Wait or buy screen capture? - Motorola Droid RAZR

I want to know if I should wait for ICS native screen capturing or but screen shot UX. Give your opinions, I don't want to pay $4 for something I'll get for free pretty soon.

Is $4 going to break the bank?

No,it won't break the bank, I just think it's expensive to get something early but $4. Or I could wait for something better implemented. I just want other people's opinion on what they would do.

If you absolutely need a screen shot app, then it would be worth the $4. I can wait for that feature though.

Do you have root? If you do I remember there being an app in the market that was free and would take screen shots. It's been a while, ...but try searching the market for root screen capture, maybe it could hold you off until the update

Why not get a free screen capture app?? Are you not rooted?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium

I've tried them all, all but screen shot UX suck. I think I'll just wait. Yes, I do have root.
Sent from my DROID RAZR

"Screenshot" by Kastor soft is what I use. From what I can see, it works almost identically to screen ux, except for the photo editing option after you capture a screenshot. But the native ics screen capture doesn't have photo editing abilities either. It has shake, timer, and allows you to save different file formats and invert colors on certain protected images. Not sure what more you could want from a screen capture app
Sent from my DROID RAZR MAXX using xda premium

Also check out screenshot ER if you haven't
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium

Why not just run motofail? Its easy. An idiot could do it. It will not hurt anything and you can download ota root keeper and just tempunroot and accept the update. The reapply and keep root. easier than paying any money or donate to the developer. Life will be simpler. I was going to leave this phone alone even after many many modded phones. Just because you root doesn't mean you need/have to install recovery or rom it. I have stock recovery. A launcher and am fairly content. Just a thought. Root it. Enjoy it.

I am quite happy with Screen Grabber.

I've used Drocap2,Screen Grabber,am trying Screenshot ER right now. I guess I'll try Screen grabber again.
What is SDK Tools dddms.bat?

For screen grabber (needs root), long press Search button is the shortcut key to invoke the app anytime you like.
DDMS is a java program which comes with Android SDK for PC, Mac and GNU/Linux. You need to connect the RAZR with USB cable. No root needed.

Andross

If you don't want root, then the 4 USD non-root screen shot utility , is NOT so different than youself going through the ddms tool to take a picture. well it is different, but I personally don't see it is worth 4 bucks.
If you have root, then many stuff are free as suggested by folks above.

Thanks guys, I'll probably use screengrabber until ICS comes out.

No root Screenshot It, works great on my unrooted razr.

The standard, "untouched" Netflix app should work fine now that the device check has been removed (this is the one magicriggs linked to with the Droid Life article). I've been using it for a couple days now with no issue.

I downloaded it from your confirmed link and it works great, the constant "would you like to update" notification is no longer interrupting playback.
Thanks again.
I am getting the update check nag when I first start the app, but not during playback. Rooted Droid X2. Froyo 2.2
I used this link: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/05/2...ice-check-should-work-on-all-android-devices/
Does anyone have the latest APK? It's constantly nagging to update and won't allow me to update because the Droid X2 isn't allowed to access it in market. It still works fine, but that update nag screen is getting annoying. I watch a lot of NETFLIX LOL :/
here it is.
Thanks!

With the size and resolution of the screen on this phone, I could see it as an excellent video device. I personally don't have a ton of times I'd use it a such though, hence my question.

Have you tried the No Lock app from the market? It's free and it does a pretty good job of disabling the lock screen.

Hello! Fellow Razr Owners!

Wow, is this a fun, beautiful phone.
Curious to who I know around here. Any x2/bionic peeps around? Curious to all of your thoughts on this phone and if any of you here are cheesecaking.
I must admit, I think I like this better than the Nex. Additionally, Moto made some very nice improvements to their interface (*blur*) on a lot of different levels.
Anyways, just saying hello to all of you. Let's keep this forum alive.
Cheers.

I don't use hotspots so I haven't experienced this, but I do know I don't lose apps after a reboot
So far mobile connection seems far superior, as does performance. Also, huge fan of the screen, although I do get kind of a greenish tint at times where I feel it should be white - market hang screen for example.

I'm sorry I didn't quite understand the trade-off bit...apologies...but when I saw it once, I was looking for a faaaaar brighter screen, considering the fact that its a sAMOLED...but I found it a little dark...but was told in some forum its because of some ambient setting...will make sure to check it next time properly...
But am surely buying it for sure...in a while... Congrats on your phone BTW.

