestions on what i can do now because my phone looks the exact same way as it did before the root or what did you guys do after a root to make it seem like i actually rooted the phone.

If you dial *6969# naked girls come to where you are..... You need to flash a CUSTOM ROM you're on a stock ICS ROM you need to read a lot more go to the DEV section those are all custom ROMS.... For an instant change go to the play store and install Apex launcher.

If you're on stock ics (the official release) and someone told u there are speed improvements they lied. Any custom rom easily blows stock out of the water. Stock ( even when rooted) is basically for people who want to play it safe and for things to just work. If u want customization and speed ur best bet is an AOSP based rom. Good luck. Happy flashing.

Hey, since you came from the Gnex can you please tell me if the battery life is actually better or worse than your previous phone? No issues with Battery life in all honesty. I can use for over 12 hours with constant use and it holds out without complaint. I couldn't say the same with the stock rom but I never really buy these handsets for stock use. I enjoy testing roms too much

hmm i was specifcally told not to flash AOSP roms . btw do you know if that will improve battery life as well. since i updated to official ICS from kies my battery dies really quick. quick meaning if i sleep with battery around 50-60%, i wake up after 7 or 8 hrs, and my battery is dead. im not sure exactly when it dies, but im pretty sure this is a flaw.
