[Q] Loading rom freezzzzz up on wsod - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok - Yes, noob on xda... Not noob to rooting - droids - etc. With that out of way I am new with vivid.. I have wcx wild child root, unlocked, with teather/no beats. I have done as much searching as I can which has brought me to here. I typically do not like asking questions and figure it out on my own but wild child is new to me and i'm not sure what i'm doing.
Here is what i've done. I found two different "beats" roms to isntall. One is for CWM which i am fimiliar with but when I try to get it to load my vivid sticks on the HTC white screen of death. So, I've seen posts saying CWM isn't done for the vivid? Is this still correct? So the other method says rumraider, I have them both downloaded but cannot find "rumraider" to use for loading.
Sorry if my questions are nooblike but I'm a little stuck on this one if you can help. Also, I cannot post where I thought this was better fit and this seemed like a good next place to start. Any help would be greatly appriciated, or if beats isn't possible then another good EQ app would be helpful.

Check the Vivid-specific Dev forum for an alternate recovery and give that a shot.

[Q] Silly girl who loves cool stuff needs help with her vibrant!

hello everyone, im a newbie to this who idea of rooting phones and making them do what u want, and i must say it turns me on hahaha jk anyways i have no technical knowledge and was wondering if u fine gentlemen could tell me whats the best way o root my phone or if i can pay someone in my area to do it for me and add new stuff to it like the one click lag fix n stuff like that. please help thanks guys!
You should start off with this thread:NOOB GUIDE: HOW TO ROOT/ODIN/FLASH/RECOVER ** 04/28/11 W/ Videos **
It's always better to understand what you're doing to your phone before you attempt to do anything (no one wants to permanently damage their phone).
Well you picked a good phone to learn on lol, the vibrant is by far the easiest to root/flash custom roms on.There are basically 3 things you need. superoneclick on your PC, rom manager on your phone and the rom you want to flash.
But as stated above you def want to read up just to make sure you know what you are doing, but its not difficult at all! The link posted above should def explain everything. Also if you ever run into a problem, just google the problem lol i am usually able to find a link to a thread on here explaining how to fix it GL!
I kinda got in the habit of rooting via Z4root app on my phone after using odin to go back to android 2.1 (eclair). I just keep the .apk file on my SD card.
The reason I did this was because while odin is an annoying and buggy program to deal with, it is the only way to truly reset your phone to stock if you mess something serious up. It is a fail-safe of sorts so it is worth it to familiarize yourself with that process.
The "noob guide" posted should outline what you need to flash back to stock 2.1 which is odin (duh), a .pit file, and a .tar zip file.
I go back to 2.1 since z4root I believe has to be used on eclair? I could not get it working on stock 2.2 froyo at any rate.
once your phone is rooted the fun part begins from there you can download many different rom zip files which are available in the vibrant development section. General rule of thumb is to always FLASH ROMS at 100% battery.
Head to the market and pick up Rom Manager and Titanium Back up. Open rom manager once you have a rom downloaded and "reboot into recovery" (to manually flash a rom) press volume keys to select "reinstall packages", wait, then reinstall packages again. This should now be the green clockwordmod (commonly referred to as cwm) recovery menu. Scroll down to "install from zip", "choose zip", "download", select the rom you downloaded, yes, go back, reboot system.
The phone will take awhile to boot up, when it does let it SIT FOR TEN MIN. This is to help iron out any bugs. Reboot the phone. Sign into google and restore apps if you saved them in titanium back up. Reboot again just for good measure
If you decide to flash a different KERNEL than the one that comes with the rom, you don't have to be at 100% battery, just go into cwm and flash the kernel zip like you would a rom.
When not flashing from stock it is recommended that you:
-factory/data reset
-install rom
-clear cache partition
-advanced> clear dalvik cache
All while in cwm.
Remember to hit the "Thanks" button to the creator of the ROM / KERNEL / THEME / APP you apply.

Hey hun.
You picked a good phone to start learning about those things.
The Vibrant is extremely easy to root and do pretty much everything.
Just keep in mind these two things: Follow the instruction PRECISELY and unless it's absolutely necessary, do NOT use ODIN.
At least not at first, after you get a handle of your phone, you can start experimenting.
Also, when flashing ROM/Kernels, etc, read the comments first for issues that might surface.
As they say, always read the OP completely, then do what you need
EDIT: LOOOOOOL
Can't believe I fell for a troll.
Geez, I sure have been away from the internet forums for too long...
Just google rooting a samsung vibrant. You can also find out how to do it all over this forum. Plus roms pretty much install them selves now once you have everything set up... Read in to it about and you will find its super easy.

