I got my wife a gtablet from a member from this forum.
It came with older version of G Harmony and some of the soft buttons weren't working. That's fine, wiped, wiped and wiped again and then installed the latest.
Now I'm noticing it's having problems with going into sleep and not waking up. (not all the time but often)
I did the do not sleep from the setting screen and still the same thing.
Now I need a rom that she can use daily without any issues with youtube and hulu working and all the videos working great.
Any suggestions? or did I get a dud?
Any overclocked froyo version will do just fine. Stay away from CM7 as there has been a huge number of reports of problems coming from that end.
full wipe everything and vegan 5.1.1 oughtta set you straight
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1024120
Has been my daily driver for a few months with no problems. No sleep issues and excellent battery life. Only issue is that alternate keyboards require a manual install (moving the apk file from one dir to another)
good intention: thanks
Hey orangekid, we used to come across from ppcgeeks a while back I believe around winmo days.
Thanks for the info.
Isn't vegan ginger at rc1 7.0 atm? any cons?
brettdwagner: any cons from that rom? I see that it's already over-clocked from the get go. How is that? any issues?
what is this alternative keyboard you speak of? lol. I have no idea what you said.

I pretty new to this hobby. Having very good luck with:
Calkulin + Clemsyn Combo V6.
I'd start at goodintentions website:
http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/
and go from there.
Have fun...
Thanks just downloaded v6 from his site and going to lock horns now.

What he is talking about are keyboards that oyu can download from the market. They'll be different colors, different layouts, etc. One that I like has a voice and gesture input method.
on most roms, all that's needed to change the keyboard is to long tap on the text area, then activate the new keyboard. In Calkulin Clemysn, it's much different, as the stock keyboard is in the system files, and needs to be switched with the new one for it to work...
I personally have no issues with Calk's stock keyboard, so I haven't bothered changing it.

Yeah ppcgeeks back in the diamond days, I still hang out there too
Vegan 5.1.1 is better because it's froyo and not GB.
Froyo has hardware acceleration and GB does not, so that's why I went with that. You can go RC17.0 but I don't really see what it has to offer over the 2.2 version and it's not as fast or snappy.
I am personally running CM 7.1.0 Nightly and it seems to work great. No real issues that I notice. What is so much better with Froyo? I don't watch hi-def video so then full hardware acceleration isn't really an issue for me, correct?
Basically, I'm trying to figure out the tradeoffs between froyo and gingerbread roms.

I used CM7.1 and it had a few quirks. The app drawer sometimes lagged while open, sometimes things lagged just a tiny bit. Overall it's a good ROM, but netflix was fubar.
I am currently on CM7.03, netflix works, a few bugs but not too bad, I can take the tradeoff.
Froyo is VERY snappy, no bugs for me, seems faster than a SGT actually. Video playback is awesome, and some HD games.
My personal favorite is CM7.03 for netflix and CM goodies.
Netflix is working great for me with 7.1. Had to mod the build.prop file but otherwise great. Does the interface look much different between froyo and gingerbread?
I guess this probably won't much of a deal once there is a good, stable HC rom to use. The interface is just too slick to pass up (once basically everything is working well). Actually gtabcomb sounds like it is getting pretty close (except video acceleration and the camera).

there's no hardware acceleration in GB either.
So I tried both Calc's + kernel and vegan +pershoot kernel rom.
Both are very snappy and responsive but found cons with few.
Vegan rom with pershoot kernel has the slow to wake issue with me having to have to double click on the power button to turn on.
Calc's rom with clemsyn kernel is great but at low battery, it starts to crawl.
It doesn't feel like 1.2ghz but more like 300mhz and it was still near 50%.
Wifi takes forever to turn back on.
Any tweaks that you guys can recommend ?
Where do you see the hardware acceleration difference? Really just with high def movies?
Siptang, can't you go into the performance settings and change how it behaves at low battery levels?

