Which Ultra-Slim Case Has the Tallest Lip? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I'm looking for an ultra-slim case that has the tallest lip to protect the display. I'd like to add a Glas.t screen protector, but that adds to the screen's height.
The choices so far are the Rearth Ringke Slim, the Elago Slim, and the Incipio Feather. From what I've read, the Elago may be the best choice. Can anyone who's tried all of these weigh in?

I had the elago but returned it. It didn't have a lip. It also only had three corners protected because one is open for the intl radio.
Also, the top and bottom were 'open' and where I put my pinky finger to cradle the phone one handed hit the case funny.
I'm still carrying naked but ordered a cheap one off amazon
I'll get that Tuesday and report back

It seems like most of the tpu cases have a lip to protect the screen. What's the thinnest tpu case? I've seen the 0.2mm one on ebay, but it' does not have a lip.

Ringke SLIM
Has a small lip across the top and bottom of the case. Minimal bulk, with just enough lip to keep it off a flat surface. Coupled with the screen protector it comes with, it's good protection for laying it face down on most surfaces.

Elago OK!
Saw the earlier feedback, but for what it's worth... my Elago G4 slim has allowed my device to survive four (!) drops so far. I'm very pleased with it, and especially like the feel and "grip-ability" of the case.... which was NOT related to my drops (instead, these were due to my overly "friendly" DOG!... LOL).

From reading other posts, it seems that the Elago has a taller lip than the Incipio, but I haven't read or seen a direct comparison of the Elago and the Rearth. I have read that the Rearth is thinner/lighter than the Elago, but you can tell that the Elago's lip covers more surface area around the display (top & bottom vs both sides).

Just ordered this one in clear/white. The pics looked like it had a lip. I should get it tomorrow. It better have a lip or it's goin back. Just looking for some grip. Not expecting any protection. I'll report back when received.

I ordered that one in black, too. It's really hard to tell from the pictures, but I don't think it has a lip. But for $2.99, I'll keep it anyway.

It does not have a lip what so ever, it snaps/clips to the "chrome" accent around the phone and leaves the plastic bezel surrounding the screen vulnerable and exposed.
EDIT: I also had to enlarge the top noise cancelling mic hole as it was cut slightly too much to the left and blocked it.

of course it doesn't. Oh well. Really like the note naked anyway. Been without a case for a couple days and I'm really getting used to the feel. Does it at least add some grip? Btw...love how At&t made sure to have a cut out for their logo on that screen protector!

Yes it adds a grainy grip, but it also feels slippery after using the phone with a gel TPU case. If that makes sense
I would have not really chosen that screen protector, but it came already installed on the phone. Never look a gift horse in the mouth

Just got the case(or lack there of). Really like how you can barely tell it's there. It offers no protection whatsoever, but I do like the feel. The fit is almost perfect(just a little off on the top). It also hides the rocker buttons from my wandering fingers, so that's nice. I'm hoping the grip gets better with time and not worse...we will see. At least it was only 3 bucks.

The matte black looks cool. However, is it just matte on the back and glossy on the front lip?

Yup. It actually works quite well appearance wise. The gloss actually provides some grip to it around the edges while the matte backing allows the phone to slip in and out of pockets seemlessly.

From pictures, it looks like this case is at least twice as thick as the Elago Slim or the the Rearth. You can zoom into the pictures on Amazon and look at the area around the camera lens on the back of the phone. It's not a perfect method, but it does help to show how much bulk a case is going to add.

(19.50+2.98 S+H) Galaxy Note Aluminum Bumper Edges only REVIEW!

Alright While I was looking for a metal bumper I stumbled upon this one on Amazon.
It's shipped from California not Hong Kong/ China So you get to skip on that super long wait.
It Fits I717 and the N7000
I've Received my Bumper it took about 2 days from shipping date to receive with standard shipping so that was a plus.
My thoughts so far, Even with Armor Suit on my sides and back Coupled with my Glas.t Screen protector it fits very snug.
And when I say Very snug I Mean Pretty F*cking tight.
It has sufficient padding inside the bumper so it will keep your note nice and safe.
The quality of the bumper is great! The sliding piece is smooth on the bottom so it WILL NOT Scratch your screen.
The buttons are about 50% harder to press but it is still reasonable.
I recommend this to those who love the minimalist style. Just couple it with the Glas.t and the Armor suit and your set!
Cons:
The buttons are harder to press
It's hard to remove the back cover.
Slight signal drop

