I have been browsing for some interesting-looking games to play on my Nook, and the last few that I've seen on Play through my PC (Skyfall, Six Guns, Sims Freeplay) have been unavailable for the Nook. What's up with that?

Those games are showing as blocked on mine as well. They may just represent game makers no longer supporting the devices we are spoofing (Galaxy Tab and Nexus One). You can always try changing your build.prop to get the new games but you may lose access to others.
Thanks for the tip. I've never modified my build.prop. What would be a good value to change to? And what is the best way to modify that file?

You can use root explorer or ES file explorer. The value to change it to has historically been a combination of Nexus One and Galaxy tab settings. I currently have those settings on my nook and it is showing incompatible for the games you've listed. It may be a good idea to try Galaxy S or pure Galaxy tab (SPH-P100 or GT-P1000) since those are all PowerVR devices so there won't be incompatibilities with the games you download.
Well, it seems that no matter what method I try, I can't get /system to mount r/w. I found something suggesting that I need ro.secure=0 in some file (maybe build.prop or maybe default.prop), but I think I'm getting beyond my knowledge and comfort level.
I finally was able to edit build.prop using Root Explorer (should've just bought that a long time ago). However, I can't figure out the right things to edit. I've tried changing the model and manufacturer to the values for Galaxy Tab, Galaxy S, and my Evo Shift, but none make these games available. Clearly, I'm missing something that needs changed.

It has worked for me before, just changing model and brand, then clearing data from google play and rebooting. But I tried it yesterday for six-guns and it didn't work, I used SPH-P100
Hmmm...didn't clear data for Play. Let me try that.
Ok, that let me get Sims Freeplay, but not the others. I even tried loading an "unlocked" Play apk. Aggravating.
I finally wised up. I downloaded the games to my phone, backed up with Titanium, copied the backups to my Nook, and restored.

I don't have a smart phone T_T can't do that.
I think so. It wants to download a ton of stuff and I don't have a wifi connection right now, so I'll extra-confirm later.

Well at least is bypassing the device check, since its downloading the content. I was thinking you might need to use Chainfire3d to make it work smoothly. But we'll see what happens. If it works you think you could post a link for the apk you extracted from your phone?
Yeah, if it works, I'll do that.
You have to clear data from play store and google services framework.
Sims shows the splash screen then goes back home. Six Guns and Skyfall appear to work.
I'm apparently too dumb to figure out where the apk files are, so here are zips of the three files created by Titanium. Just drop them into your TitaniumBackup folder on your SD card (might require a reboot), then you can "restore" them through Titanium.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ycypyd923wuzoh0/SixGuns.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/yseekyj5jxrvbcj/Skyfall.zip
Oh, and clearing data on Google Service Framework didn't help me.
OK, so maybe Six Guns doesn't work. It sort of works, but it's not right.

I have Chainfire, and I have the APK but I have no idea how to get the extra game data to download. I tried changing my build prop but that didnt help. Does anyone know how to make it download the data or where I can download the data. Every Google search I did returned downloads for the data but they all said the files had been deleted.
It works for me now with the new update from the game.

Not sure if this will help, but this is how i was able to get it to work.
If you (or anyone you know) has an android phone, install the apk. to the phone. Update the app if it isnt already updated. Donwload the data. Then, move the data from the phone SD card to your Nooks SD Card. It should be saved under Android-data-com.eamobile.nfsshift_na_wf.
I will say that after I did this, i had to reset my Nook to get the app to notice the data, but it works fine now.
Hope that helps.

This is because his phone has a PowerVR (like the NC) gpu while yours probably has a qualcomm or nvidia. You need the correct type of sd card data.
I bought this an was really enjoying Shift until I had to re-image the NC.
Now, I have an odd issue. In the Market, I can't even see NFS Shift. However, on my other NC, I can see NFS Shift and can download again if needed.
How do I get my re-imaged NC to see it in the Market to re-download?
Thanks!