It crawls when I'm just browsing files from the app drawer.
On which rom does it have performance settings?
edit: found the answer to my previous question.
I have read a lot of discussions on this site, but have not seen an answer to my question...so, here I go.
I am looking at getting a GTablet...with it on sale now for about $260, the price is really tempting. However, I have not read of a ROM that works COMPLETELY with all of the hardware. Either it "mostly" works, or crashes often, ect. Is there a ROM that works without issue (at least no more issues than the factory ROM)?
Confused?
Here is the lay down
Stock ROM with OC [email protected] .......................working HW acceleration and camera
Enhanced Froyo ROM OC [email protected] HW acceleration and camera
Gingerbread ROM OC [email][email protected] HW acceleration and camera
CM7 ROM OC [email][email protected] have HW acceleration, working camera
Honeycomb ROM OC [email protected] no HW acceleration, no camera
Take your pick, your Gtab should be on BL 1.2 already, do check the tablet status to be sure. Make sure you select ROM build for BL 1.2 if your gtab is BL 1.2 model.
I like VTL Launcher to use with non Honeycomb rom, so check it out. You can get it free in the XDA forum.
Later.

To get things going, I don't really think I will be OC'ing. It looks like the Gingerbread ROM is stable and the latest release with all functionality. Do you agree? Any particular build, website, or videos you would recommend?

Here is a good website with info about current roms for the gtablet.

My gtablet is on boot loader 1.1 so I can't tell you much about the new 1.2 roms. If for some reason your tablet is on boot loader 1.1 . This is my favorite rom that everything just works .

So, I don't get the feeling that anyone has a complete working ROM for Gingerbread or Honeycomb. Since I went ahead and ordered the gTablet, I will be researching further. Can anyone give me some opinions on the best complete working ROM for Gen 1.2? I will be mainly using the tablet for internet surfing, FB, movies, YouTube, and , of course, the occasional Angry Birds.
Thanks Again,

Go with one of the Honeycomb roms. Just add Opera and Flash and you wont regreat it. Or you can go for the old stable work horse Vegan Tab 5.1.1. It never let me down. Im currently using Honeycomb and now that Ive figured it out Im really liking it. Its got more eye candy then the Froyo rom.
I've tried alot of roms since I got my GTab in October. Currently running Flashback 7.1, a little trick to get into. I suggest trying a few.

I've been running the Beasty 2.2.1 ROM and everything works. It's Froyo but I'm still quite happy with it.
Have it overclocked to 1.5Ghz and under voltaged. Stays cool and battery easily lasts a day or more.

Same for me but I got an intersting anwser by a guy on XDA forum,
here is it .
This is the message:
Bonjour, Mikyreale!
I would recommend using VEGAN tab 7.0. It is the most stable and most complete Gingerbread operating system for the gTablet. If you want to use the latest operating system, but possibly not as stable, then use the Honeycomb-based gTabComb. I use it and have been very impressed with it.
Regarding gTabComb, I am using beta 3.3, and it has been quite stable so far with few reboots and force closes.
Regarding ClockworkMod (also known as CM), make sure you install version .8 and you can get that from here on xda-developers.
You can get either VEGAN Tab or gTabComb here on xda-developers as well.
I have videos on YouTube that show how to install ClockworkMod and VEGAN Tab. Search for user ehunyadi on YouTube.com.
Take care, and good luck!
Hope it will be good for you, My Gtab should arrive in a couple of days.

I'm using 5.1.1 and some times it's flakey (i.e. it's really sluggish if I install a bunch of apps until I reboot, and it needs the .nomedia fix) but overall it works well and I like how it looks/acts with VTL launcher. Gun Bros (Glu) is the only significant app that I can't use.

