removing superuser after ics update - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I finally got the XEU ICS update on my i9100-gt.
but now am stuck with a superuser app i cannot get rid of.
I don't want to root again but want to removed this app
any ideas?

Yes, please someone help. This is annoying me.

Download Android System Info(its free) from Google play. It has the option to uninstall superuser.
sorry just tried it and it does not uninstall.

From within the SuperSU app, go to settings, scroll down to cleanup then full unroot.
SuperSU will be uninstalled.
Just tried it and it works.

Superuser would have been pushed as a system app before the update. The update sounds like its removed root rights, leaving the Superuser app stock.
I don't think you'll be able to remove it without root, so use this guide below, it shows you how to root / unroot your device without flashing kernels. Hope it helps

Can anyone please explain how to uninstall superuser on my galaxy SII with 4.1.2. The superuser app has turned into a system app which I cannot remove and I can no longer get system updates as the samsung "has been altered". I cannot understand the first two steps in the instruction. Can anyone explain them in simple words, or point me to another post where this is explained more in detail .....
Your help is appreciated!!

Theres an option to remove it in the app (at least in the pro version).

Thx for replying! But which "instructions" do you mean? I am sorry I don't understand your comment ....
Regarding flashing, I have read numerous posts during the last days regarding how to do this, and I think I now know how to do it with heimdal (I have a Mac), but the question I have what should I flash?
I understand that I can flash only the partition I need to flash; there is no need to flash everything (less risks). I found the Rom for my phone (I9100XWLSD_I9100OXXLS6_NEE.zip, for Nordic countries in EU) and downloaded the pit file from the telephone. The pit file is a partition table, showing the different partitions of the phone: image, param, modem, factory's, sb1.bin, boot.bin, hidden, cache.img. I do not have all corresponding files in the zip file, but I have read this is no problem.
If the su app has put files in the root system (as reported in various posts), shouldn't I flash the "factoryfs" (=factory file system?) partition? It looks this one holds the system.
Does flashing the kernel ("zimage") do the trick? Or do I mix up what is contained in what?
If I don't need to flash, I would prefer not to do so (little scared..), so I would like to understand exactly what is described in the previous post. Unfortunately I do not understand the cryptical text. It's for sure simple for experts, but difficult for me, not being an expert like the rest of the people in this forum. Your explanations are appreciated !

So, if I buy the pro version, can I then delete all of it, even AFTER the ics update?
Have other people done this with success?
Thx!

Strange Problem with Rooting Vibrant

I have a T-Mobile version of Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant.
I followed a guide here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7150299&postcount=1
I can get into the recovery menu and I can see the option to reinstall packages. However when I press a power button to reinstall packages it seems like something is happening and it takes about 3 seconds and then the phone reboots.
I tried to use titanium Backup and I get a message it can't get access to root. I am assuming that am still not rooted.
I tried rooting with this method two times and it seems the result is the same.
Anyone has any idea?
thanks
Okay who is going to be the first one to flame him?
Have you tried using Ryan Za's OCLF app in the market?

Ignore some of the idiots above me
But that is normally how long it takes.. It doesn't take long at all for it to work. Just go to apps on your phone, and look for an application called "SuperUser"
If it is there then you are rooted, and for apps that require root, there will be a little box that pops up asking for permission

Why are you going to flame him? None of the stickys have been updated with any information regarding root information for JI6.
Some people have issues, while other people do not.
I visit this forum everyday and still haven't found any definitive information about rooting on JI6...just people saying "hey try this" or "try that".
Goofing around without knowing what you're doing is the easiest way to jack up your phone. If he messed it up just following a thread by 'Billy-bob-Joe' then you would probably be the first one to flame him for not asking for help before he tried anything.
Cut the guy some slack.

I had the superuser application even before I was trying any rooting.
I also just tried another tutorial for one click root and another tutorial where a rooting is done from a apk file from within the phone but nothing seems to work.
Some people have the same problem at the one click root thread but there is no answer to that.
Thanks Tarzanman
I am assuming JI6 is a firmware that I have.
As of this post JI6 is the latest firmware for the Samsung Vibrant.
T-mobile is sending it out over their network ("OTA"), but you can also obtain the update via Samsung's (very buggy) Kies or Kies Mini software (assuming you get the software to recognize your phone properly).
It is called JI6 because if you go to Settings|About Phone|Baseband Version
then phones running this firmware will read "T959UVJI6"
Tarzanman thanks for your explanation.
On my phone is actually reads as: T959UVJFD.
Can this firmware be rooted?

Yes, JFD is the stock ROM. You might as well get JI6 loaded on to it, as loading it on after will reset your root priviledges anyways.
Best way to check if you have root is to download Terminal Emulator, open it, and type in SU...

you followed the steps on this guide?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7150299&postcount=1
make sure you DL the file on that thread, and follow its steps!
1) make sure you rename the dl'd file "update.zip"
2) make sure you have the file in the internal memory of the phone, not the SD card
Try it again, and let us know!
I have never had a root problem, though I do find it strange that you had "superuser" prior to rooting.
You have a brand new phone? or did you buy it off the internet somewhere? There's no way new phones have "superuser" on it already.
If you've already tried to many methods, i'm guessing one of those ways you tried installed superuser on the phone without granting you root access (which is weird too)
From the General Sticky (and it works regardless of JFD or JI6):
HOW TO ROOT
justadude had a great post on how to root. Please read his post. I have used this method about 10 times and it always works flawlessly and it's just so incredibly easy.
Be sure you are placing the file on the root of your internal memory (sdcard/). This is possibly the easiest phone ever to root.

I did . I just tried now again and the same thing happened.
It seems like the process went fine. Now I tried to type su in terminal emulator and again it says permission denied.

The phone was bought from second hands. It was locked to T-Mobile. The guy who i bought it from unlocked it and claimed that he only used it for one week.
The phone came with superuser app. It is part of the phone and not a 3rd party application. I cannot remove it. I thought it was part of the stock apps that come with the phone.
s15274n, yep did that at least three times now with no luck.
Just to confirm. I am putting the update.zip file on the root of the drive that has internal memory of the phone, not the SD card. I am guessing if I was putting it elsewhere then the recovery menu will not see it as install packages option.
I am lost. Perhaps the dude that sold me the phone messed something up somehow and now because of that I can't root.
Thank you for helping me guys.
s15274n
Can you tell me something?
When you select install packages how long does the process take before the phone reboots?
For me it takes about three seconds.
It really does not take long at all.... several seconds sounds about right.
Are you renaming the file on your phone, or the pc?
My concern is you are renaming it update.zip.zip (because your pc is hiding the file extension).

I am renaming the file on the PC via total commander.
I am pretty sure it is not zip.zip issue.
Download the file to your phone directly from the thread I linked.
On your phone, go to the filed (sdcard/download).
Long press and rename it using Astro or Root Explorer, etc.
just start to the left of update.zip and delete the name so it's now just update.zip
long press and move this file to sdcard/
go to stock recovery and flash it.
Do all of these steps and tell me it doesn't work....

"EternityProject EasyRootICS" failed on 4.0.4, 6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US

I'm trying to root my Droid Razr using the "EternityProject EasyRootICS" tool but I am having problems. I would just post in that thread, but I don't have 10 posts yet and am not allowed.
What I've done:
1) Restored the phone to factory defaults
2) Followed all the steps from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710871
3) Batch file reports success, but upon going into the "SuperSU" application for the first time, it wants to update itself. I allow this, then it fails.
4) I downloaded "Root Checker" from the Android marketplace and it reports that my phone is not rooted.
What troubleshooting steps should I take? If you guys need more info I can provide it. Thanks in advance.

Most of the problems getting root is due a previous root method attempt (which is fixed the way you followed) or by a not working adb connection.
Glad to hear you figure out.

[Q] Locked/Rooted - Factory restore issue

Hey Guys,
Hopefully someone can help me out here. I have a RMAed TF201 with JB bootloader which I just rooted with the new method. I used titanium to uninstall a bunch of bloatware and pre installed ASUS stuff that I didn't want. Yesterday I decided to do a factory restore and it works but leaves out a bunch of ASUS APK's that I removed with titanium. Now I'm unable to download ANYTHING with the browser or market. I get an error with android.process.media and the only way I can install APK's is using ADB. I figured that I would try to unlock and use custom ROMS to fix this but the unlocker tool gives me the network error that everyone seems to be getting. Here are a few questions hopefully someone can help me with:
Can I put the APK's that I deleted with titanium back in the the System/App folder? (Right now it's giving me a read only error)
Is there a way to download ASUS's recent firmware and have my system restore from that?
Is there anything I can do about the unlock tool that doesn't have me sending back my tablet to have my device unlocked.
Note** I'm familiar with ADB and willing to take any risk to solve this issue.
Thanks in advance.
Mike

I've tried. Maybe i'm doing something wrong when I put it on the SD card? I left the zip file and I also unzipped it. The firmware update doesn't pop up. It looks like the provided file explorer is MIA too so I ADB install ES. I deleted alot of things tabbed with "ASUS" in Titanium, I hope i didn't really screw something up here.
Can someone please send me the basic system apps? I even think I removed the updater! Is there an APK for that? That might solve my issue.

Is there other method allows to install TWRP and root?

Yes y are right. I deleted links. If you want to root y can use: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65188654&postcount=45. It works - I did root Z380C.
@vecino:
I did as described in the above link u posted.
I did a Factory Reset, didnt update.
The fasboot method worked, used it with:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot oem unlock confirm
fastboot boot root-v2-z380c.img
Installed SuperSU, but no idea what it does.
Is it working now?
Root Basic Checker app says its not rooted?
---------- Post added at 01:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:32 PM ----------
NOTE: I've managed to root it using a mixture of https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65188654&postcount=45 and https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...d-10-z300c-t3214802/post65422483#post65422483 .
Solution: It was the SuperSU I had to open up first, running in the background, so it would ask for permission when Root Basic Checker checked it.
@snowseals: Your steps are allright. If you now run SuperSU app what is saying?
It now says it is rooted!

