(poll) where are you if you have problems with the leak - HTC Rezound

Normally I live in the NE area but I recently went to Florida for a few days. Normally my phone rarely gets above 120, maybe it's hit it 2 times since launch day. When I was in Florida though it was hitting it almost daily. I know it makes sense because it's so much warmer but I'm wondering if that is what is causing all the problems.

I live in SC and this winter & spring we have had weather in the 70s & 80s.
Regardless , my phone overheated only twice when our 3G & 4G went down at the same time and we were on 1X.

In Florida it was high 80s and I never had my phone reboot because of heat. It just started blinking. I was also always doing something on it like netflix or playing a game when it heated up. I even had no problem listening to pandora on the beach with the phone on the sun even though I could feel the heat.

SC is actually hotter most of the time than FL in the warmer months.

I'm in Florida, and that could be related. But I think it would have more to do with coverage than with ambient temperatures.

How HOT does your EVO 3D get?

I was using the phone for a while and noticed that it was getting quite hot. Signal strength was poor where I was, and I left the 4G antenna on despite the fact that the phone was gunning at 3G.
Mines remained cool, and I have been using it heavily. It may be the 4G radio that's is making the phone hot.
Low signal areas = death to battery.
I used to have a blackberry tour 9650. That badboy could run almost two days with relative use.
I go into a deadzone at work and my phone would start warming up and getting super hot trying to find a signal.
It would go from 100%->40% in about an hour and a half (with no use of the phone whatsoever since the damn thing couldnt get service) heheh
Now I know when if i'm in an area that has shoddy service, straight to airplane mode for me.
Today [using battery indicator Pro] my phone got to 100.4 F
It was pretty hot, battery was drained quick but now my phone is a cool 80.4 F
mine got up to 111.2F today... I'm a bit worried about that. Granted I was in a low reception area... thats still pretty frickin hot IMO
mine gets pretty hot but only when expected, 3d stuff or lots of 4g or high intense gaming
Just about all phones get hot when they juice up the antenna in an attempt to improve signal. The solution is to go into airplane mode... unless you need signal.
I think I could fry eggs on mine, when I'm at work.....but my Hero was the same way and my son's using that phone now 16 months later, so I'm not too worried.
Mine stays in an OtterBox Defender and it's still cooler than Ice T locked in a freezer.
mine doesn't seem to get as hot as I could get my EVO4G.
mine gets hot sometimes after streaming or charging for long periods. but so did my OG Evo
111 sounds really hot. Probably close to a reboot. I don't think I've ever got mine over 104.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I had mine plugged in, in the car with google nav going and it hit 120 and then stopped charging. the battery cuts out when it gets too hot and the charging light starts flashing still works well though
i guess this is whats going on with mine. we have been having a lot of tower problems in my area.. i think they are updating for 4g or something but last time i called 4 towers where down...
today my battery drained fast!!! i dont know how long it took but it was at 59% around 13:30 or so..... i also noticed it had rebooted since i checked the up time.
this never happened with my OG Evo and we have been having a lot of problems with towers here.

Heat

I noticed one person mentioning he had gotten a phone which got real warm but he turned it in and got another that ran cooler.
This is my number one concern because it us the reason I am in need if replacing my incredible.
How warm are your phones getting (such as when running 1x or a heavy game)? Please speak yo because I want to make sure I don't live through this again. Thanks

