I'm on LA3 formware 2.3.6 I can't stop my SGS 2 rebooting, although I have moved all my apps into the phone, cleared app and Dalvik cache
Any hint?
rooted?
factory reset...
Rooted: yes
factory reset: no
how freaquent its rebooting, has it got tolerence till finish a backup of apps with titanium Back. if you could do that, do a data factory reset from CWM
Once every 2 days... Wouldn't titanium backup save also faulty settings?
There is usually one or more apps causing this rebooting behavior. Wiping data from recovery might help.
select from menu Batch/ Backup all user apps and you backup manually ticking only user apps which is working fine and esential for you.
dont select user data + system data
better transfer your current titaniumbackup folder to PC and delete all the stuffs in that folder
---------- Post added at 07:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:42 PM ----------
then dont restore any apps for 2 days and check for any reboot problem is there.
Isn't there a way (debugging tool) to trace the offending app?
i think its because of 2.3.6, also Turkey rom 2.3.6 have same problem, allways it rebooting when wireless is on. Please check if it reboots when wireless on, it should be same problem but i don't know what it is.
Now I remember I also had some rebooting issue when I was on 2.3.6, may be a common bug...
you dont like to try any other ROM?
such as?
I recommend MIUI....
I am using GB MIUI now working great....lot of themes & customization...
ICS MIUI is still not fully stable...we have to wait for few more months..
will think about it... thanks mate for helping
download and keep, may be not available GB later
MIUI GB FOR SGS2 2.3.9
MD5(miuiandroid_SGS2-2.3.9.zip)= a451107bfd88edad01b7779319a1838d
Thanks
I think you like the first one, in the line written in blue in my signature .. just joking
how about miui? safe? Stable?
GB version is safe and super stable....
Why not MIUI 2.4.3?

Pretty simple question, i want to upgrade to the latest build by mik. Will this basically wipe everything that isnt on my SD card ? i.e. everything on my desktop, all my settings, all my apps etc.
thanks.
Yes, you will have to wipe everything...
If you want, you can backup your data with apps like "Titanium Backup" or something like those...
U will lost all ur settings,sms,contacts,apps..nd u will lost ur data in sd bcoz u hv to do partition for aps2sd..Its recommrnded to do backup of all ur apps, contacts, sms, nandroid before flashing
oh ok. so ill install apps2sd, move all my apps across, backup contacts and what i can with titanium , flash.
what is this google sync business with contacts ??
so i just flashed to the latest, and its booted back in, and everything is still on my desktop ? like nothing got erased.
i did a full batch titanium backup. did it automatically restore everthing ? even my desktop settings ?? im lost

Haha so luckily you got me and my patience on your thread lol and you questions are simple yeah but not short to answer!
For your question, yes! flashing any rom will exactly wipe EVERYTHING on your phone.
BUT IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM OLDER VERSIONS OF MIK'S 2.3 ROM, it will NOT wipe anything except your google/facebook accounts information.
By the way, for the manual action of "wiping", it depends what android version you are at.
If you are using Froyo 2.2 NOW, yes wipe everything on the list of your custom recovery.
If you are using Gingerbread 2.3 NOW, then you dont have to wipe anything except [cache] and [dalvik cache]. <- You must wipe these two!

I dont get what you mean by "install apps2sd". But whatever you shouldn't do that before flashing a rom. If you mean the Non-froyo App2SD+ (What the hell is non-froyo a2sd?), you should flash it AFTER you have flashed the rom in order to let it activate in the new rom.
Yes. backup all the things with titanium is necessary.
For the google contacts syncing. It is a service provided by Google and it is for you to sync the contacts between your Gmail and your phone. So you can view all your contacts anywhere. You can sync your contacts to gmail and then after rom flashing, the contacts are gone. Simply login back to gmail with the newly flashed rom and then click auto-sync. All of your contacts will be back after a couple of minutes.
But remember one extra point, its sort of a new feature in gingerbread but BE SURE TO UNTICK THE OPTION OF "BACKUP MY DATA ETC TO MY GOOGLE ACCOUNT" after you login your gmail with android 2.3. Why? It actually doesn't backup your data (well for me, i couldnt see it anywhere) but DUPLICATES YOUR MESSAGES WITH NO REASON!

IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM ANDROID 2.2 FROYO
NO. After you flash, every single thing will be GONE COMPLETELY. You will have to perform a titanium batch restore to get everything back in order.
IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM ANDROID 2.3 GINGERBREAD (older versions of mik's rom)
Then Yes everything is still on your "desktop" (I think you meant launcher) and ALL SETTINGS WILL REMAIN. However in some cases, home screen widgets will have problems and you will have to place them again. Information in widgets (such as your city for weather widgets, your to-do-list widgets) are NOT BE ABLE TO BACK UP USING TITANIUM OR ANY OTHER METHODS. So make sure you have written down what you have wrote in your widgets!
And finally if you have missed or made mistakes in any step, dont panic! You can always restore your phone back with KDZ UPDATER (Picture guide in this link)!
And when you are using mik's rom, and you would like to have a try on franco.Kernel which provides excellent performance, dont forget to discuss them in the thread The fantastic combination of mik_os' CM7 and franco.Kernel!!
Hope I was clear enough and if any parts of my post have helped you, dont forget to hit the thanks button at the bottom of my post
Good luck! Happy playing with mik's roms!
Thanks alot, makes it clearer.
I will definitely put francos kernel on, the phone still could do with some imporvement in performance.
next thing i need to learn about is the launcher. is it essentially just the UI ?

erm for the launcher its totally simple - ur phone can have multiple launchers, but you usually only use one. and they gives you the app drawer and some screens for you to place your shortcuts and widgets. how are they? what are their performances? differ on different launchers. they all can simple be found on the market, and after installation you will be able to choose the one you want to use, by clicking the home button.
ADW launcher and Launcher Pro being the most famous ones and you may try GO Launcher as some people are using and appreciating it too.
new users if i have given some help you know what to do and happy androiding.
Everytime my phone is rebooted or crashes after days of use without reboot, some apps for sure will be removed randomly. Specially new ones. Apps which hav been there for long stays.
IM+ lite is a must to be removed everytime.
Recently zedge which has been there for long time just got removed.
Android seems like a mess, apps which get removed, their data stays, n I manually uninstall all of them, n then do a corps cleanup with sd maid. Bt after a reboot, all of the data comes back n I have to uninstall them again.
Its being a very big problem. I cant restart my phone without loosing some apps n data. Please help. I hope ICS has a better app structure, n im willing to do a fresh start there... But I must be able to transfer my "EasyMoney" data to the new rom. It has all my money tranctions.
Plz help, thanks alot...

Reads as its wiping them from the sd card .
Android seems like a mess,
More like your phone not Android as this is not a normal problem .
I would backup all data apps etc .
Factory reset the phone and try
This reads like a corrupt sd card or similar .
After that who knows what your phone firmware is
original firmware return to Samsung service .
Rooted firmware try
....................................
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero .
Return to service centre .

Thanks alot... I used to think after installing SPB Shell 3D and using lucky patcher to patch SPB, caused the problem to start. But I just removed SPB and installed Launcher Pro, and similar probles still exist. Spb nor launcher pro starts properly, have to keep force closing after startup. So am using TouchWiz (hate it)... The problem feels like its related to my SD Card... Maybe I installed too many apps to SD. Currently have about 310 apps all together... So ill just backup my easymoney app data n few sms, pics, musiz etc n just do a factory reset n install SPB...lets see what happens...
Thanks alot...

I want to upgrade my SGS2 to ICS using one of the official firmwares, but I want to be able to restore certain apps and their associated data.
I can use Titanium Backup to backup and restore apps currently.
If I backed up these apps, upgraded to ICS (with a wipe install) and tried to restore these apps, would everything work out, will there be some gotchas due to changes in the Android versions?
Thanks.

Most of the apps will work without problem, a few of them (e.g. Google Currents and Opera) will needs to clear the data in Setting -> Apps. For some unknown reasons, my ASUS Transformer did not pick up calendar information (empty) when I flash AOKP.
Make sure you do Nandroid so you can always go back.