Brilliant Corners; it's basically Vegan but newer and better, and on the 1.2 bootloader.
Just a couple notes on extra features/items that don't get much mention...
Wifi location: Only works on GB and HC roms
HD Video: Supposedly works on Froyo with full HW Acceleration, but full HW accel doesn't mean much if you can't even open the file. That is to say, so many videos need to be re-encoded to take advantage of the hw acceleration on the stock player, you might be better off just sticking with compressed 720p or 480p (there was a time not so long ago when DVD's were considered the best quality) content, which can play just fine on GB and HC.
Settings: ON many TnT derivatives, the settings app lacks several key controls. Swapping in the stock settings.apk can help to do things like install third party keyboards or access account and sync settings. Details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14566837&postcount=331.
Games: Popcap-Peggle and Plants vs Zombies. I have not found any kernel that plays these games consistently other than one specific one for Froyo:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128866 .
Usability: The handy little cursor location tab in GB and HC is hard to live without once you have used it.
Touch screen: I have found that it is most responsive to touch on honeycomb roms, for whatever reason.. Just anecdotal, nothing i really tested.
A note of personal preference: I have had my gtab for 6 months and still not found a ROM I am totally happy with. I am on a customized version of TnT at this point, and I am about as happy as I can be. I have developed a real affinity for the TnT status bar. I like that it is a little bigger, and easier to press the buttons on. It is easy enough to swap over the standard settings app when you need to use it, as long as you have root. The only thing lacking from my perspective is wifi location and that handy cursor.
Also this is a great thread. Maybe I only think so because I have never found that "perfect" rom. Keep the discussion going and maybe someone will put together a ROM that finally hits the nail on the head...
Personally I would go with vegan ROM the newest version which ever that one maybe, I right now am still on vegan tab Beta 5.1 and I haven't had a single force close or shut down yet.

I see it appears that there isn't a "perfect" ROM that fully works. My question is simply which ROM is the most reliable/stable/fully featured?? I need the camera to work for sure.
I don't wanna try multiple different roms and would like someone to share their experience with the different roms and recommend me a ROM.

Until then, i'm sticking to froyo (Calk+Clem Combo V5) with VTL Launcher. The VTL Launcher gives me HC-like bells and whistles with the stability of Froyo.
gTabComb - camera app
Has anyone been able to fix the camera issue on this ROM?
I have build number GTabComb_b3.3_bl1.2
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Friend wants to update her phone to ICS or jelly bean. I am looking for suggestions to the LIGHTEST and FASTEST rom with the fewest if any bugs that anyone knows of. Theres a decent list here from what i see so any suggestions would be great. I am not looking for ANYTHING fancy or colorful or features. Features are great but as long as it dosnt hinder the speed.
Thanks for your time.
AtrICS v 2.0 by Team Hope is pretty decent. Not much experience with JB except epinter's cm 10.1, so i can't give any advice there either. I'd just download each of the ICS and JB roms and try them out and find out which one works better for you.

In that case, stay with an ICS rom. Most are pretty stable, but will be more stable after kernel development is complete.

There should be a webtop with that rom. I don't quite remember, i was on that rom for a short time before going back to gb.
All other problems should be fixed with 2.6.39.4 kernel development (see atrix dev section, ics/jb kernel thread for dev status updates) and implementation in the boot img. Be patient, they're working on it

thanks
I tried Epinter CM10 and it is a great rom. Smotth, reliable and responsive.
BUT !!!! There is a "but". There is a lot of functions that do not work anymore due to a lack of tegra drivers for ICS / JB... :
- no video recording (except in a very bad resolution 640x480)
- no hardware acceleration so you cannot play your video on your mobile stored in mp4 (native cam format), mkv....
- games will have a strange behaviour (lag, screen scrambled...)
For this reasons, I comeback to Gingerbread ROM and I have a full useable phone !
Make your choice, but You will are not able to get all
If you can get away from the idea of wanting just a JB or ICS rom, I'd suggest Neutrino Rom. Its GB and really stable.
Any rom u install which is not GB is not stable
U can go with Epinter cm10 much stable but u cannot video record using the phone the battery is also good.
On other hand u want everything working u better want to stay with MRom

