[Q] /sys/class/misc/notification/ missing - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there a way to bring this folder back?
/sys/class/misc/notification/
tried reflashing official firmwares, pit files. kernels, and can't seem to bring back those files..

What's that folder for?

You still need it? I can zip it and you can just unpack it there I guess ?

I still don't get it what is it for. Can you explain the use of those files for me?
Thanks.

These are config files for BLN if am.not mistaken .. if you flash a kernel with BLN support you will most probably see these files

Adding a new boot animation

I know on other phones it is a simple bootanimation.zip copy and paste, but the vibrant doesnt use that format. So what files do i need to replace?
Thank you

Need a little more info.
Are you stock (non)rooted?
Are you on a custom rom?
Most of the,if not all, custom roms accept bootanimation.zip. There are tons of them in the theme section. Also a tutorial or two as well on making them.

Actually the vibrant does support that...its just that the kernel must support it....its basically supported on all custom ROMs/kernels....not so sure of stock ROMs though...what ROM are you using?
Im on the 2.2.1 Rom just released i am on tapatalk so i cant recall the spelling.
I checked in system/media i couldn't find it. I found bootanimation but no zip.

I think you have to be on a custom ROM to utilize the bootanimation.zip

Editing a custom kernel

Is it possible for me to edit my kernel to allow higher clock frequencies? I am trying to achieve 1700-1800mhz
Can i extract the kernel from my ROM zip?
Do I simply edit 'scaling_available_frequencies','cpuinfo_max_freq' & 'UV_mV_table'?
If so how can I gain write access to this file? Any info appreciated!

How do I open zimage
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
You can't unzip the zImage and make changes. You'll need to compile the kernel from source yourself.
Ok thanks for the reply. I am currently downloading the cm7 source code from github. Can you help with regard to overclocking?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
You could try looking at the original overclocking commit and modifying it.
Why would you ever want 1.8GHz though? It'll almost certainly be unstable.
Sent from my GT-I9100
OK so what I've sussed out so far is as Oxygen ROM is cm7 based I can extract the boot.img from stable cm7 ROM (which is the kernel) and replace it with the Oxygen boot.img thus creating oxygen 2.3.1/wolverine, clockable to 1.6ghz.
I have found a tut on unpacking ramdisk, is this the boot.img?
If so can anybody tell me how id go about further increasing clock speed once unpacked?
Any help appreciated, cheers Andy
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Like I said, it's not possible to change the available frequency steps in a compiled kernel. You can't unpack it and make changes, you've got to build it from source.
Thanks for the reply, I believe I have the source and instructions on compiling unsure what to edit. Am I rite in saying the kernel is generic to all devices and need tailoring to suite? Please forgive the noobness I like to dive in deep end. Hopefully studying comp sci in sept if I get my grades so maybe then ill be able to contribute to the forum a little better

As for why, my device runs real smooth even at 500mhz but have a friend who likes to gloat over a cf bench result id like to smash, that and learning more and as much as I can on android OS.

Go to sammobile.com and search for gt-i5500 ROM's. You'll get all the stock ROM's you need. For gingerbread, use cyanogenmod 7.

Can I ask why you wouldn't just download a custom rom? You're making a lot of work for yourself by building on stock... CyanogenMod is stable now by the way and everything works so I don't see why you need to mod stock?
To be honest stock roms work best on this device I only have to edit and tweak a few things and add some scripts the hardest part for me will be the theme side of things and I can also port so I just want to try and make a good rom with no bugs with good performance without a rom that's already been modded

Oh no no. You are going the Samsung way I guess. In all Sony phones, we dont have a recovery partition. That means that we can't flash kernels from CWM. The only way is fastboot. So no way to include kernel in your rom zip file. Sorry. At the most you can only recommend users to use a particular kernel.

OHHHH!!... but in the tutorial by nero young on how to build a custom rom .. he has a sk17i and he uses his own custom kernel when he builds the rom... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26283930
so if i cant use a custom kernel .. how do i extract the kernel.sin into the rom?
Basically you just can't flash kernel with the phone.
Usual practive in our phones is to include th boot.img in the rom file and ask it to be extracted and flashed via fastboot through pc.
Hope it helps
Don't know about the tuto

You don't have to worry about the kernel when building a rom on stock rom. Just work on the system and you should have a proper working rom.

Yes. Kitchen requires a kernel for the working folder. Btw why do you need kitchen? If you need any help for developing your rom, just pm me.

Dude you can directly add root and busybox.and whatever you want. Check your pm.
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
Hi,
You can use the attached META-INF folder. It has only the basic stuff like basic symlinks and permissions required for the rom to work properly. Just check the comments in the updater-script to know where to add your tweaks.
Good luck developing

You have to flash pit file

Where can we get known good PIT files? Are they specific to your ROM or generic across phone models?

PIT files are SPECIFIC to phones. DO NOT FLASH SII PITS ON OTHER PHONES OR OTHER WAY AROUND!!!
PIT files should also be used as an ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT.......
If a PIT file flash goes bad, there is ZERO chance of recovering the phone.
Your best bet is to re flash the ROM/firmware.
If you are on stock, search for a 3 file firmware which will wipe the old as it flashes the new....
If you are on custom use @hawkerpauls ROM and kernel nuke scripts to wipe the partitions before the flash.

I dont think that script will increase the system storage.
The reason is aosp/aokp roms uses system partition only for storing apps where as custom stock roms uses preload partitions from there its linked to system/app
If u follow the instructions properly u should not have problem in flashing pit via odin
I see lot of people are going for pit file in order to increase system partition

He doesn't need to increase the size of the partition.....all he needs to do is clear it......and you DON'T need a PIT file for that.
I still retain my researched opinion that flashing a PIT file should be a last resort.....the step you take just before throwing a borked phone in the bin.......
