How to play avi? With hdmi to tv? - Motorola Droid X2

So friend. Of mine has the Droid x2 and was going to put some avi files on the SD card and get the hdmi cable to tv and play the video. Can I use es file explore or w. E file manager and put the avi files in a folder and play from that. Then would I get a media player that can play the avi file that would play on the phone but it will be on the tv
I'm sure this has been posted I looked around and found some older site and. Other forums about it but it talks about converting or using handbreak, or some other program.
So I found the media player called mobo player. So I'm guessing I can add the avi to SD card hook up the phone to the tv play from the mobo player then they should be able to watch it on the tv

I've never used the hdmi from my phone, use my laptop for that. But as i understand its an hdmi mirror, so whatever you're doing on the phone will be mirrored on the TV no matter what app you are using.
As for mobo...I do use that app and it works well on the x2 and is pretty good with many formats and will do full screen where other players may not be able to.

Yes you can use mobo and mirror to your TV via HDMI. It works fairly well just don't expect great quality unless its a very high quality avi.

Thanks for the replies. Ok cool I dont have this phone so Im not a 100% sure of how that really works.. I was googling on what I was trying to do.
So,sounds like a plan to me.But with mobo player all I should do is just add avi files to sd card and open mobo and mirror to tv. Whats consider a HQ avi?

If you can share the file I can take a look at it and tell you what might be going on. MP4 files USUALLY container AAC audio, but not always. There are a few esoteric audio types that can reside in an MP4 container that may not play with the stock player.
You can also try an alternative player, like Rockplayer for instance....
I dunno how to Share the file
I'll try the player you mentioned

MP4 wont play from SD card
Ever since i rooted my Samsung Vibrant T959, I am unable to play MP4 video files from the SD card. If I move the file to the internal storage it plays just fine. I have a 32gb SD card and would rather save the phone memory for my APPS. Any suggestions? I have tried the original root (android 2.1) not sure what the official name for it is, CM7, and currently I am running Bionix v.1.3.1. I have tried multiple MP4 files. I backed up my entire DVD library so i have multiple MP4 to choose from. I have tried about 15 different movies so far. The only videos i can play now are certain AVI files. Is there anything i can do? I have tried RockPlayer, MoboPlayer, Tried to Drag and Drop, and I have tried to use Double Twist. Files will show up in my browser, but when i select them it says unsupported file type.
MX player. If MX doesn't work for you then you phone is having issues with such a large exsd.
thank you for getting back to me... I just tried to download MX Player and it does not give me the unsupported file type message, but now it just says unable to play file. I have a 16gb card i got with my HTC HD2 (also rooted and running android) that is just floating around my house somewhere, i may try to put that card in my vibrant and see if I get any better results. Thank you again though.

which is the best video converter for Nook tablet

Hi Guys,
Can somebody point out a video converter for nook tablet ?.
Cheers!!!!!
You don’t need any converter when you can sideload something like MX player!

I use WinX DVD Ripper and it works great, but there is a fee to download it. I've heard of others using HandBrake which is free but I haven't tried it.

As someone else mentioned a third party player like MX Player or Mobo removes the need for converting. Having said that, I use VLC to convert larger videos to MP4 format so they take up less space. It has way more options than I need but is still pretty simple to use.
Handbrake works great

Well, i just tried to play avi file using MX Player,, but could not play it.. infact MX Player did not even recognise it..
So, what i am doing wrong..
You need to download the arm7 codec pack from the market as well for mxplayer
Save hours - use mxplayer
Save hours on conversion times and use mxplayer.
If u have playback problems try using the software decoder option, which u set in the preferences or my tapping top right during playback.

moboplayer
Mx video player works with sd card and for streaming videos from your network. You need to add sdcard2 as one of the sources in settings. Hope it helps

You can try ES file explorer and tapping on the LAN tab. Then add the server you're trying to play the files from and you can then tap on a file to play and choose to open with moboplayer.
I am using MOBO player. It's working great. Free and easy to configure.

BS player has hardware acceleration and works great on Tablet S. I think it supports SD-cards, but not sure. The .srt subtitles work great though. It also has a function that searches subs for you online. No more searching!

I use a similar setup as you. For my file manager I use HD file explorer for honeycomb and set up my network through the lan connection. Then I play the videos through MX player and music through Mobo. Some videos play better than others depending on the format but for the most part it works well. What I like about HD file manager is you can access everything from your network drive and it easy to setup. I just wish there was a way to create a play list for music files from my NAS without transferring files to my SD card. Any ideas on this?
Try CineXplayer I have had any issues also locates files for u when opening so no need to manually find files. No ads full screen no stuttering videos. Good quality picks up where you leave off in videos if stopped while viewing when opened back up.
Yes mobo player is pretty sweet, free and clean looking a must download if u wanna watch movies n things.
MX player does both (SD card, SRT titles) flawlessly. So impressed I bought the ful version.
no stop in mxplayer?

just tap the screen and there should appear reverse, pause and forward. just press pause´. There is no actual stop button.
u can change that in the settings actually I believe (i.e. always show controls). Can't imagine why its necessary, you want full screen video normally don't you?
Strange. So when I start a 3 hour video and notice after 5 mins that I have seen it...I need to look it to the end as I can not stop it. I need to try mobo....

