Intelligent thoughts on rumors re: SGS3 - HTC EVO 3D

RootzWiki has an article up about the SGS3 (http://rootzwiki.com/news/_/articles/leaks/will-the-next-galaxy-be-the-galaxy-siis-r647) that says that the SGS3 is rumored to have "[front cam] eye tracking [that will will automatically lock the screen when you look away from it] and phosphorescent green pixels (which would apparently appear white to the eye) to save battery consumption"...
Anybody care to chime in on this or flame the crap out of me for posting about a Samsung device on an HTC sub-forum?

not impossible, after all it would be "just" a specialized kinect - but probably it would cost more energy to keep all that computing power permanently up than just autodimming the screen...

It's probably still going to be made out of the cheapest, tackiest plastic around and feel like a kids toy.

Rumor has it that its made of a type of ceramic.

well to be honest i have heard and read lots of rumors about the SIII ranging from a battery that lasts for days, moving to a flexible Super AMOLED screen and up to an ultra-thin mobile that bears ANY scratch and more...
Ah well Samsung decided that they will announce the “next Galaxy smartphone" (which is supposed to be the SGS III) on May 3rd and by then we'll know for sure what are the specs of the new mobile ^^

FOr me personally, it's irrelevent. Whats the point of talking about a phone that I won't see available for another 6-7 months.....Hell even talking about the EVO 4G LTE seems dumb since its not getting sold till June. Way too much time inbetween to even think about it.

It's been confirmed that they are doing an international launch. Everyone is getting it at the same time. Just up to the carriers from there.
Also to another guy on the first page, its going to have a ceramic/possibly metal body, not the typical Samsung plastic.

Yea I know, everyone except the US is getting it at the same time. If its coming to sprint, you can bet you WILL NOT be getting it until Sept-Oct timeframe. Go back and check the time lag on the last 3-4 samsung phones on sprint. All at least 6 months, and some up to 8.

personally I'm hoping it's not to big so hopefully if they go for a bigger screen they can do it with an edge to edge screen as what's the use of a phone that can't fit in my pocket
as for when it's released locally, if you can't wait buy an international phone and put a sim card in it

The eye tracking seems kinda silly for locking reasons. Why would I want my phone to lock every time I look away from it? Now, eye and head tracking for the purpose of viewing 3D objects from different angles would be cool.

This needs to be out of the evo3D thread...

If it had decent specs, I'd definitely buy it.
What if HTC got a contract with him to manufacture it, then added their own goodies, then I guarantee it'd fly off the shelves.

as far a history shows that a niche market is far different from the power user market.
Never seen a top of the line phone initial release in say.. pink
not to mention if the video states that it will no be available next year and it will be using current MAIN STREAM technology ... So I would be thinking dual core 1.2 Ghz. that is unless a major hardware manufacture picks it up. I would be interested to see the outcome, but count me out.

Update for tmo pushed to June. Thoughts?

So I just saw this:

Looks like it will be pushed back till june.
That makes no sense since this seems to be works so well.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you for choosing to force integrity down the throat of the sleazbags in the marketing department...

I said it in another thread and I'll say it again. I have a feeling T-Mobile is holding off on the update so the One S can have the spotlight for another month. They probably figured that people would buy it since Ice Cream Sandwich is a big selling point.

These two tie in together. HTC wants to nail down an update schedule that the One S will have ICS for a while, gathering in sales, while the other phones will have to wait. Also, T-Mobile stores list our phone as 1.5 ghz dual-core, they don't really specify that it's produced by Snapdragon or that it is an S3. Clearly, it would look bad that the One S and the Amaze have the same specs in a simpler manner, without going into specifics.
Some of you folks act like your phone is broke or completely ancient because it isn't rocking the current OS.
There is a leak for ICS, so what is the problem? If you want it so bad, download it and be on your merrily happy way. If not, go spend monies you probably don't have on a device that runs on it. Complaining over and over on something you can't control is beyond rhetorical.
Not like T-Mobile has ever been fast with the updates. This is nothing new......be glad if it comes out in June.

