hi guys does anybody know if it is possible to get my o2 xdmini s to except a 3 sim card, it excepts all other sim cards (virgin - vodafone) etc
thanks, jim
Think the simple answer is no.
My understanding is that three use a different frequency and specification - ie wideband CDMA for their mobile coverage, which is not compatible with sims from other carriers using gsm and/or 3gsm services.
If you correctly use the word "accept" instead of "except" in your future posts it will be much easier for people to help you.
one thing that i know is that it will work but no 3g

how? i sim unlocked my G4 mini s. It works with o2, vodafone and should be fine with orange.
But I did check to use my 3 simcard. However, it doesn't accept the card at all. (not only can't use 3G, but no phone feature is available to use)

Q: How do I know my G4 has ever been CID unlocked?

Try SIM Unlocking again. A 3G sim means that it's capable of 3G speeds in a 3G device. I'm currently using a 3G sim in a non 3G device and all is good.
If you didn't CID unlock your device yourself....more than likely it's still CID locked. G4's were only able to be CID unlocked by imei.com or something like that till now. There's a new CID unlocking tool floating around that works on G4's. Give it a try.

Thanks for the reply. But i thought the 3 networks and other networks are working completely different.
I have a sim-free phone. I can use O2, Orange, Vodafone, T-mobile, etc. But when I put my 3 sim-card in. It doesn't allow me to use it. I don't care the 3G speeds. It will be fine to me if I can use the 3 sim card to make a phone call.
The same situation for my Wizzard (O2 Mini S).

My Wizzard is Sim Unlocked, CID locked. I can use my regular sim cards, like O2, Vodafone, etc.
But why can't I use my 3g sim card to make any call? Any idea about this will be appreciated.
i believe the wizard phones arent made for 3g. so thats probably why your
3g sim wont work.
i emailed imei-check.co.uk and this was the reply
"This is TECHNICAL IMPOSSIBLE. Your device is a 2G device and can handle all GSM SIM cards.
"3" (3G network) does not have GSM SIM cards. They use special U-SIM cards (note the U in front) which are NOT GSM compatible.
In short: To use a "3" sim card you need a 3G/UMTS device which can handle U-SIM cards. Your device is NOT a 3G/UMTS device and thats why it will NEVER be able to use a U-SIM."
that sucks ive got 12 months left of my contract

Exactly, I have 17 and a half months left for my 3 contract.
But the guy "ultraprimeomega" above mentioned, he could use the 3 simcard as well as other simcards. It's very strange to me
I was wondering, if I buy a Rogers branded galaxy tab 10.1 from someone (it's cheaper since a lot of people got free tablets as part of a promotion), there isn't a requirement to pop in a SIM or anything right? I'm neither a Rogers customer nor do I plan on using 3G. I only want to use WIFI to connect to the internet.
That should be doable right? I plan on rooting and flashing a custom ROM after to get rid of all the Rogers branded crap. I would get the WIFI model but that's a lot more expensive than the Rogers ones I see on craigslist.
Thanks!
shouldn't be any problem you are only using the sim to access 3G/4G anyways
there is an unlock tool posted, so you can unlock the Tab and insert any sim of your choice

Hi,
I am looking to buy a locked to Bell Tab.
Where can I find the unlock tool so that I can unlock it and send it to US (as gift) for use with US providers?
Thanks!
I've seen threads where modems are used to get the phone on different networks given the right apn. Does this side step a carrier lock or is it assumed these phones are already unlocked?
You can flash a carrier locked phone with any modem you please. You can also change the APN settings on a locked phone. What you can't do is use another carrier's sim card.
So no, this doesn't side step that. You will need to unlock.
International Note N7000 is factory unlocked.
All carrier versions SGH-i717# are all factory locked.
It costs from $7.00 to $25.00 to carrier unlock.
Ok makes sense. What happens if you start using a tmobile modem and apn with att sim? Would att just charge you roaming or something?
Your sim would connect your phone to the t-mobile network using the frequenies of at&t. You would have EDGE data speed (2g), voice, mms.
hi, Could some one explain me what does LTE unlocked sim free phone mean. Is it something like an unlocked phone? Can i use a Gsm sim in this?
Yes, you can use a GSM SIM in it. It's unlcocked.
Read it this way:
LTE, unlocked, sim free phone ...
LTE -- capable of using the fastest wireless data network, and it also supports the slower networks (like GSM)
unlocked -- it is not forces to use a particular carrier, like Rogers or AT&T
sim free -- the phone does not come with a sim card (that is for a particular carrier) and you have to purchase one to use the phone, the AT&T phones come with an AT&T sim
Ok so i have intall galaxy tools and tried the sim unlock option and now it says that it is unlocked but my question is does it really work can I use it per say with t-mobile or att??
I'm on tmoble ? their 3g faster than sprints lte at least where I'm at.