I've installed mobo player.
i've just put on avatar, transformers 3 and warrior. as i dragged them across the pc started converting them. each of them looked ok in the folder. when i unplugged the phone and tried playing them they were just about 5 minutes long with just a bit of music.
i'm completely stuck and baffled...
just tried again, and again, only 4 minutes 51 secs of video played. i don't understand why. is it because i'm uploading using my pc?
why is the pc trying to convert my file format as i'm trying to transfer it? confused!!!
I play 720p mp4 flawlessly with Mvideoplayer. I wasn't promted to convert my MP4 files when I copied them from my PC to my phone, but it did come up when I did it with some AVI files. I clicked no to conversion and they play fine on my phone.
OK, so i've now tried loading another type of file, avi, to the phone. it was a 6.2GB movie. It didn't load, said it was too big!!! WTF!
this is some FAT32 issue right?
But this still doesn't solve my original problem.
I've loaded many different files, many types, different sizes.... But it seems like all the stock video player (and now MOBO Player) wants to do is play only 4 minutes 51 seconds........
but when you look at the file through astro or the pc, it shows the true length of the file.... thnk i'm missing something here, it may be basic, but please help someone. been at this all day with no luck!!
wmv
anybody knows about a player for wmv files? I tried using the Mx Video Player but it says it doesn't support it.
I don't whether you guys looking for the free or paid apps
but
I personally using rockplayer lite and it does work with almost every thing especially if you use "play with hardware acceleration" then every thinh up to 3.5 gb film is work pefectly
I got also a PowerDVD mobile (violation of the xda ...) hacked one so it work well.
so i cannnot post a apk.
Try diceplayer

I transferred movies onto mine, six files ranging from about 700mb to 1.6gb in avi format and they play without any problems on mobo player,I also have power dvd mobile legit version and that plays them as well, the only thing I find with power dvd is it stops playing now and again and I have to press play for it to continue.
I'm on windows 7 and that asks me do I want to convert it,I don't generally but with the planet of the apes I did but it played ok just a smaller file size.
The only thing I can suggest if you haven't already done so is instead of drag and drop, try right clicking on the file and copy/paste and see if that makes a difference??

i tried like mx video player. mobo player etc almost anything with neon codec support. it can barely play a 720p wmv properly, audio just out of sync and video is laggy. something is not right here. however i try some other resolution like 480p and it works fine.
my ex optimus 3d can even play almost all video format with hardware acceleration support.
some media players does not use hardware acceleration!! thats is way is not work fluently

This was the kind of answer I was looking for.
I've spent al most 2 days trying to figure it out.
I've used mp4 files, other formats, normal transfer and transfer using pc companion.
I will try avi files, and no to convert.
hoping this works. stay tuned...
what kind of video can the galley-app play?
I would much like to stream to my Sony TV without HDMI-cabel, same way it works with pictures
Hi,
What is the best program to play movies and subtitles for XPS?
If you try to copy videos or audio it will sometimes ask you to format the file, simply don't allow this when the window pops up.
This will be different for every computer depending on what codecs you have installed.
Also sounds like your possibly not waiting long enough for the files to copy over? Might not be showing the progress bar for what ever reason, slow pc?
Replace the miniUSB cable perhaps with another.
Try a different computer to drag and drop the files across.
There's a 2gb file size limit with the fat file system, a 720p or lower avi movie that's about 700mb is plenty quality for a screen this small, you don't need large blueray 1080p clips taking up memory for a very minor difference in quality.
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
Also you can put files anywhere on the memory, player will pick up the files automatically.
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
If you use a combination of bubbleupnp and dice player you can play almost all movie formats just fine. It is perfectly possible to play videos from other dlna servers as well as play videos from the phone on other dlna renderers.

[Q] Streaming MKV files from Windows Media Centre to Xperia Z tablet

Hi,
Can anyone help with this one?
I've got a few video files in MKV format, which play fine if they are stored on the tablet (SGP311) or on the Micro SD card.
However, when I try to stream MKV files from my Windows Media Center (windows 7) library, I get the message "Cannot Show media. File format not supported"
MP4 files stream ok from the same location, so I'm confused.
I'm using the stock player. I have downloaded MXPlayer, but not worked out how to stream from WMC with that yet.
Can anyone explain why or suggest a solution before I convert the videos over to MP4 format?
thanks
Andy
Are yuou playing it right from wmc? If so, i think its in the software because it has to play within..
If you want to play the video from the location folder you can try gomplayer it plays a lot of video formats (even an mp3 file).. Currently using.
Sent from my SGP311 using xda app-developers app
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I'm trying to stream it from the HDD on the wmc PC straight to the tablet.
I've found something now which works well and seems to play everything. Using ES file explorer and mx player as described here.
http://apcmag.com/how-to-stream-video-to-an-android-device.htm
Use rockplayer. Mxplayer does stream mkv though, you do need a filemanager though.

I use the DicePlayer, works well
I had the same problem and I didn't figure out what was that.
So I found a cool media streaming app called ArkMC. It supports all video formats. Works smoothly.
