I'm currently on the CM9-based ICS ROM...and it still works fine as an everyday device. I feel I get about the same battery life on both those rom's and stock fw.

If you want everything to function correctly and stable and gingerbread go with collective un-official. This thread has the most random chatter not based on bug questions. This tells me that the ROM is very stable and people do not have to post about issues as much.

Saurom requires like 10 minuites of effort by you know what? Read the instructions carefully and you'll have one of the best att note roms to date.
Also my battery life has increased about 10-15% I now get about 4hrs and 30 mins of screen time when before I was getting about an hour less!
Worth the try.
ALSO don't ask any questions because its not that hard to install everything can be searched

I like stock with root.
People are saying good things about the latest XXKI4.
KI3 with jkay installed is good for me right now.
Having said that I'm using different launcher,contact/dialer,messaging.
Battery and performance has been great.

I have been through flash after flash with custom rom at the end i go back to stock. Has been stable ever since. I like the KI3 and currentlt just flashed XXKI4. Just to see what the difference is between them.
I woul recommend back to stock. Just my 2c

Have not used all the ROM's that are made, but right now I'm in love with Androidmeda. It removes all the crapware, and the phone feels so quick and responsive.
Converted 3 other friends who own SGS2 onto it, and they all love it.
Criskelorom v26. Freaking awesome

I love Cognition. But I have not tried anything else.
I have tried several roms but I got the best performance/consumption with "MikiMod CarbonOcean v 5.1[KI4]".

+1.
I hate Custom ROM's frankly. Some even remove features than adding. Don't forget it's a Smartphone.
Most of the touchwiz roms are good, most are similar.
CM7 latest nightly is very good.

VillianROM is excellent. Basically stock but much more customizable.
stock now for e dont know much about android very new to it
Leo & Check's CheckROM RevolutionHD V1.0 is what I recommended. fast, long and cold.

As far as stability and usability goes, I don't think you can beat imperium initiative. Its amazing and completely underrated... As for me I can't stay away from cm9 for some reason. Camera pisses me off sometimes but whatever, things get more promising with every release.
I love threads like this as a newcomer to this phone it helps me know which ones to consider I can't vote yet I guess until I upgrade May 1st

That's all gonna depend on what you want. Do you want GB or ICS leak. If ya wanna stick with GB. Then saurom is the way to go. I ran it since it came out with great results. As far as ICS there are several great ROMS all with different features. Id read through the dev section and see what your personal preference is!

Go for it.. You wont regret
there are to many now to say.
only1 is super smooth, the collective roms are ALL stable as ****, aokp and cm9 are pretty good for what they are. cm9 was a little more stable than aokp when i was using it.
i dont even think about GB anymore...so i could not give you my OP on those as this moment.
I've been running ICS leak ROMs since they first surfaced around early April. I honestly must say that the Unofficial CM9 build is perhaps the best ROM I have used. It's pretty fast, and other than a few annoying bugs (none of which are show stopping), It's pretty awesome. That would be my rekommendation.

Hey guys I just purchased this one for my mother who is new to smart phones. I want to ask which rom is best for battery life and is stable? I searched on this forum and people were saying ICS Passion but that was a year or two ago and I saw that it is no longer supported. It was be awesome if you guys could recommend me a rom since my mom isn't much of a flash-a-holic so I don't want to flash each and every rom to test it for a day or two.
Thanks for the help.
*As compared to stock.
Since she's new to smartphones, I'd suggest a Froyo ROM. They have great battery life and simple to use interface. I can't say specifically which Froyo is better because I have JB. (Which I don't recommend for newbies.)
Well unfortunately the problem is almost every ROM is no longer coming out with new builds because they have moved on to new things. This means that they are all working on 4.2.1. Yet cm10 and hellybean are both very stable 4.1 ROMs. This is what I am running at the moment
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
I have a hard time believing someone actually recommended Passion.
I would go with either bionix (froyo) cm7 stable build or cm10. Don't flash a ICS ROM, you run the risk of EU bug.

I love our somewhat reliable/stable JB ROMS (thank you, XDA Devs!!) But losing stock Note functionality with S-Pen (double-tap for S-Memo, press and hold for screen capture, Photo Editor) always kept me running back to stock Touch Wiz. I was a flash-ahloic til something I did broke GPS and made it unusable. So I Odin-ed back to stock and still couldn't get GPS working. Eventually, I took my Note to the AT&T Device Support Center and they flashed the most current Samsung Firmware and I'm good to go. I've been Stock, non-rooted for 28 days, 11 hours and minutes LOL.
So I've resisted even rooting my Note at this point. Just been playing around with different launchers and widgets. It's still fun just customizing the Note to my liking. But I found that lags and freezing still even happen on Stock non-rooted, things I used to blame on any particular ROM I'd flashed.
Now the flash addiction is creeping up on me...

Just an update:
So I ended up flashing Jellybam and what a joy that ROM was! So many customization options and it just ran smooth. That is until I got a Random Reboot.
So then I flashed Paranoidandroid, put on LMT and found that it didn't work as well as I'd hoped as a replacement for Swipe Pad. Anyway, I proceeded to customize it to make it my daily driver when RR strikes 4xs in an hour.
At this point, I go running back to ICS: Novena. I dig the boot animation and that ROM has always been solid for me. And of course everything performs flawlessly: no RRs and great battery life.
But am I content? LOL
Lurking in the Blackstar Dev thread, I read about the combination of X and Flappjaxx ICS 3.0.2 kernel.
Getting to the point of this post:
That combination is AMAZING! And not in the hyperbolic sense. TRULY AMAZING!
This feels as fast as any JB ROM I've tried. Tho I'm not OC/UV, I'm only using Wheatley and battery life is PHENOMENAL!
So I'm still enjoying my "OG" Note and glad that we have a sharing community in XDA forums and gifted dev support, but if we never get any new ROMS for the lack of a source JB kernel from Samsung, I'm now on my Daily Driver.
Holla back if this combo works for you too.

I don't know what will happen if you do that, but BSX is an ICS ROM and won't be compatible with a JB kernal. I recommend installing goo.im from the Play Store and search for Flappjaxxx in there: results will show his ROMs and kernals. Good luck!
