Sony Ericsson turned 10 years old, and now Sony is rumoured to be about to buy out Ericsson (25,000 patents, major employer)...so...will they keep the name and logo? Sony Ericsson? Or will Ericsson fully disappear and Sony returns to the mobile marketplace? Wow...Ericsson to be bought out by Sony.....
Never heard about something like that...
It would be strange ... Just see "Sony" on my phone...
Do you have any websites that speak of that ?
Check the link! It's a good link! A credible source!
And yes, Sony launched their own phones many years ago, but didn't get much market share.
Seems to be serious the picture let me think we won't have the green logo any more ?
Aw, sad... Anyway i'm waiting the Defy+ in France
This rumour has been in the evening press here in sweden a couple of days ago, seems like the economic journalists that i have read means that it is most logical that sony buys ericsson out, and both will probably be winners if this happens.
I am not so sure, thinking that ericsson has been making phones (stationary and mobiles) for almost an eternity and much of ericssons identity will be lost if this happens, but i am not an expert, more likely a noob
As a Swede, you opinion is very important...I believe Ericsson has been around a long time and is a very well respected company.

The first phone i remember from my childhood was a ericsson (stationary of course), but this is around 40 years ago
My father was working at the swedish national tele company (televerket was its name at that time, now its namned telia) and the ericsson logo was almost everywere at our home, and on cable drums, cables, phones etc.
So ericsson means a lot for many swedes i think, the only company that is more swedish than ericsson is volvo i guess, and volvo is really close to many hearts in this country
personally i rather drive saab , but the best mobile i have own was ericsson r310s
If they merge and Sony comes into the scene, maybe they are expecting some rise in the market. These guys are not up to the top notch like samsung or moto (or even apple!).
SE had a good chance to show the world who they are but they did not. im sorry to put the fans down here in the forum but i feel they should change.
I wonder if they will still stay the same after they change.....? My goodness! it's time i change to another phone, cause we are history!
(just my thoughts above, not to put anyone down)
Yes, I'm concerned because Sony's previous venture into the mobile market was unsuccessful. They had some OK phones but never got much market share. So they want to try again? What's new? If they try the same things again...it would be a waste.
I don't think all the innovation in SE today is coming from Sony. Some things yes, they are obvious e.g. Bravia, Walkman etc. but Ericsson has been doing this for decades, and they have frequently put out unique phones and earned good money and market. But I guess something's not working well in the joint venture today. SE might be selling well in Europe (3rd biggest Android seller in the 6 biggest markets) but global market share I read a few days ago is at about 1.5%. So indeed...something's not working well. And I still can't figure out what SE did when the iPhone came in 2007 and changed the marketplace. SE's share just died, like Nokia is today.
I am hopeful too though. Maybe they will do it well. Who knows. But, Sony products are quite expensive...

Then thats the time we will do the new transition of changing to another phone!
i dont own a ps3 or psp, but i like the hardware and stuff Sony uses in them. we expected the same with the phone industry and nothing new came. the new phones come to mock the devs or the rivals. look at the samsung galaxy 2, something that had lot of pep power with dual core 1.2...etc. at the same time our guys released the Arc which is just a updated version of the X10. Meaningless! SE is still in their rock ages while all the rivals are in the 21st century!
It's always sad whenever i read articles by Eldar Murtazin from mobile-review.com, i have to put thumbs down for SE because they are not upto the top notch.
but even through all these negatives i have to agree i have a lot of experience with SE. dad first had a K700i, then a P1i, now my W705i. I had a Moto V3i, then upgraded to W705i then i passed to my dad and got this X10 Mini Pro.
i loved the easiness of the software. even through all the negatives, i liked it.
Still, they would have improved all these years.....
Really sad about these guys...
well, we will wait and see.
Evolve or die and i guess it's se time to die. It's a shame because their phones had a great design but it's kind of expected because their mid and low range phones were pieces of ****. They had some great phones like K800i the x10 mini with great specs and value for money but with zero respect for their supporters as we saw on the X10, mini, pro support, they had us stuck at 1.6 and they gave us an 2.1 when the rest of the world had 2.2.