Sweet, what's AOKP though? Cheers for the info.
Automatically Uninstall
I have a SGS2 I9100 and I just flashed the original ICS and restored all my apps with Titanium Backup.
Everything went very smoothly, but for some reason four of my apps are being automatically uninstall whenever I reboot the phone. Those are: Pocketcloud Free, Airattack HD, Plants vs. Zombies and Galaxies War. Ive tried to restore them from Titanium Backup, clear the data, Download them from Google Play and Snappzmarket and nothing works.
As soon as they are installed they work fine as long as I dont reboot the device.
Anyone has any idea what the problem is?
I flashed and rooted it using the instructions in this link

Android version: 4.0.3

Not sure what happen (temp root will sometime do that but I am sure you have perm root). Throw a couple of ideas here: use Root explorer or adb shell to find out if the apps are installed in "/data/app". Also, you can boot into recovery, run "fix permissions", clear the cache and reboot.
how do I use root explorer? I tried the fixed permission but it didnt work. Dont know what else to do
A few days ago i put on Siyah neweset 5.0.1 kernel on my S2 and overclocked but my performance hasn't increased much so i'm gonna put Ressurection Remix ROM now but the first step on the guide says to format my phone and i hate loseing my things, is there anyway to keep my stuff on the new ROM D: ? I'm not sure what to do QQ i don't wanna screw this up, also i'm gonna make a few backups, cuz 1 isn't enough.
Over clocking doesn't increase performance per se.
You can use titanium backup to backup and restore your current apps. Use SMS backup+ for your texts and call lists.
Images, vids, music etc are unaffected by formatting via CWM.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
If you want to switch to another ROM, I guess it's best to backup all your apps via Titanium Backup. As far as I remember, the list displays white apps, red ones and green ones. The red ones are system apps and you should backup them since they differ from ROM to ROM. The white ones are apps which you have installed on your phone (via Google Play...). The green entries are things like "Messages" "Phone call history" and stuff like that.. I guess you can backup them too.
You won't loose your contacts as long as they are stored on your googlemail-account. So no need to safe them.
Then just backup your current ROM via ClockworkMod (I guess one backup is enough :b - If you want to be 100% sure try to backup and right after it finished try to restore the backup. If it works (in 99,9% of all cases) you can just flash your new ROM - if it didn't work try to backup+restore again. As soon as you've got a working backup (I guess the first backup will be OK), flash the new ROM and restore the needed apps via Titanium Backup again. (Just download Titanium Backup right after flashing RR and you will be able to restore every single app again).
More and more ROM devs advise not to restore apps via Titanium Backup, but it always worked fine for me
Hope I helped you,
experience7

Don't be ridiculous.
What about something simple like "How to backup data before installing new rom?"
In any case you should have searched google or XDA first as there is plenty of topics on how to flash roms without losing data or how to backup all your apps/appdata etc.

I can't find the button to change tittle, it must be hidden under 3 layers of bedrock.
Anyway, i've been useing this rom since yesterday, it's awesome .. mostly
Some minor disadvantages, some things like Clock crash, won't update some things but that's normal.
My stock benchmark was 6800, now 6200 D:
Probably becouse the rom uses more RAM than stock.. Overall 8.7/10 <3
I'll keep testin.
EDIT: OH YEA! what were those "modems" it asked me when i was installing it?

Hi, I've searched this forum well, but didn't find anything to answer my problem.
For a few months, I was hapilly using stable release of 10.1.3 for my i9100G without any serious troubles. Today I decided to try 10.2 Nightly (10-27-2013), so I backed up my ROM with CWM, in phone's settings selected the freshly downloaded upgrade and new rom got installed. However, I decided to go back to stable 10.1.3, therefore I wanted to restore my back up, which went alright, except most of apps previously installed are not present in my phone anymore - google play doesn't know about them, they are not listed in Apps in Settings. When I connect my phone with PC via Airdroid, it shows the complete list of apps including the disappeard ones, but thats all it can do. Please, advice me, how can I restore my apps with their data back. Thanks, David:cyclops:

did you do a full data wipe before downgrading?
Try a full wipe(data, cache, dalvik) then downgrade
U will get all your apps working
Its basically due to the conflicts between the entirely different versions of the roms
