I really want to use faux123 kernels but with the widgets disappearing, I can't. Anyone knows of an app that i can use to backup my widgets and then restore them to their locations?

"I can get Titanium to restore all my widgets every time. I use TB to backup "Application Widgets" before flashing a new ROM.
Obviously once I restore all my apps with Titanium Backup my Widgets all show up with the error. But if I restore "Application Widgets" again and immediately restart my phone using a quick reboot app (I use Hot Reboot) the widgets all load fine.
I'll usually do a full restore of all my apps. Put a Hot Reboot widget on my homescreen. Restore "Application Widgets" again. Reboot using Hot Reboot. Then when the phone is done booting all my Widgets appear correctly (minus the Hot Reboot widget I just added, it errors out).
Don't know if it'll work for everyone but it works every time for me. Saves a lot me time."
Update: Hmm this doesn't work for me. Maybe I am doing something wrong

Everytime I try to restore my apps after installing a rom, it takes forever since i have to weed thru the list of apps that werent on the phone anymore... anyway to only see what was installed on the phone last?
Open tb, hit menu, select "batch"
Select the"delete backups for uninstalled apps"...i believe it's the option second from the last.
Just because you uninstalled an app, tb doesn't know you don't want it for future use. You have to let tb know about this.

Yeah, shows because you made a backup... if you don't want it, trash it.
Have a question about the google backup option, where it automatically downloads and restores apps. Is there a way to clear out the apps it has in memory, and then back up fresh? I used it a while back, and now I have a nice clean set up the way I want, but when I turned it on it starts downloading all the old apps I no longer wanted.
Any ideas how to reset or clear out that list?

I've never found a way to clear google's list of apps on their side. However, if you skip google setup during the initial setup of the phone, and then setup your account later, it will not automatically download your apps.

You should try titanium backup. The 5 is worth it. After I install a new Rom I skip all the initial setup and just restore with Ti backup and reboot and everything is perfect

+1 - I found Titanium Backup to be one of the greatest apps. I had a ton of issues with Google trying to re-download all of my apps and created a mess of things. I just keep a backup copy of Titanium Backup on my sd card (the .apk) so I don't even have to open the market to download it. Restore apps after rebooting into my new rom and done! No More issues.
if u want to get rid of a app when u turn Google backup on you got to let it install and them uninstall it and sync
If you go to the web based version of the Android market you can edit what apps are associated with what phone. I actually have an old Droid that I mainly use as an alarm clock in the docking station and I just download apps from the online market and then I have the option of which phone I want to send it to.

I posted this in a thread in the Themes section, but didn't get any bite, so I thought I would move it here.
Forgive me as I am new to all of this. I am running BAMF Remix 1.6.3. I have Titanium Backup Pro. I have been following this thread for sometime now and like the different options people have on their phones. After I put a lot of work into customizing my home/lock screen using the widget app's, launcher app's, etc...If I were to flash to a new ROM or flash BAMF 2.x, is there a way via Titanium Pro (something else) to get those same home/lock screens back quickly?
After my other flashes, I have used TB to restore my app & app data, but have been nervous about restoring system data, etc. b/c I don't know if I am restoring something old over something new.
Any help on this?
try it, just back up your rom in recovery first in case it doesn't work
usually a bad idea to restore system data. youre not really going to be able to instantly restore your homescreen widgets, etc. when you create a widget its creates a sort of unique ID for that widget. when you wipe and flash a new ROM, that ID doesnt exist, so the widgets are gone. and even in launcherpro when you restore your home screen, all the widgets just show "error loading." so unless someone else has found a solution, (ive never heard of one) you pretty much just have to bite the bullet and manually recreate all of your widgets whenever you wipe.
Im glad this topic was raised and I can live with re-adding widgets BUT
what I hate is having to log back into EVERY SINGLE app, Facebook, Pandora, Groupon etc etc
How can I safely get all that data back after flashing a new rom? I do have titanium pro, but the one time I used it, it was a nightmare restored crap that wasn't included in the ROM like the WidgetPicker app and caused all kinds of problems

Yea just use the batch restore apps + Data. But don't do system data, that never works good.
I back up HTC Sense Home each time and my home screens come out just like I left it, but you do have to re-add Widgets.
Can't remember exact name but it's there in Titanium.