Why is it that a company, joint venture of course, but a company none the less that did quite well up until the smartphone era, failed so badly when it came to the new generation of tech? I mean its not even about their hardware, its more about the support they gave us, mainly on the 2010 xperia range? How did they benefit from anything they have done in the past say 2-3 years?
Personally i love my mimmi, its a great phone, but i think that its time to let go of the past and look to the future, maybe HTC.
Just my 2 cents,
cheers,
Evil.
i think this is great news actually!!
when one company takes over another sizable company, usually they leave their identity and work culture etc independant.. they only replace the badge on the front door of the company... so we'll probably still get SE phones... just with "Sony" written on the front
For sony it's great cause they now can stand up to the mighty iphone (possibly even fight back).. for Ericsson, I dunno their financial situation but they should now have full Sony backing... they will not have an identity in the smartphone region... hopefully sony doesnt meddle too much with the ericsson development office and they should be fine.
the only people affected will be the swedes... suddenly they'll be out of Ericsson phones!!!
It has been announced, Sony is buying out Ericsson in the mobile joint venture.

Yes, and i think that i sucks...
But hopefully Sony starts to make really great phones, i believe that ST-ericson will stand behind them......

It must be said though that Sony used to make phones too, about 10 years ago. They were relatively slick and some unique features, but they did not get much market share. So, I'm not convinced they'll do a better go the second time.
However, in their new statment Sony talked about connecting the whole family of Sony products. This is exactly like what Apple has done (and has more planned) and Microsoft is doing (connecting Windows, Windows Phone 7, Xbox) etc. so just maybe Sony will pull it off this time.
Two things about Sony phones that I don't look forward to:
1. Proprietary 'closed' formats
2. Typical Sony high prices. I read a recent article pointing out that you should never expect a cheaper Sony laptop - it doesn't fit in with their brand portfolio, place in the market etc.
In my opinion Sony can try to connect Playstation with smartphones like Microsoft connect Xbox Live with Windows Phone..

Samsung Galaxy S III is a mighty beast? Agreed. Does it have the meanest specs? It does. Can it be upgraded to Android's latest when it comes? Might not be.
S III reviews are coming out and here's a quote from The Verge's review-
"One thing that goes consistently overlooked with respect to Samsung’s phones is the company’s ignominious track record with Android software updates. There may be worse offenders out there, but Samsung’s chronic failure to update its devices on time (or at all) is a significant black mark for a brand looking to lead the way in almost every other respect. Thus, as much as I may enjoy the Galaxy S III today, I have to temper that enthusiasm with the knowledge that its long-term future may not be as rosy as that of a stock Android device"

The Galaxy S II ICS update hasn't come to India yet where Sony is almost ready to release ICS updates for their low-end range in a week, despite S II being a flagship. People in this forum are constantly doubting Sony's commitment to their customers. I don't know why but they should never. For a company which is willing to support the developer community for the greater good, nothing speaks more trust than that. So if you worried about the ICS update or future updates about your XPERIA S, never worry. Just wait for a couple of weeks more and you will get it.
So will you trust Sony?
i owned an xperia x10->ray and now xperia s.
the xps is a very good phone i can say is fantastic, i played some howers a go a game made by qualcomm it self (snapdragon) the game is Desert wind still in very very alpha and not even completed and i can say that game completly destroys all tegra 3 games i ever seen!
but lets be honest the galaxy s3 is a better phone in many aspects, is a newer high end phone is normal to be better, not only for the futures he comes with but for the hardware to, if i should buy a new phone right now i'll wait for the galaxy s 3!
No i'll never trust FONY again!
It is absolutly a fatal error that FONY decided to update tre 2011 line before the new XPERIA S "flagship"...
AND...
The S/E update track record is also really not something they can be proud of...
Xperia X10 with 1.6 on launch, ages and deadlines went by before we finally got 2.1...
And then they said that X10 would not recive 2.3... Just after a huge pressure they finally decided to put together a 2.3, but without the features the phone had in 2.1 smileshutter and so on... Again we had to wait for ages...
They use excuses like hardware limitations, but really, even the X10 run ICS... Thank god for XDA!!!
And dont get me started on the whole single/dual touch issue... That was also really not something they should be proud of...

