Q: SG S2 rooted and want to instal CWM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have SG S2 rooted with SuperoneClick some while ago, and want to install a custom rom, but dont have ClockWork Recovery, trying to install it with Rom Manager but have an error,
-- Installing package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
* E: failed to verify whole-file signature
* E: signature verification faile
Installation aborted
can i install it via odin with this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693
??
do i have a chance to brick it????
do i have to WIPE data an chache before to install CWM via Odin???

If you had atleset spent 10 minuts on XDA before attemting the root process you could have avoided this headache now???
the link is too old....dont know outdated or not
forget everything now read CF-root in my signature and follow

rom manager dont work on SGSII
i doubt you dont have cwm as superoneclick does flashes that.
still you can have that as the post above said already.

then if my SGS2 is rootet with SuperOneClick y still can root again with CF-root without problems???? so i can have CWM recovery? and istall custom roms?

yes you can flash cf-root, but make it same ver of the rom you are running, and if you can wipe, do wipe after to eleminate any errors left.

my version is: 2.6.35.7-I9100UHGK7-CL417654
so i downloaded "CF-Root-SGS2_UH_MUL_KG7-v4.1-CWM4"
I'm from chile, and thinking of installing this rom:
[ROM][ICS][18/04][PRE.AOKP.B33]HyDrOG3N-ICS 18.04[1080P][SNACK&BEER.ED'][DASWAGG]
its ok? will it work?

after you will install cf root ,your phone will have a cwm (you can boot to it with 3 key combination) and install the kernel rom whatever you want

reflashed my phon with CF-Root and now have CWM Recovery
now to try new roms.
first will make and backup of my device....
witch rom ICS do you recomend for a noob.
how is HYDROGEN???

ROM manager failing to backup current rom?

I am running stock ROM, however if I try to backup it up, It goes in recovery and say:
Installing packages...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I am running the latest version, from the market.
Thanks
if youre rooted, you should have CWM in your app. Do a nandroid backup with that, not rom manager.
I rooted manually, not with CF-root.
You need a cf-root kernel to do a backup since it gets rid of the verification check.
Thanks guys

I am having the same issue. I am rooted factory froyo 2.2. How to do a nandroid backup with CWM? Where do I find this CWM?
Thanks, NEWB
IMPORTANT:
If you flash a cf root kernel you will get CWM to use manually or via the CWM manager app (chainfire's app) BUT you wont be able to use ROM Manager.
To use ROM manager you will have to flash a kernel with an unmodified version o CWM (cf root gives a custom CWM). THat kernel would be this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693
Then you will be able to use ROM manager.
Now I'm confused. What is the best way to root a SGS2?
Any one?

Flash a cf-root kernel.

[Q] Problem with CWM 4.0.0.2

Hi there,
recently got my S2 and was looking to put the Cyanogen mod on it. I found the thread to install it but when I get to "step 2, reboot your phone to get into recovery"
I get the text
ClockworkMod Recovery v4.0.0.2
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to veriy whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Any ideas whats wrong? I googled it and found...
The famous ROM Manager that is usually used to install ClockworkMod Recovery tool is not compatible with the updated Galaxy S due to new kernel Recovery 3e that needs signature verification for flashing external files.
The solution is to replace the kernel based on Recovery 2e that permits installing unverified signature files. Thanks to developer of XDA ‘Chainfire’ who has come up with working tools that lets you install ClockworkMod Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 running the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread (XXJVK) ROM.
Link to this example is: http://www.dkszone.net/install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-samsung-galaxy-s-running-android-2.3.3-gingerbread-xxjvk
Anyone know if this is the ONLY way to install CWM properly or is there another fix?
Signature related error appears when you haven't flashed the zImage of your rooted kernel via CWM. Flash it and it will disappear.
Regards.
how would I accomplish this? I flashed my ROM at the moment by using Odin tools
Your rom lite-ning rom 6.1 should have the proper cwm built in, sounds almost impossible that you're getting this error. Are you booting into cwm through rom manager? Or with Vol up+home+power?
I was trying both methods to get into CWM and got these errors everytime.

