Not sure the development forum is the right place, but it's the only forum that is Xperia Ray related. I wanted to say that I bought a 64GB microSDXC card, reformatted it to FAT32 in my computer, and my Xperia Ray accepts it just fine, all GB's are there.
I mention this in this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25023349#, but that is not an Xperia thread.
See attachment.. (sorry, can't find screenshot on the ICS beta, still waiting for the release in my country, or an image that I can flash from my mac)
I was not patient enough to fill the full 64gb with the SD Card Tester, but I went up to 33gb, so past the 32gb limit.
wow, that's good news
ps : screenshot in ics : hold volume down and power button for a second, and voila
Nice, my 32 is pretty full but I'll probably wait till the price drops.

Nice man
but the 64GB card price is too expensive to me
This is great news! Which brand of the card are you using? We can perhaps maintain a list of supported cards for the ray.
The memory card I used is:
SanDisk Mobile Ultra 6 MicroSDXC 64GB
By the way, the SD Card Tester indeed reached a continuous write speed of 6 MB/s, in agreement with the card being "Class 6". Initially it peaked at something around 10 MB/s.
there was a recent drop in price for this card to USD 69.50, and i was about to purchase it, but change my mind and got the new sandisk mobile ultra class 10, i will still get this sometime next week.
if anyone needs to know the speed.

You can't format directly from the phone, the option is unavailable.
With Win 7 64bits, you need a software in order to format the micro sd card (example : EaseUS partition master home edition)
You can
I can confirm I formatted my SanDisk SDXC 64GB in the phone (gingerbread at that time). I was and I am still not able to use my card using the reader connected to Win7 directly, but connecting throught the phone works as expected. Great thing. Really looking forward to 128GB
You guys listen to music on ray a lot or what?
Taking a lot of pics and still not used half of my 4GB class 2, but I will move to 8GB class 10 one for better speed.
Glad to know a 64gig works on our ray, I thought it could only cope with a 32gb. Foggy I have a 32gb in mine atm but only have 9gb left, yes I do have lots of photos and videos and music lol

Actually you can use command-line to format any media bigger than 32 GB to FAT32, just type cmd in Start > Run a then
format X: /FS:FAT32 /Q, where X: is the letter of your phone's memory card

hi!
I want to buy a new microSDHC card.
There is the A-DATA Turbo microSDHC 8GB, Class 6 (AUSDH8GCL6)
the Transcend microSDHC 8GB, Class 6 (TS8GUSDHC6).
the SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC 8GB, Class 4 (SDSDQY-8192-E11M) --> is now Class 4 only? wasn't it class 6? -- http://geizhals.at/a330503.html)
I searched the forums, some say the A-DATA is better and the Transcend is quite slow / buggy - but some also say the A-DATA card is slower and buggy...
Some benchmarks / tests on the Hero would be cool
All I can say is I have a Sandisk 8gb Class 6 MicroSDHC card and it does its job really well.
I'm using a Transcend 16GB Class 6 MicroSDHC and is performing quite well.
Does the SD class impact much on the speed of the phone?
Thanks
Phil
I've managed to convince myself it does, I've noticed my phone has been more responsive since upping to a Class 6 card.
I've seen people say that the swapfile is on SD, hence why it seems more responsive. However, knowledgable people have replied that the swapfile is not on the SD, and it can't.
It will obviously speed up anything that accesses the card, though

It was when I got mine. Looking at the (stock) pic, it still looks like a 6 in the top-right, no? I think the site has it wrongly labelled.
shame on sandisk for not giving perf figures on their website though.
there's a good site for SD (not microSD) & CF benchmarks here:
http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/reader_report_multi_page.asp?cid=6007-9438
it's mostly for camera-types, but there is a USB reader section that should test the raw card. again, not for microSD, but gives an idea, perhaps.
I don't think using a class 6 card is that much faster (or even at all) than using a class 4 card. I can't see any difference in speed in the UI - only in load times.

No, this is a site for price comparison - I've been at 2 shops and they both had the ultra card and it was class 4...
one shop had a class6, but on the package it said class 4. (and it was very expensive)
I think I'll go with the transcend
that's very odd...
Sandisk Ultra speed
Hi,
I got my Sandisk Mobile Ultra 8 GB SDHC card yesterday.
The web shop where I bought it said Class 6, but the print on the card says Class 4. I was obviously disappointed, but as I transferred my old data to the new card using the supplied (really handy) card reader, I achieved a constant transfer speed of about 13 MB/s.
The phone does seem a bit more responsive now, although that may only be psychological. It is definitely faster in Albums and Music, though.
Best regards,
Martin Wiboe
Changing the SD card
Hello Guys,
i am new to this forum, so i hope im posting in the right place
My hero came with a 2GB card, which i used now for a while.
Now i got a bigger card, to switch cards can i just copy everything from the old to the new bigger card and plug into the phone? Or do i need to reinstall something?
many thanks for your help
Arek
Format the new card in-phone first to ensure compatibility, then you can simply copy everything over from the old one.
many thx for that, will try it soon

Which is best 32GB memory card for Neo V..
n is the Phone fast with 32 GB card or getting Lagged??
i'm not getting any lag with my 8GB (class 4) card. 32GB will do good
Let me give you an advice.
To the best of my knowledge a 32 GB sd card will need more power to work which means it will draw more power.
Also it depends from whom are you gonna buy it?
Sandisk? (if it is sandisk then BUY IT)
Also at the store ask for its class.
Just something about classes.
A class 4 card IS always going to give you at least 4mb/s write speed.
Although this is not always true.. (i bough a Kingston class 4 16GB for 8.5 euro XD and it is working fine but it mostly runs with 3mb/s it is slow but it was the cheapest and bigger)
The higher the capacity of the sd the slower random read write speeds.
So if you are planing to move many apps on your sd i do not recommend anything class 10 like.
But if you mostly need it for gaming/music/movies then for CLASS 10
Oh and always but sd cards from the web they are way cheeper than from stores.
(my Kingston from a shop costs 16Euro -mostly like every card 1Gb=1euro)
Buy a card with a high speed class.
Take min. class 6 or class 10.
Buy a card from a well know manufacturer like kingston , San disk or Samsung.
I use a 16 gb Samsung class 10 and the write speed is fantastic. 12 mb/s.