Even my X10 MP could run ICS. But that's marketing. It has been like that and always will be.
Xperia for life..
Sony simply love the aftermarket developers, users need.
They are social company, not some kind of competitor like apple or samsung, they aiming only for money..
Sony aim also on money, but taking in mind care of users, satisfaction of user, being reliable, accepting if they mistake in something (arc case, xperia s screen) and wiling to repair it for free...
what do you need more?
great phone poor support
i cant think of many reasons, and i have the xperia s,
it has a better screen (ppi) and i prefer the look of the xperia s, when ics comes to the xperia s i might be able to find more however with the s3 having a much larger battery, current reviews(benchmarks) say it has twice the standby time of the htc one x,
although samsung have fallen in the update area, sony have been far from good with theres with something as small as firmware and ics, three, tmobile and orange have all released there version of the .73 firmware to fix the battery drain issue and there is no generic version released as yet and wont be for some weeks, i developed the yellow tint on my first xperia s and had to wait 6 weeks for my phone to be returned, not sure what samsung are like at this but from my point of view i paid £400 for as phone that went dead after 42 days !!!! i should have had a replacement set to me not a repair
then there is ics which has a big stamp on the box saying its upgradable, the one x comes out with it, the 2011 range get it and still another month or two wait for there so called flagship to recieve the update when samsung s2 recieved the upgrade before sony got it to the 2011 range aswell,
sony were once the best in the market but now there one of the worst for it,
as much as i love the phone to pieces and wouldnt swap it for anything else on the market at the moment the support from sony and the timely updates are appalling,
i even had a chat with sony support and asked when the 73 firmware update will be released for generic uk users and his response was "do you mean ics" further training needed too i think,
plus on the xperia s
screen
camera
playstation certified
panorama 3d photos,
hdmi support
styling (see thru cap at bottom is a very good touch esp in a dark room/club)
plus on the samsung
processor
lte version to be released
additional micro sd slot ( i know 32gb is enough but what about when you want to print photos direct from the phone in store) micro sd does come in handy
ics already pre installed,
better browsing due to ics
better multitaksing due to ics the list can go on
when xperia s gets ics i still think the xperia s will be the better phone as you dont need a quad core nowadays but it has to be listed as a pro for the s3, i doubt you will get the use of it for another year or so until some advanced apps come out,

The Samasung track record for updating is much much worse than Sony. Sony is one of the best when it comes to updating for Android. Also I would rather have them wait and release an almost perfect version than push out a crummy one. Go test the HTC One series which have lag issues in ICS and you will see what I mean.

You should try owning a Motorola if you think Sony have done you a disservice.
Fanboi threads are fail. Sony lost alot of good will with the fiasco that was the x10. Samsung ran rings around them and to be fair, and speaking as an S user, they still do. Updates? Sony vs Samsung? It's a no brainer. The S2 didn't get to where it is by shoddy after market support, quite the contrary. If it wasn't for the vast number of pissed off customers the x10 would still be running 2.1. Sony lovers devs? The lols just keep coming. All the aftermarket devs have done has been to show just how incompetent Sony are, how they try to hoodwink their less tech savvy customers by spinning utter bull**** about hardware limitations etc... And the list goes on. 3 months down the line im still waiting to be able to have some fun with my S. Silly me, should have held on to my brilliant S2 and waited for a proper phone by a manufacturer that knows how to please the masses.
Well, I would never, ever consider the Xperia S over the S3. Never. Xperia S in my opinion is a competitor of the GNex. S3? No.
The Hayabusa will be that phone.
And about the updates, remember that Carriers are the biggest problem, specially in these cases of "not in my country!"
And didn't Sony just said they won't update the Xperia Play? I mean, seriously?
lol where is the update for the original flagship arc? They updated the mid end neo V and ray but not the arc how wonderful!! And did you hear they cancelled the update for the xperia play despite "promising" it?
Wait wait where is the update for the xperia S for that matter? Are you even serious making this topic? So what if the S2 update hasnt reached india yet? It's pretty simple to put another country firmware, you really dont need indian firmware just because one lives in india. There is hardly any difference.
Samsung has bad support for their mid end and low end phones yes thats true but it doesnt apply in the slightest bit to their flagship. The galaxy S was one of the first phones after nexus S to get gingerbread. Galaxy S wasnt updated to ICS but neither was any other phone from it's time.
It's unfortunate that the Xperia PLAY won't get ICS, but it's down to issues with the gamepad and changes in ICS - which would ultimately require most Xperia PLAY optimised games to be modified.
I think Sony realised that this was not practical and had to make a tough decision. Yes, it does mean they can no longer claim to be upgrading every single 2011 model - but one exception is still pretty good compared to all of those HTC, Samsung, LG and Motorola models released in 2011 that won't get updates (contrary to popular belief, Samsung did release more than the Note and Galaxy S II last year!).