For further education: restoring apps + data restores the applications and settings from apps that you have installed from the market, Amazon, etc. The data & settings are not ROM specific, so they restore well.
Restoring system data has you restoring ROM-related data & settings. Often things are different from ROM to ROM, so trying to restore from 1 to another causes problems. The only system setting I have ever restored was the data for "Bluetooth Pairings", which seemed to work o.k., but since pairing is simple enough, I don't do that either.
Either way, most times that you switch ROMs you will have to redo widgets, even from something like Beautiful Widgets or Widget Locker. Even though you back up those apps & their data, the widgets hook into the ROMs at the system level enough that they don't survive a restore anyway.

That is true for Android widgets with launcher pro, but you can successfully restore any of the launcher pro widgets you use with no problems.
Hey guys, need Some help here. I upgraded from Bamf 2.1 to Bamf 3.0 sense, and after restoring with Titanium I'm having two issues:
1, every time I restart, the phone forgets my Google account information and I have to log in
/sync again
2, the weather lockscreen now shows "no weather update available "
After several hours of searching, I found some info suggesting that it may be due to titanium restoring to the sd card. I reflashed, let Google sync, and then only restored all the green options and select althird party apps. The second time, I had changed default restore to preserve original file structure. Still no dice. I then restored "accounts" directly to internal storage. Still no dice.
This is getting very frustrating, I would love any guidance.

i would only re install backups for third party apps. even though your reinstalling system data with useful information, its all based from the sense 2.1 interface, and restoring it in sense 3.0 can lead to the kind of incompatibility issues your having.

I had a lot of problems using Ti Backup when trying to switch over to a GB based ROM, and I later determined the backups were causing most if not all of them.
I would be very selective on what you backup and restore new again if your are switching between Fr and GB

Do you have your background data turned off? I had the same problem with my lock screen showing the weather update. It should show if you tap on the weather and manually update from the sense clock on a home screen. but if your background data is turned off it will only update every hour (thats the lowest amount of time it will allow you to update itself if data is turned off). I now just run the clock on my lock screen.
No Background data was on. Pretty sure it was from restoring data through titanium. Reflashed and only restored third party, issue went away

hello
i noticed recently after moving to ICS, that after I flash a new rom, all my old apps start to download and install automatically.
Downside is I may not want all apps to install and then when an app installs it just installs but its old settings are not applied.
This never happened before when I was on GB.
I used to be able to batch install apps via titanium as well as restore the apps old settings.
is there a way to get back to what I am used to or have better control over apps re installing following the re flashing of a rom?

It's a default back and restore android feature, just reboot the phone or something, it's gonna stop it.
When you set up through setup wizard, it has a checkbox asking backup/restore checked. Just uncheck it. This was also in gingerbread setup wizard.

is this different than the option under Settings, Privacy - the 2 check boxes to "back up my settings" and "automatic restore"
do you use either of these or do you rely on an app to do this for you?

Idk if its different, I just know I uncheck when doing setup wizard. I always manually install all 150-200 apps... It's a pain in the ass, but I know its cleaner that way over titanium backup and its faster than auto restore.

i think i will try mybackup pro as it looks as if it can save and back up more things than titanium (sms, apns, ...).
with how frequent updates are coming out to roms i am looking for more convenience to get back up and running faster after taking the new rom

Also I found this when I opened the market the first time too... Just git the X in the top right corner...
I opened market within 10 minutes of flashing the leak so I got/caught it early..
But ya.. Uncheck the option during setup

Option in TiBU
This only works for those of us on Rooted Systems using CWM and Titanium Backup Pro. May work on standard but IDK, I use Pro.
One of the best ways I found to have full control over what gets re-installed on a flash of a new ROM with or without the latest Gapps "Restore from Google Account" tick box is to First do a CWM Nandroid Back Up of the current ROM with all the apps you want to keep updated through Play Store.
On install of your New ROM in the setup wizard, set up your Google account, un-check the "Restore account from Google" if it is there. turn on and connect your WiFi if you want. Go to Playstore and install your Titanium Backup and Pro license. Set up your TiBu prefferances and reboot the phone. Sometimes this needs to be done to get TiBu all the way up and running. then launch TiBu and go to Menu>Extract from Nandroid. Surf to the clockworkmod folder if you have to and sellect the backup you made. It will take a minute or more but there will be a list of apps and an option to restore Apps+Data, Apps only or Data Only. Make your tick box app selections and then hit the green check mark at the top right in TiBu.
This is way faster than the Play Store download speed and if you select Apps + Data your games and such will be right where you left off.
Then you can go to Play Store>My Apps and update any apps that need it since the Nandriod Backup was done.:good:
