[Q] VPN problem - IPSEC on 3g network, wifi is fine - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a HTC Sensation Xe with the latest android : 4.0.3.
I have a VPN - IPSEC Xauth PSK connection set, IT WORKS FINE over wifi, it is connected and the server are reachable. But does not work on 3g/edge. It says that the VPN is conected just fine, but the servers are not reachable...I have tried many thinks. It does not work on edge, on gsm, on 3g...NONE.
My provider and SIM is fine, because I used Iphone for 1 week, and the same VPN worked file.
That VPN connection type is new in Android...could it be a BUG ? I really need that vpn...I do not want to go for Iphone...
Thanks for any help !

hd2 wifi router dns problem

Hi,
I have a strange problem with WiFi Router on my HD2. When the device is connected to internet via 3G or HSDPA and is forwarding the connection to WiFi everything is fine, but when the connection changes to EDGE or GPRS I'm not able to use DNS from the laptop connected via WiFi - I can ping some host using it's IP, but there is no way to resolve the domain name.
The HD2 on its own works fine via EDGE.
(I'm using Orange in Poland)
Anybody had similar problems? Any solutions?

[Q] OSX lion l2tp VPN server connection

Posted here, since I believe this is a general and not device specific issue.
So, I have set up a VPN server on OSX Lion Server edition.
It is using l2tp with preshared key and username/password for login.
i(beep) works fine and connects. Laptop works fine and can connect.
But...
1. When Iam on local network (same IP segment) I can connect using Android native l2tp VPN connection setup with PSK and user/pass.
2. When I try to connect from external (3G or other WiFi net) I am unable to connect.
3. When I enabe native tether on Android device, and connect i(beep) to the Android AP, I still am able to connect from i(beep).
These three steps tells me it is not a carrier issue, and possibly an Android issue.
Did anyone experience this (and even better.....did you find a solution)?
Kinda like the l2tp connection for security, and also Lion natively does not supply pptp connection.

I am trying to do the same thing, I havent got the VPN to function yet though but I think its a router issue among other things. I bought a domain name and I am using that with dyndns to help simplify the ip change issues... I am getting a new router to test here next week so hopefully I'll have a better idea.
However now I am worried I'll run into the same issue as you!! lol... Its been a while since you posted, have you found a solution yet?
No. Didn't find a solution, but you might be correct in assuming its a router issue. Have a Netgear myself, and those have had quite a few issues.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I ended up getting a new Airport and it has pretty cool setup integration with the Server / Airport Utility, however I still cannot connect with the VPN connection.
My initial reason to set this up was to use PLEX... AND this actually works very well if I setup my connection through the PLEX connection settings.. but I still can't get it to work with the Android VPN setup.... (tested 3G and WiFi)
..also I cannot get the VPN to work with a Windows PC... tested a Mac (hackintosh) and it worked instantly...
so I think its a Mac thing maybe... Since PLEX is working... I am happy but would still like to get the VPN connection working properly. I suspect I'll need to call Apple about it though
I am also have a similar issue.
OSX Server running 10.6.8
L2TP VPN and PPTP services running
My iPhone and laptop can connect just fine. My HTC One X and HP Touchpad (CM9) can not. Both say the address can not be resolved. The server is sitting in the DMZ and if I enable the web server both devices can resolve to the default welcome page just fine.
1. It isn't a DNS issues since they can connect via the web
2. It isn't a port issue since other clients can connect
Is there some dumb setting i am missing in the VPN setup?
Thanks

OSX Lion Server L2TP VPN and ICS not working
Hey guys.. I got PPTP to work to OSX Lion Server by making sure PPTP, L2TP, and IPSec forwarding were enabled through my router.
Also, make sure to check the VPN logs in /var/log/ppp/vpnd.log to see why it's not connecting..

Unable to connect to VPN on 3G

Hi all,
Im having a problem connecting to a VPN on my Galaxy S3 (stock ROM, not rooted, running Android 4.0.4). I can connect to the VPN fine when Im on a wifi network, but when I try to connect while on 3G network it just says connecting for about ten seconds then comes up Unsuccessful.
Initially I thought it might have been something to do with the network blocking VPN connections, but it worked fine on my old phone (Desire Z running stock 2.3.3) and still runs fine if I try it on the old phone with a different sim from the same network.
The VPN in question is connecting using PPTP.
Is there some setting on the S3 that determines whether or not a VPN can connect over 3G? Or is there something else that I might be missing?
Cheers.
Are you sure you're using PPTP and not L2TP or OpenVPN on the old phone?
The network _could_ filter VPN based on the SIM-card but it's somewhat unlikely.
Try comparing the Network APN settings of both devices, especially whether one of both has a Proxy configured.
Now that you mention it I think the old phone might be set to use L2TP, but they changed that setting in ICS and I was unable to use L2TP (neither the PSK or RSA options would allow me to connect) so I had to use PPTP. The fact that it is connecting on the S3 when Im connected to wifi I didnt think it would make a difference; do you reckon that could be the cause of the problem?

[Q] 802.1x WiFi connection problems

My HTC One is running Android 4.4.2 with sense 6.0 and it refuses to connect to my company 802.1x EAP network. I have a Nexus 5 that's also running Android 4.4.2 and it has no problems whatsoever connecting. I compared the settings side by side and everything is the same yet the HTC One just gets stuck at the "Authentication" step.
Since they're running the same Android version, one would hope that they should be using the same WiFi protocols (visible and hidden) to connect to an 802.1x EAP network. Both phones connect to my home WEP secured home WiFi w/o any problems.
There are a bunch of WiFi fixers, connection aids, etc in the Play store but none of them has helped.
Any tips to solve this problem?

Hamachi VPN not working over 3G

Hi,
I configured Hamachi VPN on Nexus 4 and HTC Desire 500. On rooted N4 it's working like a charm, but on stock non-rooted HTC only over WiFi, it's not working over 3G - I can turn on a VPN connection but then Internet access is gone, I cannot connect with SQL database or with other devices through VNC protocol. Can you help me?