If you cut down the SGSII variants that are a problem of the carriers, the number of devices goes down.
Plus, they should be working in the update of the Xperia S even before it's release. I dunno why they did this the way they did. They screwed up big time IMO.

HTC is updating most of it's phones as well, even the desire HD which was launched in 2010!! You cant expect them to update something like the wildfire S with a 600mhz CPU and 512MB ROM. The minimum xperia phone getting updated is 1Ghz CPU and 1GB ROM.
Samsung did mess up yes but not on their flagship, do you even know the S2 has started shipping with ICS out of the box? The verge reviewer has no idea what he is talking about.
I never recommend the cheaper samsung phones to anyone but to try to put the S3 in a negative spot because of how samsung treats it's cheaper phones is ridiculous.
http://www.gsmarena.com/galaxy_s_ii_in_india_is_now_shipping_with_android_40_ics-news-4273.php
The reviewer of The Verge is the guy who got his heart broken by Samsung in the release of the S3.
I'm just pleased to see that he did gave a 0 to the phone.
Another plus for the S3, the dev support it will have will likely be unprecedent. It's already the most preordered gadget in history (sure, the number is much higher than the real purchases because some people have pre ordered different collors and memory amount just to be safe).
Motorola sucks. I hope that with it's new CEO things will change there and they get back on the right track of producing great phones. My Motorola Milestone (2009) is able to run CM9 with it's OMAP3 550mhz (overclocked at 1ghz) and 256mb of RAM, pretty impressive for a device with a locked bootloader, IMO.
I agree with you that Xperia S is better, but your reason isn't right. The thing is everyone's impressed with the s3's specs like qead-core processor although it is something you definitely don't need these days. You will never get to a point when a dual-core will not be enough for ANY kind of software. Moreover, xperia S' camera is better and has faster processor.
Long story short, Samsung is putting a lot of effort on over mighty specifications you don't need, maybe just for the once who compare it to the S by specs only. The ICS delay is annoying I must say, but it is not that terrible.. Another month is not THAT much.
Xperia S is sexy, awesome display and camera, and very fast. Sony is my choice.

They said the same thing about 1Ghz single core CPU's, they always say xyz will always be enough forever but it is never the case. The biggest limitation of xperia S is actually the GPU which really could have been better for 720p resolution. 1.5Ghz dual core CPU and 1GB ram would not cause any issues for a long time.
Xperia S camera is not better just because it has more megapixels. I would think the camera is just about equal on both, the great feature the xperia S has is camera button.
And xperia has faster processor? lol wut?

Did Samsung Galaxy S get ICS? And mind u, Samsung sold a butt load of those.

To a few people here, easy guys. Let's have a constructive discussion and not a bashing one. I for one am not a Sony representative and am quite an objective gadget lover - have many devices including an iPod touch (because I love Apple's OS fluidoty), a Galaxy S2, the Xperia S and the Ray. It makes sense to love everything
Now to the point I wanted to make. Companies should sometimes care about customers too. The fact that X10 got 2.3 is huge. Do you remember Samsung's first galaxy having anything more than 1.6? Do you remember the HTC Hero with more than 2.1? Sony never left these customers in the lurch. Asking for ICS when you bought the X10 is like wishing for lifetime ice-cream supply.
I will tell you another case which I think everybody should know. Samsung quietly replaced the S2 I9100 with I9100G a couple of months ago in the Indian market. What do you say is all the fuss eh? The chipset inside is not a dual-core Exynos or Mali GFX chipset. It's replaced by Cortex A9 and PowerVR SGX540. The processor was underclocked. The GPU was inferior. Asked Samsung on Twitter and they said that chipsets have been replaced but they have similar performance. Benchmarks around the world suggested otherwise. So is Samsung being very clever? Would you like to buy something that is a lie and a false promise in the first place? They just released this model in developing markets because there was a Exynos shortage for European markets so they realised why not fool the mindless buyers of lowly markets!
And I have one question at the end of this - WOULD YOU HAVE ACCEPTED SUCH MANIPULATIVE MARKET PRACTICES?

Today i was reading an article on tech radar about the top 20 smart phones today, the Xperia S made the list but the Acro S didn't and not just that; i am a religious follower of most major tech blogs and sites and i seldom come across anything talking about the Acro S,
this forum also serve as an example, how many threads do you see about the Acro S compared to the S? How many roms, custom kernels, etc?
The only thing i can think of is bad marketing as they both have almost identical hardware except that the Acro is rugged, waterproof and does not suffer from the fail capacitive button or the lack of sd card support which makes it a 100 times better phone, this is a clear example of Sony bad marketing, i mean the better device isn't even popular amongst those loyal to the brand let alone other none Sony users.
Sent from my Xperia™ Acro S using Tapatalk 2
that top is not that good ...LG 4x on 6th place???????? wtf ...seriously..
and yeah acro s isn't a " normal " phone like sony...it has splash etc things..maybe that's why they didin't included in their rank.
I stopped reading hi-tech news and blogs a long time ago. Too many biased and fanboyish opinion. Most of those blogs now are either pro-Samsung or pro-Apple. Everything got to compare to the S3/New Iphone. Sony, LG and other smartphones company got smashed to death. So, what's the point?
bad marketing led to bad dev support
its that bad that the well talented and knowledgeable developers with good taste aren't here. compared to what i used to have and get with xperia arc S. people in this xperia 2012 forum doesn't work well with each other. i have posted and created several threads for the betterment of the device, but none or a very few are responding.
hell they don't even care if they a have a slick and good looking quicktoggles that matches the SONY UXP UI, a very few cooperate with software issues like quick camera launch bug and the BRAVIA engine issue for unlocked bootloaders.
several devs from 2012 line up were asking devs from this forum for a little cooperation of porting some goodies, but no one is cooperating.
IF I ONLY HAD THE KNOWLEDGE HOW TO DO ALL THIS, I WILL SPEND ATLEAST A FEW HOURS OF MY FREE TIME TO MAKE THIS GLOOMY FORUM LIVELY.
They don't sell the acro s everywhere, maybe that's why.

The knowledge can be gathered all over the internet. I also do not have the knowledge but the lack of customizations for Acro S lead me to try to tweak stuff myself .. and guess what: it worked .
Now we are getting to the second part of your sentence: free time. What free time ? I wish I had at least 2 hours a day to dedicate on doing new stuff ... but I don't. And looking at the dev. community, there are few devs doing stuff for a lot of devices so I guess they don't have too much time to dedicate to Acro S alone.
So basically we are stuck ... I tried MIUI - no go for me. I them moved to CM .. 9.1 is fine but still has few bugs ... CM10 is not yet ready for daily use. So ... I got stuck with the original sony firmware with some tweaks that I implemented myself and with all the bloatware removed. In the end is a nice and stable device so I don;t complain too much ... I just wish some JB would be made available by Sony (considering that my previous device was a Galaxy Nexus I know what I'm missing).
As for the "badly marketed" part I do not agree. In my opinion Acro S was a test conceived to see how people will adhere to such a phone. Is not the fastest nor the slimmest device on the market and the battery life is sub-par ... but is waterproof. And apparently there is not a lot of people out there willing to trade off slickness for roughness ... and if there is no huge market, so is the advertising/marketing for the product.
And let's not forget. This phone was announced way back, at the beginning of 2012 ... and it was made available in September ... quite a delay I might say. From now on people are concentrating on the new models.
In a way I agree this thing is badly marketed. On August 9 I sent message to sony support center Romania, and they replied me on August 21 saying:
With regards to your inquiry, first of all we would like to apologize for the delay in our answer for your email. We would like to inform you that Xperia Acro S is not available in the Romanian market.

Couple of days later I found out that many mobile phone vendors here in Romania already sell this item.
not yet released in india where defy rules and it could be a great success, if they had released it in india poor marketing ..............

The Acro S has the same cpu, gpu, ram, camera as the Xperia S. The same amazing display with the highest pixel density in the entire market and it supports SD cards up to 64 gigs while the S can't support SD at all, now since you mentioned the battery, Acro S has a 1910 mAh battery, the S 1750 mAh battery.
Add to that the fact that it's waterproof, dust proof and that it can take a beating and that it does not suffer from the buttons failing problem in the S and you got a phone that is superior in every single way, yet today people still go buy the S while the Acro sits next to it on the shelf, why? Terrible marketing, do you think anyone who knows what i just wrote will still buy an S?
The only place where the Acro have been properly promoted was in Japan and it was a massive hit, dude who wouldn't take a waterproof rugged phone that can dive and offer specs better than the flagship device?, and i am talking mainly about the japanese versions of the Acro that got released way before the Acro S when the Xperia S was still Sony's flagship.