I was using androidflasher.zip and I put radio.img in the "radio" box but i also had another .img in the zip folder I downloaded with the radio it was called mdm9k.img so I put that in the radio box and right when I clicked flash BOOM hardbrick.. phone wont respond to anything.. no lights no recovery/bootloader.. NOTHING.. the phone wont even charge or respond to me plugging it in to my computer.. I still have a warranty but REALLY dont feel like going through all that.. any easier methods?
First question why use a program to flash a radio when Hboot is simple, fast, easy, and built in. Wow people surprise me, if something does not make sense don't do it. You are now the proud owner of a fancy paper weight, well fancy looking it does the same thing as a rock.

I did answer it for you, there is nothing you can do I saved you time waiting for an answer just as good as mine. If you don't like it that is life. Do what ever you can to get a new phone and use Hboot with that phone or just don't even root it, you don't seem to know what you r doing.

time to use your warranty
#1 I am sure the developer made a program that worked fine, have I used it no I used one better stock Hboot.
#2 Did you use the program wrong, I am going to say yes since you carelessly put a file in the radio box that you were not even sure went there.
#3 Is my phone working cause I know what I am doing, well I am typing on it now so who is the smarter one of us? I will give you a penny for your paper weight.....final offer.

hmm.. well lets see i downloaded a RADIO from xda and inside the zip file were the two files i flashed under RADIO because that IS what I downloaded.. but yeah Im the stupid one.. i should have put it in some other checkbox that didn't say RADIO.. i should have just put it in the bootloader checkbox or something.
Did you try a battery pull? If you can at least get it to boot into bootloader, you may be able to reflash the radio.
Not sure, because I've never used the app your talking about.
Anyways, good luck.
You broke it, don't drive the prices up for the rest of us by doing a warranty claim! Use your insurance.

Never heard of it but it looks like AndroidFlasher uses fastboot to flash radios for several different devices.
So for a brick one of these is probably the case
1) the radio you downloaded was wrong
2) AndroidFlasher doesn't take into account multiple radios for Thunderbolt so the wrong radio was flashed to the wrong location
I talked to the developer he said you are the only one who did this process wrong. So yes you are the dumb one. Go ask him what you did wrong. Please stop trying to make yourself any smarter or someone else's fault.

Hey bro!
First of all, let me clarify for the XDA world, it doesn't seem to me that you are "DUMB". In fact, I don't think we need to even tell people these things. On the opposite side, we all do "ignorant" things at times. Please don't get offended that I say the word, "ignorant"? All ignorance means is that you did or did not do something without knowledge or experience. Ignorance does not claim that you are dumb. The word "dumb" is defined by Webster as, "Lacking the power of speech". Evidently, that is not what you are doing! In fact, you were trying to do the opposite!
Sincerely, I have done many ignorant things in my life. So, I am not sure that you will be able to fix your phone, but I hope and pray that you do get it fixed. Keep your head up and don't be afraid to fail. You are doing more than many people! Those who do not take risks fail because they accomplish little.
Living by Faith in Christ,
Ryon Lee Adcock
there are some few options for saving you from a hard brick. I got my SGS saved from that kind of stuff! What's your device?