SG2 Root issues :(

Hi guys
some help if poss, ill try and remember the steps i took
firstly UK SG2 on Three
1# Flashed XWKK5
2# Following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 proceeded to root
3# Downloaded KE7_insecure kernal from Odia's thread
4# Flashed and ran the only version of Superoneclick i could find named
SuperOneClick1.9.5-ShortFuse.Drivers. Root was successfull well so the software told me
5# Flashed stock XWKK5 kernal
6# Rom manager "Reboot into Recovery and ...
--Installing package...
finding update package...
opening update package...
verifying update package...
E: failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (invalid argument)
E: signature verification failed
installation aborted
help! lol
What the...
What do you want to do? Root your phone?
Find chainfires cfroot kernel thread and flash the KK5 one from there.
The other errors look like Rom manager is trying to find and access CWM but because you flashed a stock kernel back its not there. Only stock recovery.

It's not an issue. CWM Recoveries are installed within the kernels. If you flash back to stock kernel, you will lose CWM Recovery. Naturally, ROM manager does not work with CWM recoveries on the Samsung Galaxy S II, so let's say you clicked Install ROM in ROM Manager, it would reboot to the stock Samsung recovery, but until you reboot to CWM Recovery it would take it's effect to install the ROM you want.
I suggest you to stick to a custom kernel, I use the Void kernel, and I think it is a great kernel.

[Q] CWM Recovery Error

I have SGS2 rooted vis DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit (zergRush Exploit).
I have installed Rom Manager Premium and then installed CWM Recovery from within the application.
I wanted to backup my ROM but I receive the following error after the phone restarts into recovery.
Code:
Finding update package
Opening update package
Verifying update package
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Can any one tell me whats wrong?
Is CF-Root must for CWM Recovery? or other root methods are not good for CWM.
Don't use Rom Manager & CWRecovery together. Use/install one or the other. Rom Manager has a habit of breaking CWRecovery on SGS2 & can also cause bootloops.
So that means if you want to use Rom Manager, you need to root your phone with a method other than CFRoot which installs CWRecovery by default. And conversely if you root your phone with CFRoot do not install Rom Manager.

I agree with MB. Rom manager was good on the S1 until 3e recovery was introduced.
Basically, you have rooted your phone only but still have stock recovery. From what I remember, for rom manager to install cwm recovery it needs to flash an update zip. But it can't do so on the stock 3e recovery.
So as per MB's advice, flash cf root and use the cwm app that it installs for backups, flashing zips etc.

Because I already have a rooted phone (Non CF-Root).. can you suggest a method to install the latest CWM Recovery which will be compatible with ROM Manager.
The only reason I am backing up ROM is to save my data before ICS update, just in case things go wrong.
No idea. I started with CFRoot, and have used kernels that have CWM installed as default since, so I've never installed CWM separately/as a standalone. There are plenty of posts on here detailing how to install same tho.
Might want to get rid of Rom Manager first.

Do you boot to stock recovery when you boot with combination (volume up+ power+ home)? Because I had the same problem and when I booted to racovery with the combination, It was CWM. So I use rom managaer to install, and then normal boot to flash. If it doesn't boot to CWM eitherway, flash CF-Root again and don't use rom manager to flash

With Vol Up + Power + Home the phone to recovery mode showing
Android System Recovery <3e>
I assume its not the CWM Recovery... so I need to search a method to install CWM recovery manually??
and un-install rom-manager
Root + CWM .

[Q] CWM Recovery install error

I was rooted my SGS i9000(XXJVS) with SuperOneClick 2.3.3 and successfully rooted my phone, but superuser did not been installed, so I installed from Android Market. Then I downloaded ROM manager, and selected "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". It has been downloaded, allowed superuser permissions, and ROM Manager wrote that it has been downloaded.
But if I reboot into recovery mode, I get a message that writes:
Verifying update package... (meanwhile a bar fills up to about 15%)
E:failed to verify whole-filesignature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
And I got a normal recovery mode.
What should I do to install CWM? I only clicked "Root" button in SuperOneClick 2.3.3 and I didn't do any wipe data.
Hey..
You should not root youre phone with apps like superoneclock or else
please use a custom rom or kernel
you will find it in the xda for sure just search for root I9001
Further more be carefull with the clockworkmod it may brick your phone
try to install the cyanogenmod i think it includes root and the cwm
Stay well
