Nandroid stuck trying to backup cache. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just came across my first downfall with moving the dalvik to SD. Nandroid is stuck trying to backup cache. Im guessing the reason is that nandroid cant find the dalvik because it is not symbollically linked by S2e since we arent booted into the actaul OS. Anyway i can get nandroid to backup without moving it back?

anybody?
Also, i can mount cache in CWM, but not sd-ext. It says error and kicks me out to home screen. Also i tried to view the last_log with file manager and it says it doesnt exist.

i actually have the same problem. please help..

Theres nothing too repare this, the problem born when you make a nandroid backup ,try to flash another rom or wipe data

[Q] How do I unbrick my phone caused by an App?

Ok I'm using Samsung Galaxy Mini Android 2.2
just rooted today....
what's going on is I have used Type fresh App to change my fonts
it worked great at first but it only changed some of my fonts (such as my time)
and nothing else (such as menu)
so looking around I thought I had to set font for everything that are listed on the app...
which I did...
and then it required reboot and now it won't go pass the loading page
which is just samsung logo...
is there a recovery mode for this?
or is my phone just gone now......?
please help.. I bought this phone just a week ago....
p.s. I don't know if this is the right place to post this thread but please help I can't sleep.. and my local time is 2:33am...
OK... I got to the point to how to turn the phone on in recovery mode.. what next...?
oh oops,
my phone is t499.. i thought that was galaxy mini...
but guess not
but still please do help
Do you have a recent backup to restore? I hope you made a nandroid backup before you started changing fonts. If that is the case, restore the backup and you should be good to go.
Good luck.
Clear dalvick cache and cache first. Before you resort to restoring.

and I only hve samsung restore util -for BML- (Android system recovery)
I tried both wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition
but i keep on getting this,
-- Wiping data...
Formatting DATA:...
Formating CACHE:...
unmount (/cache) attempt 1
(Unknown error: 0) rc=0
Data wipe complete..
-- Wiping cache...
Formatting CACHE:...
umount (/cache) attempt 1
(Unknown error: 0) rc=0
Cache wipe complete.
is there anyway to restore?

How do I clear dalvick cache and cache? I bought my first android phone (which is this phone) like less than a week ago so I'm rly noob at this.
I tried everything listed here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153310) but none of them works and the one click unbricker doesn't even install on my pc (windows 7 x64) even in UAC...
help please.... thx
also I think i found a recovery image file
[recovery img] and [boot img]
how do I load them on my phone?

Can't Restore Nandroid backup. What shall I do?!

I created a backup because I wanted to try a mod ,I didn't like the mod because it messed up the system UI.
So I tried to restore the backup however I ended up with the Samsung logo flashing?
I advanced restored the boot image and the phone started but all my apps were force closing , then I tried the full restore however the /data section wouldn't restore because it was corrupted
what's my best option? I've currently decided to boot to the nandroid menu and go on wipe data/factory reset , the phone has restored and I'm restoring using Titanium Backup. This will bring back my user apps I think?. But is there any way to restore wifi passwords and bookmarks and calendar appointments?
Hope this makes sense and thanks in advance
I am pretty sure that by signing into your Google account it should restore your WiFi passwords and bookmarks automatically

Before flashing anything.. go to recovery wipe cache and dalvik cache, when done "fix permissions" ,this option is located in advanced menu in recovery. Now reboot.
Use "titanium backup" to backup BT WIFI and other settings.
Ps. Don't restore system apps, only the app data if absolutely necessary.

I agree with zodiaxe66's suggestion always try something like this before you just go flashing away.

I've used Mobile Odin to flash the stock LFB .I've done this before perfectly.
But this time once I load the file the:
Kernel,Recovery,System,Cache, Modem and Hidden are filled in
Param and Data are clear.
And I tick:
Enable everroot .Inject SU ,Inject Mobile Odin.
And I select
Wipe data and Cache
Wipe Dalvik Cache.
Then I select flash firmware.
the mobile Odin screen pops up and it shows the progress when it flashes the
kernel recovery system hidden
and wipes the dalvik cache
However the Message App still force closes!
could somebody please help me out ? I'm getting proper stressed now

Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .

Did u download the additional file beside the app itself. Either from mobile Odin thread or if bought it from market, then turn on wifi and open Odin again and u be asked to download additional file.
remember to grant superuser permission.
Update from the idiot, partial success achieved .
I ended up flashing the stock rom using odin on the desktop then I flashed CWM recovery rooted supersu etc
Then I started the phone, memory card is intact, however phone memory was wiped. Luckily my titanium folder is on the memory card. So luckily I was able to restore the apps and data. No force closes now
The stuff I lost on the internal memory was music (now restored) camera pics (most restored thanks to dropbox) ringtones and bookmarks.
However I have much more free internal memory than before, so I was wondering whether I could be missing an important folder or something than may cause issue with apps or is there anything important I might have lost?
Thanks once again for helping an idiot out

No your probably not missing anything
Important in fact when your phones internal storage was wiped it very likely got rid of the traces of any file that could cause problems.

I think if you long press on the options that are green it should bring up a list of options such as backup, restore, etc. try that and see what happens.

Yes if you have the pro version of titanium backup you can schedule an automated backup that backs up to dropbox or Google drive I believe.

error while making backup of data?

so im having trouble making backups in CWM based recovery 5.5.0.4. It always gets to backing up data, but ends with "error while making backup of data/"
Ive cleared up 9gb of space on my external sdcard and that didnt work. Ive tried the internal sd which has 6gb. Ive wiped cache/dalvik and fixed permissions and still I cant get a full backup.
any suggestions? I read somewhere that i might need to format my sdcard, but then shouldnt my internal sd work?
any help would be much appreciated.
Looks like you have too many apps saved within this backup image.
Look here, reply #9
Try to backup from a lighter image to see how it goes.

yeah i just posted a similar post ... and i tried another recovery and still same issue
This new idea is taken from senior member Immix:
I think it's a problem in the backup using this CWM version.
Get Jokersax's recovery from here, and flash it with fastboot.
Now, flash the ROM you want without any data or cache. Clean everything and make a clean install.
Get Titanium backup and restore all your apps from the backup file you tried to use first. Just select "Import from Nandroid Backup" within Titanium backup.
Source
sounds promising, ill give it a shot.

How long does it take to full wipe, install new rom and restore apps+data?

Hey guys/girls.
How long does it take you to do a full wipe, flash and restore? I've only ever installed one rom and was wondering how long it takes.
Also what is the process invlolved in how you do it?
Is it backup with titanium then go into cwm and Wipe Data / Factory Reset, Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache, Format System partition and Install rom. Then get titanium and restore everything?
U can use TitaniumBackup to backup apps and restore them when u flash new rom. I rarely use it. I do cwm backup of complete rom and then install and try new rom from scratch... U can do whatever u like.
Averege time for things u asked is aprox. ~10-20min..

Just out of curiosity, you didn't flash the jb leak provided in this section, didn't you?
If you did chances are high you got a full brick.
Are you able to get to download mode (volume down + home + power)? If yes, flash a stock firmware and try again.

In my experience, Titanium Backup should be used sparingly, It IS totally brilliant, but, depending on the ROM you are flashing from/to is like trying to shove a square peg into a round hole, it will go in, but it ain`t happy about it.
Also the amount of time it takes depends on how many apps you have installed.
Before you actually use Titanium, it is a wise idea to go into the preferences, and make sure the "migrate system data" and the "restore app external data" boxes are ticked. (should be default setting IMO)
From a fully app`d ROM do a full backup of sytem and user apps, but when it comes to restoring them, restore the apps only, the restoration of app data should be done selectively, and the most common system data(contacts, call logs, sms history etc) are usually highlighted green.
Then just use your phone and any time you come accross an app that is missing its data, restore it on a "per app" basis.
All this may take a bit longer than the 15-20 mins quoted, but rarely more than an hour.
This has been a reliable method for the 50 odd times I`ve flashed my SII, and the 20 odd times I`ve flashed my SIII....Hope this helps
I was just on I9300XXDLI8 and due to missing picture and music I decided to wait for the official.
Odin the Original Image 5 minutes
Wipe Data 1 Minutes
Phone Initial Setup (with usual play and gmail account) 3 minutes
FULL restore from Kies (119 apps and all other data) 35 minutes
Usual Play Store update for out of date apps 10 minutes
Took a total of 54 minutes.
AJW
Use Go Backup. Titanium fails to do auto restore often, resulting to a manual restore of all your data with Titanium backup using install, enter, done, install, enter, done' repeatedly.
Go Backup restores all without a single problem

A little cautious here maybe, but TB backup, boot into clockwork android backup, format system and data wipe cache / dalvik. Flash rom, restore apps but no data from titanium then restore data for a select bunch of apps (banking apps which require authentication and similar) restore call logs, sms via TB. Total time approx 1 hour.
