Not sure if anyone else saw this but I just stumbled across it in the TouchPad forum. Man I'd kill to get WebOS running on my Photon (sorry to those of you Palm Pre haters but I dearly miss quite a few features of my Pre and WebOS).

I have this mod enabled on my TP, it really makes multi-tasking feel smoother and more natural imo. I love the cards way of multi-tasking.
yea that by far beats the normal app switching in ics. making me wanna play around with my old palm devices.

WebOS was a tremendous firmware. Too bad HP killed it.
Spleef if you could somehow get the "cards" thing working that would be great. Not sure but I recall it being trademarked or patented or something.

ICS Reloaded, available as part of the KitchenSink ROM, has the ability to change Ice Cream Sandwich's vertical scrolling Web-OS style cards to horizontal.
But, as a former WebOS user, this is still lacking, as it doesn't zoom out from the currently active app (the active app is the one app that will not appear in the list) and it still requires holding down the home button. And maybe I'm hard to please, but it seems to me this sort of app-switching works much better with a dedicated hardware button rather than holding down an flush/touch button key.
Still, definitely an improvement from Gingerbread app-switching functionality.
Good to know, thanks!

With the new phones built with android 4.0 in mind you now have a dedicated button for app switching. The buttons are home, back, and app switching. When in an app you also see the settings button. None of the buttons have a double feature, like the previous home button.

hey there everybody!!! Real proud owner of the Photon and while I really like it alot I would love to see some CM7 action on this beast. Just wondering if anybody else would be interested in have CM7? Perhaps if we show the devs that there is a nice size group of peeps interested maybe they will start on it if they haven't already.
Hit the poll up and let's see what kind of results we get. Let's try to encourage the devs to do it!!!
Edit: looks like there is at least one dev that I can see who is starting work on porting CM7 to the Photon. Let's give him all the support we can and let him know we appreciate him for his work!!

Stock photon isn't bad, but I still feel it has a lot going on running in the background I can do without, im just afraid of deleting something that's tied into the framework. ASOP would scream on this phone.
Who is the dev? And I have talked to 4 devs from the miui forums and a few cm7 devs from xda and it seems the only thing thats holding them back from getting the photon is $$$ many are college students stretching the little they have for food. So I can say this, if we could some how start a bounty with a goal large enough to purchase a few phones for those that are willing to port miui/cm7/sense to this beast...endless development would be on the horizon.

There's one thing that would make it perfect -- a tweak to the behavior of ScrollView so it always scrolls/pans the contents some whole multiple of two pixels. This would effectively solve the blur/shimmer problem caused by the RGBW PenTile display.
Scrolling NOW causes black text on white backgrounds to shimmer when it moves by one pixel because it's oscillating between getting rendered by 1 (W) and 3 (RGB) subpixels. If you snap to even offsets, you'll ensure that a pixel that starts out being rendered by a RGB triad is still rendered by a RGB triad after moving, and a pixel that starts out being rendered by a bWr triad is still rendered by a bWr triad after moving. Scrolling will be a tiny bit less smooth, but at least then the text won't shimmer and blur.

If any dev wants they can ask the gentle man turl here:
http://modmymobile.com/forums/661-m...7-exp-cyanogenmod-7-1-atrix-pre-beta-4-a.html
he said with a photon kernel and simple changes the CM7 for atrix should boot on Photon. Its very stable.
i know nothing about modding unfortunately, but he said:
'Anyway, it will need a bit of tweaking to get it started, like actually using a photon kernel and renaming the init file.'
'To boot it on a photon and be able to use sensors, ril, etc you will need to use a kernel built for photon. You can build one with the source code provided by Motorola.'
Can someone take a look into this, i feel we can have some CM7 build running quickly if someone comitts, the best i can do is form a bounty or donate, and im ready to do that to whoever leads this ship
porting cm7 is easy, takes files from one repo and git them in another repo....
but seriously guys if it was so easy as taking the atrix rom and mixing it with th ephoton kernel and 99.9% of everything worked out of the box, dont you think it would have been done? wimax, gps, mms, sms, voice, data, etc etc is all going to be controlled by the radio and as such even if the atrix cm7 got EVERYTHING else working, chances are most of you bought the photon to use/have one of the six things i just listed
I wouldn't mind seeing CM7 as long as I can use WiMax. I'm assuming Cyanogen would give us slightly better battery life since it doesn't have any Moto dependencies working in the background.