To answer your question, I was just streaming the Jets/Broncos game from NFL mobile, tethering 4G to my computer and downloading a file at 4 Mb/s, browsing the web on my device, and doing some heavy texting. Battery is fine, phone is a little warm, but not near as hot as my Inc got.
The only time I've noticed mine getting really hot is when I'm charging it.
mine gets warm when i'm using it for like 60 straight minutes in bed before i fall asleep. the hottest it's hit was 40 degrees c, which is JUST as hot as my incredible used to hit when i'd do the same exact thing. but it cools down SUPER fast when you stop using it and lay it down on a table or something. i'm not worried about it.
the main reason for a phone getting hot is antenna issues. if the antenna is struggling(communication wise), it'll cause it to work overtime in an attempt to pull in a decent signal... and by doing so, causes the battery to get really hot.
it can either be the phone or the area you are in has signal issues. I'm assuming its signal related since you mentioned 1X. next time you try a 'heavy game', put your phone in airplane mode and see how the temperature is then.
It is nowhere near as hot mutlitasking as the RAZR is sitting on the VZW shelf idling!
When I first got it and was setting everything up, it did get pretty dang hot.
It's a warm phone at times.
My DInc would get very hot if I used it while charging. It would eventually just shut down completely and I couldn't do much with it for a while. I returned it for one that didn't shutdown quite as often.
I haven't had much heat problems in the limited time since I've had my Rezound.
I noticed that when charging the DInc while talking on the phone, or using the Nav it would stay cooler if I removed the silicone case. That got me thinking. Silicone is a pretty good insulator. We use to make mitts to remove stuff from the oven.
How much of this overheating problem are we creating with silicone cases?
Is tpu the same as silicone, heat conducting wise? I only use tpu.

I have used the Rezound and currently testing the Razr:
Rezound gets warmer due to nowhere for the heat to pipe out. The Razr pipes through the display to keep it from building up. The Rezound gets warmer, since not piping the heat out. I tested the Rezound with my 32gb card and after streaming Flash via 4G and playing N64Oid, the Rezound inside was HOT. Easily as hot or hotter than my Incredible would get with GPS on (that is toasty).
Both device get hot at some point, since 45nm LTE and both using dual core SoCs. The Rezound appears to get hotter, but this is more to do with nowhere for the heat to go.
We will be dealing with the heat and battery life issues until 28nm LTE chips are in devices mid next year (we can hope). The second gen chips should ease the current issues.
Note: The Rezound does not get anywhere near as warm when only using 3G. The 9600 LTE chip is a cookin' inside.
Which is my concern my dinc had severe thermal issues and bootloops once the radio overheats which is about ten seconds into a 1x session. It is simply horrible. I must get a new phone but am concerned about living though this again.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
man, you must've had a bad inc then. my inc NEVER got hot and bootlooped or shut off once in the 1.5 years i've had it.

Phone seems to be overheating.

My phone gets really hot when using the data connection on the phone. When i surf the web, video chat, or do anything that uses the data connection the phone becomes hot. it also happens when i play games too. it gets hot around the lower part of the phone around the area where the home buttons located. Just wondering if this is happening to anyone else before i get it exchanged. The highest temp i got was 104 Degrees F.
i cant say for sure what temps are safe. i haven't done the research. but my wife and i both will notice the bottom getting pretty hot when pushing the phone. surfing & gaming. not so hot you cant touch it, but much warmer than any of my other droids iv used in the past.

i just played dead trigger for 10-15 minutes and now the phone is at 95 degrees lol. Idk if thats normal.
My phone gets hot at the bottom, as well.
Hopefully Samsung will make some firmware changes to better regulate clock speed according to temperature.
My phone gets really hot also towards the bottom when just using it for anything. Then again it doesn't help I'm in +100 degree weather and outside all day and night.

Yeah, just like in desktop computers, ambient temperature plays a big part.
Mine gets very hot as well. I'm on the 2nd one too. Its just because it is a very slim design, coupled with a strong processor = hot.
Gets a bit scary when playing a game for 20 minutes though..

You can change the clock speeds with SetCPU, because they're set pretty high on stock, 1.5 Ghz max and 1 Ghz min.
Mine gets hotter with regular use to heavy use.

This phone might get awfully hot in the summer.

I haven't used it heavily today, nor very recently, but the battery is up to 100ā„‰ degrees right now. It's a pretty nice (read: comfortable) temperature in the house too.
So I have to wonder just how hot the One is going to get when summer rolls around and it's in the 90sā„‰.
I'm not worried about it right now, but for those of you in climates that are hot already, how is your phone holding up?
FWIW: the aluminum must disperse the heat pretty well. The temp dropped by 3 degrees while composing this message. So that's pretty nice.

