[Q]About homescreens. - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hey, so I'm kinda wounering about something, I currently use only 1 homescreen, with a wallpaper of my girl, and I dont wanna add moer widgets to don't cover her face and part of the photo, so I created a folder with shortcuts to the things I want. But since android can't allow to organize the icons inside the folders you create on the homescreen, I wanted to know if adding a new homescreen with those shortcuts, would drain battery? I want a 100% sure answer please.
Thanks for the time reading, and I don't need answers like "search forum", "noob", etc. Cause i've searched in alot of places and one's says: "Adding homescreens won't drain battery", others says "the more u have the more battery is used".
So i want a 100% sure answer on the matter. If you don't know, don't reply please.
EDIT: Another quick question: Does the android phone starts to get slowly sometimes? Does it needs reboot? From which time to time? It's like a computer? Because on symbian it was always on the same speed, on my android I notice hes getting some kind of sluggish behavior.

Idk about that..
But u can try another folder Apps like Simi folder or folder organizer they have many great features

Using that I will be using another non-native app, and wasting more battery life

Adding an extra homescreen wil take up some battery but NOT DRAIN
And the system might be sluggish because u must have not used it for some time

Thanks. I'm still in that phase where I want to try to save some extra battery. But from here on one or 2 weeks i'll realize that the phone will never handle more then 1,5 days, so eh . Even setCPU is like a placebo effect. If u still play a bit of a game or use this or that you still drain the same battery. Only helps maybe on calls, temeperature and whatever

Exxactly....u can do whatever u want u are not gonna just simply keep ur ace lying there..battery will drain...

placebo
setcpu works for me
cpu max-245MHz
cpu max for games -825MHz

The battery drain shouldn't be very noticable

Which apps should i get?

just sent in my "defective" phone (hardware locked) and got a new one today that isn't hardware locked (yay)... and i forgot what apps i had... so does anyone wanna give me suggestions for good apps... paid/free doesn't matter
what i have so far
Advanced Task Killer
Beautiful Widget
GPS Test
Quadrant
ESPN Widget
i need a battery app, i had one before that i liked but can't find it again, so can someone suggest one to me, it MUST have the percentage shown as an icon on the top
BattStat. It's a battery widget.
Rather than install a duplicative battery widget why not root your phone and change the icon already on the task bar to show the percentage? There should be a number of posts with options on this site if you search.
I'd also add Rom Manager (clockwork) and Root Explorer to your list.

Aren't apps based on your needs? Not your needs based on apps?
And battery replacement icons are all over and provided through MetaMorph too, try to search once and awhile.

It just depends on your personal preference,
I personally like,
Nimbuzz
Fringg
Metamorph
Google Voice
Rom Manager
Launcher Pro
For montoring battery status, space left on SD, internal memory or free ram, I used to use SysTray Monitor. It puts a percent in the notification area for one of these four things. I used it on my MT3G to show SD space. I then used it on my Vibrant for the correct battery charge until I found the Circular Battery Clockword mod. That shows the battery percent and, more importantly, it is accurate.
Eggz
Talking Tom Cat
Twidoyd
Urbanspoon
Wertago
Sim Checker
Movie Downloader (Ability to download movies directly to phone instead of just playing them)
NFL Game Center
Asphalt
Backbreaker
Air Hockey

Yes. something show the percents
Battery Monitor Widget Pro !
I use BatteryLife.
I like BattStatt, its really nice!
Its Pro version was recently released for free in market, and is much more customisable.
I'm using Smart Batter Monitor.
It's not a widget, but I'm very fond of Circular Battery Indicator

I've used this for a long time now - like it a lot
I used Vizbattery. ( no connection to the comic lol)
Simple, elegant and not very obtrusive
ive been using the make your clock widget with battery for a while now
i use clarus battery
can i say none?
well not if you are running gingerbread........
I brought juice defender ultimate and i like to think it made a bit of a
difference when running froyo.
Since i began running cyanogenmod i cant see any improvement what so ever-
I believe it may just be the way i personally use my phone;
I am constantly on my phone all day flicking it on and then locking it.
I think it may use alot of power creating a data connection(handshakes with server)
than what it would be if it was just left running in the background.
Bluetooth is never switched on, Gps on all the time,
I get 2 days usage typical/ I see roughly a 8- 10% drop per hour when listening to music on my headphones
If you dont use your phone alot you may see more of a difference.
Only my personal experience
Battery Monitor Widget Pro indeed.
use PowerTime as it tells you aproximately how long your battery will last you. It is also very customizable as a widget and it tells you how long your battery will last you according to your overall battery usage stats.