I guess Sony is back with a vengeance. I like many things that Apple and Samsung bring to the mobile market, but I'm tired of watching this duopoly develop, so I'm glad to see more competition and a disruption to that dupoply. I don't know where all you guys live, but where I live, almost ALL of the Samsung phones are almost as expensive as the Apple ones and at that they are all black retangular boring objects with NO differentiation. I'm glad to see NEW price points, COLOUR and CHOICE. Sadly, HTC, Sharp and others seem to have been falling apart in the last couple of years so any more competition is good.
(As for the resources, if you Google the stories you'll find a resource that you may prefer, these two were more credible for me.)
They are beautiful devices, I'm now on my third and my next Phone no doubt will be one.
That's me too, I own products from all of the major companies and really enjoy them, but I think Sony's on to something with these phones, and the sales stats. suggest the same too.
Love the Sony phones (have four of them). Never been a fan of HTC and Samsung just feels cheap (though they have nice software additions). Next years Sony devices are going to kick ass too.

next year I may purchase a sony nexus
If a Sony nexus comes.. It will be a no-brainer for me....i love Sony products... This is my 4th phone 4m Sony.. Never been disappointed....

This is very good news indeed. I've always felt that Sony and the Xperia range have never received the recognition they deserve like the way Apple and Samsung do. Some people buy iPhones and S3s and Note 2s just because of the name. Good to see people finally coming to their senses. Xperias ftw
yeaaahhh... This is real story, my friend sold his Galaxy W and he asked me which Sony phone is the best with a budget around Rp 3 million
and I suggest him to buy Xperia P..
It's a prove that Sony is back and I proud have my Sola... :highfive:
Yeah xperias become really popular,no one wants Samsung becuase their phones are ugly and expensive (not Apple expensive) but still my country goes two Europe lower midlle part so price is really important (i cant understand how americans could be poor when everything is much cheaper is their country and still have much bigger pay) for example my cousing who never had Smartphone (of ANY kind) want to buy Xperia Miro so he asked me is it good, well I told him to go with Xperia Mini or Live but he insisted, not sure why. This is just proof that their sales are going up because good design and cheap prices.Just to warn I see many Samsugn-Apple fanboys not reccomending Sony because of 2010 Xperia fiasco but they never had any Sony phone.I cant understand who could buy Samsung phones, they are ugly and have problems+one of worst update support, but it looks they are upgrading Novathor devices to JB so Sony must to then because that could really get effect to their sales.

I agree with all of you.
I had an Xperia S, and now i have an Xperia P.....is the sexiest smartphone on the market IMHO. I selled XS just because was too big and heavy for my pockets....just the battery is less durable....but overall i like more than XS.
Another good thing from Sony are the updates that generally are quite frequent and good instead of other brands (who said LG ? ).
How exciting. I can't wait to see what Sony offers in the future.
Yeah, lots of tech. sites are speculating that Sony is ramping up it's software and updates now that it's getting so much positive media attention. I cannot believe how popular the latest Bond phone is...
p.s. I put this in the general news section of Android on XDA. This is news of a major Android OEM. But it was stuffed in this corner. That p**** me off sometimes.
Thats what they call as categorisation

Sent from my LT22i using xda premium
Yeah, initially Sony made some public comments that they were not rushing into multiple cores (over a year ago) because smartphones 'had no use for them'. Now, if they perform well with fewer or a single core, I agree. Many cores to me is like too many megapixels, there is more to a good camera than megapixels, no?
To be honest, I do not see any performance boost on my dual core Sola than any of my previous single core phones. And yes, I would *love* to see a Sony Nexus. It should have been the Bond phone! Imagine the Bond phone which is so popular getting Nexus status? Actually, if you Google this, Sony Ericsson declined Google's invitation to be an early Nexus device OEM. Bert Norberg said something about 'we're not that kind of OEM', right before sales and profits tanked.
I know Sony has said there are no plans for a Tablet S upgrade, but I was wondering on your thoughts about if they might change their mind. Really hoping on it, personally. I'll keep my fingers crossed; all this tab needs is JB.
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using xda app-developers app
There wont be JB update for Tablet S. Sony are so lazy, it took them almost a year to release 4.1.1, i doubt they will work on JB for the S (although its generally the same)...
As ubichon said, I highly doubt there'll be a JB update for Tablet S. Not only did it take almost a year for the Xperia Tab S, but the fact that TS was a 2011 device makes it even less feasible. No Xperia device from 2011 got JB
If they would open up the dang bootloader then devs would prob do it. I mean there's ICS and JB roms for the xplay even though Sony never updated anything since GB