Standard versions of CM, MIUI, CNA, etc
Advantages:
You're running ICS or Jelly Bean
All the latest apps are available
All the latest security enhancements are available
Battery life is decent
Disadavantages:
No HWA, which means video recording doesn't work correctly, games with heavy graphic demands won't run decently (you can forget about running GTA III, for instance), Spotify won't show album thumbnails, and there will be some screen lag.
No fingerprint reader
Currently available HWA-accelerated versions of CM (such as AtrICS and any ROM running "That Kernel" or "Those Libs")
Advantages:
You're running ICS or Jelly Bean
All the latest apps are available
All the latest security enhancements are available
HWA is available, which means everything runs silky-smooth and beautifully
Disadvantages:
M I S E R A B L E battery life (as in fully charged to completely discharged in about six hours, even if you're not using it)
Video camera still has problems
Still no fingerprint reader
A Tweaked Gingerbread ROM (such as MROM, Neutrino, etc.)
Advantages:
EVERYTHING WORKS! INCLUDING THE FINGERPRINT READER! w00t!
Full HWA
Excellent battery life
The Holo Launcher makes everything look very ICS-ish
Disadvantages:
You're still running Gingerbread
Some apps (such as SoA and XDA Premium) won't work, because they're ICS or JB-only
RaiderDuck, you forgot the lapdock, other than that, your comment should be a "sticky", not that everyone reads them, but it would cut down on the GB vs ICS/JB questions that have been answered over and over.
Hi Guys,
I know my question is probably provocative. But I tried out a few roms:
* Infamous
* CM 10.1 SGHT
* Nameless 4.4
But all of them are not able to play a YouTube video without freezes. Some of them developed extreme lag after using them a while or have strange issues like Nameless - which is actually not surprising at its beta.
Maybe someone can recommend a ROM, it should be Jelly Bean at least. Can live without KitKat. All I am looking for to have something a tad more up to date than the stock one and smooth.
Cheers
Holger

Yes I will...
Well I asked for a rom, but what I am figuring out what I need is a new tablet. Again a 10" because I am reading sometimes PDFs on it, but with a better screen and more ram... and maybe not from SAMSUNG. I am disappointeod that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 not even got JB.
This device has never been very good to begin with. Even the original Samsung ROMs did not run things well. It struggled with HD Youtube videos back then too. The truth is the Nvidia Tegra 2 chip was over hyped.
I finally found a rom that plays HD videos om YouTube butter smooth, is very fast and reliable:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831040
The stock ICS rom, deodexed, zip aligned and alrrady rooted.
My recommendation is, also to install the A1 Kernel for stock roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833136
It claims an additional 64MB ram back, so you get 786 instead of standard 722MB and you can overclock of course.
Together with the Nova launcher and Chrome as my browser I am a lot more happy than with the other custom roms in the past 12+ months.
My pad flies and the touch wiz UI feels more ergonomic than all the JB additions...

I will post later today some screenshots of some tools to have an idea about battery consumption. For me it deep sleeps well and battery is :good: But in detail after 6 - 7 hours of testing.
Back to life
The tablet is now almost 7 hours on battery. I used quite a lot today, but not perfectly reflected by the screenshots because I rebooted once. The battery consumption in standby is around ~2.5%/hour. Maybe even less. I also configured my pad, to turn off wireless when in standby and not on AC.
For me it feels like a new tablet. Yesterday evening I watched reviews about 10" tablets and already checked prices. Today I am sure I will not waste money so soon on a new one. The old Galaxy Tab feels so fast and smooth, fun using it.
Only thing annoyed me is the ICS keyboard, without digits when you hold the top row keys. So I replaced it with an actual one and that works beautifully:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2657791
For the launcher I chose Nova launcher and I am also using the more up to date Chrome browser. I don't miss anything, its more the opposite. I am grateful to have the TouchWiz UI and some of the Samsung apps back.
For all who wants to give it a try. Just do the factory reset e.g. TWRM offers and flash the ROM. I would boot it once and then flash the A1 kernel. After that its advisable to move the contents of the "0" folder back into the root (your pictures etc are not lost of course). Otherwise it might be confusing for some apps or yourself. You can use ES File Explorer for that (Cut & Paste). With Trickster Mod or any other tool, over clock it to 1400 or to your liking. But even at 1000 it runs great!
best battery for me
stock rooted , debloated - ( uninstalled everything i dont need )
i have this kernel running from early editions and stopped at some version , don't know which ,
worth a try - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877784
So which one did you choose exactly....there are several versions of Toldo's ROMs.....

Well I chose the WiFi one for the Singapore model. As it was the singaporean model I bought.... Its a matter of your location and model wifi or wifi/3G which ROM you would chose.
No need to go back to ancient versions, i'm using this right now
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2510198
in addition with some overclock/nova/greenify premium and it is very fast, smooth and reliable, would totally recommend.
Still, I felt a bit sad about KitKat. Wasn't ART going to "make things easier" for low-specs/legacy devices? All i get is hiccups and bad performance :/

It's true, the tablet is faster and more stable with this rom than KK. I'm going to try it for a while
For mi the only problem is that contacts app doesn't load. I have an exchange account.
Thanks for the advise :good:

I grabbed the latest cm10 from droidbasement.com dated from last August and works like a charm sleeping and performance wise compared to how this tablet usually does.
And that is even 4.1.2 which in my opinion has been one of the best performant and smooth version of Android.

