I recently bought a Vodafone Xperia Mini Pro (SK17i), had it sim unlocked and had been using it happily for a few days.
2 weeks ago I accepted a 0.62 FOTA update. This (of course) bricked it!
I read a lot of threads here and tried several reflashing and recovery tools (SEUS, PC companion, S1Tool, Flashtool with generic 0.58) over the next week which all seemed to fail to do anything.
Today as I was charging it before bringing it to the repair centre it turned on by itself with 0.58 firmware. However it will not recognise any SIM cards from various different networks, and each time it turns, it is like it is brand new as it has forgotten any language settings previously saved. Checking the service menu using *#*#7378423#*#* shows that the sim lock list values (Network, Network Subset, Service Provider, corporate sim) are all 0 and Bootloader unlock allowed: No.
When I bought it I checked the service menu and I could unlock the bootloader and there were still 5 sim unlock attempts allowed.
What happened and can it be fixed? I haven't unlocked the bootloader so should it still be under warranty?
Did you remove sim lock yourself? How?
And was the phone branded?

I got it sim unlocked at a mobile phone accessories and repair stand.
I am unsure what you mean by branded. It didn't any carrier logos printed on the device but it did have several un-deletable apps for the original network provider.

Branded means that phone has apps or some other stuff installed by the operator. In your case, it is indeed.
So, your sim was unlocked together with bootloader, else it shouldn't have bricked your phone.
What happened when you tried to install stock firmware with Flashtool?

It's simple.. (it happened with me too): you need to unlock your phone again, to rewrite the TA on your bootloader.. Use fast GSM or wotan Server, and your phone will work again and the bootloader will be unlocked too..

@Someguyfromhell: When I tried to install the generic firmware with flashtool it proceeded as expected. The messages on screen recognised the phone and began flashing, after a few minutes a message appeared saying it worked successfully... but the phone still refused to turn on. I tried this several times over a few days. I basically abandoned it for a week then when I charged it again before I was about to bring it back to the repair place it turned itself on.
I will try to reinstall the firmware again when I get back home tomorrow and post a more complete log of what flashtool says.
@LuisDias: I have heard of WotanServer but didin't want to risk the 15Euro cost if it wasn't the right thing in my case. I have not heard of FastGSM I will look into this!
Thanks both of you for your time

Hi All,
my brother just got an Xperia X10 (without warranty) two days back, and it's been restarting itself over and over again sometimes.. sometimes it simply does not charge, and sometimes sim goes un-detected leaving "activating phone" on the screen.. whenever i re-install the os, the problem goes off for few hours then it comes back again. It has the R2BA020 update and whenever i run sony erricson update service, it shows me as the phone has the latest firmware so i always have to stick with R2BA020 firmware. I am thinking may be an upgrade to the phone might solve the issue with the phone. But i'm being unable to upgrade to any firmware like R2BA023 or R2BA026. I know R2BA026 has a wifi issue.. but at least 3G works and phone works..
Any help anyone? Thanks.
Sounds like it is the phone that is the problem and not the firmware revision. I and many others here are on R2BA020 with no issues.
You say that you have done a reinstall of this, was it the repair installation through PC Companion or SEUS? Later FW releases are only available if the network releases it or if you are rooted and dependent on what Firmware you rooted with (Generic, Combi, etc... and from what country).
for the phone faults i would try a new/different sim card first.
what network is the phone on ? is it branded ? your network might not of released the latest updates yet
why does it have no warranty ? SE offer a 1 years manufacturer warranty that goes off the serial no
If you're on Rogers I believe that was the latest (and first) firmware update. You won't be getting an updated version if that's the case.
It's bricked now
Hey Guys,
Sorry for the late reply. I was expecting to have email alerts if someone replies, but i had forgotten to enable email notifications apperently.
Whenever I got that problem, I used to re-install the firmware and then it works for a day or maximum two. but couple of days back, phone just went down while using it and when i tried to repeat the firmware re-install process, either SEUS nor PC companion detects my phone version. "It says device could not be identified. try again later". I tried to root the device and it fails with this error.

This is not a branded phone. I bought this device from someone returned from UK and he got this from T-Mobile UK. (at least thats what he said).
Code:

do you mean i have the warranty despite the fact that i'm not using it with t-mobile and i'm not the original owner?
any suggestion to unbrick this device is highly appreciated.

The warranty is country specific I have found. Contact sony of canada and se if they will foot the bill, otherwise you will need to ship it to the UK for service I am afraid. Is it a Xperia x10i ?

