hi.
so i have a HTC Desire HD, on orange UK.
im running a webserver from my laptop for development purposes...
i was wondering how i can access it from another internet connection while im tethering?
(assuming my router has port 80 forwarded to the laptop) i am easily able to gain access to the web server simply by navigating to http://<my.ip.add.ress>/ from another internet connection....
how would i go about doing this while tethered to my phone? i assume it is possible, as a torrent client seems to be able to upload and download while tethered... i assume it would be something to forward internal port 80 access through to my laptop? :S
when tethered, both my laptop and phone have the same external ip address, so im assuming it would all be done through the hotspot stock app on my phone...
any useful information would be great, thanks..

Hi all,
I know we can connect to the internet using desktop connectivity with ActiveSync.
Now, I want to develop some simple WAP application and place it in my http://localhost (desktop IIS) for testing purpose. How can I browse it this site from my xda?
Anyone can help? TIA.
try http://<ip-number of Desktop PC>
It doesn't work at all. Beside, I use dial-up connection in my desktop, so the desktop doesn't have any ip before connecting to the internet, and I want to develop the application offline.
I tried to assign permanent ip address to my desktop in without connecting and it still doesn't work.
internal network
I doubt you have networked computers but here goes...
If you have a network card in your PC for networking. Then you have an IP address with this. normally "192.168.???.???" so you could use that.
Hope this may be of help ..
or http://127.0.0.1
You will need to be connected to the internet on your PC before you try to browse, or you will need to configure internet connection sharing while your xda is cradled for it to work.
Though I can't test this (no webserver running), it's gotta work:
Put your XDA in the cradle, and the go in VXutil and go to info. There, under the adapter called "Serial on USB," you should see some IP config info. The "Default Gateway" should be the IP of your machine (as your XDA sees it).
Just for kicks, mine turns out to be 192.168.55.100
I've tries http://127.0.0.1 but since my desktop computer is not network and I don't have any ethernet card installed, I cannot assign IP address to this machine?
What is Vxutil anyway?
Thanks.

I am not sure what to call this so it is difficult to search for it... what I am wondering is... can I connect my SG2 to PC via usb and use the wired internet connection that way? (For example, at someone's house who doesn't have wireless - so I am not using cell data all the time)
It's generally called reverse tethering. I found a page here on XDA that may help you do what you're wanting to do - [Tool][Windows Only][Root] Android Reverse Tethering
Here's a good example of how to set it up for XP, MAC and Vista. I assume this should apply to Windows 7 as well.

Thanks, guys. I guess I was hoping there was just some setting on the PC and another on the phone and then connect and go. I don't want to install things on on a computer I am just "visiting" for a day or two. I appreciate the quick answers though.
If the PC has a wireless card, you can use that to host an access point for your phone to connect to via wifi.
I have tried the reverse tether app on GP by jasongong and it gives me a (Kernel not supported error) on two different ROMs (spike pure ICS and resurrection remix 2). There is another reverse tethering application on the market but its paid.
I cannot possibly imagine that such a basic functionality is not available by default let alone so rare in the GP. I just need to be able to share a LAN connection through a USB cable... is there anyway or any app to do that?
when you say reverse tethering, do you mean use your pcs internet connection??
if so then sure ya just connect ya wifi to the pc, or should i say router.
There is a program you can get for the pc, called VIRTUAL ROUTER or CONNECTIFY, both of which let you turn your pc into an internet hotspot providing you have wifi, this is how i connect my 360 to get around the firewall issues for online gaming.
Hope they may help you.
I am doing this to get internet at work. Wifi is protected by a password that I cannot know. So I need to get my PC's LAN internet connection on my phone via USB. HTC has a beautiful utility for that. I don't understand why samsung doesn't have this simple functionality... :S
Hi
I used to use my Galaxy S2 (flashed with rooted android 2.3.4 ROM) as a WiFi access point with my current carrier SFR.
In the past, I had to change the access point from websfr to sl2sfr to be able to use the phone as a WiFi access point without entering the paying option. In order for that to work, I had to change the user-agent on the devices connected to the access point because PC and MAC user-agents were forbidden (for browsers... e-mail and vpn clients used to work, as well as remote desktop on port 3389 etc).
Now, it seems that they are not forbidden anymore and all ports I tried are open.
I wonder if the carrier can be notified, like iOS does on iPhone.
If so, how can the data stream processed by the connected devices be differentiated from the data stream processed by the phone?
It's summer time and I need to be able to use my S2 as a Wifi access point but I don't want to have a bad surprise when the invoice arrives.
Thanks in advance

I have an old LG phone lying around. It's currently running ICS but I can also make it run KitKat.
I want to use it as an proxy server. I've read about applications to PC that makes your home computer a proxy server that you can connect to when outside connected to public wifi to make your browsing secure. How do I set this up with my phone instead of PC? I've seen Adam Outlers video on how to turn the phone into a web server but I don't really think that's what i'm after.
Any help is appreciated!