Edit'd.
Dear OP,
Looks like Grnlantern79 did your homework for you!
I took a pretty good chunk of time to compile a beginner's Q&A thread that answers virtually every beginner question. As Einstein said, the difference between stupid and genius is that genius has it's limits (as in, stupid has NO limits). I think I speak for every developer out here when I say it's impossible to predict how "ignorant" a potential user is going to be. There's a very real expectation that guys like you are going to school themselves on some basic things. To not assume that puts a LOT of explanatory work on guys like Grnlantern79, myself, and others, that's simply not needed for the VAST majority of folks out there.
I've been bumping around the Tbolt forums for a while now. I can't recall ever seeing anything describing what you attempted to do. I know you didn't find it in any radio thread here, on Rootzwiki, or teamBAMF.com, which are the only places that have respectable radio listings. Clearly you didn't read my thread either. In fact, you somehow managed to avoid a tremendous wealth of information!
The answer to your question is you're SOL. It's that simple. You did at least two stupid things, probably more, and it can only be accounted for by deliberately avoiding/neglecting knowledge. First, you didn't check the MD5. An MD5 is ONLY valid when it's checked on the root of your SDcard. Second, you had no idea what software you were dealing with; either the radios or this flash utility. Bad radio flashes, even through hboot, will brick your device. They are NOT recoverable. Even if you'd done whatever you were trying to do correctly, your neglect of verifying the file could have bricked it.
So, when you get your new device, I HIGHLY recommend reading my thread and following the directions to the letter. I can promise you that you will not accomplish anything more with what you were (possibly) trying to do than what I've laid out already using well tested and highly reliable means.
And with all due respect, please do some reading around here. Between XDA and Rootzwiki, you will learn almost everything you'll ever need sans the дезинформация.

[Q] Overclock HTC Legend

Hi guys,
I have just successfully installed Cyanogen 7.1 on my Legend. I've been searching a little here and there regarding configurations, clocking & such. Found this very clear guide on how to overclock a Legend:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794829
However, when I navigated to Settings-> CyanogenMod settings-> Performance-> CPU settings
I found a built in option to set both max & min CPU frequency......so I'm wondering, is it still needed to follow the guide I linked or can I overclock the phone by just changing the CPU frequencies in the menu I found?
Yeah, you could do it your way, but with overclocking, you'll be finding yourself switching back and forth often.
Use SetCPU. It's not free on the market, but free for XDA forum users.
So I fixed SetCPU on the phone, but I have absolutely no clue how to use it (I'm quite the newb when it comes to this). Is there any guide on how to use the application? Perhaps even for Legend specifically?
Also, is there a point in chaning my kernel version?
Right now, and I never changed it, I have:
2.6.32.17
What's not to understand in SetCPU? Tap autodetect and set your clocks. If you're unable to perform such a task, then don't even try to overclock.
Sent from my HTC Legend using xda premium
There's a whole lot not to understand when seeing the application for the first time. And IF there would be a guide, catching up and understanding the application would go faster.
I'm sure you were new to overclocking at some point aswell cyRq. Or perhaps you're a born OC-genious?
Anyway, I managed to figure out how to use it.
Actually I've had a couple of awards/points on hwbot.org if you're really asking me about OC...
A genius? Not really. But I obtained a magical skill called reading (sometimes I can even write).
But seriously...good to hear that you've managed to figure things out. Good look and don't smoke your phone.

What's wrong with this guide???
Sometimes I wonder what would happen to this society in time. People fortunate enough to have everything at their disposal act as they were blind, def and cripled. Pitty.
I thought the purpose of a Q&A section is for dumb people to ask dumb questions? If you don't agree with/can't handle that without spamming question marks & express your fear of future society, then why bother to look in these threads at all?
I never saw the guide you reffered to, and obviously I already knew from the start that there is guides out there. I was asking if any kind soul had the power to link a good one. I could've searched for & found a guide myself, hell I learnt the goddam application without one.
I was asking for a friendly advice is all.
zzzzzzzzzZ(z)
--> oh, & calm down :X cool senior members acting all arrogant, now that's a pitty
Spam is yours... repeating the same question over and over again. I answered you clear and simple with a link to a guide that has been there since I don't remember how long.
Q&A is definitely not storage for duplicate questions. And I certainly don't see any arogance in my answer which I'm sure will help someone.
Alright alright. In the end it comes down to me not wanting to sabotage my phone by lack of experience.
Your post was helpful, however slightly spiced with condescension. But that's alright, my bad for expecting anything else on the internet.
I lay down my sword
I put "setcpu" into Google's search box and 1st hit was that guide...
Sent from my HTC Legend
Okok, once again I stand corrected.
Don't worry mate, I knew it was a lazy question. And as I wrote earlier; I am aware that there is a whole bunch of guides for setcpu out there. My only thought was that there might be some specific configurations for HTC Legend alone that could be made, and perhaps there would be a guide for that. Which is the reason for why I opened this thread under HTC Legend section in the first place.

I'd like to start a new thread for basic Atrix information. Kind of a Q and A thing.

Eg ...