My Amaze (bought in December) has multiple issues that have not been resolved on three separate handsets, and half a dozen factory resets. I'm not "whining" about not getting ICS sooner, I'm whining about not getting FIXES after way too long a wait.
The last word I've heard was, "we're working on a fix," "HTC is aware of the problem," while I continue to wait, and wait, and wait. Like the poor refugees in CASABLANCA
I'm willing to wait longer for solid fixes, and (crosses fingers) a replacement of Sense 3.0 with the much-improved 4.0. Frankly, I've gotten tired of factory resets and handset replacements that flush my progress and scores from games that I've paid for. It's not a requirement that my games are intact on a phone, but jeez, it got old after 12 weeks of ownership of this top-tier phone to be told, "don't install any apps, just use the phone as shipped."
I just feel that I've been made to wait through serial postponements while HTC and T-Mobile trumpet a newer, slightly better line of phones. Clearly, people who've already bought an HTC don't get as much respect or thought than the new customers out there. S'okay, if the ICS update arrives and doesn't fix the problems, I'll know what to do. Root, flash, or flip and get another brand. T'is a pity that modern manufacturers would rather disappoint their established customers while trying to attract new customers. It's a model that has destroyed many companies in the past.

I don't know i was kinda shock its like the shelf life of high end phones around 6 to 7 months then wham a new version. Now I did read that the slll will have only a duel core due to the quad doesn't play well with lte. Maybe that's why a duel core. Idk. One thing I've noticed is the phones are never complete to me. The one x has the quad core great camera but then no sd card. The note great but doesn't have the s4 chip. It's like all the phones have one major features lacking just so u may have to upgrade or move on to the next one.
What about a phone that has
Quad core
Sd card
2gb of ram
Super almoled screen
Lte
Lastest os
Thin
Great camera
Great processor
The ultimate phone all the best of the recent phones. Now that would be hot.

It won't be much longer and this phone will have been out for a year. My next Note will be an international one since LTE is not appealing to me. Bring it!
"Due to its incredible success Samsung has started to work on its predecessor the Galaxy Note 2."
Who writes these things? I doubt predecessor is the word they wanted to use.
Successor must have confused them
I don't buy it, the specs just don't add up. .2" bigger is quite bigger even though it doesn't seen so, only 1.5gb of ram whb the s3 has 2? The processor? Nah its a fake
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
Of course it's fake. Samsung has never stated that they intend to make another Note. It is pure conjecture.
Look what happened when they dropped the screen size half an inch with the S3. All of a sudden it is cool to have a ginormous screen. Hopefully it won't dissuade them to keep it above five inches.
The S3 is getting an SPen (called a CPen) very soon as well. Maybe the next Note will be one of the five Nexus phones dropping this year.
Who knows. Hell the one true fact of technology is you can't really keep up. There will always be the next hotness around the bend. Wow I didn't relize the note had been out so long I guess cuz Att just got it in March/April but i guess it has been out longer internationally.

That's how it usually works. International first and then the Americas. I am surprised the S3 is being released this quickly in the U.S. to be honest. Maybe they are trying to soak up some of the 'would be' iPhone 5 buyers although it is probably more along the lines of supply and demand.

First, it's either written by someone whose native tongue is not English or something... And why would the SG3 get quad core and the revised note be dual core? Just because if the lte thing? Makes no sense.

There is usually a product cycle to the big contender phones. Just like every summer, a new EVO is released. You'll find other phones released between these times. But, you never know. They're already developing superphones that are faster than the EVO 4G LTE.
There might be a new Nexus phone announced at Google I/O next week. iPhone 5 in the fall, and probably another round of Android superphones for the holiday season, probably once Samsung/TI/Nvidia launch an LTE baseband that will work with their SoCs.
Well the latest rumors are that Jellybean will be released next week at Google I/O. You can get the new S3 or EVO but if you plan to see Android 4.1 on it anytime soon you are probably in for disappointment. I'd get a Galaxy Nexus or wait for the next Nexus line which should have similar hardware to the latest super phones.

Cool thanks for the responses. Good discussion.
I am anxious to see the new gnex, but I'm thinking it wont have a large enough screen (even tho the specs will be good enough). Other words, I don't think it will be "better" than the S3 per se, other than getting jellybean/pure android...but never know....
Lastly, the responses to this are actually "grown up" for once - you guys were spot on. Thing is, I was expecting much worse reactions as the question could have drawn out all types of trolls.
Hopefully XDA has turned a corner recently...thanks again.
How about the new WP8 phones that are going to come out around October I think. Huge update to the software from what I have read, multiple core, multiple screen res and size support. I would be very interested to see a Nokia WP8 mobile with their 41mp camera, and Nokia maps. That would be pretty amazing. I am itching to see what comes out.