Is it possible to use Xposed on this device to get rid off the ZenUI ?
Xposed - I don't know. Z380 own my kids.
It doesnt have to be Xposed, but atleast I want to make it run more smooth.
1) by removing bloatware (using root + uninstall master app)
2) by custom rom (i.e. Xposed or...) ?
3) any other recommendations? I see Greenify/Amplify being mentioned?
1) Titanium Backup or anything else.
2) Custom rom - unfulfilled wish yet
3) I prefer Naptime - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.doze

Thanks! :good:
1) Titanium I've installed and going to make a backup for System and Apps.
I assume this backup is needed in case you remove something which causes the system to get unstable right?
But if it causes too much instability, like not starting up nomore, how can you run the backup afterwards?
2) I've searched alot, but it seems there is no Custom ROM for Z380C out-there yet.
the_mechanical tried but failed here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71498513&postcount=13
3) I tried Naptime, but it seems not compatible with Android 5.0.2. Greenify it is for me (since Amplify needs Xposed).
the_mechanical has some tips what to disable here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71671116&postcount=15
1) I know what I can uninstall. If will be any problem you can use Asus AFT flash tool with RAW image for rollback - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65929688&postcount=210.
2) Probably not
3) Yes you are right. Naptime is working only on 6.0+.
Thanks for your answers!

I think now I can Root. Because my phone now have another rom . I got this new rom from official Jio Care . I went there because I bricked my device when tried to flash a recovery found from the internet. I tried this flashing because the 'factory test mode' was gone after I tried to root with king root .it was showing a 'no command' error when I am trying to go to 'factory test mode' I did that flashing only to restore that. But it ended in a bricked device. So I had to go there and they helped me. I also asked them for stock rom but they didn't give me. I didn't check king root yet with this rom. The current rom i have is same as yours. Ls 4006.
But I don't clearly think which I had before. I guess that was Ls 4007.

Since you have successfully rooted your device, you are now able to make a full ROM backup of your device. Can you make and upload your ROM and recovery backup here in XDA. ?
That will help many.

So have you uninstalled all those bloatwares from your phone .?
If you did so , you had any problems because of the so-called system app removal?.
I'm asking this because I used to disable all those useless system apps , but as a result this phone was restarting frequently without my knowledge. So I did suspect this app disabling and so I restored all these disableed apps. And then the problem solved. You had any issues like this,?
Now I heard about an bloatware removal tool and I wish to try that to get a rid of this bloatwares.
What you say?

If you still have any apps mentioned above just take it's backup apk using SD Maid and uninstall those apps. So that you can check whether any system instability arises due to the uninstallation.

I'm a little worried because I don't have any stock rom backup so if something went wrong like something I mentioned in the above post , I have to go again the LYF Care . So you please just check whether all those apps mentioned above are removed or not.
If you still have any apps mentioned above just take it's backup apk using SD Maid and uninstall those apps. So that you can check whether any system instability arises due to the uninstallation.
Please check right now and tell me. I'm waiting for your reply.

Ok. And you had no issues?
So Ok. Hope there won't be any problems. I will be proceeding to the uninstallation.

No .There will be no issues. I will suggest you uninstalling through lucky patcher.I found it best for such operations. You may encounter 'unfortunately stopping pop-up messages of applications' .so don't worry just restart your device.I did the same

You would probably be doing so for freeing up some system space.I will suggest you to update app to system(apps like play store, play services and some other useful system apps keep the original system stock app even if you update the application). So you should integrate update to system which will remove the old system app by updated one so you will have much more free space and whenever you factory reset your device ,you will get the updated system apps installed.

I have downloaded those files you have uploaded. I have a few questions about it.
Did you ever tried to flash it to phones other than yours. ?
If you have done it, did you flash it using just fastboot or used any other special software?
You have also provided a twrp recovery. But that recovery doesn't have boot.img and system.img missing. That doesn't seems okay . Are you sure about it ? Please check it.
How did you root your device?
I been trying Kingroot for a while but it's not working for me.
My build number is LYF_LS_01_12
I am also planning to build a custom ROM based on the stock ROM because in the latest update, they made the icons look really ugly . Also it will be a practice for me learn custom ROMing.
But before I proceed, your suggestions would be helpful for me.
So please make some time to answer those questions above.
Once again thank you very much for your effort to upload those files with that slow connection.
Very thank full to you

Not flashable ????
I'm no developer yet but I thought you are. I was so happy when I see those files. It's sad when you says not flashable.
But okay , I am learning about flashing and custom ROMing and I will do my level best to help you guys.
I will be soon starting a new thread with full details about those files given by you. Let's see what Devs here talks about it. I really need to root and custom ROM it. Only problem is that I don't have any other phone for testing. I got only this one for all of my needs. I thought you already flashed it in your phone.
Anyway, thanks for your help and let's see what I can do.
Bye. See you .
