Just got the OTA notification for .181. I am not on the soak test, just a normal user.

Update fails
I noticed that the .181 OTA update was available and decided to download and apply it. Alas, there is no joy in mudville. My (rooted) Razr Maxx reboots and gets about 25% into the process before stalling. It then reboots and announces that the update has failed.
Help anyone?

It's live as of 6:30am in good 'ole SC.
Use mattlgroff's Utility to "Keep root through OTA" although at least one person has reported not needing to use that...supposedly the tool worked just fine to root .181, but that gamble is up to you. ;-)
tCizler & maestro53 - I am new to the RAZR, just got mine yesterday, actually...but you haven't mentioned anything about recoveries...if you're running safestrap, etc. I imagine you will have to restore to stock before the update will work.
But a more informed individual is free to give me a slap upside the head.

Well I'm 100% stock, no root. Installed the update. Got a message that it failed, but it shows 6.12.181.XT9212. So I'm not sure what I ended up with??? Anybody else have this happen??

I appreciate the suggestions, but like I said I'm stock/rooted. I have done nothing but freeze/defrost and delete/restore apps. Although I did buy it used on eBay, so I can't say for sure what was done with it prior. But there are 4 other people at work with RAZRs. 3 maxxs and one regular. Only one maxx accepted the update. All 4 are stock/rooted

Hmm. Again, take this with a grain of salt, as I am new to the phone, and this is most likely an extreme option...
You could backup your data/apps using the program of your choice (I've found ROM Toolbox to be the best) and then use DRU 1.51 to "sbf" restore to .173.
That's what I did, as I got the phone from a friend who had ICS/safestrap and all sorts of stuff done to it and something in there made my 4G not work so I wanted to start fresh.
That being said, I am only just now about to attempt the update, so I'm putting my foot in a position such that it might be quickly inserted into my mouth, if necessary.
Just got mine. Warner Robins GA.
Also if you have after market recovery it won't install.
I was rooted .173 and took the update. I didn't unroot. Installed correctly and restored root w root keeper. Very nice.
Went through without a hitch here in monroe Michigan stock rooted and also kept root without backing up still looking for the changes but otherwise working great.

I might be insane from staying up all night, but I coulda swore I saw (either on here or on droidrzr) a "rebloating" script that essentially went through and made sure any such changes would be undone.
And cmon, it's not that bad. The restart will be good for ya, get rid of some of those apps you think you need but really don't. ;-)
Anyway...I went ahead and applied the update on stock/unrooted .173, then used DRU 1.51's GB Root option and it completed successfully, Superuser is on my phone and all seems dandy.
So if you're running stock/unrooted .173 it's CONFIRMED that you do NOT need to root and then use Voodoo's OTA Rootkeeper app to make sure you'll have root in .181. However, if you're already rooted, I'm not sure what happens.
If I understand correctly how Voodoo works, you may need to use Voodoo in order for the update to complete successfully. tCizler, have you tried that?
Now I just gotta figure out what I'm gonna do from here haha...With this update, will I be unable to install most ROMs or should this have no effect on that?
EDIT:
tCizler...I realize I'm firing shots in the dark here, but you may wish to check out this thread. My apologies if it doesn't apply.

Got the update last night when I went to bed at 12am. Since I just got the phone two days ago, I was only rooted on 2.3.3 with nothing else done to it. It updated no problems, but I had to re-root after the install was done. Only things I've noticed so far is that everything seems a lot laggier than before. I still need to install recovery and debloat though. I hope that will help.

Dude you need to lay off. He's nice enough to report he got the update, and even nicer to say he'll upload it. Why would he lie? What would he have to gain? He doesn't have to live up to your expectations.
And by the way, you could fake the method you posted, after changing your server in Cheesecake to 100, you can get the update prompt by going in to about phone > update.
Why would he lie about it? Its a software update on a phone, not a life changing experience.

I don't have an opinion about whether he received the update, but lots of people lie all the time about anything. Also, it was April 1st. I think skepticism was justified. You're welcome to believe everything you hear.
My girlfriend got an update notification yesterday on her MAXX too, but it only took her to 2.3.6, not 4.0.*
I wouldn't be surprised if Verizon is testing with a few to see if there are issues with such a big update, but it would be known testers IMO.
Hoping its the real thing.