I have the SZLF branded bumper case (looks the same except for the logo). I need a bumper case because of a 5000mah battery & humped replacement back cover. The power button and volume rocker are harder to push because they are recessed. I really like the power button being recessed because now my phone NEVER attempts to turn on by hitting a pen in my shirt pocket (come to think of it, I might be able to remove the lock screen.... I'll have to try that). I hold my note in my left hand (I'm right handed) and my left index finger easily turns the phone on and off. Using my thumb on the volume rocker takes a lot more effort/force to have any effect.
The bad: with these types of bumper cases the bottom portion of the locking hoop is kind of loose and gets looser over time (it bowed away from the phone along the bottom. The hoop just popped off for me (I've had it for 3 weeks) and I had to put a couple of small bends in it to keep it in place. The hoop may also scratch you screen or screen protector when you put it on.
i just ordered one of these as well, didnt really want to wait to get it in from HK so I guess we will see when I get it too.
I was thinking about the top scratching the screen because it looks like it slides from the bottom to attach at the top. I dont have a screen protector on it as of yet so guess I will just have to be careful.
Hopefully this case has a bit of slack since I do have the glas.t Installed. x)
So I just got mine in the mail... Thank you next day delivery ^_^
and I got to say its really nice
It fits real snugg with the glass protector
It barely even fit!!
But its really good quality and no rattles or anything lose
Only downside is that its really hard to push
Power and Volume buttons
But that's OK with me

i have been using mine for about a week now, yes the buttons are very hard to reach, but it stops me from accidentally hitting them like I always do so its ok by me.
size is 87mm x 150mm x 11.5mm
Feels very nice, though I am not sure if the OP has glass on glass or just a stick on protector, but mine seemed nice and snug with nothing on. I used a fingernail tip to go under the top edge to slide it on and keep it from touching the screen. I am very happy so far.

It wouldn't suppress the signal since The Note isn't like the iPhone 4/4S where the antenna is on the sides. Our Antenna is on the bottom portion of our phone so this case does not interfere with signal.

[REVIEW] Otterbox Commuter Case (w/ Screen Protector) for Galaxy Note

Otterbox Commuter Case
Samsung Galaxy Note

Before I begin...
Otterbox is renowned for their premiere armor-like phone cases. I have owned many phones and two of which I put Otterbox phone cases on. Outside of Otterbox cases, I have tried countless cases at a variety of prices and quality. Some cases are pretty good, but none have the same appeal, protection, and reputation that Otterbox does. Upon unboxing the Otterbox commuter case, I discovered both international and US versions of the phone screen protectors. And, in the photos I have uploaded, you'll see that I actually have the international Note screen protector instead of the US version. I'll explain later...
Both Otterbox cases I have owned (Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy Note) are very similar to each other. Even though my Atrix had a Defender case and the Note now has the Commuter case, both actually give the same feeling of protectiveness, look, and feel. When I first put the Defender case on my Atrix, I immediately knew that Otterbox will be the case for all my phones in the future. Otterbox makes a plethora of cases for many makes and models of cellular phones, so I knew that we would eventually get these bad boys. I received mine yesterday and immediately ditched my previous case for the only case my Note will have protect it again.
Also... In my opinion, Otterbox cases speak for themselves and don't need actual reviews, just someone saying, "Go buy it now. You won't regret it."
The Look...
One word to describe this case would be: Armor. The way this case looks with the polygonal insets to connect the soft silicon to the hard shell casing gives it a great look. There are slotted cross dashes on the back of the case with Otterbox's logo near the bottom. The classic sloped front fit around the screen is also present with this Otterbox case. Everything about this case is sleek, stylish, and protective. Great looking case.
Defects? What defects... There were no defects present on this case, nor were there on my first Otterbox case. I expect this type of quality from Otterbox. If anyone has experienced defects with their Otterbox case, please comment and give some insight on the customer service portion of the Otterbox company.
The Fit...
Putting this case on the phone was more trouble than I thought it would be, but I welcomed it, since every other case I had up to now had yet to give me the right fit I was looking for. After about 30 seconds of initial fitting, the case is on and the fit is amazing. The tightness of the fitting of this case is great. It gives a great secure feeling to the phone that no other case has provided.
The power buttons and volume buttons are covered by solid elevated silicone, which provides just enough resistance to where it wont accidentally be activated by walking or bumping into things from within the pocket of your pants. The 3.5mm and phone charger inputs are covered by silicone flaps that are inset into the case. Both inputs are large enough to provide the physical connections with the cords without being obstructed by the case. The spen opening is generous and allows for easy removal. The speaker has an opening through the case as well.
The protection...
Apart from the protection that the case itself provides, Otterbox provides a screen protector (for both versions of the note) as well. Pretty straight forward screen protector, two films surrounding the outer and inner surfaces of the protector. It comes with a small microfiber wiping cloth and the squeegee for those pesky air bubbles. I started with the US version of the screen protectors (duh) but for some reason, i got dust on the protector itself and it was just a mess from the beginning, so I went ahead and put the international one on. The only difference between the two protectors is the cutout on the bottom of the international one. Looks a little odd, but it works.
Conclusion...
My overall experience with Otterbox has been great. Both cases I have owned have been of the utmost quality. No other case provides me with the look, the feel, and the protection that Otterbox has given me with their cases. I am very pleased with this case and highly recommend it to anyone.
not to point fingers.... but do you work for otterbox? Just never seen someone go through so much effort on a review as far as the layout goes, if you dont work for them i think the effort is awesome.
No I don't work for otterbox... but I may have put more effort into this than I think was needed, lol

Can you take pictures of the empty case next to the note so we can see how much bulk it adds?
How sticky is it when you pull it out of your pocket?
What is the responsiveness related to the cover and the s-pen?

Ill see what I can do about the pictures. As far as the stickiness of the case... its actually pretty smooth. Comes out of the pocket pretty easily. The spen has great responsiveness to the screen with the screen protector on. No difference as far as I can tell with the screen protector.

I had an Otterbox Commuter on my late Dell Streak and it was really good but a little bulky. And it didn't have a cradle! On my Note I have Seidio Active with a kickstand and cradle, and I should say it's more elegant and compact with same level of protection. Just my two cents...

When the case is on, do you find any added resistance when putting the phone in or taking it out of your pocket? Thanks.

Honestly the three cents is inconsequential. It could have been a couple dollars more and I still would have gotten it simply because the seller is SpigenSGP (who also happen to make the best crystal clear screen protectors I've ever used), and they have a 100% seller rating.
Nice review. Any problems with dust particles on the silicon portion of the case when pulling the Note out of a pocket? With other cases that has been my experience and the look of the case decreases due to it.

you get some dust but for me it was on the outside of the case. I got my commuter off amazon for half price! I dont think it makes it bulky like the other Otter box case but it makes it have a good feel in the hand. without it the phones feels slippery.

Diztronic TPU case

Hey guys, just received my Diztronic TPU case and thought I would post up a review with some photos. I think it's a pretty awesome case, at a pretty awesome price. I ordered it for $9.90 here on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Diztronic-Fle...7TDK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1339131494&sr=8-4
I got the matte clear one, they also have matte black, matte smoke, and high gloss black versions of the case also available on amazon. Any of them would be great, but I thought the matte clear would look best on my white Note. When I ordered, I also signed up for a free month trial of Amazon Prime and got free prime shipping, which brought the case to my door in two business days for $9.90 plus tax.
Overall, I have been a fan of TPU cases since I had the Body Glove Mirage case for my Captivate. This is because they provide great shock protection, a snug fit, and still slide in and out of pockets easily even though they add a good amount of grip to the phone. For $9.90, this case is a steal in my opinion.
The case is very snug and keeps a low profile, yet it is still easy enough to remove without feeling like you're going to break your Note. The snug fit provides a very solid fit that has no creaking or shifting, and is very satisfying and reassuring to hold. The cutouts are mostly aligned perfectly, with the exception of the SPen slot, as you will see in the pics below, although it doesn't affect pulling the SPen out at all, so that doesn't take away from the case for me. The back of the case is matte finished, which provides a velvety feel that is in one word: sexy. The front lip of the case stands up from the surface of the glass, giving a lay on the table design, which is nice. Also, the front lip is made glossy, which I would prefer to be matte like the back, but doesn't bug me really and still looks nice.
Here are the photos. (I took them with my Infuse, so bear with me, haha.) :

I'm really satisfied. Probably my favorite case I've had since I started buying cases 3 phones ago for my iPhone 3G. Also the cheapest. Go figure. Haha
I was going to order either this out the cruzerlite

There was already a review earlier in which I posted about my diztronic case that I LOVE. But sweet baby Jesus!...didn't see they had different colors! I have the black/matte.
Keep us updated about how well it holds its clear look. Some clear cases tend to yellow over time. I kinda would like colors..like red, blue, purple etc. I had blue, black, purple and a clear case for my atrix. Swapped then out according to my attire and what matched lol.

Ah! Forgot about that thread. Sorry. I will keep us posted on if it yellows at all, I figured there was a chance of it but figured it will last long enough to be worth ten bucks. Haha. And yeah, I wish they had more colors too. I could really go for a translucent ICS blue...

Hey welchertc. Nice pics! Quick question... does the edge of your case have a slight bulge under the volume cutout? My case arrived today and the edges are flush all around phone except in that area.
Nice case. I mean really nice case

like the lip that it sits on if you put it face down? Now that you say it, yeah, I suppose it does, but I don't see it as that bad. I only notice it if I'm looking closely for it. Cant really feel a difference holding it.

It kind of sinks in just SLIGHTLY right under the volume rocker? Mine does that. I assumed it was from the way I hold it (thumb usually presses just under the rocker).

Yeah, mine is very slightly deformed in that spot too, mine is the black matte version.

Yeah, I have the matte black version. If you look at the screen straight on... theres a slight bulge outwards at the bottom of the volume cutout.
Its strange because there is nothing underneath the case that would cause this. No biggie... I'm just super OCD when it comes to these things . But its a $10 case... and one of the best so I can't really complain.
I emailed Diztronic yesterday... just got a reply saying they shipped out a replacement. Awesome CS! I'll see if the replacement has the same defect... wil report back.

Good to hear that their customer service is so nice. This case is awesome for $10.
On a side note, I tried coloring/dyeing my clear case blue with a dry erase marker. Now I'm trying to get all of it off. Haha. Don't ask me why I did.

I have the matte black Diztronic and love it, but I did notice that the volume area had a very slight bulge.
I also use the Glas.t screen protector, and the case did cause my screen protector to peel off a bit in the area. I simply loosened (by taking the case off and twisting and flexing the case in the volume area) and it made the case soft enough that it seemed to fit over the Glas.t in that spot no problem.
I tried three cases, and this is my fav so far. Even with the thick Glas.t screen protector, there is a bit of a lip from the case around the screen so that I could (if I wanted to..I don't) lay it screen down. Good case.

Based on great reviews from this thread, I ordered a Diztronic case from Amazon and it arrived today. It looks great (I like that it lets the phone color (white) shine through) and fits very well. I also like that it keeps the camera lens well off the table surface (my bumper case that I had was border-line in that regard).
Thanks OP for the review and pictures.
Best TPU case I have had hands down!

I bought the smoked case for my white note. Looks great and slightly thicker than the cheap s line tpu cases. Overall great tpu case.

Yeah, the clear starts to stain after a while. I didn't notice any blue from jeans...most pockets are white anyways, and I noticed some yellowing from dirt in general. I tried coloring mine blue and it turned out horribly...still works just fine, it's just bit ugly, so if anything I'm probably gonna order a smoked one in a couple weeks.

Urban Armour Gear review and pictures

My UAG case just arrived today and I'm very excited! These cases have a real industrial, well built, and good look to them. For the note 3 there are four colors to choose from Orange, black, white, and slate. I chose slate because I wanted a flat low profile look rather than the bright orange or white case. These cases sell for $34.95 with free shipping on the UAG website. But can be found cheaper on amazon sometimes.
The overall build seems to be very sturdy along the outside and had a TPU inside so the phone has a soft surface to rest against. The remodeled version of this case has cut outs for all ports and holes. The hole for the pen is very big making it easy to access. The case does come with a screen protector.. It is not the best but it works.
The power and volume rocker buttons are extremely easy to click even right out of the box. They are not too stiff nor to loose they give a satisfying click more so than the regular phone buttons.
This case is thin enough that it is still easy to hold with one hand and the sides of the case provide a honeycomb textured grip so it will not slip out of your hands. Since the case does not have a rubbery back but a more hardened texture it will not get caught in your Jean pockets and slides out nice and smoothly.
Some final touches that are nice on this case are that the back and front of the case has a raised lip in the corners so it will never sit directly on the screen or be in risk of scratching the nice finished back of the case. Also the cutout for the camera is glare free so it will not interfere with the camera at all.
Overall this case built by UAG is a extremely durable industrial looking case which will protect your phone from falls. You will more than likely have people comment on your case and ask you where they can get one as well.