Do you have a link for that please?
Honeycomb is the only android version in our tab that can play smooth HD video from YouTube without a single lag.
And among those honeycomb Roms, galaxy task14 is the best.
By the way, omni ROM jelly bean is good, but not good enough to play HD YouTube.

Which recovery are you using??? Tried to flash this with twrp and no dice.....
In my case the P7500 (3g) I went for:
http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/roms/cm10/p4/
All you need is there, the bootloader, the modem, the recovery.
All .tar.md5 files you flash them with Odin in "Download mode" - "(Volume down + Power) + Volume Up". Since I was fully on it I flashed them all one by one: bootloader, modem and recovery. (PDA button only!)
Once you have that flashed, from terminal you boot into recovery, select install from sideload and from your computer with the tablet connected you do:
adb sideload /your/path/to/cm-10-20130825-UNOFFICIAL-p4.zip (supposedly you have it downloaded somewhere when you reach this step )
Later on when you see the tablet boots normally and everything is alright, you can go to recovery again and install google apps for "CM10" not .1 or anything, CM10! which you can get from here:

I am not sure if this will work with Two. It certainly works perfectly with CWM Recovery it is actually right in the folder I pointed out. You should flash it via ODIN. if you do not know how to do this let me know and I will guide you.
Hi there little-biggie users
I would like to know some information from those who use the latest CM11 on Z Ultra.
Does everything work? I mean for example WiFi tethering ... because I read there have been problems.
Is it smooth enough? stock 4.4.4 is very smooth ... some people say 4.3 was better ... I know it is not important, but how much does it score in AnTuTu?
Is it worth moving from stock to CM? I had Xperia Neo before ... so I have experience with flashing etc. ... but I do not have much time now and just want to be sure.
Thank you for your answers :good:

I'm not using CM (I\m building Carbon for the community so use that) but tethering was fixed about a month or so ago. No AOSP/CM11 seems to score quite as high as Stock on antutu, but benchmarks aren't everything.
I will pick Aosp performance over CM anytime.

I seen that two months ago... scores on antutu are so poor on custom roms...

They keep improving thanks to ever-excellent dev work. I tried some benchmarks for the first time recently, and got almost 40,000 points on Antutu v5 with both Slim/CandyKat and LiquidSmooth (optimised CM11 kernel) with pretty stock settings. PAC-ROM scored a bit lower at ~35-36,000 with the standard CM11 kernel.
I personally find Sony ROMs the smoothest graphically, but the benefits of custom ROMs outweigh this for me.
Haven't tried stock, but using latest nightly (not that many commis have been merged since my was forked).
It's very nice. I can only compare it with cm on note 3, but this seems better. I have a small issue with the light sensor, but everything else world fine. Smooth. I'm using ART, and I've had 0 reboots or fc's compared to the other mentioned device.
I've heard that stock is nice, but for the latest and greatest you'll have to run a cm/aosp base? Hopefully we'll see the next Android iteration soon..
I just moved off stock to CM11.2 about a week ago and I'm liking it but there is something wonky with the dialer, when I make or receive a call if I hang up using the red bar it doesn't hang the call up. The red bar turns dark and the person is still on line.
Oh, got one other complaint, the camera is VERY VERY slow to come up, like 30-60 seconds sometimes. I've also seen it unable to connect.
Those are about my only complaint. It's way better than Sony and getting my Root Explorer, Titanium Backup, and Recovery back is worth it.
Marc
Only issue is the camera sometimes forced close .. other than that , battery life is awesome , smooth and fast. On top of this I flashed a OnePlusOne conversion kit and everything works. I like the screencast app. I like this new build.
Theme engines are awesome too...
for the camera see the fix in most of the custom ROM threads
bugs everywhere but not more or fewer than other roms