Most of that information is horribly horribly outdated. Example, not being able to flash att software on a bell or international atrix. I' ve done it a hundred times. Even lots of pre-bootloader unlock information is still posted as "the way to go".. This thread is a great way to breathe new life into the atrix, relevent ,updated questions and answers , and new working links being one asset. I for one, have some very complex questions and the "noob" info just ain't gonna cut it. I'm starting off simple but I am an advanced android user just new with the atrix and I need to ping-pong and brainstorm with other users at the same level and figured this was a great way to troll the xda site for those more advanced users. And I know the thread will grow because if I'm asking these atrix hardware specefic questions surely there are many others that would like to know the same. If I'm in any way wrong, I'm sure a moderator on the worlds most informative cellular reference site will take this thread down..

Swiftks wrote the N00B guide quite some time ago before he was a forum moderator, and yes, a lot of the information in it is outdated now.
We have a Q&A section, which is where you posted this. If you would like an updated N00B guide then you will probably have to create one yourself, as I doubt Swift has the time to go through and update his. Posting a thread where people ask questions which are then answered in the thread will just cause things to end up being buried deep within pages of one thread. That's why there is a whole Q&A section. New questions are visible, and it's easier to search for already answered questions.
Additionally, any questions you ask have probably already been asked and answered, and on top of that, any answers you put in here may at some point become outdated also, and who will moderate keeping everything up to date in this thread. Much easier to just have the Q&A section which currently exists.
Oh ok .. my bad.. I was probably being a little greedy trying to create one place that had somewhat updated information and especially links.. kinda all in one spot newish. I definitely see your point but figured with some of the silly-fun posting, like ban the one above you, the forum could afford the hard drive space with another thread.. I can abandon the thread if everyone feels it should be... one thing for sure there wouldn't be any megaupload links in it, *yay* lol
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
Also, the problems I am having no one seems to have a straight answer.. bp issues seem to be taboo, and subject has been barely touched.. once I resolve these issues im having, my activities in the ATRIX forum will be pretty much helping other users with the information i've learned along the way to getting this horribly ota messed up 'trix up,running, and stable..
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
Oops.. I see what might have happened here. I made a mistake in using the wrong terminology. I didn't mean a new thread, I just meant the subject within the q&a thread. . Not sure but does that seem to make more sense caelant? Bottom line, I'd like to be able to come to xda/Motorola atrix/ q&a/,, I dunno, "q&a/atrix woes" for example, for new up to date information/links on problems that many people seem to be having at this time. . Problems such having to boot in no BP mode, ext 3-4 questions, more info on the recovery menu with the early usb enumeration option and such and what do all the options in there do and how to use them, file system layout, heat issues, basically problems that I see others are having as well lately.. I'm not lazy or anything, lol, I just think that if I kept all my findings restricted to this one area I'm in now , myself, and other atrix owners would greatly benefit... I have concentrated a lot of my time into each and every android device I've ever worked on, and theres quite a few and I must say this frickin atrix is the trickiest yet.. I love it though and can't put it down I've brought a few black screens back to life and this atrix o/s was damaged by an incomplete/completely botched ota update from bell froyo to GB then back to froyo.. My specialty you could say is finding the weirdest most improbable obstacles in everything I do and overcoming them. I like this atrix, even though the touch screen feels like an old lg gw620 eve,...lol (again). I have come a long way with the bricked unit I was dropped off and believe I can go a lot further if I stay right here.. I am more than willing to share and brainstorm my findings on this project with all the fine atrix users here on xda.. if I'm outta line , please people speak up..I think this whole idea can do no harm, and can only see positive results. I dunno, flame me people if I'm mistaken.. All the typing I've already done here I could of solved all the issues and shared the information. I know i could be a real asset to many Motorola users along with a few other manufactured brands here on xda....I'm new here but nit at the game.. seems this area is already getting polluted with my explaining my actions, which is exactly what I wanted to get away from. I do over explain don't i....but I do like to try to be thorough.. Grin.. cheers guys.. let's let majority rule..
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
Not trying to flame you. I just see a Q&A thread in a Q&A forum as kind of redundant.
My advice would be search for any relevant threads and post in the thread specific to your issue/problem. If there is nothing that is quite the same as your issue/problem, then just create a new thread. I think one of the main things is making sure the thread title clearly states what the thread is about, and make sure to state it is not the same as any similar problems you have found in searches.
Also a good idea to mark a thread as [SOLVED] when it has been, and also make sure to post in the thread what the resolution was so others can see it.
Excellent , very well stated.Keen outlook you have I will admit.,I assumed as much looking over your busy post history. I wouldn't go as far as saying redundant though considering you must assume I have searched for the relevant information I need prior to even thinking of opening this subject "sub thread", (for lack of a better word), I'm just getting a little frustrated with this particular phone because I feel its all about this BP issue and I can't, for the life of me anywhere find much BP information about the atrix. You'd think with such options in the volume down boot menu as the trix has there'd be tons of information on repairing BP issues considering there's 4 or 5 options directly related to it in that fast boot menu.. Between trying to isolate applications and processes which are causing random/frequent reboots and repairing this BP error I must say I'm almost at wits end. Perhaps if you had these problems you might see that pertinent information is next to nill and very vague totally irrevelant or just pkain amature.. I really respect your advice and thank you for it, I can tell you also have a sharp mind, I'm just having a little trouble understanding why you wouldn't support an area, any area where dead links , outdated information, and general chit-chat about unrelated topics would be at a minimum. I'm so fed up of wading through mega-dead-load links, unrelated questions , and inexperienced advice. I don't have the time for that and its looking endless.. I've only had one brick in my repertoire, an x10, and it died mysteriously in my wifeys purse, and patience is running thin for me. I don't want to give up on a phone and throw it in the parts drawer, one that I've brought back to life and is scoring 4000 ish in quadrant scores, but I've been searching for about two weeks now and I've found next to nothing valuable besides a few nice fastwipe scripts. Really zero information on what I know is a common enough problem . What does everyone do, just junk such an intriguing piece of equipment? I'd Hate to say , sometime down the road, I used to have an atrix, worked well now and then, but there was one problem I just couldn't beat. That's gonna eat me up.. while it runs and doesn't reboot it makes my tweaked out infuse look silly and is Running close to my s2. I'm just about out of energy on this one. Has no one in the world fixed or even explored repairing BP issues? Thanks for listening caelent but let's not state the obvious.