The android market is a fickle thing. I flashed the same ROM (CM7n253) to multiple Nooks. Only one of them won't allow me to download Google Earth because it's "incompatible." The only difference between the devices is that I assigned them unique IMEIs. I put "Blood and Glory" on my NC and I was going to put it on the others only to find that it doesn't show on the market. Checked market website and sure enough it's listed as "incompatible". Checked my NC and now it's listed as "incompatible" too. Good thing it's a free app, I just titanium backed it up and loaded it on the others. I really wish android market had an advanced mode where you could ignore it's "compatibility" settings.
I'd also like to have a way to gift games (a la steam) cause I would have bought a lot more at the holiday sale if I could have just emailed the codes or had it open on their markets.
apk and data from a Droid X
I installed the apk from my Droid X (which I purchased) along with the data but when I attempt to start the game I get an error message that says "Error (Airplay v4.3.10 [2599558]) S3E_DEVICE_PHONE_NUMBER: This device don't have a phone number!".
Thoughts anyone?
UPDATE: The game starts after I click off that error message. However, even though the game will see the data from my previous game play from my Droid X (money, experience points, etc) it still displays the message "If you want to purchase the full game." even though the copy off of my Droid X was purchased. It also doesn't let me change tracks either so I'm stuck on the Tokyo one.
Blockbreaker 3 HD on sale now! LINK
Full sale including other games: LINK
The Gameloft apps seem to require IMEI, build.prop and LCD to 160. If you don't have these, your mileage may vary...
Backstab HD was in sale 12/11/11 for the same price and prolly will be again. It also runs perfectly on the nook.
Asphalt 6HD was in sale a couple of times over the last week for the same price and prolly will be again. It also runs perfectly on the nook.
Here's the build.prop edits I have: HERE

Could you tell me which parts of build prop you edited? Thanks.

Still can't get this to work on my Nook Color.
I've edited my build.prop to the following:
ro.product.model=SPH-P100
ro.product.brand=bn
ro.product.name=encore
ro.product.device=encore
ro.product.board=encore
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
I've cleared out my market data multiple times and rebooted multiple times.
Neither Blockbreaker 3 HD nor Backstab HD show up in the Android Market on the Nook Color, and when I try to get it through android.market.com it tells me "This item is not compatible with your device."
Any other ideas?

Indeed, I too made the same build.prop changes, verified that the dpi was set to 160 (my encore nightly was already set that way), cleared the cache and data for Market, and rebooted. I verified the build.prop changes after the reboot just in case I erred.
Blockbreaker 3 HD still does not show up on the market and shows as unavailable on market.android.com.
I'm running nightly "cm_encore_full-253.zip" and "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip". Any other suggestions would be welcome, Blockbreaker looks quite fun. Thanks.

I'm running 253 as well. The gapps version shouldn't affect anything. The only thing left I can think of is IMEI editing, sorry. Gameloft always finds a way to make installing a game 20x harder than it needs to be.
Understood, thanks. I take it then that lack of a real IMEI can cause apps to show as unavailable on the market? (I had only previously run into IMEI problems with already installed apps, like an old version of Touchdown. They didn't work right but they showed up in the market and installed, IIRC.)

I wouldn't have thought so but Gameloft games have a history of having buggy DRM that does everything but a credit check before allowing you to play your game. The exciting news is that with IMEI editing (and everything else) these games are seeming to install and prevent me from needing to scour the darkened alleys of the internet looking for hacked .apks.

Hrm when i go to the site it says not available on any of my devices.
My girlfriend loves the sims games, but she didn't have android on her touchpad yet (CM wasn't stable enough till about 3.5 where i'd install it for her as her OS). I added her gmail account to my phone and we bought SIMS 3 on it to her account, and low and behold, EA doesn't let you install it on the touchpad.
I removed her account from my phone and now the game won't play on my phone, which is understandable. I backed it up via titanium and shipped it over to her touchpad, but it won't download any of the additional files.
It says it's going to download, then says NaN 0MB of 0MB and calls it quits.
Anyone know how to get around this? She bought the game, and the licence check will pass, but it's BS that it doesn't work.
I think the Nan download issue is global reading the comments on the review.. maybe they will fix that soon

I copied the data download from my phone to my tablet for sims and sim city to get them going. Neither supports the HP's resolution. On Sim City it just cuts off the edges, but it is still totally playable. On sims, the choice boxes for actions aren't there and graphical components like house numbers appear in random places. I haven't found any file to edit for the resolution settings yet...anyone else?
I do not have the additional data since I recently wiped my phone. =/

I also got it to run by copying the data from my phone but like Danknee said above there's a resolution issue so it's not really playable. Menu options are missing or off screen.
An update on this, I found a way to get the game to work using the method that is described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393701
It basically forces a 16:9 aspect ratio which the game apparently needs. The down side is you lose some of your screen space and if you want it back when you are done with the game you have to restore the files you replaced and reboot so it is a bit tedious just to play one game.
hi:
i got black screen that didnt go away, so i rebooted..
then got error:: process com.ea.simcitydeluxe_na has stopped.. force close..
google is no help..
thanx
Anyone ever figure out a way to get the game to work on the touchpad? Without changing a bunch of files?
I was reading that someone managed to get the palm pre version worked on webos.... Perhaps that might be a better and easier way to get this working.
Failing that is there a one (or two maybe?) Solution to replacing some files and rebooting? Forgive my Android noob knowledge but something akin to a batch file could do this perhaps?
That way the method motoki suggested wouldnt be so bad at all.
Op here, still have not found a workable solution.