Unfortunately for Sprint, slow data is the only reason I'm leaving...otherwise I'd consider the EVO LTE more seriously.
Waiting for the sequel to the Rezound on Verizon, then I'm leaving Sprint. I'm assuming this will be released around Nov/Dec. It will likely be based on the One XXL, if it ever comes out.

In that case, wouldn't the S3 be the best choice? 10M sold so far from what I understand...

I don't know. I'm thinking about the S3 if everything is gravy with the sprint model. I'll wait about 2 months and make sure there arent alot of issues. If not I'll prob go with the evo LTE...
been thinking about this alot, since sprint is really good in my area, and I have an upgrade in 2 months...

I have a feeling now that google has their hands on motorola, that they will eventually have a pretty sweet release....more then likely a Nexus. I have a feeling that it'll not be locked down the way it has in the past. Google knows what Android junkies want, and they'd be kinda stupid to not use motorola ideally the way they should. Hopefully it makes it to sprint. Main reason I'm hoping for this is purely for the fact Motorola and Google are AMERICAN companies.
Look at the link in post 2, it's a fake. No XXL

HTC One X5

Man i may have to get a verizon account in the near future and test run this bad boy if the rumors are true.

The form of that phone, in all 3 axes, reminds me a LOT of the OG Evo. Which I love. Rounded back makes it much more comfy in-hand than this phone. And that's a credit I'll definitely give to the new Sammy devices, as well.

exactly what i was thinking and Id actually be ok with running daily with that phone naked unlike my Evo LTE which i must have in a case or I baby it like a fragile piece of glass...
Guess we will see what HTC has in store on the 19th..I was going to go to Verizon a while back but didn't because they didn't have a One Series phone...Here's to hoping not all rumors are BS because i'd like for this to be true so I can finally have some real 4G
Sneak peaks of SGS4 were released today too. I like the square corners on it. They are saying it will be 5 inch as well. Looks good!
I hope Sprint gets this quad core S4 One X5 tho!
Seems cool, I will need to see the full specs before I can say whether I'm interested or not though.
Side note: anyone else getting burned out on the black with red accents? Seems like it's time for a change...

Enjoy locked bootloader on VZ.... They still have a tend to be pita when they want with unlocking and all....
Won't see me flinch at a phone till the next EVO or least next year...won't see 800Mhz LTE in phones till then at least for us...
They slip on the no kickstand on that phone as well...
Also worry about having separate chips running one for the radio and one to drive the device as that will be the case of it does have the quad-core in it rumored... Won't be as efficient as ours which have them integrated all in one SoC...
Also it looks that it has the same number of icons on a screen as ours does now...just more spacing between the bottom row and first set...woulda expected another row being added with the resolution and size change...

SGS4 . That might be worth looking at. I wonder what kind of specs the next generation phones are gonna have, seems the arms race is gonna continue for the foreseeable future

That does look wicked. As much as I've loved HTC over the years, from here on out I'm done with them until they change their bootloader policy. I got S-off, but if I have yo get a replacement, I'm screwed and I'm tired of that BS.

Word! I'll give HTC one more shot. They are heading in the right direction with de-bloating sense, especially with the latest firmware. I also want to see what new features Google will put in Key Lime Pie or whatever the next OS version is.

I'm sorry, I'm an idiot. lol :cyclops:
I just caught that you guys were talking about the G4. I got confused because of the title of the thread ----> One X5. This is what I was expecting to see. lol
I guess that's what happens when I try to read these posts at work. Too many distractions. :silly:

its a concept photo(but backed by some blurry cam shots of a phone that looks pretty damn close)
The posted SGS4 pics are concept too so who the hell knows lol...HTC has some soul searching to do and i just cant yet go back to Samsung after the god damn Instinct...The Evo LTE will suffice for now but i got my eyes open and will not hesitate to switch carriers unless Sprint flips the switch quick enough in the central Florida area.