Thats basically it, i got a xperia ray off a auction site, and i suddenly got loss of signal. The phone was originally vodafone but i was using it on o2 so i thought the bugger had it blocked so i checked the imei with o2 and the police and its clean. Vodafone say its locked (it was unlocked) and want £20 for a code.
Ive tried numerous sim cards in the phone including vodafone and i keep getting error MM#6 which is supposedly a sim activation error.
Now heres the annoying part, ive done factory resets, (i was on stock FW no unlocked bootloader etc), repaired the FW through SE companion, and found online that if i unlock my bootloader this has cured similar problems. Not worked, so i also installed CM7, same thing. Ive also tried SETool but havent an idea how to use it so thats a no
Thing whats getting to me is I am still getting data through O2's cell network, so i think if the phone was not sim unlocked, then this wouldnt happen.
Any help greatly appreciated.
WELL I KNOW I DID A HUGE MISTAKE AND I M AN IDIOT AND I HAD TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST
i had the "NOT RECOGNIZED SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE" but i tried to unlock my boot loader using the-laser's (x10_bootloader_unlock.exe)
and now i ve lost my signal
when i look for network operator it give me all of them. but it cant connect to my netork operator .sim toolkit is still working
it look like he dont recognize my sim card . WHAT SHOULD I DO
ps : pccompanion dont work
You will need to contact @THE-laser to fix that for you. One price for both unlock sim and bootloader.
are you saying that i should unlock my sim ?
!!!!!!
Relock your bootloader. What tool u use to unlock?

Wow..... That was a mistake. But however, you should lock your bootloader back, Another thing you can try, BEFORE you search for a way to lock your bootloader is making sure your phone is actually "Unlocked" Sometimes you run a risk when you unlock your bootloader that your phone "Re-Locks" Witch sucks, and is another complete pain in the butt battle. But its the price you pay for not paying complete attention to whats going on. Go through them steps and get back to me.
saying tyvocc
And how to relock it ? can i have a tuto or something ?
i tryed with setools it says : nothing to restore
I have x10i and i have done the bootloader unlock with flashtool, but no matter what sim i put in they can all find networks... but none will allow access to networks no matter what sim. Im from SA and i every time i reboot im asked to insert sim... already have... and on boot please insert simcard and restart. Might i add that i put my wifes vodacom sim in and no luck... i put one of those red voda sims in which is blocked then on boot it is recognised but the sim stops the boot requiring a puk number cause the sim is blocked. But my point is that the sim is noticeably recognised and wont boot the phone further unless puk code inserted. But even so i want the phone open to all networks. I have messed round with s1tool but when it tells me hold control then choose firmware im lost... cause i push control and nada happens. I see there is generic for za and sa and there is a voda sa branded one when i use flashtool to run that. I have used all the sa versions i can see or am aware of... could i be missing something... im using generic world firmware version 2.1 update 1, Kernel 2.6.29, Baseband 2.1.54 and build number 2.1.A.0.435... so what to do?

How to re-lock a bootloader !!!!!!!
Same problem with me
To re-lock the bootloader you are going to have to download the latest flashtool and use the restore option. In some cases this has helped some people get their network back but in others not.
I am one of the unfortunate ones. I also have an x10i which i have recently aquired from a friend but after upgrading to 2.3.3 it has somehow lost its ability to read any sim card i put in it. There is absolutely no network lock on it at all and i see grey signal bars as if network is there but it never ever registers a sim card and permently stays on emergency calls only.
My phone i do believe was on a contract from t-mobile in germany but if i type *#*#7378423#*#* in to the keypad it quite clearly states that their is no locks on it at all.
I am quite clearly baffled as to why this is happening on an unlocked phone, and if anybody who reads this can help please send me a message
Hello all!
I was trying to unlock my lil brothers Xperia X10.
Bought credits in FastGSM to use their unlock software
The phone was full stock and never was updated.
First, i used PCCompanion Repair Mode to fully upgrade the phones firmware and leave it full stock.
Then i used X Unlock Tool 1.6 (from FastGSM) to unlock it. Phone was without any SIM and computer was not running any other program.
The process was succesfull. I inserted the new carrier SIM, the "Sim Locked" message not appeared but i was without signal. So i tried to put the original SIM again, it was perfectly working, full signal strenght. It work with original carriers SIM but it wont work with any other carrier SIM.
Did the unlock process again, problema was the same.
I did a search in this forum then tried this:
I re-locked the phone bootloader with S1TOOL
Then went to PCCompanion and did the repair again, leaving the phone full stock again.
Then i took out the SIM, charged full baterry and unsed the unlock tool again. Problem was exactly the same.
Won't work with other carrier SIMs but still working with original carrier SIM.
Any idea?
Hi everyone!
I bought recenly on an outlet a Xperia Mini Pro sk17a. The phone is network locked, so I tried to unlock it through FastGSM service. The instruction guided me to do a test-point in order to unlock it. The process failed since the server was under maintenance. Now, the phone says that there's no SIM (It detects signal, so I guess the antenna is working) and everytime I choose a network to connect (on manual search, or even automatic) it ends up in an error, claiming that the SIM is not valid for that network.
It still has the original Android Gingerbread on it (since I couldn't update it either) and worked perfectly on 3G until it did the test-point process. I also tried to reset it several times prior creating this topic.
Can you help me on figure out what's the problem?
Thanks in advance.

I have the same issue with wotanserver and the only solution is to do the same procedure again and thats cost money of course.
One year after successful unlock my phone got the same issue with the sim card and now I don't use it anymore.
