Hi all
I am thinking of getting rid of my Galaxy SIi to get one of these. One of the ones I have seen to buy is locked to T mobile so I was wondering if it is possible to unlock these phones as I am on vodagone. If so is it a fairly easy procedure?
Thanks
Impossible at the moment. XPS is a mighty fine device so try swapping w/ some1 or something similar
Impossible? I'm chatting with my phone operator (Telenor) about operatorunlock-code. And as far as I know, the operator-code will make the phone accessible for other operators.
But the issue I got right now is there is no place to enter this long operator-code
I mean: impossible to unlock by yourself if operator doesn't allow unlocking or bills it insanely, and you don't have the money/don't want to pay such amount.

Put in a different operator's sim card and restart the phone.
It'll automatically ask you for the code

I didn't happen to have a microsim from another carrier so I decided to cut one up. For my first attempt I did a pretty damn good job since my phone recgonzied it!
Got prompted to enter an Unlock code.

try this !!
My problem is that when I use a SIM from another carrier and boot my phone up, I do NOT get this: “SIM network unlock PIN” message. My phone only says "SIM card is locked" and want me to type in PIN.

Seems your SIM card is locked. I remember old phones gave you an option to add a pin code onto the sim card itself. There was a warning that if you forget it you're screwed. Try getting a new SIM from the carrier

So i got my unlock pin from T-Mo but it always says my pin is incorrect. I have had them send it to me twice and it still doesn't work. Do I have to run a stock rom or something?
I unlocked mine from quick sense, just put different carrier Sim in when phone when asked for code, entered, restarted all was fine

if you try three times and still doesn't unlock, you cant unlock it anymore using a serial number. so if you have tries 3 times and all were unsuccessful then forget about it. call tmobile ask for a replacement phone and unlock the new one they will send u.

Its not even prompting me for unlock code though.
don't need a new phone just a new sim card. same thing happened to me and all i did was use a brand new sim fresh from the card and it asked for unlock then boom. Now i can use it on almost any gsm provider.
hey everyone, i'm about to buy AT&T Galaxy Note through Craigslist.
seller states that it is unlocked, but not rooted. is there anyway for me to verify it is unlocked?
is it simply inserting my T-Mobile SIM card and making sure it doesn't say phone is locked, enter network lock control key, etc...?

Yes all you have to do is insert your sim and it will either connect, or you will get a prompt to enter the PIN. If you want to use 3G/4Gish though, you will have to root and flash the t-mo radio that's in dev section.
P.S. With most Samsung phones, you can check for the unlock by dialing *#7465625# and it will tell you directly if there's a network lock on it, but Samsung disabled this on the skyrocket IIRC and kept it disabled on the note

perfect. thanks for the quick response!
When I inserted a tmo sim into mine nothing happened except for it would show the sim phone number under the Settings app. No signal bars either. This is on a stock unlocked phone.

You might have to wait a few minutes for it to acquire the signal.. Is the sim active? Sometimes inactive Sims don't connect, but I put my old t-mo sim in & it had a signal in 20-30 seconds.
Easiest way to tell is to reboot the phone after you put a non-at$t sim in. If it's locked it will ask for network control key .

Yeah it was an active sim. Ten minutes later with no results. It wouldn't work without the APN at all and the Tmo rep didn't want to go through all of that (it was his sim).

It is that "simple"..
If you insert your non-AT&T (including it's MVNOs which are considered AT&T also), and it's LOCKED, it will ask you for the unlock code. If it doesn't, it has been unlocked permanently.
If after doing this, it does show your number under about, but you don't get a signal. This might be an indication of how well the phone gets a signal or how good/bad the signal is, on your carrier in the area you are testing in.
An after thought is to check the versions in the about and research. You may have acquired a hacker/tinkerer's phone that may have played further with the phone's settings and or flashed a different modem. It may also be indicative of why s/he is selling it, possibly faulty.. YMMV
You have to flash T-Mo compatible modem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1573568
thanks everyone. i bought a note from someone an hour after my initial post and it was unlocked.
i'm enjoying this phone/tablet/phablet/whatever u wanna call it on tmobile. still getting used to the size, but the display is beautiful.
Quick question. I was online paying my bill this morning, and I saw a link under my device that was labeled Sim Unlock. I clicked the link and it gave me a pin and unblock code. Is there anywhere on the device, possibly in the settings that would allow me to put this code in for unlocking the SIM slot?
I was under the impression these were SIM unlocked from the factory.

I was under the impression that it was a reset in case someone accidently got locked out of there sim and was not to enable other carriers (could be wrong however)

That sim unlocking is you security pin and puk codes if you have password on your sim card/4G sim. It has nothing to do with global /gsm Sims.

I have been using ATT service on this i777, now going to China and will be using their carrier for a long time. I learnt I have to go to either China Mobile or China Unicom if I'm to stick with this device. However both carrier's SIMs resulted in "SIM card not provisioned" notice and it's not working.
I am wondering if calling ATT helps, or I need a SIM unlock code, or I have to install a custom ROM to somehow bypass the SIM check? Or even more? I love this phone so I don't want to buy a new one here in China.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Your phone needs to be sim unlocked. If it is not unlocked already, then by far the easiest route is to call AT&T to get the unlock code.
oh I'm sorry, I think I already unlocked it (spent a few bucks and got the code on a website)
I put in China Mobile's SIM and entered the code in the prompt box. Do I still need an unlock code from ATT ?

Thanks for the reply. I replied you above but didn't quote.
If the phone is already sim unlocked, then you don't need to unlock it again.
I've never gone through the unlock process, or traveled over seas, so I'm not the best person to answer your questions. I think "not provisioned' indicates that the sim is not activated, or that the phone is not set up for the network, or something like that. You may need to input the correct apn for the network. Maybe you could go to the carrier's store and find someone who could help you?
Maybe someone with experience will jump in and help.

Hi, I have a galaxy s9+ 965F and I was running a T-Mobile sim, the phone was working fine for about a week now all of a sudden when I boot the phone up it's saying invalid Sim please enter code PUK. Can anyone enlighten me on what happened to my phone and is there anything I can do to get it back working? I've called T-Mobile and they gave me the PUK but it doesn't accept it, I've called samsung and they send me right back to TMobile.

Try seeing if the sim card isn't seated correctly. You can do this easily... Power off the phone, remove the sim card tray and making sure it's in the tray correctly. Then reinsert the sim card try and power on the phone.
If that doesn't help then for what ever reason the phone became sim locked, so you need to contact the carrier whom the phone came from and ask them for the code.
T-Mobile won't be able to give you that code unless the phone came from them. I would be careful not to enter the incorrect PUK code in to many times in case it ends doing some sort of hard lock or disables the sim card.