here is the problem with that, the evo had the first use of wimax and when they tried to get it in cyanogenmod they had to struggle for a long time (also offer a huge bounty). samsung phones, the epic and the nexus both have wimax in cm7 working flawlessly.. due to teh nexus being aosp. now here is motos first crack with wimax.. depending on how they did it,,, we may never see cyanogenmod with wimax

The same question was answered when Droid 3 came out.
Currently, pretty much all devs are working on finalizing the CM7 rom for Atrix.
Since most devs / users hate motoblur, I doubt anyone will take time to port it even after CM7 is completed.
After all, why should anyone do Motorola's job for them?
Thanks for the input guys, sorry for the delayed response. Been running the same rom/theme for a while and was looking for something new and shiny w/ fingerprint support.
Anybody care to hazard a go at getting Honeycombed HTC Sense to the touchpad? now that the source code's been released
What port would they bring? The honeycomb Version from the evo view 4g?
Sense is to incorporated. Into the OS it would be more work than worth.. let along sense is a RAM hog.... it wouldn't be very fast
Sense is bad enough on the phones. Thank the phone Gods for CM7 sent to fix them.
Evo view 4g or the Jetstream one too since the jetstream has the same SoC as the touchpad

well the ROM is there....the source is there....Honeycomb source is there aswell
we all know what htc are like when it comes to updates so i'm not expecting ICS till about february
I would pass on anything that is running sense.
However, honeycomb with TouchWiz UX from the Galaxy Tab would get me excited.
Honeycomb was finally open sourced when ICS was also released, but you still need to start from scratch. So, I doubt we will ever see honeycomb on the TouchPad, when an equal amount of work will give us ICS.
Plus, Sense was not open sourced. Sense is proprietary software owned by HTC, so any ports of Sense (and for the same reason TouchWiz from Samsung) would be borderline illegal at best. So, if it is done, I don't think it will be distributed or supported on XDA.
For the TouchPad we will have to rely on CyanogenMod, MIUI, or other cross platform builds (don't know of any).

I would also like to see this. I love the way sense looks on tablets. I Thought that Leoisright was going to try and do it, but he is doing a Xron version of CM7 right now, so i don't know if he gave it up, but he would be your best bet to ask to do this. Send him a PM and tell him that people do want this. Good luck.
ok before a fist fight breaks out lets just get things down to ground level lol....people prefer cm7 thats fine, doesn't mean bash the fact that it'd be nice to see sense on the touchpad lol
back to the point. if we can get enough people who'd like sense (i'll make a vote thing) then perhaps leo wouldn't mind having a look at this too
I thought that was more of a publicity stunt. I thought the arrangement was that people could alter and or enhance Sense, not freely take it to install on other devices. Sense is the only thing HTC has to differentiate itself.
Regardless, while sense is not for me, I agree more variety would be better for everyone. If it is possible, then I'm all for it, I just thought this was akin to the Windows 8 talk.

2. Is there a fix for the rotation issue on CM9 - based roms? This annoys me beyond frustration.
3. Is there a webtop for ICS project?

There's no bloatware with sense 4.0, as its still in alpha/beta.
I just like the look and feel of its locker and home screen in general, but I can never get the results using a home launcher or theme.
That's awesome to hear that there is a project on it! Finally I can use my lapdock lol
And is it not possible to rewrite a driver taken from stock or from, say, the Xoom tablet? Since it runs 4.0.4.
The good old Smiley, to make the reading happier:
I am looking for suggestions.
What could I use my Lapdock for, now that I made the switch to CyanogenMod?
Is there a good solution for making the VNC'ed ARM Ubuntu (look for Ubuntu Installer in the Play Store) work better with the touchpad? Should I sell it? Is there a solution to make remote control apps such as TeamViewer or Splashtop integrate with the Lapdock's keyboard and touchpad? Is there any way to make the device switch to Tablet mode without rebooting? That would be rather interesting to see. By the way, the CM9 ROM I am currently running has got Landscape HDMI working flawlessly, so that should not be an issue...
PS: Please do not ignore this thread. Any suggestions are welcome! (Use your common sense though)

I've struggled with the same question on my photon.. If there's working hdmi rotation on your CM, you can still use it for typing out documents, etc. I also used the mirror mode to watch movies on a larger(than phone) screen in bed.

