I think they should have one button like that but the lock screen does kind of the same thing...

What kind of functionality would the hold button have that differs from the lock screen? They both act the same way, so why put an extra button on an android device that isn't going to be used?

you can contact the service provider..........

What different is when i watch youtube and accidentally press the screen or the button the video still plays

So, if I have correctly understood your wish, you would like the power button to stop running applications when the screen is locked or at least to stop YouTube and music playing.
Though I am still making the first steps into android's knowledge, I think the only way would be rewriting the single apps in order to tell them to stop working (killed? Frozen?) when the screen is locked. I suppose that's their behavior in ios. On the other side, it would be a no way out remapping the power button so that it could close all running apps or some of them, because a bunch of Google code should be rewritten to modify its standard behavior. Another solution could be remapping a physical key for it to launch a single software (still to be written) whose aim should be to kill o freeze the above said applications.
IMHO it is so simple tapping on the running app and pressing the power button that no developer will ever spend a lot of time to build a solution like the ones I have just spoken about and, though I see it's a matter of taste, I think it would be better accepting android as it is

A lot of programs already has that. I think MX player has a button that locks out the control

Oh yes, it is true. I had never noticed that feature!

Do MX player lock works on all apps or only when you have mx player running
how about when you browse and watch Flash movie on flash website
I am looking for ways to prevent accidental button press ..
pressing the power button turns off the screen as well.

It's not on all the apps. But some do, like MX. Maybe this stuff should go on the android design site

you mean each app developer has to keep this in mind?
maybe I can suggest to youtube, skyfire and dolphin browser app to add the feature
other reading app .. where you can spend a long time on one single page.

I think YouTube kindaa has this. Where I think if you don't see the controls any more, you have to tap the screen once to activate the controls before you can use them.

Seems SE has some sort of dual screen lock. if the screen turns off running the app im talking about here and locks it works fine but at some point not sure but guessing 5-10min if the phone is left longer then that then the default slider lock is back as active and you still have to use it to get up 1 step for screen tools to get active again. so again ignore this post since its inaccurate!
Ok ive been looking around here and on lots of other forums and sites trying to find a app or a way to not being forced to use SE default slide lock. And ive tried all the suggestions ive found like No Lock app and pattern changes on the phone ect.
But nothing realy did the job all the way, and if you´ve every used your phone outside when its cold you know why i wanna get rid of that crap, and pressing a real button almost allways works compaired to touchscreen buttons (not to mention its still a pain indoors too)
but ive finaly found a app that works if you set it up the way i have (but thats all personal ofc you can set it any other way but these steps need to be marked).
App: Screen Tools 1 just search app market and you´ll find it and its free.
the way ive set it up works like this: you press the Home button twice, 1 press opens screen and you can just check if you missed a text or a call ect but the screen is still locked, press a second time and its open ready to be used.
Pic 1 is from the topp and pic 2 is just the last missing bit at the bottom pic 1 missed

I did and naa didnt do it for me. i dont like toys that can run every app in the house or control the subway, dont you know less is more? i just wanted a small app that would do just that 1 thing im after to be able to use a physical button and since you still have to hit home button to activate
screen 1 more push to unlock is just right
im running xhawkings optimized stock ROM and thats just perfect in my mind perfomance without all the 30 billion options in settings and apps that ppl nowdays seem to love. if i didnt need some apps to keep my days and life in order id still be using my old text only Nokia no cam no MMS nada was just perfect. but yeah i hear ppl like that one too. but naa no point running a app that has loads of options when i just need 1.
PS: i forgot that GOTO still runs a slider just what i DONT want and is still on touchscreen so how can it be better?

Shake or Volume Wake?

Sick of mashing my power button all day. Is there a non-root method of a shake or at least volume wake/unlock? The one thing I really miss about my iPhone 4 is that one button in front that I didn't have to hunt around for.
Install a different lock screen like go lock or something similar with the volume wake option

Thanks, but that only works with Go Launcher EX... Hoping for a solution that's standalone.
Widget locker has that option
Lockbot also.
This function holds a wakelock btw. You coukd see a huge difference in battery life

Thanks! I tried these... Lockbot just doesn't work at all on my Note. No lock functions, regardless of method. There are some complaints on the play store about this, so it might be a bugged rev.
Tried Widget Locker before and it was such a clunky mess that I deleted it. Couldn't find any shake to wake feature, but if it really does need to be a wake lock that drains the battery then it's not worth it anyway.
Maybe someday I'll switch to the an International model with home button.
Have you tried SHAKE 'N ON WIDGET, it works on mine, just gotta put the widget on HOME screen

I used widget locker when I was on stock. Pretty sure you can disable stock lock screen under security settings.
You say it was clunky, but I never had problems with it. It did take a bit of tinkering to get it set up first time perfectly. But volume wake worked on stock Rom if I recall. It's also one of the only ones not just trying to sell ridiculous themes which is sometimes refreshing. There are huge theme that's on xda. Tesla is a good dev. Also devs one of the best launchers, nova.