Very nice review, I love my UAG case. Had it on since day one and work in an automotive shop.
Thanks man! Just came back from the gym and while I was on the treadmill I dropped my phone and it landed on the moving floor and shot off into the floor.. I didn't even bother to think twice because I knew it would be protected, which it was!

I have a tempered glass protector on. I just didn't bother installing the SP that came with the UAG. That'd be like putting a t-shirt over a bullet resistant vest for 'extra protection'
I use a black UAG case and while it looks really good and does well for protection there is one or two things I've noticed.
First (at least on the black) after having it a while it has started to show scuff marks. This is probably because I don't always set it on an even surface.
Second, I wish the hexagonal side was a bit more grippy. I know that if it were it would be harder to take out of pockets but, just personal preference.
No intention of changing cases and these issues are not enough to make me change cases. I am quite happy with UAG and will look to them first for future phone cases.
The Nilken was out of stock at amazon so I went with the tech armor. Spent some time reading, seems they all work well.

I always thought like uag looked like the end of spigen when I had the uag logo upside down lol
I just got my UAG case, the slate one, and absolutely love it and I have the wireless back and it fits quite well. I also went with a tempered glass protector and had it on before the case so I just kind of chucked the one that was sent with the UAG which was a laugh. Anyhow, I'd buy another one for my next phone in a heartbeat.
Don't hate on the included screen protector... For 1, it's actually decent. I used it until I got my tempered glass in. Second, they don't have to include the screen protector. Most manufacturers these days don't. I really like that they include it. If you tossed it then that was dumb. Always a good idea to have a spare protector around.

IMO the spigen slim armor case is probably the nicest, slimmest, case there is while still protecting your phone... I love mine. I bought a white phone and wanted to stay with white
Is there a difference between international versions and the US versions with theses cases? Like not having certain holes cut out for antennae placement

Agreed. I bought the gunmetal one for my black G3 and couldn't be happier. True to form, I dropped it last night (grumble grumble) and though the case got a tiny bit scuffed on the tumble/slide across the concrete, the phone is unaffected.

And THIN! My G3 doesn't feel any thicker than without it, and didn't lose that great stock feel the G3 has.
I'm really REALLy digging these Hyperion Titan cases. I'll have to do a review on one in a few days. Really great fit.
How much bulk does that hyperion add?
Almost none. Let me get my calipers...
According to my digital calipers, the stock devices 9.76 mm. With the case it is 13 mm.
3.24mm thicker with the case. The front lip that protects the face is probably half of that.
Here's more pics...
I just ordered the spigon hybrid case with the clear back. I'm pretty careful with my phone do don't really need a super bulky one. Here's 2 links for sites with various case for people that are interested.

Thank you for the extensive pictures. I'm debating between this one and the Spigen Slim Armor. Main thing I like in the Spigen is the little bit of plastic it puts between the volume up and the camera lens, I find myself hitting the lens by mistake a lot and I think this would help me find the volume better.
LG shows a nice looking Slim leather case but I don't see it for sale anywhere.

This might be an unanswerable question, but how sturdy is the color on the hard frame? A long time ago I had a case like this for my S3 and within a month the color on the corners of the hard plastic was starting to wear off. I've since then only used cases where the soft portion has color and the hard part is black or white.
Otherwise I've been eyeballing the Hyperion cases since they started showing up online. I like how slim they are and how they maintain the back curve of the phone.

Thanks button is for thanks man. Not an issue, folks here help me all the time, I like to help back.
I can see a thin part like that being helpful, but this looks great. BTW, I JUST noticed there is a plastic cover on the power button and volume buttons I didn't peel off. How did they ever expect anyone to notice that? Much better now!
To find the volume button I put my finger on the power button and slide up.

Seems pretty frigging sturdy. I don't think it is painted, I think thats actually colored plastic. I've got mine in a cheap holster (see the nasty red case in my first post) and no issues at all yet. I'll keep you all up to date though.
Juswanted to say, I got the Spigen Slim Armor in gunmetal from amazon for 17.99 i think? came fast.. and its been great. I'm not a fan of big cases.. and this one stays pretty true to form.. I wish i could bareback it with nothing cuz the thing looks great by itself.. but, ya know

Some users are discussing it here
So far I've tested the Spigen Slim Armour and the Cruzerlite TPU. The slim amour does do a better job of protecting the phone but I'm finding the plastic back to be to slippery for my taste one handed, where the cruzerlite doesn't slip at all but also doesn't protect as we'll.