The answe is yes and no.
What 32GB ?
A 32 gb class10 sandisk wont slow it down.
A 32GB CLASS 4 KINGSTON WILL SLOW IT DOWN
it depends on the cards class and company.
a kingston class 10 VS sandisk class 10
would lose sandisk creates very fast sd's
If you are willing to pay a lot of money then buy sandisk class 10
IT WILL BE EVEN FASTER THAN WHAT YOU HAVE.
It depends on everything!.
Also android doesnt use the full potentional of the sd card.
You will need to root your phone and use an sd booster app to unlock your cards MAX SPEEDS!
For 32gb class 10 is must. Otherwise video recording, playing HD videos etc will lag.
I use 8gb class 10.
toshiba 32gb class4 no lags so far
Exchange of files between the computer and the phone affects the importance of speed
Class 10 is a must. Im using imation 8gb card. Images and videos loads and saves faster cmpared to lower class.

Previously used a transcend 16GB class4, the speed difference isn't that much, but you'll save a few minutes when making a CWM backup. (I went from 9 to 6 minutes).
But it was just €3 more than a class4 card, so worth the price.

Everything is working very well
Hi guys, i have a great (for me haha) doubt.
I like to record a lot of videos with my smartphone, like to have a lot of music and heavy games when i wan to, but my micro sd 8gb class 4 isnt enough.

Additionaly, i have an offer for a sandisk ultra 32gb class 10 (refferential link) Does Wt19i support this memory?
What do you think?

According to the user submitted CrystalDisk Mark benchmark scores, that card should be excellent. And that's a really good value as well. Myself, I'm waiting for cheaper price on the 64GB MicroSD.

The newer SanDisk UH1 cards are an exception to rule. They have excellent small-block random write speeds. (A link to CrystalDiskMark scores may be found at iamafanof.wordpress.com) My son's been running CM10.1 from an external SanDisk 64GB microSD card for over a month and hasn't had any problem with racing-car games from the PlayStore.
I've been using that card for the last 4 months. Haven't had a problem yet, it's blazing fast for media I put on it. Despite having over 5,000 epubs and pdfs, over 5,000 pictures and over 100 videos sent from phones. I install apps onto the internal though. So haven't tested any of that.

I have a UHS 1, 64GB SD card by SanDisk (I know it isn't the 200 like you asked) and that works quite well.
I'm sure you have looked into SD card speeds (or have knowledge about them), but if you don't the UHS class 3 is the fastest.
I'm guessing to be able to use the 200GB one you would have to partition it, however I aren't entirely sure.

I have a Samsung 128GB EVO SD Card, which is UHS Class 1 and it works very well indeed, I will also attach a benchmark for your reading pleasure :good:
P.S: I should add that my Xperia Z2 still thinks that using the SDCard (Internal) is better for 4K camera than the external SDCard1 (Samsung EVO), assuming the internal is much faster as it is on-board chip.
UHS-1 or Class 10, are very similar with write speeds on Z2. I have tested UHS-1 and UHS-3 cards, the difference is about 12mb/s in write speeds on Z2!!!!
I have UHS-3 and I record 4K video directly on SD without any delay in saving, reading or writing! The inbuilt 16GB as well as my Sony UHS-3 card have same speeds in writing.

As previously stated 128GB
I am using a Sony branded 64gb. I had a PNY 64gb and it had problems in this phone and two others. So I am staying away from PNY from now on.
I saw that there are 256gb micro sd cards. Is it fake or it can be real?
Yep and they only have up to 200GB

I have a sandisk 128 gb cx class 10 in my z2 and all works flawless
I'm looking at a Samsung SD card from Amazon Canada. Most likely 128gb. The only reason I'm leaning toward Samsung is because they're water, dust, xray, magnet, shock, everything proof. And they have great reviews.
Every card of UHS-3 category is fine. Sony or Samsung or Strontium, all work well. Maximum writing speed on Z2 won't be more then 20mbps in any condition.

So does the phone really support UHS - Class 3?
I have this sd card on xperia z2 but for some odd reason its causing the phone to reboot. I don't know if its the sd card issue or the the phone. The phone wasn't able to write some of the data on it during my last tour during photographing. A lot of the stuff was corrupted. I came home and wrote stuff on it and everything is being written without a problem via those sd card usb adapters. Anyone know what might be going on?
Any card above UHS-1 is useless as Z2 won't be able to get read/write speeds on UHS-2 or higher.
However they will be useful if you frequently copy data from PC to card with a card reader.
Anyone tried 200/256 GB card?
GSMArena states that Z2 can support up to 256GB (info by them or Sony), but here You wrote that officially it's max 128.
Thinking about buying one, but it will be in a week or two, so maybe someone tried and can say it works or not before I will test it by myself?