Too much effort. Porting JB to S1 can be seen as 'waste of time and resources' when the xperia tablet z is almost out, and maintenance of an old tablet by VAIO isn't high on the priority list for their department (and understandably so, since VAIO doesn't specialise in tabs but rather computers, and S1 is 2 years old)
Simply business

Unlocking the bootloader would surely not take much effort...would be a proper sendoff for the original Tablet S anyways. Not really a sendoff because it would only be the beginning...

You sir, are an imbecile, if this is simply based off of your experience with either of the Tablet S's. No offense.
Sony phones have always been made by the Ericsson/Sony Mobile team, which has been very speedy with updates (as of last year and this year) and has always supported the Android community wholeheartedly. In fact, Sony was named OEM of the year by this very site. The reason the Tablet S's have had horrible support is due to the fact that they are managed by an understaffed VAIO team that never was focusing on Android products in the first place.
But wait! There is good news! The Xperia Tablet Z, which is set to be Sony's next flagship tablet, is being developed by the Mobile team! So we can expect awesome support, unlocked bootloaders, etc.
Don't hate on Sony on the Android front; they've been quite amazing at supporting the community since last year-ish (maybe longer).

It's a shame people are too daft to realize this, especially with the whole Xperia S JB update drama. Sony is kind enough to create a update, they could just not update it at all.

I disagree with you! I'm entitled to my opinion! if i spend my hard-earned cash on a product, should i not expect the makers of that product to put any issues right? you are talking as if money grows on trees! Sony should take some responsibilities and stop making excuses!
You can have an opinion, but you shouldn't expect a company to do what you want. They are at least doing something to get the updates to the consumer, why would they want to spend money developing updates for a device you already paid for. You have to remember too that Sony is going under a huge financial crisis, the mobile division has a budget and limited people.
Excluding the tablets, Sony easily allows you to flash different roms and root, you could easily have a custom JB build on the Xperia S right now hell I just checked there's a 4.2.2 rom.

Exactly. Sony Mobile is full of open minden people, who even release their own flash tools, their own instructions how to unlock bootloader, they release kernel sources etc. etc. etc.
If you look at the Xperia Z - there are already Custom Roms for it, including AOSP and CM. Phones like Xperia S or the Xperia ARC S also have tons of mods and roms....
ty for the answers !
i really really really regrets my purchase when i see my girlfriend's touchpad Cm 10.1 !
i have many stuff by sony, but my last smartphone is not sony,
too afraid they will not unlock the phone.

Yeah, totally agree on that. I was just making a point, that the Sony phones have nothing in common with the tablets
It don't matter which department makes what it's all part of the same company and it's SONY's LOGO on the products, therefore its the SONY Brand which is getting the stick, and consumers will feel let down by this, it's not a point of updating to JB it's about fixing the issues with the Tablet, and as a whole SONY have let some customers down badly, we don't really care which department made the dame thing,
If you went to Mac D's and your burger was raw and you took it back to the counter and the person said to you sorry there's nothing i can do because i don't normaly make burgers i normaly fry chips you would say thats stupid i just want what i ordered, well the same applies here i just want a fully working product. I don't care who's job it is. I paid £359 only 14 months ago for a product with flaws.
See what i'm saying the fries have nothing to do with the burgers but it's still Mac D's

Does that mean you wouldn't buy a Sony tv or camera?
No it doesn't I was just making the point of it doesn't matter which department made it, the support should be there to fix problems that affect functionality and stop the device from not doing what it was intended to do.
What it does mean though is I prefer Burger King to Mac D's
Well said! Its not too much to ask sony to fix the issues, if not unlock the bootloader and let the devs solve the issues.