Currently, I use it for watching movies as well, and I am looking forward to pairing a Wii Remote and/or a DualShock® 3 to my Atrix™, so that I can play some games such as GTA III and Shadowgun (Max Payne *-*) on the big screen.
I was happy with Blur until the day I ran into that tempting CM9 thread. I did not know what smoothness and responsiveness really were. Blur was the smoothest I thought it could ever get... But I was wrong, and now I have to choose between fluidity and Webtop.
I actually went back to Blur some months ago, but unfortunately, prolonged use of ICS can cause dependence. Believe it or not, I was pretty happy with Blur. Webtop was working flawlessly, I even had BackTrack installed, but then came the relapse: I could no longer resist to ICS. I am now back to CM9, and with it comes my dilemma...
I am looking for a way to use the Atrix™ as a more desktop-ish platform when docked (especially to the Lapdock). I believe the ideal would be Ubuntu through a local VNC client, or a remote desktop app, I just wish they would play nicer with the keyboard and touchpad...
Basically, something like a key mapper (easy-to-use, I am still unable to figure out WiiMoteController's key mapping scheme) for Lapdock's hardware. We could make a keyboard-powered Ouya!
What still concerns me though, is that games would not be optimized for it e.g. Minecraft PE, games where the camera angle for example, is controlled by dragging the screen, so it would have to be a really powerful, but easy-to-use key mapper, and since you can't have everything in life, I'm afraid I'm asking for much...

When the official Ubuntu for Android was announced, even though an Atrix 2 was used for the hands-on part, on the project's official hotsite... It was clearly an Atrix™ 4G standing there on the dock. The differences between our device's design and the Atrix 2's or the Defy's (Defy+'s) are not that obvious, but they are, indeed, noticeable.
You do know what that means, don't you? It means it is almost certain that our device will be on the first batch of officially supported devices!
I don't if the Atrix™ is still there, but if it's not, I can try to find the screenshot I took if you'd like.

I have never thought I'd say this but, "Please don't get off-topic". I'd appreciate it if this gets settled in a new thread or via PM.
Anyway, you said "stock UbunTop", I could be wrong, but I think it's either stock or UbunTop, which is a mod born right here on our neighbor forum, Android Development.
If yours is really stock, I suggest you get BackTrack from the BackTop project, I don't it's got aircrack built-in, and I was unable to install it, so unless you're an experienced hacker, don't get too excited with BackTrack's features, but my point is: It is amazingly faster than Webtop, it seems lighter, I used to be able to run more than 3 different apps simultaneously...
If yours is really running UbunTop I'm afraid I cannot assist you, since webtop2sd never worked for me and BackTop and WebtopMOD were the only I could ever manage to get working on my device...

What I understand from your reply is that the Paranoid Android ROM could put my Lapdock back to use. But what is the Paranoid Android ROM? What makes it different from other ROMs? How could it (at least partially) solve my problem?
Please be more specific.

I can answer this. What he meant is that you should use Paranoid. Paranoid is a rom thats an hybrid of a phone an a tablet, in short words, you can activate tablet mode for some apps, while some other apps still run in phone-mode, for the ease of use.
What I actually meant was to give a name and a designation, which I did.
Google paranoid android rom and you get the website, the website has a much better explanation then I could or should have to provide.
But yes in short it can give you a tablet UI on lapdock.

I did before you guys answered and after I posted my reply, and was about to post an apology to you, my friend (Random Canadian).
Sometimes my brain takes just way too long to figure some things out...
I am sorry.
Anyway, thank you very much! This might just solve it all!