I have wanted to use that myself but have not figured out for wildfire. Did the desire files work or did you have to recompile for the wildfire?
Do you also know if you can flash this over an existing theme you're using?
About the battery app. Don't use any widget, every widget consumes battery life. I just use the option in cyanogenmod that has a little color bar and the percentage number next to it... And the circulars posted above make it even cooler.
hey according to me ,,u download "android system" from market...it wil show u batteru...even details of rom n al......
i think the best way is http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
it just makes battery with percents in status bar... without any widgets
earlier, without root the phone i used Fbreader it can show also battery with percents... any other ways just decrease battery charge

The next killer app

Hello fellow Arc owners.
I have a quick question for you all.
What do you wish your handset could do that it can't?
Something you've always wanted to be able to do with your phone but has never happened, no-one's ever found a way.
Whatever this something is, it has to be possible to do by way of an app - so no super-high-res screens, batteries that last a year on a single charge or anything else hardware related, we're just talking software.
And I'm not talking an updated GingerBreak or something like that. I mean a proper, legit, above board idea.
I'd love to hear any/all sensible ideas, thanks.
NB: I'm not looking to steal anyone's ideas, if you've got a plan for the next killer app then go for it and I wish you all the best.
I'm just trying to find out if there's a niche out there that could be filled...
Im thinking......facial or thumb print unlock screens.....no idea why though.

Thumb print.. won't be feasible on current screens
And facial.. would take too long compared to swiping ?
A snap shot feature would be nice like a system restore. I know there are way to do it in Recovery but it would be nice to have a application within Stock ROM because Recovery is not available within Stock we need to Flash the custom ROM like CM for it.
A better (and free) lock screen could be good ! ..
I used to love how I could use the iPhone/iPod as a touchpad to control the mouse on the computer. Something similar for the arc would be a good idea. Should be graphically pleasing though.
I love to be able to use the camera button unlock the phone directly to the camera app, by long pressing it, so it doesn't happen by mistake. And when you turn off the screen or press the back button it would go back to being locked.

As mentioned, finger prints would require different hardware.
Facial recognition is simply fraught with too many problems to be practical.

Really !! You know how to create a snapshot? Or access it?
Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread Allows Screenshots Without Rooting
Don't know anything more about it though, sorry.
Sorry I think you got me wrong ...! Snapshot i meant a complete image of the system so we can restore it back to previous state. Let's say if something screws up we can restore the image
Right, ok.
I thought you had made two suggestions - screenshots being one and backups being the other.
I could be wrong but I'm not sure that's possible to do unless you're in recovery. I have a feeling that it's only possible to copy certain parts of the OS when it's not running.
As I say, I could be completely wrong but I can't help but feel that there's a reason why recovery is needed to made Nandroid backups.
May be I want to capture video of the activities I do on my device (just like capturing screenshot)...
Though m not sure if its achievable or not!!!
an app which can change anything in the system .. like the default wallpaper settings ..i dont mean the main wallpaper ... change the color .. change the notification bar ... but that easy change anything in the system ... where u can feel easy on making ur own system ... but the problem i dono how to make i hope somebody go on with my idea .... its free for u all ^_^ ... the first who will do this plz let me be the first one who tries it ^_^
thx
I am expecting an application that can show the time and other notification when screen is off. It means that the time can be checked without needing to wake up the screen. W 800 used this technology before. Very useful!

+1 , and the time/notifications have to move up over the screen after each minute (like a screensaver) (like Nokia/Symbian has)

Do you mean something like night clock or bed clock from the Market?
a widget to toggle between "WCDMA preferred" and "2G only".. and not one that's just a short cut to the network settings menu.

