[Q] ICS 4.0.3 problem with swype !! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey there,
Yesterday I've updated my UNBRANDED SGS2 (NON-ROOT/STOCK ROM) to ICS 4.0.3 over kies. Since then I have a problem with the swype keyboard.
Almost Everytime I enter a app (whatsapp, sms ...) or just the memo and want to write sth, swype switches between the NUMBLOCK & the normal keyboard of swype. For this time THE HOLE phone doesn't react when touching it.
After few seconds: Over the notification bar I can switch to samsung keyboard, then i'm back to homescreen!!
when I reEnter the app to write, its all gone and swype/samsung keaboards work propertly.
Is there somebody with the same problem? Or just can give me an advice ?
PS: ONLY for last resort I'll do a hardreset & reinstall ICS with the hole apps.....
I hope for answers & any kind of help !!
best regards from Berlin, Germany to the hole community

Hi Alex, I found this site and your post after searching the same problem. Unfortunately I can't offer any help but I thought I would let you know you are not alone with this. Fingers crossed someone on here can give us advice.

Hey,
i have the same problem with the stock-ics-rom on my S2. I have only one possibility for you til now. But therefore you need root. If your phone is rooted, then uninstall swype with Titanium Backup, AppMonster or something like this. After that load new swype on the homepage of "swype beta" (ask google^^) and install it.
Until now it works fine.
greetings,
Sizilianer42

@alex2787
What you could try is downloading the beta version of skype and install it on your SII.
Maybe that will work and I can tell you that the beta versions are better then the stock versions due regular updates and the possibility to download differtent languages to your swype.
Link: http://beta.swype.com/

dont want to wipe, than as post above said.....
root use root uninstaller / or root explorer remove swype.
now go register on beta.swype.com and install that.

yep...you're right! I Did overlook this message on the beta swype
How will this work?
Easy! Register with an email address accessible via your mobile device and receive a link to download Swype. If your phone came pre-installed with Swype DO NOT download this beta (it won't work).

probably similar problem here
Hello,
I have experienced a similar problem after updating to ICS (LPQ, then LPS; my i9100 is unbranded, no root, stock roms all the time).
What solved the problem, was to set the Background process limit in the Developer Options (4 processes). Since I have set this, the problem did not occur and it was a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday I set the limit back to standard just to make sure and the problem occurred again.
Anyway, I don't know if it works for you, but it is worth giving a try.

Same issue
Hi there,
I have the exact same issue. After upgrading to 4.0.3 my swype is buggin out.
- I've deleted swype with root rights
- Installed Swype demo via the website
- Cleared Dalvik cache
- Changed the background process limit in the Developer Options to 4 processes
Nothing helped?! Can somebody please help me with this?

hey there,
thx for the answers.
i didn't do anything till now (only to kill some times all of the background processes), but the problem isn't anymore!
@peze01:
hmm, all of the answers are logical to me. maybe you have to try (the last chance) and to do a hard/soft reset ?

I've not got the same problem as you, but swipe somehow today used 56% of my battery, and discharged it in 2 hours !

I have the same problem. I installed ICS and have done a factory reset/wipe cache and the problem persists. At one point it even came up with a swype error about the package not being for my resolution (this is a stock unrooted S2). Some times Swype seems to be in a tight loop even when not being used and the OS monitor app has it continuously using about 46% of my CPU. I usually spot this when the phone seems to get hot for no reason. Restarting the phone seems to be the only way to fix it otherwise it rapidly drains the battery.

Hi there!
I've got exactly the same problem with the Swype Keyboard and ICS (using MIUI v4).
Which Version of Swype are you running ?

same problem
Hi,
I have the same problem as alex2787 and it's driving me crazy! Can't find a fix anywhere, Have hard reset, cleared cache, the works, but problem persists and using slideIT, which is not doing it for me at all and the Greek dictionary is awful.
Swype version: 3.26.92.38235
Firmware: 4.0.3 Vodafone UK variant
Any suggestions much appreciated!
Thanks,
Digital909

i've already solved the problem! but i really dont know how .... -.-
i swiched sometimes between the keyboards (swype/samsung) and restart the phone ...
since then, there is no looping anymore!