There are a lot of gullible people in the world.
I believe you, but if you want to make those of little faith eat some foot, (and make the rest of us super happy), drop the update.zip, it'd only take a quick adb pull , and I agree, you'll probably have to flash back to stock recovery, try using the voodoo ota root keeper to hide/recover su access and keep us updated!

I'm not sure I remember seeing it mentioned in your original thread, but did you sign up on the Feedback network for the SOAK tests, or was this just "random"?
Thanks for the pics. So it did happen. But you posted incredible news on April Fools Day. What did you expect? I once told a friend of mine some really good news April Fools Day. I flashed the leaked JB file and was wondering how it was running for everyone else generally speaking of course! Its running great on my phone currently I did have a few issues at first seemed like apps were disappearing done a FDR and all is working great! No root but for right now doesn't seem to need much tweaking. Just a random thought from my head I know with most of the leaks that came for ICS if you were on them you were off upgrade path since this did come through ota once they finally release even if they are still working on JB for the OG RAZR + MAXX will we still be on path? Or will we be fastbooting to newer versions once they appear? Probably should have posted this in the question section but this is just general randomness from my brain!!!

we will have to update through stock recovery. If this is not the final release, you would have to be on .211 ICS to receive the ota. So far its running great on my phone as well, no issues. And I was able to keep root thanks to Matt's guide. Debloated all the stuff from moto and Verizon. I'm on my second day right now and I'm at 68% battery.

Flawless! I RSD'd to stock ICS, re-rooted, protected root with voodoo ota, (did not temp unroot), upgraded in stock recovery to JB, then formatted internal storage(not sd card) and factory reset and restored root with voodoo ota. The performance and smoothness has changed my mind about going with the S3 and dumping this phone. Its a keeper now.

JB Goodness
So far, so good!
I'm used to having JB on my Nexus 7, I am really glad I have it on my Razr.
I'm hoping VZW will push out 4.2.1 so I can use Lock Screen Widgets. :fingers-crossed:

Runs great. Now that battery has been cycled twice the life is getting great.
Had my music player stop a few times. That is the only glitch so far.

After wiping data, my phone has been running perfect. The only downside was losing Foxfi WiFi tether. Battery life hasn't been impressive, but it's probably due to playing with the phone excessively.
thanks for the file, but looks like my homescreen is messed up. i no longer can go to home screen with the home button... is there a way to restore to the clean JB install? any other thoughts

Wifi Tether works fine for me. Requires root obviously.
My only complaint is how much the kernel pulls from the battery, other than that is great!

Foxfi is not the same. No root required but doesn't work with JB yet.

Different route, excellent results!
Followed a slightly different route. Great results. For starters, running 4.0.4/rooted. Downloaded Droid Utility 1.82 onto Win8 computer. Used Go Backup to backup all apps/user settings.
1. Downloaded JB file computer, copied to sd-ext directly (no USB)
2. Used Matt's Droid Utility 1.82 to restore system (#1)(boot into recovery to show qe 0/1 when finished to verify)
3. Booted phone, connected via USB, ran Matt's DU rooting (#2)
4. Ran Matt's Voodoo OTA Root keeper (#3)
5. Rebooted, verified qe 1/1
6. Started Recovery, ran install of JB file. This takes a while, approx 20 minutes
7. First thing you'll notice is initial boot screen logo is different (Moto logo without dual-core).
8. Booted up, waited a few minutes.
9. Downloaded Go Backup Pro from Play store. Restored all of my system.
10. Enjoying JB in 40 minutes, start to finish.
Maybe it's just me, but graphics seem sharper. Has anyone else noticed this. May the font is just smaller.

I think the font change is one thing. But also, Project Butter has also helped improve the performance under-the-hood on Android. My current every-day phone is my OG RAZR MAXX which is still on ICS (don't want to upgrade to JB yet). But, I did put JB on my old OG RAZR and definitely, there is an improvement in performance. True, the OG RAZR isn't hooked up to the Verizon network (no SIM card), but even under ICS and not hooked up to Verizon, I noticed it was still a little sluggish.
The OG RAZR is not rooted and it's full stock BLUR and I've NEVER seen the Homescreen launcher that comes as the default launcher respond so SMOOTHLY, especially when swiping between screens. Smooth as butter!
Chomp SMS feature of "quick compose" by holding search button does not wprk on JB.. does not work on Handcent pro beta either. There is no other app to quick compose a text is there?

Hence my second sentence. "Requires root obviously." Wasn't a comparison but rather an alternate and confirmation that it works for me at least.