Need help, new with Android and everything

Hi guys, I'm coming from an iOS iPhone 4 device to a Samsung Galaxy S2, So far I'm very satisfied by the performance of the device, the freedom of choice and let's just sum it up, Really happy about the switch.
Anyway can you guys recommend me some Battery saving tips?
What Kernels do you guys use, and that are battery life efficient, and do not sacrifice performance,
I'm running on 4.0.3 Stock ROM
I don't and will not switch from a regular Sammy rom, for certain reasons.
Thank you very much and sorry if I'm OT..
Hi, my first bit of advice is to learn how to flash roms and get your phone rooted!
I'm using a rooted, stock ROM from wanam and I've no complaints.
Once your rooted, the best app I've used for battery saving is called 'autostarts'. It allows you to control when an app starts (for example the google plus app starts after pretty much any event-like connecting a power cord for example).
Using just this app my overnight drain (11 pm to 7 am) went from 16% down to 8%.
The majority of battery monitors I've used just give you the 'feeling' you're saving battery on my experience!

I've flashed my device with the Medium because for some reason the extreme won't boot up my device, I have a "cation" sign under my Phones name, anyway I noticed some apps appear on my device, "Superuser" and "CWM" That means my phone is rooted?
I recommend you to use the WanamLite ROMs (they are the stock ROMs with very few and essential tweaks, and root access). I'm using Fluxi kernel, but I'm using Paranoid Android, which is NOT a Sammy ROM.
Now, in order to save battery you can undervolt the processor, lock it to never go beyond certain speed (i.e 1GHz), use low brightness, disable automatic sync, use 2G, etc...
Hope I helped, and welcome to the wonderful Android world

Congrats on making the move from an OS that are you are told what you can & can't do to an OS that YOU tell what you want to do.
Always leave data network mode as deactivated unless you need it. Go into Settings>Wifi and click the menu button (soft key to the left of the home button) and click Advanced. Then under the option Wifi on during sleep select Never (or Only while charging). As a few other users stated, use auto brightness. Where you can, use the Application Manager widget on your home screen. If the number goes above 0 then you should click on it and kill the app (and clear the Ram as well for good measure. If you can, also use a static wallpaper instead of a live wallpaper, and also use black or dark colours as much as you can. Also open up your dialler and dial *#9900# and something called Sys Dump opens up. There is an option there called Disable Fast Dormancy. Press it to disable it.
I can't think of anymore at 11:35pm!
As for kernels, stock Samsung is all I use. Lots of people on XDA seem to use Cyanogenmod, CF-Root or Siyah.
Good luck and enjoy your freedom. :victory:
You can't practically do anything to save juice but installing some battery monitoring apps like Better Battery Stats, Watchdog etc. Just monitor what apps are causing Wakelocks or misbehaving, then disable the Sync in them.
And PLEASE DO NOT install any crappy apps, Play Store is full of them.
Oh, Android's biggest juice hogger is those ads, so install AdAway and remove those nonsense ads.
Good Luck.
First thing post in the correct forum. Second asking for whats better for "x" or "y" is not allowed as its relative to each person. So for that I will be locking this thread.
Cheers

Best apps for HTC One

I wanted to start a thread that shows some good apps for the HTC One. If you have any that are good, feel free to post them.
A couple I have that are pretty good are:
1) Wave Launcher: can add more apps to save space on pages. Can't really explain it, but look it up.
2) BetterBatteryStats: I like this app because I can see how much screen time I get from a full charge.
I'm looking for new apps for the One. If you have any I'd love to know them. Thanks
Faceniff
Google it because it's against the rules to link it. But here's my demo video of it in action:sly: It's AWESOME
http://db.tt/47TuSGHx
On a side note, you should request a mod to move this to the themes&apps section
1 advanced task killer,
2 clean master
3 doctor battery
4 alphalt 7:laugh:
atk really>>>> that was used in the 1&2 series of android phones STOP running it... It causes your phone to use more battery to restart the processes than it does save battery...
1- Power Toggles. Free Notification Toggles make it much easier to change settings vs Sense Settings Menu. I really like adding in Recent Apps shortcut as well.
2- Galaxy Pack. Battery last long enough for me to use a Live Wallpaper, and Galaxy Pack is simply one of the best with lots of options.
3- gReader.
Lux Lite dash: auto-brightness - replaces the built in brightness and actually works.
Can be tweaked to hell and back, and I really think this, more than anything will help with battery life