Thanks for the info - can I ask is your device rooted or did you do this on an unrooted device?

Have to be rooted, then make a backup using Titanium Backup Root and a uninstall.
On Swype website make account and follow instructions from mail
First time i did it I missed language download and only had Spanish and English (so read instructions)
Second time everything was fine both Dragon and update works.
Don't know whats going to happen next time I flash a firmware ... fear that Swype from firmware will break Swype Beta ... anybody have experience with this?

The problem seems to have gone away for the moment. Since the last time I did the swap between the Samsung IME and Swype keyboard to get around this it hasn't reoccurred, similar to alex2787. I don't think its fixed by any long shot.
My current setup is :-
Swype Version: 3.26.92.38235
Samsung Galaxy S2: GTI9100
Android Version: 4.0.3 (ICS)
Baseband Version: I9100XXLPR
Build Number: IML74K.XWLP3
Kernel Version: [email protected] #3
Stock O2 UK Firmware Non-Rooted

I have exact the same problem even since updating (with Kies) to ICS (4.0.3) on an unbranded/non-root S2:
Occasionally when using Swype it is switching between numlock and normal keyboard. Need to change to Samsung Keyboard and restart app to make it work.
Also, I've noticed that Swype sometimes uses an unusual amount of battery, draining the phone.
What I tried:
* Factory data reset -> Didn't help at all.
* Revert back to GB with Odin -> afterwards couldn't startup phone properly, so:
* Reinstalled ICS with Odin -> Swype didn't work at all (gave the message "Unfortunately Swype stopped working")
* Clicked on all options containing 'wipe' in the recovery/download menu -> Swype worked again, but original problem still occured
* Rooted the phone, so I could delete Swype (with Titanium Backup) and install Swype beta.
Still after all this the original problem hasn't been solved!
It's driving me crazy. I haven't had any reason before to use Odin or to root my phone or anything.

Hi
so today i updated my vibrant to 2.2
my phone was rooted before and had oclf
and i read somewhere that i need to unlag fix and uninstall EXT2 Tools
however i did uninstall EXT2 but i could not do that for lag fix saying that i don't have lag fix and i can't even install it when i already did but anyway
i think that was because i rooted my phone before and did the lag fix and factory reseted it without removing lag fix
anyway this is where the question comes out
so i have got 2.2 froyo and when i open up it says that
my phone is unrooted but it is rooted my tethering works and stuff that i need rooted phone.
plus.. this is even more serious my flash player doesn;t work...
i thought it will work..
i tried to download app for flash 10.1 still doesn't work...
what should i do?
btw i did my update through kies mini
didn;t flash rom
oh and one more problem...
i just noticed that
i have battery reminder
and i just found out that when i turn my wifi it says 4h 43 86%
and when i don;t turn on wifi it says 18h 55 86%
isn't that way too much?
my phone has problem?
i am not sure if i had this problem when i had 2.1
just noticed it
and one last thing what is good voice search and voice text
i saw someone with super good one that they say it really fast and picks up everything
when mine .... doesn't really pick up when i even talk slowly

1. If you successfully updated through mini kies, then it does not matter if you were rooted etc before - the update should have taken you back to a TMO/Samsung approved config.
2. Tethering (and some other stuff) is enabled in 2.2 without being rooted - download titanium backup from the market and try running that - it will fail if you're not rooted.
3. Flash 10.1 is installed with 2.2 - what exactly are you trying to do that makes you think it isn't working.
4. Wifi does suck juice in the new implementation (on my phone anyway), I only tried it once to verify it's working so can't help with any extra config options.
5. Can't help. sorry.