Dude this isn't a baby with a fever. Stop checking its temperature and just enjoy your phone.
And to think the weather outside would affect the temperature of the phone is kind of stupid.

It is kinda a valid question. My Lumia 920 would get so hot that if I made a call, it wasn't comfortable near my ear. It has been in the 80's here, and no problems as of yet. I have noticed that for some reason on both of my devices, the app Viber heats them up quick, that's the only one I have seen do this.
Unless you plan on leaving it on your dash, it won't matter too much. Its not a PC in a hot room.

If you don't think the weather outside will affect the temperature of your phone, you're more than welcome to leave it outside in the sun in the middle of July

When these new high end phones get hot (I think the One is an internal temp above 34C) they start to under clock the processor and the GPU.
So yes heat WILL effect performance.

Sarcasm is not adding value. OP raised a very good question. My HTC phone used to have heating problem too. It is very annoying in the pocket in a hot summer! !!

The construction of the phone acts like a heat sink drawing heat away from the components. I was told. So mean yeah it would get hot but not really affect the phone itself.

This worries me never had this issue with note 2. Should I go back or forget about the heat and let the phone melt?
Oh I am POSITIVE this will get nowhere near as hot as my Verizon Galaxy Nexus did....I can already tell and I have only had the phone for a day. Even just texting and doing some random playing with it to get used to everything..its pretty cool..By now my Nexus would be frying my ear if I had a call
All electronics are affected by heat..but if this is any indication,,,,it will be warm..but not enough to fry an egg on!

I used mine today in 100F in the sun, I took over 100 pics with instant upload turned on. It got pretty warm, but just under too hot to use. The phone didnt seem to mind the heat at all, it did everything without even a stutter.

Try using your phone while doing something intensive, like playing a graphics intensive game. It gets pretty hot.

I did, and it was hotter when taking pics and uploading them at the same time.
Also check if nfc is on. On my wife's she was complaining about it getting hot. Once we turned nfc off it stopped getting hot. The only time I notice mine gets hot is when I have gps on, playing ingress lol

my phone has never heated up.. its weird it gets warm at times but thats about it..never gets to hot to the touch.
When you play games the phone gets very hot but so does sgs4. In fact every android phone and I had a lot of them got hot when playing games except note 2.
Room/outside temperature doesn't affect the phone temp? So if it's 90 degrees in your room your phone will battery temp will be 74 like it would be on a 70-75 degree day?

Phone Gets Warm In Pocket

Any notice this? I'll slip it in my pocket, and it will be at around ambient temperature, next thing I know my pocket is getting warm. I'll pull the phone out set it on the desk then it cools down to ambient temp.
In my pocket the screen is facing my body.... is the proximity sensor going nuts or something? Could it be the radio? Any way to figure out what the heck starts drawing power when its in a pocket?
Are you in a bad signal area or something? Might be searching a d that could be why.

Or check and see what's running on the battery info setting or an app. Could be it's running just enough to get hot in your pocket, but has sufficient cooling when on your desk. Usu if my phone gets warm in my pocket, it usu means I've left something running that's polling the GPS (and burning up the battery).
No issues here.
Better than my Galaxy S4.
My galaxy s3 did that when it dropped to 3g and the radio constantly searched for lte. I do not see that as much heat up with g3 as the s3 but i get about same signal. My office is a low signal and drop frequently to 3g.

Been doing a nightly reboot and haven't had the problem since. Only drops battery when I use it now.
I'm having the same issue with mine. It stays between 35 and 35C according to CPU-Z. That's in the mid-high 90s in Fahrenheit. Also it stays warm no matter what I'm doing

Is your CPU idle being kept awake? Do you have a battery saver program on there that can insure it underclocks your CPU and kills programs/wifi while asleep?