Hope to see you here soon, this really has been an impressive improvement on Motorola's part. As far as the screen goes there's an additional option to allow the os to manage auto brightness to conserve battery. Net effect: it's about 25% dimmer at times than just "normal" auto brightness.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
I believe the dimmer look is attributed to the AMOLED screen. What I was saying as far as a "trade-off" is that I'll take a slightly dimmer screen to get a less pentile effect. This screen looks much nicer than the Bionic in my opinion...
I just "upgraded " from the nexus to the razr and I am absolutely loving it. The nexus' radio was awful. This phone is just so much more solid overall.

Cool idea for tablet ui

Could there be any way to run tge webtop 3.0 ui on the actual phone screen itself? That would make the dpi problems go away

Theres an app called nebtop but i havent tried it yet. So tempting, let me know if that works for you.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
Nebtop is for webtop 2.0 and it just allows you to use webtop on non lapdocks with an hdmi cord. Im talking about running the actual webtop 3.0 on the phone screen itself, not mirroring it to an external display. Doing so would give the effect of a tablet ui on your phone.
Thank you for the response though

For Webtop 3.0 you don't need anything, just plug into HDMI and select Webtop.
@pyroemaniac: isn't DPI have to do with the screen itself and not the UI? and wouldn't running the tablet UI on the phone itself be kinda hard to use
If you lower your dpi in the build.prop you can force ics to go into "tablet" mode but it distorts ui elements and causes instability. With webtop at the right resolution on the phone screen i think could be usable and would eliminate the problems mentioned above with changing the dpi.
Plus i just think it would be cool to use the tablet netflix and other apps on my phone
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
you actually have the best idea I've seen in months! I wish I had the time to write an app to do this!
Yeah i thought it was a pretty good idea, i just don't know if its possible.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
You could try installing safestrap, back up everything, then flash the Web top to the safe system then booting into it. I'm not totally sure about it, but I believe safestrap uses the Web top partition to load a custom ram disk on top of our existing kernel as a way to boot custom roms with a locked boot loader. Though, I would believe that the Web top would need some small tweaking to run correctly, for input, not sure the touch screen drivers would be included... Etc. But if it could be done i wonder with some additional tweaks if we could build a fully functional ubuntu rom...

Here's something I found for the Atrix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980193
My think is that it should be able to run as an application almost. I unhooked my phone from my hdmi cord one and my phone kept kept the webtop ui on my screen for about 10 seconds and i was able to control it.. though it was laggy

He is basiclly talking a rom or a launcher with the looks of tablet mode, but on the cellphone screen without connecting anything, something like paranoid android rom we have on samsung galaxy note, i personally tried it on a note and its pretty good, would be cool for Razr.
In a way yes, but what i am talking about is we actually use the webtop software thats already installed on our device. If there was a way to open it like an application that would switch us over to tablet mode "webtop" and when you want to go back to phone mode you just use the same app to switch back.
I think that makes sense haha

All we need is a toggle button to flip one bit. The question though is which bit. Perhaps this thread would garner more serious response if posted in the dev section?
I was going to post the idea in the dev section, but people have a tendency to ***** at you if its not an actual product that your posting.

I totally understand that, and you probably WILL get *****ed at, but maybe one dev will think "great idea & i think i know how to do that." Go ahead and clearly post there exactly what you are talking about. Who knows, we could have that toggle by tomorrow &i bet it would get a LOT of press as it would be a whole new interface for Android phones!
This thread is a little old, but I recently acquired a Razr with a bad ESN and cracked but still working screen to use as a HDMI attached media device. Webtop was giving me a few issues, refusing to switch to tablet mode sometimes, so I decided to see if the dpi could be changed to force it into an always tablet mode.
Using a backup of the stock 4.1.2 ROM in Safestrap slot 1, I changed the DPI to 120 and it seems to be working well, apps still show as compatible in Google Play. I'm using Holo Launcher HD and had to switch some settings to get icons looking right.
Here is what 120DPI looks like if anyone is interested.

1. Get Totemo HD (the game)
2. Show her the game and how to play it
3. While doing so, touch accidentally her hands and stuff
4. Proceed doing what you want to do with her.
This worked for me to get talking, but back then, I was using my Palm pre. If even the Palm pre gets this job done, our razrs won't have any problems doing it even better.
Maybe you can also impress women by filming them in FullHD while having... you know what I mean. And then show her how good you can zoom in because of the superb camera...
I'd be impressed...
Or you slip your razr directly into her cleavage. But I seriously don't know why that should help.
