Hotspot? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know I'm probably going to get flamed but I'm on cm7.2 rc1. Will I be charged for tethering if I use the hotspot for my laptop?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA

Well tethering isn't free so if you're carrier catches you then yes they might charge you for it or just warn you to upgrade to a tethering plan and charge you if you keep doing it. It's all a matter of if they catch you or not. Many people have been warned, some luckily for unknown reasons have not.

That's what I figured. How about foxfi? Does it cover up the hotspot use?

There is no 100% way to hide it, you take a risk every time you tether no matter the method

Tethering apps that work

Anyone know a tethering app that works on the tmobile gs3. I I've tried foxfi and wifi tether (root). And I can't use the original one that came with the phone because they want me to use the tmobile hot spot and I do not want to get rid of my data plan.

1. Please put [Tmobile] in your title, so us AT&T, Sprint, US Cellular, & Verizon users don't waste our time in here and so that you don't get misleading responses.
2. I found a solution for my AT&T device by downloading FoxFi.

How do I tether running super nexus JB

Hey guys, I was have been trying to figure out how to tether my internet via WiFi hotspot on my phone. When I was running the official ICS from Samsung I used foxfi and it worked with no problems. Well now I'm running the Super Nexus ROM and foxfi won't work. Any solutions / alternatives?
Thanks, Dev

you should be able to turn it on. in phone settings in wireless and network select others then select portable wifi hotspot. it is there you have to find it.
I see what you're talking about. Will that go against my ATT contract?

Yes and no. Some people have had success tethering without ATT finding out and charging extra for tethering.
So far I've been ok.. on both iphone and android so I was just making sure doing it this way won't raise a red flag.

I have pre-rooted and deodexed rom found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1935570) installed on my UK (bought from t-mobile) S3 LTE and tethering works a treat.
Ive got quite abit of different mods on mine practically like a new rom and tether also works great obviosly if we have that option then it should work and if it doesnt its either a software bug , network, or faulty phon. Or even the other device thats connecting to it.

Contact your service provider | by calling 150, and perhaps option 4 for technical support, as EE may have this option disabled for you by default, I have yet to check if mine works because i just ordered this as an upgrade (Everythings Unlimited!) for only £41 a month LOL
i am tethering right now and i am shocked as it is very fast even tho i am near the ocean and bushland./Lake but i am on 3G , as there is no 4g coverage out here yet. You would spin out if you knew where i was . Its 12am I am in front of a MASSIVE lake in a tent near the bush and just to see if i could, i hooked up my mini netbook up to my i9305 and all i can say is AWESOME i have now been on a stable connection for 1 hr. who needs a hardwire connection when you have a S3
Hehe i better get off now and get back to the nature haha. cya

Not sure if you can wifi hot spot without root, but for tethering with your USB cable, a few options exist.
My old fave from back in my Treo 650, 700p, 850 days was PDANet. Free, for 30 days, after that free for non https sites. One time $15 to register for https sites after 30 days. probably some completely free options but over the years for how badly I've abused my unlimited data with this program I certainly got my money's worth...lol.
Thanks will definitely check these options out

Oh I am sorry. It will be in Q/A section.
It doesn't affect your phone whether you keep 3G turned on or not. What matters is the way you manage batteries.