[Q] Locked of of Settings Menu..pls help

Hello Everyone.
Im having a bit of a problem. Im running the unoffifial beta 2v4 the latest one by flapjaxx. The rom to me in my opinion was running fine until i downloaded all the inverted app for this rom throu the update tools function. I was pretty happy with my choice of rom i loved it. The problem began when my phone started to jam up when looking at my inverted contacts menu, the phone would give me a quick hiptic vibrate and then restart my apex launcher..So long sory short I factory reset the phone and now i can get into the settings menu. Phone states App not installed. i wiped the cach clean and did 3 factory resets btw and It still wont let me into the Settings..The phone now says settings is blocked for security reasons.. what the heck did I do wrong

you can try titanium backup..see if settings is in there and restore it(at your own risk, but its worth a shot), OR start from scratch and re-flash ROM. (do a back up of course!!!
good luck!!!

[Q] Battery Problem + Updating doesn't work

Hey guys,
I hope someone will know the answer to my problems, I'll try to keep this short. (English is not my first language so excuse me for any mistakes I make).
Around 2 months ago I couldn't connect to my wifi, I tried everything, but eventually I thought the only solution was to factory reset my Samsung Galaxy S2.
That turned out to be a stupid decision. I made a back up of my media files, so those were safe. But the option to make a back up of your contacts using google didn't work, so I lost all my contacts, whatsapp messages and text messages.
Factory resetting my phone was the solution to the wifi problem though, so I was happy with that. And in the mean time I've gotten a lot of my contacts back, so that's not that kind of a big issue to me anymore.
But now I have a new problem. My phone can't update it's firmware anymore. I've tried using the update function from the phone, but it says it can't connect to the server. And using KIES, it says that the phone can't be updated as well. Now it's running on 2.3.5 and I'd really like to get the new OS available. (This is problem #1).
Problem #2 is the fact that in the last few days my battery has been incredibly weak. Normally I could last 1,5 days to 2 days with a fully charged battery, but now it seems to only last about 4-6 hours. The phone seemed to be a lot warmer as well.
I've tried to find a solution for problem #1, and all I could find is that maybe the factory reset changed the settings of which country your phone is from (I'm from the Netherlands), and that this is the reason why I can't update my phone.
In the thread I found they were talking about using #1234# and checking the codes there, but when I use this my phone displays (translated) ''connection problem or wrong MMI-code''. So I can't check if the data changed after the factory reset.
What should I do next?
Thanks in advance.
Hello there mate.
Im not a dev or something but from different cases that i've seen with many GS2 phones i think i can help you ( i hope at least ).
First of all i think you can easily update with odin to the new ICS firmware Samsung has for GS2.( If you use windows 7 run as administirator )
You can find many tutorials on youtube of how to do that.
Remember to back up all of your data before updating because they will be erased.
After installing fresh ICS firmware (official 4.0.3) you will need to do a factory reset.
Now for your second problem i think it might be an app problem which requires power from your CPU and that's why your phone is overheating and the battery is draining that fast.
I would suggest after using an app to kill it via the task manager so it won't run at the background demanding dedication from the system.
If that doesn't work also try re-installing all of your apps.
Hope you find this kinda useful friend and solve your problems.Take care
Thanks for the reply!
But before I upgrade with odin, don't I need to know the codes (representing where your phone is from etc.)?
I've found them under settings. They are:
Baseband: I9100XXKI4
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKJ3-CL647431 [email protected]#2
Build number:GINGERBREAD.XWKJ3.
And how do I backup all my files? Especially contacts, text messages and whatsapp messages?
No problem ! Im glad that you found my info somehow helpful!
Now as i said earlier im not that kind of expert so giving the current sittuation i don't really know. You should search on the internet for your firmware available for your country and also you can search at sammobile.com then go to firmwares then select the Smartphone option then Android and you should be good to choose the firmware and download it for your region/country. ( Terribly sorry for not giving a link but xda forums are saying that i need more than 10 posts to post a link.
So good luck with that one :good:
I never tried it myself but i've seen that people backup their contacts, texts and apps with KIES so you should give it a try :good:
Either than that, this is all i know and im really sorry if i can't help you any further as im new here too
Alright thanks for the help.
I made a backup of my contacts, whatsapp messages and text messages on my SD card. I'm almost gonna start using Odin. (You don't need a rooted device in order for Odin to work, right?). And I also only got a .tar file from the downloaded package from Sammobile.com, is that all I need?
I'll post the results
Yes Odin will work with unrooted and rooted devices!
I don't know if that's the file, i would do a little search before updating about the files and remember to watch a video on youtube to help you with the process !
Things to remember : If you are on windows vista/7 run Odin as administirator
After installing the firmware do a factory reset / clear cache
Good luck! I hope somebody more experienced than me will help you better than i did . :good:
Haha alright thanks for the help.
I used Odin this afternoon, with succes! I updated to 4.0.3 (only using the .tar file) and after that I factory reset my phone.
Also, I managed to succesfully retain my text/whatsappp messages + contacts, so everything's fine.
I'm going to try out my phone for a couple of days and I'll report if anythings wrong with it.
Really glad that things went in the right direction for you
Just a quick thought now, our Samsung Galaxy S2 will get a new update to 4.0.4 which is reported to be far better than the current one and will be available on the upcoming weeks so be prepared to do another update
But anyway you did a great job! :good:

[Q] Galaxy S3 crashing and auto restarting

Hi
I have a galaxy S3 GT-I9300 running Android 4.1.2 and for the past week or so it keeps crashing and also randomly turning itself on and off. I have removed all apps I have put on it in the last few weeks but this hasn't solved the problem. I also normally have power saving mode turned on but have turned this off as I though this might help but it didn't. I only have a fw extra apps installed and they are all popular ones so cant see that been the problem, I have a few songs on and about 3200 photos on it so was wondering if I have too many photos on it. The time at when the phone crashes or turns itself off is random n happens when im using any app and sometimes I it turning itself back on even though it hasnt even been used. This is a real annoyance for me and highly inconvenient so any help would me most appreciated. I am trying to avoid doing a hard reset as I dont want to have to set up the phone again and load on my apps n stuff. If anyone knows how to fix it or any ideas on what might work please let me know and if I havent given enough info please feel free to ask me more questions.
Thanks in Advance.

Factory reset from settings menu (backup your internal sd card to your pc first) and see if the problem still happens before you install any apps etc. You might benefit from updating to the latest stock rom via odin, read the sticky guides in general on how to do this.

[GT-9100] Multiple problems after factory reset

Hello everyone,
I have a samsung Galaxy S2 and facing quite enough issues with it.
Problem started when one fine day "Media scanner" kept running. I googled for that problem, uninstall few doubtful apps,
cleared off other data but all in vain.
Finally, I did factory reset to get rid of this. After factory reset, I got below problems :
1. Lag in Samsung keypad
2. No audio at all (alarm, incoming calls, music, FM Radio etc etc.)
3. Camera failed.
4. And some times, face issue while rendering.
To solve first one I install swiftkey app which is working fine.
For audio issue, I googled but nothing was useful for me.
Currently, my device has Android version 2.3.4 , i.e. as it was shipped.
I am thinking to update to Ice Cream Sandwich (thinking that can solve all issues) but before that need opinion of experts.
If anybody can "pinpoint actual issue which caused all this or give some direction in solving this" , that would be great help to me.
Thanks in advance for help
With Regards
Neha

Firstly, Thank you for suggestion.
Secondly, I want to mention, my device has started working smoothly its own. Today morning it got fully discharged and got shut down, after charging it is working without any issue. I am not sure, whether battery charging/ discharging has some link to all those issues because I had rebooted it many times.
Anyways OS upgrade is required, hope my experience can help somebody else also