[Q] Resizing Android applications (NOT resolution)?

Hi everyone.
I was wondering if there's a way to resize an Android application. I don't mean resizing the resolution, but I mean literally resizing the application so it only fits part of the screen.
Given the flexibility of Android I'd imagine this is possible, even though it would probably require root (isn't a problem for me).
You might be wondering why on earth I'd want this - well, simply put, it would be fantastic for multitasking. Nowadays there's a whole load of popup applications on the Play Store. But if say I run a popup video and browse the web, whenever I scroll to the top of the webpage, then half of that webpage will be covered up by the popup application. It quickly becomes more of a hassle than it's worth, because I'll have to keep moving around the popup video.
But if I could just force the browser to only take up half the screen, then I can very easily multitask with them.
So is this possible? Thanks in advance to anyone who has any info.
There are a few multi-tasking apps on the market but trust me, they all suck. I also have been looking into this and apparently this is harder done then said to have something like Samsung's Multi-Window.

That's a shame. I agree in regards to the popup apps though, it seems like anyone who makes them has no clue what even 'UI' means, haha. But irregardless it'd be really handy for this, since there are one or two actually handy popup apps.
So anyone else know of a way?
Why don't you use pie controls?
Edit: What kind of "multitasking" are you looking to do exactly?

Here's a good example of what I mean:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As you can see half the screen takes up for a notes app, and half the screen takes up the browser. What I'm looking for would be something similar, or in the case I described, a potentially easy fix - shrinking down one app to only take up half the screen and using another popup app to take up the other half of the screen to mimic multitasking. It doesn't have anything to do with Pie.
Understand what I mean now?

[Q] Power button instant lock - how to turn off?

Hi, got HAM2. Very impressed. Wish it had Qi, but aside really good.
Q: How do I turn off power button instant lock?
Android always has this option, but for some reason I can't find it in settings!
In my MT2-L05 EMUI3.0 it's in Settings/Security/Power button instantly locks.

Wow, I just tried it myself and I get the same problem. Good job, Huawei...
Ya... and I'm having a hard time finding a module. any help would be appreciated
My HAM2 doesn't have this problem. I have the Delayed Lock app from the play store which modifies the locking though. I've also frozen the hwunlock lock screen since it was interfering.

Happy to hear. Also if you want to clean up the notification, the Delayed Lock app can still run if you hide it's notification (long press on it then uncheck show notifications), it still works fine and the Notification bar is clean. Mine is set to auto lock after about 20 mins from when I turn off my screen and I also created a shortcut on my home screen to instantly lock it and turn off the screen (have to set wake to lock mode in the settings of the app). If you want to a shortcut like that you can do this in Nova Launcher (or something similar in other launchers). Long press and empty space on the homescreen. Choose shortcuts then delayed lock shortcuts then Lock now (which also turns off the screen).

[SHARE][APP] SwiftOpen - Fast Launcher

Hello. Yesterday, i was searching for an launcher (NOT a home launcher} which allow me to run apps more quickly from any app I'm running at an moment.
I found this app named SwiftOpen. It's thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-swiftopen-fast-launcher-beta-t2871523 .
It allow you to add apps shortcuts, even some settings like wifi, so you can put wifi on more easy. You swipe from right (you can change the place from where to swipe) and the launcher come.Read the whole description of it's thread. Oh, and don't forget to press thanks button to the developer
Review / My opinion:
In my opinion it does a great job. I don't even have to press home button to go in another app. It use about 15 MB ram. Last night i had 58% battery and i kept this app running in background and today, in the morning, i had same battery percent. So, it seems that it doesn't drain battery.
Now i don't even need to use the home button, as i placed an shortcut of "home" in the bottom left
I downloaded the latest version released. I encountered one bug: when i want to change the place of an shortcut, the app crash, but the shortcut get moved.
Here is an screenshot. You see an white square in the right, it's because i kept my finger there to take an screenshot, otherwise the launcher dissapear. By the way, you can add more shortcuts, even Tasker ones !!!

btw i doubt that our SMART phone will stand this kind of multi tasking if i have FB installed
Also found this app recently, it's the best launcher by a long shot. I have a G4 and I hate the softkeys taking up screen space, as you mentioned this app means you don't need any other buttons or home button.
Thanks for the tip to put this launcher in the place of the home button, I had it on the side but now that you mention it that's naturally the best spot to put it.
Do you use it on Lollipop and use the Alt-tab feature?
That's not working for me on 5.1, think it's a lollipop issue?