Changing Device ID to galaxy s will be helping in playing incompatible games from gameloft & other vendors
You can play: mc3 & other games that weren't working earlier
You need (bild.prop editor)
code.google.com/p/net-widgetron-propeditor/downloads/detail?name=PropEditor-0.3.apk
Install this, Open & then backup orignal file..
& then you are ready to edit - find these lines & edit like this
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
ro.product.model=GT-I9000
(only manufacturer & model are necessary you might edit other if you want to..)
ro.product.name=GT-I9000
ro.product.device=GT-I9000
ro.product.board=GT-I9000
ro.product.brand=samsung
after editing save file & restart your device... that's done..
now visit gameloft http://wapshop.gameloft.com site to see if this trick is really working...
just rebooted it with the mod see if it works.......
Yes!! Got past the part where it says device is incompatible now downloading the data for MC3..........

Good luck with that, actually i don't have a galaxy player but want to help you guys, do tell others about this
This works well. It also lets us see apps that were hidden in the market before like go launcher ex and adw ex.
Dudes, do as OP says, only with GT-I9100 instead of GT-I9000, then go to Samsung apps and you can get loads of Gameloft games... FOR FREE! This is perfectly legal, unless Samsung is pirating them, lol!
Edit: Oh, I see, those are just trials, still, test out the game before you buy it!
Edit2: a member brought it to my attention that it might not be such a wise idea to trick the market into thinking your device is a dual core 1.2ghz device, so this might not be such a good idea.
Well I went on to the site and its says that my device is I9000 but on the market it says my device is still incompatible with other apps. I only left the ro.product.brand=samsung since it was the same. Did I do anything wrong? Could it be the custom rom I'm running?

You know, it is interesting; using this, many apps that didn't show on the market now show; however, there are still certain apps that do not show up. Adw launcher is one, jeopordy is also not. There are others, but I forget what they were. This makes the market think you are a nexus, witch I thought were supposed to get all apps, but I guess there are even apps that the nexus doesn't get, oh well. As long as gameloft games show, I'm happy!
Can someone post the edited build.prop file they changed? I did it and it recognized it as a Galaxy S but made it so my swype was a "limited" trial and now Swype won't work =(
Also, the market didn't change app compatibility wise, just on Gamelofts website only.
i did everything you said but its not working...you have solution?

I think you're right, it's server based as it runs in real time whether you're in the game or not.
I have an issue though.. I have two devices and would love to have the game running on both.. the phone during the day and a tablet in the evening.. does anyone know where the account info is?, if I can copy the account data from my phone to the tablet (or vice versa) I could play from the last saved place each time.
Any thoughts?
I'm actually checking into this as well, as far as I can tell its in the root folder data/data/ea.comsimpsonsblahblahbl I can confirm that the "other" town is the files in save folder because I deleted them and now I force close ONLY when visiting other Springfield.

Just reset mines last night, you have to wipe everything and reflash your rom. Seem like the file that connect our phone to their server is hidden some where. And for whoever uses GameKiller cheats, before you close the game, make sure you buy the "Homer Buddha" until you get more Donuts.

Hi, can any of you link to the gamekiller apk please? I'm can't find it to download from anywhere I trust!
Also a tutorial on how to use it with the Simpsons tapped out would be great.
Thanks
There is also a modded apk floating around out there, I'm sure if you use Google you can find it.
The real trick is how do you reload your current world after reflashing a rom? I think a hard reset also disconnects you from your current world. The game server must have some way of identifying your phone, the phone name maybe?
That should allow you to play on multiple devices too. If you could figure out what the severs look for to identify your device.
has anybody found out how to put an old simpsons game onto a new phone?
I.e. i have a long gaming going on my old phone but i want to transfer it to my new phone.
My old phone is rooted and i find a file in .android_secure

Not possible at all - it's linked to your device's hardware.