Anyways, turns out my atrix touchscreen, for whatever reason is confirmed to be broken. Was worth a try.. I hope this isn't the case with all the other users. Sorry guys.. I'll have to find me another one , but they're pretty scarce around here. Later people.. was fun trying..

[Q] SmoothBean troubles [ URGENT]

Hi all
I recently signed up on XDA.Don't get me wrong,I'm an intermediate android user.
Anyhow,I'm using nobles smooth bean ROM,and when I run certain apps, there's a black static screen, continuous audio and then I have to close the app.I NEED a solution by Thursday,as I need the gtab good for a project ( App I'm using has the problem.)
Thanks in advance
Daveed2
You're going to need to tell us what the app is.
Secondly, putting deadlines on devs isn't going to help your case. If you need to do real work, get a fully supported device. Such is the nature of hacking - it's an imperfect art. If you can use an older rom, I would suggest doing that instead, as they are more stable.

I didnt mean anything,but I wanted a quick answer
Im using the base MX Media player and Quickoffice. (Side note,FIFA 12 experiences the issues too)
Welcome to the forums. First things first, questions go in the Q&A forum, I am sure a mod will move it but remember next time so you get faster response.
Same problem as yours:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966774
which leads me to 2nd point, SEARCH first. Not trying to be rude, trying to keep the mods from having to school you, and trying to help. when threads get clogged its harder to find good info. Please dont take any of this the wrong way, we really try to help around here.
I searched for my problem already and came up with that thread. Our problems arnt similar. His slows then cuts to a pitch black.Mine gives static then occasionally reboots.Yet sound isnt affected.I tried noble's advice and it didnt work, same problems, which lead me to post here.
I would suggest reinstalling from scratch, and by the book. I would also add the step of formatting /system just in case. I found that without that, my /system folder was maxed out, though it shouldn't be... don't know why that happened the first time.

Smoothbean 11-15-12 Release
I want to thank Nobe for his work. For the first time since Froyo (and in two years of using Android) I have an advanced version of Android on my Gtab that really works smoothly. I have been running it for nearly a week and have only seen one, maybe two slowdowns and they both cleared after a moment or two on their own.
Everything appears to work. While I haven't tried Bluetooth, I have no reason to believe I'll have issues.
Again, Nobe, thanks, I will click the "Thank You" button today.
